We investigate theoretically quantum transport through the "charge" Kondo circuit consisting of the quantum dot (QD) coupled weakly to an electrode at temperature $T+ΔT$ and connected strongly to another electrode at the reference temperature $T$ by a single-mode quantum point contact (QPC). To account for the effects of Coulomb interaction in the QD-QPC setup operating in the integer quantum Hall regime we describe the edge current in the quantum circuit by Luttinger model characterized by the Luttinger parameter $g$. It is shown that the temperature dependence of both electric conductance $G\propto T^{2/g}$ and thermoelectric coefficient $G_T\propto T^{1+2/g}$ detours from the Fermi-liquid (FL) theory predictions. The behaviour of the thermoelectric power $S=G_T/G\propto T$ in a regime of a single-channel Kondo effect is, by contrast, consistent with the FL paradigm. We demonstrate that the interplay between the mesoscopic Coulomb blockade in QD and weak repulsive interaction in the Luttinger Liquid $g=1-α$ $(α\ll 1)$ results in the enhancement of the thermopower. This enhancement is attributed to suppression of the Kondo correlations in the "charge" circuit by the destructive quantum interference effects.
We study the gate voltage dependence of the linear conductance through a quantum dot coupled to one-dimensional leads. For interacting dot electrons but noninteracting leads Kondo physics implies broad plateau-like resonances. In the opposite case Luttinger liquid behavior leads to sharp resonances. In the presence of Kondo as well as Luttinger liquid physics and for experimentally relevant parameters, we find a line shape that resembles the one of the Kondo case.
We show that the paradigmatic Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) description of two local magnetic moments coupled to propagating electrons breaks down in helical Luttinger Liquids when the electron interaction is stronger than some critical value. In this novel regime, the Kondo effect overwhelms the RKKY interaction over all macroscopic inter-impurity distances. This phenomenon is a direct consequence of the helicity (realized, for instance, at edges of a time-reversal invariant topological insulator) and does not take place in usual (non-helical) Luttinger Liquids.
We consider the Kondo effect in quantum dots coupled to Luttinger liquid leads, focussing on the case of repulsive interactions and spin SU(2) symmetry in the leads. We find that the system can flow to the 1-channel or 2-channel Kondo fixed points, depending on the interactions in the system. We compute the conductance and find that the qualitative behavior is strongly dependent on the interactions. Finally, we point out a consequence of 2-channel Kondo physics, which should be observable in thermal conductance measurements.
The combined effect of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions on the physics of a helical Luttinger liquid coupled to a Kondo impurity is studied. A Rashba coupling can potentially destroy the Kondo singlet formation in certain parameter regimes [Phys. Rev. B 86, 161103(R) (2012)]. This effect is here shown to vanish for sufficiently strong Dresselhaus interaction. The transport properties of the system are investigated by calculating electrical conductance, current and current fluctuations, and thermal conductance.
We theoretically investigate the non-equilibrium current through a quantum dot coupled to one- dimensional electron leads, utilizing a controlled frequency-dependent renormalization group (RG) approach. We compute the non-equilibrium conductance for large bias voltages and address the interplay between decoherence, Kondo entanglement and Luttinger physics. The combined effect of large bias voltage and strong interactions in the leads, known to stabilize two-channel Kondo physics, leads to non-trivial modifications of the conductance. For weak interactions, we build an analogy to a dot coupled …
We study a system of an impurity spin coupled to a junction of several Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids using a renormalization group scheme. For the decoupled S-matrix at the junction, there is a range of Kondo couplings which flow to a multi-channel fixed point for repulsive inter-electron interactions; this is associated with a characteristic temperature dependence of the spin-flip scatterings. If the junction is governed by the Griffiths S-matrix, the Kondo couplings flow to a strong coupling fixed point where all the wires are decoupled.
