We consider reflected backward stochastic differential equations with two optional barriers of class (D) satisfying Mokobodzki's separation condition and coefficient which is only continuous and non-increasing. We assume that data are merely integrable and the terminal time is an arbitrary (possibly infinite) stopping time. We study the problem of existence and uniqueness of solutions, and their connections with the value process in nonlinear Dynkin games.
We study reflected backward stochastic differential equation (RBSDEs) on the probability space equipped with a Brownian motion. The main novelty of the paper lies in fact that we consider the following weak assumptions on the data: barriers are optional of class (D) satisfying weak Mokobodzki's condition, generator is continuous and non-increasing with respect to the value-variable (no restriction on the growth) and Lipschitz continuous with respect to the control-variable, and the terminal condition and the generator at zero are supposed to be merely integrable. We prove that under these cond…
We study the problem of existence and uniqueness of solutions of backward stochastic differential equations with two reflecting irregular barriers, $L^p$ data and generators satisfying weak integrability conditions. We deal with equations on general filtered probability spaces. In case the generator does not depend on the $z$ variable, we first consider the case $p=1$ and we only assume that the underlying filtration satisfies the usual conditions of right-continuity and completeness. Additional integrability properties of solutions are established if $p\in(1,2]$ and the filtration is quasi-le…
We consider reflected backward stochastic different equations with optional barrier and so-called regulated trajectories, i.e trajectories with left and right finite limits. We prove existence and uniqueness results. We also show that the solution may be approximated by a modified penalization method. Application to an optimal stopping problem is given.
We provide several characterizations to identify Strong envelop (for bounded measurable process) and Strong super-martingale (for non-negative right upper semi-continuous process of the class $\Dc$). As examples of application, we prove existence and uniqueness of reflected backward stochastic differential equation with lower barrier (RBSDB in short) in two cases: $i)$. the obstacle is a measurable bounded process; $ii)$. the obstacle is a right upper semicontinuous optional process of class $\Dc$.
In this short note we consider RBSDE with Lipschitz drivers and barrier processes that are optional and right upper semicontinuous. We treat the case when the barrier can be represented as a decreasing limit of cadlag barriers. We combine well known existence results for cadlag barriers with comparison arguments for the control process to construct solutions. Finally, we highlight the connection of such RBSDEs with usual cadlag BSDEs.

We introduce a new class of reflected backward stochastic differential equations with two càdlàg barriers, which need not satisfy any separation conditions. For that reason, in general, the solutions are not semimartingales. We prove existence, uniqueness and approximation results for solutions of equations defined on general filtered probability spaces. Applications to Dynkin games and variational inequalities, both stationary and evolutionary, are given.
We study the optional projection of a standard Brownian motion on the natural filtration of certain kinds of observation processes. The observation process, $Y$, is defined as a solution of a stochastic differential equation such that it reveals some (possibly noisy) information about the signs of the Brownian motion when $Y$ hits 0. As such, the associated optional projections are related to Azéma's martingales which are obtained by projecting the Brownian motion onto the filtration generated by observing its signs.
We demonstrate that backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) may be reformulated as ordinary functional differential equations on certain path spaces. In this framework, neither Itô's integrals nor martingale representation formulate are needed. This approach provides new tools for the study of BSDE, and is particularly useful for the study of BSDE with partial information. The approach allows us to study the following type of backward stochastic differential equations: \[dY_t^j=-f_0^j(t,Y_t,L(M)_t) dt-\sum_{i=1}^df_i^j(t,Y_t), dB_t^i+dM_t^j\] with $Y_T=ξ$, on a general filtered proba…
The paper analyzes risk assessment for cash flows in continuous time using the notion of convex risk measures for processes. By combining a decomposition result for optional measures, and a dual representation of a convex risk measure for bounded \cd processes, we show that this framework provides a systematic approach to the both issues of model ambiguity, and uncertainty about the time value of money. We also establish a link between risk measures for processes and BSDEs.
