H. Weyl in 1921 demonstrated that for a connected manifold of dimension greater than $1$, if two Riemannian metrics are conformal and have the same geodesics up to a reparametrization, then one metric is a constant scaling of the other one. In the present paper, we investigate the analogous property for sub-Riemannian metrics. In particular, we prove that the analogous statement, called the Weyl projective rigidity, holds either in real analytic category for all sub-Riemannian metrics on distributions with a specific property of their complex abnormal extremals, called minimal order, or in smooth category for all distributions such that all complex abnormal extremals of their nilpotent approximations are of minimal order. This also shows, in real analytic category, the genericity of distributions for which all sub-Riemannian metrics are Weyl projectively rigid and genericity of Weyl projectively rigid sub-Riemannian metrics on a given bracket generating distributions. Finally, this allows us to get analogous genericity results for projective rigidity of sub-Riemannian metrics, i.e.when the only sub-Riemannian metric having the same sub-Riemannian geodesics, up to a reparametrization, with a given one, is a constant scaling of this given one. This is the improvement of our results on the genericity of weaker rigidity properties proved in recent paper arXiv:1801.04257[math.DG].
The goal of this paper is to investigate the rigidity of 4-dimensional manifolds involving some pinching curvature conditions. To this end, we make use of the approach of biorthogonal curvature which is weaker than the sectional curvature. Here, we prove a rigidity result for 4-dimensional compact manifolds under a suitable lower bound condition on the minimum of the biorthogonal curvature. From this, we improve the pinching constants considered by some preceding works on a rigidity result for 4-dimensional manifolds.
In this paper, we discuss the Weyl problem in warped product space. We obtain the openness, non rigidity and some applications. These results together with the a priori estimates obtained by Lu imply some existence results. Meanwhile we reprove the infinitesimal rigidity in the space forms.
For the Bach-flat closed manifold with positive scalar curvature, we prove a rigidity result under a given inequality involving the Weyl curvature and the traceless Ricci curvature. Moveover, under an inequality involving $L^{\frac{n}{2}}$-norm of the Weyl curvature, the traceless Ricci curvature and the Yamabe invariant, we also provide a similar rigidity result. As an application, we obtain some rigidity results on 4-dimensional manifolds.
Let $(M,g)$ be a noncompact complete $n$-manifold with harmonic curvature and positive Sobolev constant. Assume that $L_2$ norms of Weyl curvature and traceless Ricci curvature are finite. We prove that $(M,g)$ is Einstein if $n \ge 5$ and $L_{n/2}$ norms of Weyl curvature and traceless Ricci curvature are small enough.
We prove rigidity theorems for shrinking gradient Ricci solitons supporting the Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl uncertainty principle with the sharp constant in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In addtion, we partially give analogous rigidity results of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities on shrinking Ricci solitons.
For complete Riemannian manifolds with vanishing Bach tensor and positive constant scalar curvature, we provide a rigidity theorem characterized by some pointwise inequalities. Furthermore, we prove some rigidity results under an inequality involving $L^{\frac{n}{2}}$-norm of the Weyl curvature, the traceless Ricci curvature and the Sobolev constant.
We prove that an n($\geq$ 4)-dimensional compact Bach-flat manifold with positive constant $σ_2$ is an Einstein manifold, provided that its Weyl curvature satisfies a suitable pinching condition.
Consider a smooth manifold $M$ equipped with a bracket generating distribution $D$. Two sub-Riemannian metrics on $(M,D)$ are said to be projectively (resp. affinely) equivalent if they have the same geodesics up to reparameterization (resp. up to affine reparameterization). A sub-Riemannian metric $g$ is called rigid (resp. conformally rigid) with respect to projective/affine equivalence, if any sub-Riemannian metric which is projectively/affinely equivalent to $g$ is constantly proportional to $g$ (resp. conformal to $g$). In the Riemannian case the local classification of projectively and a…
In this paper, we consider some rigidity results for the Einstein metrics as the critical points of some known quadratic curvature functionals on complete manifolds, characterized by some point-wise inequalities. Moreover, we also provide rigidity results by the integral inequalities involving the Weyl curvature, the trace-less Ricci curvature and the Sobolev constant, accordingly.
In this paper, we prove some rigidity results for the Einstein metrics as the critical points of a family of known quadratic curvature functionals on closed manifolds, characterized by some point-wise inequalities. Moreover, we also provide a few rigidity results that involve the Weyl curvature, the trace-less Ricci curvature and the Yamabe invariant, accordingly.
