We compare level-set percolation for Gaussian free fields (GFFs) defined on a rectangular subset of $δ\mathbb{Z}^2$ to level-set percolation for GFFs defined on the corresponding metric graph as the mesh size $δ$ goes to 0. In particular, we look at the probability that there is a path that crosses the rectangle in the horizontal direction on which the field is positive. We show this probability is strictly larger in the discrete graph. In the metric graph case, we show that for appropriate boundary conditions the probability that there exists a closed pivotal edge for the horizontal crossing event decays logarithmically in $δ$. In the discrete graph case, we compute the limit of the probability of a horizontal crossing for appropriate boundary conditions.
We consider metric graph Gaussian free field (GFF) defined on polygons of $δ\mathbb{Z}^2$ with alternating boundary data. The crossing probabilities for level-set percolation of metric graph GFF have scaling limits. When the boundary data is well-chosen, the scaling limits of crossing probabilities can be explicitly constructed as "fusion" of multiple SLE$_4$ pure partition functions.
We consider the maximum of the discrete two dimensional Gaussian free field (GFF) in a box, and prove that its maximum, centered at its mean, is tight, settling a long-standing conjecture. The proof combines a recent observation of Bolthausen, Deuschel and Zeitouni with elements from (Bramson 1978) and comparison theorems for Gaussian fields. An essential part of the argument is the precise evaluation, up to an error of order 1, of the expected value of the maximum of the GFF in a box. Related Gaussian fields, such as the GFF on a two-dimensional torus, are also discussed.
In this article we aim at defining the discrete Gaussian free field (DGFF) on a compact manifold. Since there is no canonical grid approximation of a manifold, we construct a random graph that suitably replaces the square lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$ in Euclidean space, and prove that the scaling limit of the DGFF is given by the manifold continuum Gaussian free field (GFF). Furthermore using Voronoi tessellations we can interpret the DGFF as element of a Sobolev space and show convergence to the GFF in law with respect to the strong Sobolev topology.
We further investigate properties of the Gaussian free field (GFF) on the metric graph associated to a discrete weighted graph (where the edges of the latter are replaced by continuous line-segments of appropriate length) that has been introduced by the first author. On such a metric graph, the GFF is a random continuous function that generalises one-dimensional Brownian bridges so that one-dimensional techniques can be used. In the present paper, we define and study the pseudo-metric defined on the metric graph (and therefore also on the discrete graph itself), where the length of a path on t…
This article pertains to the classification of multiple Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLE). We construct the pure partition functions of multiple SLE$(κ)$ with $κ\in (0,4]$ and relate them to certain extremal multiple SLE measures, thus verifying a conjecture from [BBK05, KP16]. We prove that the two approaches to construct multiple SLEs - the global, configurational construction of [KL07, Law09a] and the local, growth process construction of [BBK05, Dub07, Gra07, KP16] - agree. The pure partition functions are closely related to crossing probabilities in critical statistical mechanics models. W…
Discrete and continuum Liouville first passage percolation (DLFPP, LFPP) are two approximations of the conjectural $γ$-Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) metric, obtained by exponentiating the discrete Gaussian free field (GFF) and the circle average regularization of the continuum GFF respectively. We show that these two models can be coupled so that with high probability distances in these models agree up to $o(1)$ errors in the exponent, and thus have the same distance exponent. Ding and Gwynne (2018) give a formula for the continuum LFPP distance exponent in terms of the $γ$-LQG dimension exp…

The Gaussian Free Field (GFF) in the continuum appears to be the natural generalisation of Brownian motion, when one replaces time by a multidimensional continuous parameter. The goal of these lecture notes is to describe some aspects of the continuum GFF and of its discrete counterpart defined on lattices, with the aim of providing a gentle self-contained introduction to some recent developments on this topic, such as the relation between the continuum GFF, Brownian loop-soups and the Conformal Loop Ensembles CLE(4). This is an updated and expanded version of the notes written by the first au…
