Nowadays, it is no more needed to do an enormous effort to distribute a lot of forms to thousands of people and collect them, then convert this from into electronic format to track people opinion about some subjects. A lot of web sites can today reach a large spectrum with less effort. The majority of web sites suggest to their visitors to leave backups about their feeling of the site or events. So, this makes for us a lot of data which need powerful mean to exploit. Opinion mining in the web becomes more and more an attracting task, due the increasing need for individuals and societies to track the mood of people against several subjects of daily life (sports, politics, television,...). A lot of works in opinion mining was developed in western languages especially English, such works in Arabic language still very scarce. In this paper, we propose our approach, for opinion mining in Arabic Algerian news paper. Data annotation is an important but time-consuming and costly procedure. To sort a text into two classes, the very first thing we need is a good annotation guideline, establishing what is required to qualify for each class. In the literature, the difficulties associated with an appropriate data annotation has been underestimated. In this paper, we present a novel approach to automatically construct an annotated sentiment corpus for Algerian dialect (a Maghrebi Arabic dialect). The construction of this corpus is based on an Algerian sentiment lexicon that is also constructed automatically. The …
This paper addresses the problem of detecting the offensive and abusive content in Facebook comments, where we focus on the Algerian dialectal Arabic which is one of under-resourced languages. The latter has a variety of dialects mixed with different languages (i.e. Berber, French and English). In addition, we deal with texts written in both Arabic and Roman scripts (i.e. Arabizi). Due to the scarcity of works on the same language, we have built a new corpus regrouping more than 8.7k texts manually annotated as normal, abusive and offensive. We have conducted a series of experiments using the …

Recommender systems nowadays are playing an important role in the delivery of services and information to users. Sentiment analysis (also known as opinion mining) is the process of determining the attitude of textual opinions, whether they are positive, negative or neutral. Data sparsity is representing a big issue for recommender systems because of the insufficiency of user rating or absence of data about users or items. This research proposed a hybrid approach combining sentiment analysis and recommender systems to tackle the problem of data sparsity problems by predicting the rating of prod…

It is very current in today life to seek for tracking the people opinion from their interaction with occurring events. A very common way to do that is comments in articles published in newspapers web sites dealing with contemporary events. Sentiment analysis or opinion mining is an emergent field who is the purpose is finding the behind phenomenon masked in opinionated texts. We are interested in our work by comments in Algerian newspaper websites. For this end, two corpora were used SANA and OCA. SANA corpus is created by collection of comments from three Algerian newspapers, and annotated by…
In daily communications, Arabs use local dialects which are hard to identify automatically using conventional classification methods. The dialect identification challenging task becomes more complicated when dealing with an under-resourced dialects belonging to a same county/region. In this paper, we start by analyzing statistically Algerian dialects in order to capture their specificities related to prosody information which are extracted at utterance level after a coarse-grained consonant/vowel segmentation. According to these analysis findings, we propose a Hierarchical classification appro…

In this paper, an approach for hate speech detection against women in Arabic community on social media (e.g. Youtube) is proposed. In the literature, similar works have been presented for other languages such as English. However, to the best of our knowledge, not much work has been conducted in the Arabic language. A new hate speech corpus (Arabic\_fr\_en) is developed using three different annotators. For corpus validation, three different machine learning algorithms are used, including deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM) network and Bi-directional LSTM (Bi-…

In this paper, we propose our enhanced approach to create a dedicated corpus for Algerian Arabic newspapers comments. The developed approach has to enhance an existing approach by the enrichment of the available corpus and the inclusion of the annotation step by following the Model Annotate Train Test Evaluate Revise (MATTER) approach. A corpus is created by collecting comments from web sites of three well know Algerian newspapers. Three classifiers, support vector machines, na{ï}ve Bayes, and k-nearest neighbors, were used for classification of comments into positive and negative classes. To …
Opinion mining and sentiment analysis in social media is a research issue having a great interest in the scientific community. However, before begin this analysis, we are faced with a set of problems. In particular, the problem of the richness of languages and dialects within these media. To address this problem, we propose in this paper an approach of construction and implementation of Syntactic analyzer named ASDA. This tool represents a parser for the Algerian dialect that label the terms of a given corpus. Thus, we construct a labeling table containing for each term its stem, different pre…

Social media such as Twitter, Facebook, etc. has led to a generated growing number of comments that contains users opinions. Sentiment analysis research deals with these comments to extract opinions which are positive or negative. Arabic language is a rich morphological language; thus, classical techniques of English sentiment analysis cannot be used for Arabic. Word embedding technique can be considered as one of successful methods to gaping the morphological problem of Arabic. Many works have been done for Arabic sentiment analysis based on word embedding, but there is no study focused on va…