We prove existence and uniqueness of the reflected backward stochastic differential equation's (RBSDE) solution with a lower obstacle which is assumed to be right upper-semicontinuous but not necessarily right-continuous in a filtration that supports a Brownian motion $W$ and an independent Poisson random measure $π$. The result is established by using some tools from the general theory of processes such as Mertens decomposition of optional strong (but not necessarily right continuous) supermartingales and some tools from optimal stopping theory, as well as an appropriate generalization of Itô…
We study the existence of a minimal supersolution for backward stochastic differential equations when the terminal data can take the value +$\infty$ with positive probability. We deal with equations on a general filtered probability space and with generators satisfying a general monotonicity assumption. With this minimal supersolution we then solve an optimal stochastic control problem related to portfolio liquidation problems. We generalize the existing results in three directions: firstly there is no assumption on the underlying filtration (except completeness and quasi-left continuity), sec…
In this paper, a study of random times on filtered probability spaces is undertaken. The main message is that, as long as distributional properties of optional processes up to the random time are involved, there is no loss of generality in assuming that the random time is actually a randomised stopping time. This perspective has advantages in both the theoretical and practical study of optional processes up to random times. Applications are given to financial mathematics, as well as to the study of the stochastic behaviour of Brownian motion with drift up to its time of overall maximum as well…
We introduce a new formulation of reflected BSDEs and doubly reflected BSDEs associated with irregular obstacles. In the first part of the paper, we consider an extension of the classical optimal stopping problem over a larger set of stopping systems than the set of stopping times (namely, the set of split stopping times), where the payoff process $ξ$ is irregular and in the case of a general filtration. Split stopping times are a powerful tool for modeling financial contracts and derivatives that depend on multiple conditions or triggers, and for incorporating stochastic processes with jumps …
We present a theory of backward stochastic differential equations in continuous time with an arbitrary filtered probability space. No assumptions are made regarding the left continuity of the filtration, of the predictable quadratic variations of martingales or of the measure integrating the driver. We present conditions for existence and uniqueness of square-integrable solutions, using Lipschitz continuity of the driver. These conditions unite the requirements for existence in continuous and discrete time and allow discrete processes to be embedded with continuous ones. We also present condit…
In Liang et al (2009), the current authors demonstrated that BSDEs can be reformulated as functional differential equations, and as an application, they solved BSDEs on general filtered probability spaces. In this paper the authors continue the study of functional differential equations and demonstrate how such approach can be used to solve FBSDEs. By this approach the equations can be solved in one direction altogether rather than in a forward and backward way. The solutions of FBSDEs are then employed to construct the weak solutions to a class of BSDE systems (not necessarily scalar) with qu…
In this paper, we associate, to any submartingale of class $(Σ)$, defined on a filtered probability space $(Ω, \mathcal{F}, \mathbb{P}, (\mathcal{F}_t)_{t \geq 0})$, which satisfies some technical conditions, a $σ$-finite measure $\mathcal{Q}$ on $(Ω, \mathcal{F})$, such that for all $t \geq 0$, and for all events $Λ_t \in \mathcal{F}_t$: $$ \mathcal{Q} [Λ_t, g\leq t] = \mathbb{E}_{\mathbb{P}} [\mathds{1}_{Λ_t} X_t]$$ where $g$ is the last hitting time of zero of the process $X$. This measure $\mathcal{Q}$ has already been defined in several particular cases, some of them are involved in the s…
We consider the optimal stopping problem with non-linear $f$-expectation (induced by a BSDE) without making any regularity assumptions on the reward process $ξ$. and with general filtration. We show that the value family can be aggregated by an optional process $Y$. We characterize the process $Y$ as the $\mathcal{E}^f$-Snell envelope of $ξ$. We also establish an infinitesimal characterization of the value process $Y$ in terms of a Reflected BSDE with $ξ$ as the obstacle. To do this, we first establish a comparison theorem for irregular RBSDEs. We give an application to the pricing of American…
In the first part of the paper, we study reflected backward stochastic differential equations (RBSDEs) with lower obstacle which is assumed to be right upper-semicontinuous but not necessarily right-continuous. We prove existence and uniqueness of the solutions to such RBSDEs in appropriate Banach spaces. The result is established by using some tools from the general theory of processes such as Mertens decomposition of optional strong (but not necessarily right-continuous) supermartingales, some tools from optimal stopping theory, as well as an appropriate generalization of It{ô}'s formula due…
We consider a stochastic control problem for a class of nonlinear kernels. More precisely, our problem of interest consists in the optimisation, over a set of possibly non-dominated probability measures, of solutions of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs). Since BSDEs are nonlinear generalisations of the traditional (linear) expectations, this problem can be understood as stochastic control of a family of nonlinear expectations, or equivalently of nonlinear kernels. Our first main contribution is to prove a dynamic programming principle for this control problem in an abstract se…
In this paper we present a variational calculus approach to Principal-Agent problem with a lump-sum payment on finite horizon in degenerate stochastic systems, such as filtered partially observed linear systems. Our work extends the existing methodologies in the Principal-Agent literature using dynamic programming and BSDE representation of the contracts in the non-degenerate controlled stochastic systems. We first solve the Principal's problem in an enlarged set of contracts defined by a forward-backward SDE system given by the first order condition of the Agent's problem using variational ca…
