An external Abelian magnetic field excites in the QCD vacuum a tensor supercurrent that represents the tensor polarization of the chiral condensate. This tensor supercurrent can be deduced from the chiral lagrangian in the presence of anomalies; a similar tensor supercurrent emerges in rotating systems at finite chemical potential. We discuss the microscopic origin of this supercurrent and argue that it screens the instanton--anti-instanton $I\bar{I}$ molecules in the QCD vacuum, similarly to the vector supercurrent screening Abrikosov vortices in a superconductor. A number of possible experimental manifestations of the tensor supercurrent are discussed: {\it i}) spin alignment of axial-vector and vector mesons in heavy ion collisions; {\it ii}) tensor charge of the nucleon; {\it iii}) transversity of quark distributions in polarized nucleons.
Non-conformal supercurrents in six dimensions are described, which contain the trace of the energy-momentum tensor and the gamma-trace of the supersymmetry current amongst their component fields. Within the superconformal approach to ${\cal N} = (1, 0)$ supergravity, we present various distinct non-conformal supercurrents, one of which is associated with an ${\cal O}(2)$ (or linear) multiplet compensator, while another with a tensor multiplet compensator. We also derive an infinite class of non-conformal supercurrents involving ${\cal O}(n)$ multiplets with $n > 2$. As an illustrative example …
We discuss the Einstein tensor, the supercurrent and their conservation laws of old and new minimal formulations of supergravity in the superconformal approach. The variation of the action with respect to the gauge field of the $R$-symmetry in the conformal approach (the auxiliary field in the super-Poincaré action) allows to find the Einstein tensor and supercurrent in any curved background. Hence generalized expressions for their Ward identities follow. This proceeding is based on arXiv:1805.09228, arXiv:1705.02272.
We discuss several points that may help to clarify some questions that remain about the anomaly puzzle in supersymmetric theories. In particular, we consider a general N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. The anomaly puzzle concerns the question of whether there is a consistent way to put the R-current and the stress tensor in a single supercurrent, even though in the classical theory they are in the same supermultiplet. As is well known, the classically conserved supercurrent bifurcates into two supercurrents having different anomalies in the quantum regime. The most interesting result we ob…
Recently there has appeared in the literature a sequence of papers questioning the consistency of supergravity coupled to Fayet-Iliopoulos terms. A key feature of these arguments is a demonstration that the conventional superspace stress tensor fails to be gauge invariant. We briefly show here how this can be understood as defining the stress tensor in a non-covariant Brans-Dicke frame in an underlying superconformal theory. When converted to the Einstein frame, the inconsistency vanishes, which is consistent with the emergence of a global symmetry discussed in these papers.
Given a conserved and traceless energy-momentum tensor and a conformal Killing vector, one obtains a conserved current. We generalise this construction to superconformal theories in three, four, five and six dimensions with various amounts of supersymmetry by working in the appropriate superspaces.
We address the problem of classifying all N=2 supercurrent multiplets in four space-time dimensions. For this purpose we consider the minimal formulation of N=2 Poincare supergravity with a tensor compensator, and derive its linearized action in terms of three N=2 off-shell multiplets: an unconstrained scalar superfield, a vector multiplet, and a tensor multiplet. Such an action was ruled out to exist in the past. Using the action constructed, one can derive other models for linearized N=2 supergravity by applying N=2 superfield duality transformations. The action depends parametrically on a c…
Boundary conditions in supergravity on a manifold with boundary relate the bulk gravitino to the boundary supercurrent, and the normal derivative of the bulk metric to the boundary energy-momentum tensor. In the 3D N=1 setting, we show that these boundary conditions can be stated in a manifestly supersymmetric form. We identify the Extrinsic Curvature Tensor Multiplet, and show that boundary conditions set it equal to (a conjugate of) the boundary supercurrent multiplet. Extension of our results to higher-dimensional models (including the Randall-Sundrum and Horava-Witten scenarios) is discuss…
Properties of the tensor glueball are discussed in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto Model, a top-down holographic approach to the non-perturbative region of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD).
Hadron masses are shown to be separable in QCD into contributions of quark and gluon kinetic and potential energies, quark masses, and the trace anomaly. The separation is based on a study of the structure of the QCD energy-momentum tensor and its matrix elements in hadron states. The paper contains two parts. In the first part, a detailed discussion of the renormalization properties of the energy-momentum tensor is given. In the second part, a mass separation formula is derived and then applied to the nucleon, pion, and the QCD vacuum. Implications of the results on hadron structure and non-p…
The Kaluza-Klein tower of higher spin-$S$ tensor meson resonances is here scrutinized in the AdS/QCD hard wall model, encompassing the already established resonances $ρ(770)$, $f_2(1270)$, $ω_3(1670)$, $f_4(2050)$, $ρ_5(2350)$, $f_6(2510)$ in PDG. A hybrid model employs both information theory and AdS/QCD, where configurational-entropic Regge trajectories, relating the configurational entropy of the tensor mesons family to their $S$ spin, and also to their experimental mass spectra, are derived and analyzed. Therefore, the mass spectra of higher spin-$S$ tensor meson resonances is obtained and…
We study monopoles and corresponding 't Hooft tensor in QCD with a generic compact gauge group. This issue is relevant to the understanding of color confinement in terms of dual symmetry.