A hybrid approach for the transliteration of Algerian Arabizi: A primary study In this paper, we present a hybrid approach for the transliteration of the Algerian Arabizi. We define a set of rules enable us the passage from Arabizi to Arabic. Through these rules, we generate a set of candidates for the transliteration of each Arabizi word into arabic. Then, we extract the best candidate. This approach was evaluated by using three test corpora, and the obtained results show an improvement of the precision score which is equal to 75.11% for the best result. These results allow us to verify that …
The social media network phenomenon leads to a massive amount of valuable data that is available online and easy to access. Many users share images, videos, comments, reviews, news and opinions on different social networks sites, with Twitter being one of the most popular ones. Data collected from Twitter is highly unstructured, and extracting useful information from tweets is a challenging task. Twitter has a huge number of Arabic users who mostly post and write their tweets using the Arabic language. While there has been a lot of research on sentiment analysis in English, the amount of resea…
Aspect-based Sentiment analysis (ABSA) accomplishes a fine-grained analysis that defines the aspects of a given document or sentence and the sentiments conveyed regarding each aspect. This level of analysis is the most detailed version that is capable of exploring the nuanced viewpoints of the reviews. The bulk of study in ABSA focuses on English with very little work available in Arabic. Most previous work in Arabic has been based on regular methods of machine learning that mainly depends on a group of rare resources and tools for analyzing and processing Arabic content such as lexicons, but …

With the emergence of Web 2.0 technology and the expansion of on-line social networks, current Internet users have the ability to add their reviews, ratings and opinions on social media and on commercial and news web sites. Sentiment analysis aims to classify these reviews reviews in an automatic way. In the literature, there are numerous approaches proposed for automatic sentiment analysis for different language contexts. Each language has its own properties that makes the sentiment analysis more challenging. In this regard, this work presents a comprehensive survey of existing Arabic sentime…

Pre-trained transformers are now the de facto models in Natural Language Processing given their state-of-the-art results in many tasks and languages. However, most of the current models have been trained on languages for which large text resources are already available (such as English, French, Arabic, etc.). Therefore, there are still a number of low-resource languages that need more attention from the community. In this paper, we study the Algerian dialect which has several specificities that make the use of Arabic or multilingual models inappropriate. To address this issue, we collected mor…

The rise of social media such as blogs and social networks has fueled interest in sentiment analysis. With the proliferation of reviews, ratings, recommendations and other forms of online expression, online opinion has turned into a kind of virtual currency for businesses looking to market their products, identify new opportunities and manage their reputations, therefore many are now looking to the field of sentiment analysis. In this paper, we present a feature-based sentence level approach for Arabic sentiment analysis. Our approach is using Arabic idioms/saying phrases lexicon as a key impo…
Although, the fair amount of works in sentiment analysis (SA) and opinion mining (OM) systems in the last decade and with respect to the performance of these systems, but it still not desired performance, especially for morphologically-Rich Language (MRL) such as Arabic, due to the complexities and challenges exist in the nature of the languages itself. One of these challenges is the detection of idioms or proverbs phrases within the writer text or comment. An idiom or proverb is a form of speech or an expression that is peculiar to itself. Grammatically, it cannot be understood from the indiv…

Recent years have seen a rise in interest for cross-lingual transfer between languages with similar typology, and between languages of various scripts. However, the interplay between language similarity and difference in script on cross-lingual transfer is a less studied problem. We explore this interplay on cross-lingual transfer for two supervised tasks, namely part-of-speech tagging and sentiment analysis. We introduce a newly annotated corpus of Algerian user-generated comments comprising parallel annotations of Algerian written in Latin, Arabic, and code-switched scripts, as well as annot…

On social media, Arabic people tend to express themselves in their own local dialects. More particularly, Tunisians use the informal way called "Tunisian Arabizi". Analytical studies seek to explore and recognize online opinions aiming to exploit them for planning and prediction purposes such as measuring the customer satisfaction and establishing sales and marketing strategies. However, analytical studies based on Deep Learning are data hungry. On the other hand, African languages and dialects are considered low resource languages. For instance, to the best of our knowledge, no annotated Tuni…

We analyze 26.2 million comments published in Arabic language on Twitter, from July 2014 to January 2015, when ISIS' strength reached its peak and the group was prominently expanding the territorial area under its control. By doing that, we are able to measure the share of support and aversion toward the Islamic State within the online Arab communities. We then investigate two specific topics. First, by exploiting the time-granularity of the tweets, we link the opinions with daily events to understand the main determinants of the changing trend in support toward ISIS. Second, by taking advanta…

Several high-resource Text to Speech (TTS) systems currently produce natural, well-established human-like speech. In contrast, low-resource languages, including Arabic, have very limited TTS systems due to the lack of resources. We propose a fully unsupervised method for building TTS, including automatic data selection and pre-training/fine-tuning strategies for TTS training, using broadcast news as a case study. We show how careful selection of data, yet smaller amounts, can improve the efficiency of TTS system in generating more natural speech than a system trained on a bigger dataset. We ad…