We consider first passage percolation (FPP) where the vertex weight is given by the exponential of two-dimensional log-correlated Gaussian fields. Our work is motivated by understanding the discrete analog for the random metric associated with \emph{Liouville quantum gravity} (LQG), which roughly corresponds to the exponential of a two-dimensional Gaussian free field (GFF). The particular focus of the present paper is an aspect of universality for such FPP among the family of log-correlated Gaussian fields. More precisely, we construct a family of log-correlated Gaussian fields, and show that …
We propose a discrete time discrete space Markov chain approximation with a Brownian bridge correction for computing curvilinear boundary crossing probabilities of a general diffusion process on a finite time interval. For broad classes of curvilinear boundaries and diffusion processes, we prove the convergence of the constructed approximations in the form of products of the respective substochastic matrices to the boundary crossing probabilities for the process as the time grid used to construct the Markov chains is getting finer. Numerical results indicate that the convergence rate for the p…
The metric associated with the Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) surface has been constructed through a series of recent works and several properties of its associated geodesics have been studied. In the current article we confirm the folklore conjecture that the Euclidean Hausdorff dimension of LQG geodesics is stirctly greater than 1 for all values of the so-called Liouville first passage percolation (LFPP) parameter $ξ$. We deduce this from a general criterion due to Aizenman and Burchard which in our case amounts to near-geometric bounds on the probabilities of certain crossing events for LQ…
We study the discrete time risk process modelled by the skip-free random walk and we derive the results connected to the ruin probability, such as crossing the fixed level, for this kind of process. We use the method relying on the classical ballot theorems to derive these results and compare them to the results obtained for the continuous time version of the risk process. We further generalize this model by adding the perturbation and, still relying on the skip-free structure of that process, we generalize the previous results on crossing the fixed level for the generalized discrete time risk…
In this paper, we focus on the following question. Assume $ϕ$ is a discrete Gaussian free field (GFF) on $Λ\subset \frac 1 n \mathbb{Z}^2$ and that we are given $e^{iT ϕ}$, or equivalently $ϕ\pmod{\frac {2π} T}$. Can we recover the macroscopic observables of $ϕ$ up to $o(1)$ precision? We prove that this statistical reconstruction problem undergoes the following Kosterlitz-Thouless type phase transition: -) If $T<T_{rec}^-$ , one can fully recover $ϕ$ from the knowledge of $ϕ\pmod{\frac {2π} T}$. In this regime our proof relies on a new type of Peierls argument which we call annealed Peierls a…
Many low temperature disordered systems are expected to exhibit Poisson-Dirichlet (PD) statistics. In this paper, we focus on the case when the underlying disorder is a logarithmically correlated Gaussian process $ϕ_N$ on the box $[-N,N]^d\subset\mathbb{Z}^d$. Canonical examples include branching random walk, $*$-scale invariant fields, with the central example being the two dimensional Gaussian free field (GFF), a universal scaling limit of a wide range of statistical mechanics models. The corresponding Gibbs measure obtained by exponentiating $β$ (inverse temperature) times $ϕ_N$ is a discre…
Let L_n denote the lowest crossing of a square 2n\times2n box for critical site percolation on the triangular lattice imbedded in Z^2. Denote also by F_n the pioneering sites extending below this crossing, and Q_n the pivotal sites on this crossing. Combining the recent results of Smirnov and Werner [Math. Res. Lett. 8 (2001) 729-744] on asymptotic probabilities of multiple arm paths in both the plane and half-plane, Kesten's [Comm. Math. Phys. 109 (1987) 109-156] method for showing that certain restricted multiple arm paths are probabilistically equivalent to unrestricted ones, and our own se…

We construct a sequence of states called m-monotone product states which give a discrete interpolation between the monotone product of states of Muraki and the free product of states of Avitzour and Voiculescu in free probability. We derive the associated basic limit theorems and develop the combinatorics based on non-crossing ordered partitions with monotone order starting from depth m. The Hilbert space representations of the limit mixed moments in the invariance principle lead to m-monotone Gaussian operators living in m-monotone Fock spaces, which are truncations of the free Fock space ove…