We analytically calculate higher order corrections to coefficient functions of the operator product expansion (OPE) for the Euclidean correlator of two energy-momentum tensors in massless QCD. These are the three-loop contribution to the coefficient C_0 in front of the unity operator O_0=1 and the one and two-loop contributions to the coefficient C_1 in front of the gluon "condensate" operator O_1=-1/4 G^{μν} G_{μν}. For the correlator of two operators O_1 we present the coefficient C_1 at two-loop level.
In this Letter we discuss a few issues concerning the magnetic susceptibility of the quark condensate and the Son-Yamamoto (SY) anomaly matching equation. It is shown that the SY relation in the IR implies a nontrivial interplay between the kinetic and WZW terms in the chiral Lagrangian. It is also demonstrated that in a holographic framework an external magnetic field triggers mixing between scalar and tensor fields. Accounting for this, one may calculate the magnetic susceptibility of the quark condensate to all orders in the magnetic field.
We present a strategy to define non-perturbatively the energy-momentum tensor in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) which satisfies the appropriate Ward identities and has the right trace anomaly. The tensor is defined by regularizing the theory on a lattice, and by fixing its renormalization constants non-perturbatively by suitable Ward identities associated to the Poincare' invariance of the continuum theory. The latter are derived in thermal QCD with a non-zero imaginary chemical potential formulated in a moving reference frame. A renormalization group analysis leads to simple renormalization-gro…
Starting from the 48+48 component multiplet of supercurrents for a rigid N=2 tensor multiplet in four spacetime dimensions, we obtain the transformation of the linearized supergravity multiplet which couples to this supercurrent multiplet. At the linearized level, this 48+48 component supergravity multiplet decouples into the 24+24 component linearized standard Weyl multiplet and a 24+24 component irreducible matter multiplet containing a real scalar field. By a consistent application of the supersymmetry algebra with field dependent structure constants appropriate to N=2 conformal supergravit…
Conformal symmetry has important consequences for strong interactions at short distances and provides powerful tools for practical calculations. Even if the Lagrangians of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and Electrodynamics (QED) are invariant under conformal transformations, this symmetry is broken by quantum corrections. The signature of the symmetry breaking is encoded in the presence of massless poles in correlators involving stress-energy tensors. We present a general study of the correlation functions $\langle TJJ\rangle$ and $\langle TTJJ\rangle$ of conformal field theory (CFT) in the flat…
In this thesis, we study the physics of the quark gluon plasma (QGP) using holographic methods borrowed from string theory. We start our discussion by motivating the use of such machinery, explaining how recent experimental results from the LHC and RHIC colliders suggests that the created QGP should be described as a strongly coupled liquid with small but nonvanishing bulk and shear viscosities. We argue that holographic dualities are a very efficient framework for studying transport properties in such a medium. Next, we introduce the underlying physics behind all holographic dualities, the Ad…
We study spatial isovector meson correlators in $N_f=2$ QCD with dynamical domain-wall fermions on $32^3\times 8$ lattices at temperatures $T=220-380$ MeV. We measure the correlators of spin-one ($J=1$) operators including vector, axial-vector, tensor and axial-tensor. Restoration of chiral $U(1)_A$ and $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ symmetries of QCD implies degeneracies in vector--axial-vector ($SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$) and tensor--axial-tensor ($U(1)_A$) pairs, which are indeed observed at temperatures above $T_c$. Moreover, we observe an approximate degeneracy of all $J=1$ correlators with incre…
Recently, Harlander et al.\ [Eur.\ Phys.\ J.\ C {\bf 78}, 944 (2018)] have computed the two-loop order (i.e., NNLO) coefficients in the gradient-flow representation of the energy--momentum tensor (EMT) in vector-like gauge theories. In this paper, we study the effect of the two-loop order corrections (and the three-loop order correction for the trace part of the EMT, which is available through the trace anomaly) on the lattice computation of thermodynamic quantities in quenched QCD. The use of the two-loop order coefficients generally reduces the $t$~dependence of the expectation values of the…
We analyze the sector of dimension-three vector meson operators in the "hard wall" model of holographic QCD, including the vector and axial currents, dual to gauge fields in the bulk, and the tensor operator $\barψσ^{μν}ψ$, dual to a two-form field satisfying a complex self-duality condition. The model includes the effect of chiral symmetry breaking on vector mesons, that involves a coupling between the dual gauge field and the two-form field. We compute the leading logarithmic terms in the operator product expansion of two-point functions and the leading non-perturbative contribution to the t…
We consider the quantum effects of matter fields in scalar-tensor theories and clarify the role of trace anomaly when switching between conformally related `frames'. We exploit the property that the couplings between the scalar and the gauge fields are not frame-invariant in order to define a `QCD-frame', where the scalar is not coupled to the gluons. We show that this frame is a natural generalization of the `Jordan frame' in the case of non-metric theories and that it is particularly convenient for gravitational phenomenology: test bodies have trajectories that are as close as possible to ge…
The tensor formulation for the effective theory of QCD vector ressonances, whose model we denote by TEVR, is given by an antisymmetric tensor field and describes spin 1 particles. Our goal is to show, by diferent approaches, that the Abelian version of this model presents the so called "spin jumping" when we consider its massless limit. Classically we find, by the use of the equations of motion and the Hamiltonian constraint analysis, that the massive phase of the model describes spin 1 particles while its massless phase describes spin 0 particles. By the quantum point of view we derive these …