We study rigidity results for the Einstein metrics as the critical points of a family of known quadratic curvature functionals involving the scalar curvature, the Ricci curvature and the Riemannian curvature tensor, characterized by some pointwise inequalities involving the Weyl curvature and the traceless Ricci curvature. Moreover, we also provide a few rigidity results for locally conformally flat critical metrics.
We give some rigidity theorems for an n$(\geq4)$-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold with harmonic Weyl curvature, positive scalar curvature and positive constant $σ_2$. Moreover, when $n=4,$ we prove that a 4-dimensional compact locally conformally flat Riemannian manifold with positive scalar curvature and positive constant $σ_2$ is isometric to a quotient of the round $\mathbb{S}^4$.

In the article we consider Bach-flat metrics on four-manifolds with boundary, with conformally invariant boundary conditions. We show that such metrics arise naturally as critical points of the Weyl energy under a constraint. We then prove a rigidity result: if a Yamabe metric associated to a critical metric when restricted to the boundary is isometric to the round three-sphere, then the critical metric must be isometric to the standard upper hemisphere.
In the article we introduce new conformal and smooth invariants on compact, oriented four-manifolds with boundary. In the first part, we show that "positivity" conditions on these invariants will impose topological restrictions on underlying manifolds with boundary, which generalizes the results on closed four-manifolds by M. Gursky and on conformally compact Einstein four-manifolds by S.-Y. A. Chang, J. Qing, and P. Yang. In the second part, we study Weyl functional on four-manifolds with boundary and establish several conformally invariant rigidity theorems. As applications, we prove some ri…
We extend harmonic map techniques to the setting of more general differential equations in conformal geometry. We obtain an extension of Siu's rigidity to Kahler-Weyl geometry and apply the latter to Vaisman's conjecture. Other applications include topological obstructions to the existence of Kahler-Weyl structures. For example, we show that no co-compact lattice in SO(1,n), n>2, can be the fundamental group of a compact Kahler-Weyl manifold of certain type.
We study a characterization of 4-dimensional (not necessarily complete) gradient Ricci solitons $(M, g, f)$ which have harmonic Weyl curvature, i.e. $δW=0$. Roughly speaking, we prove that the soliton metric $g$ is locally isometric to one of the following four types: an Einstein metric, the product $ \mathbb{R}^2 \times N_λ$ of the Euclidean metric and a 2-d Riemannian manifold of constant curvature $λ \neq 0$, a certain singular metric and a locally conformally flat metric. The method here is motivated by Cao-Chen's works \cite{CC1, CC2} and Derdziński's study on Codazzi tensors \cite{De}. C…
We provide a general Böchner type formula which enables us to prove some rigidity results for $V$-static spaces. In particular, we show that an $n$-dimensional positive static triple with connected boundary and positive scalar curvature must be isometric to the standard hemisphere, provided that the metric has zero radial Weyl curvature and satisfies a suitable pinching condition. Moreover, we classify $V$-static spaces with non-negative sectional curvature.
We show a closed Bach-flat Riemannian manifold with a fixed positive constant scalar curvature has to be locally spherical if its Weyl and traceless Ricci tensors are small in the sense of either $L^\infty$ or $L^{\frac{n}{2}}$-norm. Compared with the complete non-compact case done by Kim, we apply a different method to achieve these results. These results generalize a rigidity theorem of positive Einstein manifolds due to M.-A.Singer. As an application, we can partially recover the well-known Chang-Gursky-Yang's $4$-dimensional conformal sphere theorem.
We study conformal Fefferman-Lorentz manifolds introduced by Fefferman. To do so, we introduce Fefferman-Lorentz structure on (2n+2)-dimensional manifolds. By using causal conformal vector fields preserving that structure, we shall establish two theorems on compact Fefferman-Lorentz manifolds: One is the coincidence of vanishing curvature between Weyl conformal curvature tensor of Fefferman metrics on a Lorentz manifold $S^1\times N$ and Chern-Moser curvature tensor on a strictly pseudoconvex CR-manifold $N$. Another is the analogue of the conformal rigidity theorem of Obata and Lelong to the …
We prove that a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension $m \geq 3$ with harmonic curvature and $\lfloor\frac{m-1}{2}\rfloor$-positive curvature operator has constant sectional curvature, extending the classical Tachibana theorem for manifolds with positive curvature operator. The condition of $\lfloor\frac{m-1}{2}\rfloor$-positivity originates from recent work of Petersen and Wink, who proved a similar Tachibana-type theorem under the stronger condition that the manifold be Einstein. We show that the same rigidity property holds for complete manifolds assuming either parabolicity, an integral…