We study the problem of underscreened Kondo physics in an interacting electronic system modeled by a Luttiger Liquid (LL). We find that the leading temperature dependence of thermodynamical quantities like the specific heat, spin susceptibility are Fermi Liquid like in nature. However, anomalous power law exponents are seen in the subleading terms. We also discuss possible realizations through single and double quantum dot configurations coupled to LL leads and its consequences for electronic transport. The leading low temperature transport behavior is seen to exhibit in general, non Fermi liq…
Quantum impurity problems in Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids (TLLs) are reviewed with emphasis on their analogy to the Kondo problem in Fermi liquids. First, the problem of a static impurity in a spinless TLL is considered, which is related to the model studied in the context of the macroscopic quantum coherence. In the low-energy limit the TLL is essentially cut into two pieces when interaction is repulsive. The orthogonality catastrophe in a TLL is then discussed. Finally, the Kondo effect of a spin-1/2 impurity in a one-dimensional repulsively interacting electron liquids (a spinful TLL) is revi…
We study a system consisting of a junction of N quantum wires, where the junction is characterized by a scalar S-matrix, and an impurity spin is coupled to the electrons close to the junction. The wires are modeled as weakly interacting Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids. We derive the renormalization group equations for the Kondo couplings of the spin to the electronic modes on different wires, and analyze the renormalization group flows and fixed points for different values of the initial Kondo couplings and of the junction S-matrix (such as the decoupled S-matrix and the Griffiths S-matrix). We gen…
We investigate the Kondo effect in a double-quantum-dot which is capacitively coupled to a charge-Qubit. It is shown that due to this capacitive coupling, the bare inter-dot repulsive interaction in the double-quantum-dot is effectively reduced and eventually changed to an attractive interaction for strong couplings between the double-quantum-dot and the Qubit. By deriving the low-energy effective Hamiltonian of the system, we find that the low energy dynamics of the system corresponding to these two positive or negative effective interaction regimes can be described, respectively, by an isotr…
Ballistic transport of helical edge modes in two-dimensional topological insulators is protected by time-reversal symmetry. Recently it was pointed out [1] that coupling of non-interacting helical electrons to an array of randomly anisotropic Kondo impurities can lead to a spontaneous breaking of the symmetry and, thus, can remove this protection. We have analyzed effects of the interaction between the electrons using a combination of the functional and the Abelian bosonization approaches. The suppression of the ballistic transport turns out to be robust in a broad range of the interaction str…
We study one-dimensional Kondo Lattices (KL) which consist of itinerant electrons interacting with Kondo impurities (KI) - localized quantum magnetic moments. We focus on KL with isotropic exchange interaction between electrons and KI and with a high KI density. The latter determines the principal róle of the indirect interaction between KI for the low energy physics. Namely, the Kondo physics becomes suppressed and all properties are governed by spin ordering. We present a first-ever comprehensive analytical theory of such KL at an arbitrary doping and predict a variety of regimes with differ…
We study the emergence of superconductivity in rhombohedral trilayer graphene due purely to the long-range Coulomb repulsion. This repulsive-interaction-driven phase in rhombohedral trilayer graphene is significantly different from those found in twisted bilayer and trilayer graphenes. In the latter case, the nontrivial momentum-space geometry of the Bloch wavefunctions leads to an effective attractive electron-electron interaction; this allows for less modulated order parameters and for spin-singlet pairing. In rhombohedral trilayer graphene, we instead find spin-triplet superconductivity wit…
We study the local density of states (LDOS) in systems of Luttinger-liquid nanowires connected to a common mesoscopic superconducting island, in which Majorana bound states give rise to different types of topological Kondo effects. We show that electron interactions enhance the low-energy LDOS in the leads close to the island, with unusual exponents due to Kondo physics that can be probed in tunneling experiments.
In this paper we study the differential capacitance of a single-level quantum dot attached to quantum wires in the Luttinger liquid phase, or to fractional quantum Hall edges, by both tunneling and interactions. We show that logarithmic or even power-law divergence of the capacitance at low temperatures may result in a substantial region of the parameter space (including the $ν=1/3$ filling). This behavior is a manifestation of generalized two channel Kondo physics, and can be used to extract Luttinger liquid parameters from thermodynamic measurements.
Impurities are ubiquitous in condensed matter. Boundary Conformal Field Theory (BCFT) provides a powerful method to study a localized quantum impurity interacting with a gapless continuum of excitations. The results can also be implied to nanoscopic devices like quantum dots. In these lecture notes, I review this field, including the following topics: I. General Renormalization Group (RG) framework for quantum impurity problems: example of simplest Kondo model II. Multi-channel Kondo model III. We investigate the rectification of an ac bias in Luttinger liquids in the presence of an asymmetric potential (the ratchet effect). We show that strong repulsive electron interaction enhances the ratchet current in comparison with Fermi liquid systems, and the I-V curve is strongly asymmetric in the low-voltage regime even for a weak asymmetric potential. At higher voltages the ratchet current exhibits an oscillatory voltage dependence.
We discuss the conductance of a Luttinger liquid interrupted by a quantum dot containing a single resonant level. Using bosonisation and re-fermionisation methods, we find a mapping to a Kondo-type problem which possesses a non-trivial Toulouse-type solvable point. At this point, we obtain an analytic expression for the non-linear current-voltage characteristics and analyse the differential conductance and the width of the resonance peak as functions of bias and gate voltages, temperature, and barrier asymmetry. We also determine the exact scaling function for the linear conductance.
This is a Comment to the paper by Sharma and Chamon in Phys. Rev. Lett. 87 (2001) 096401 (cond-mat/0011025). We show that the prediction of the universal charge pumped per cycle in the fast limit for attractive electron-electron interaction is invalid. We also prove the quantization of the pumped charge for repulsive interaction in the limit of adiabatic pumping.
Transport through a superconductor-Luttinger liquid junction is considered. When the interaction in the Luttinger liquid is repulsive, the resistance of the junction with a sufficiently clean interface shows nonmonotonic temperature- or voltage-dependence due to the competition between the superconductivity and the repulsive interaction. The result is discussed in connection with recent experiments on single-wall carbon nanotubes in contact with superconducting leads.
We study the problem of resonant tunneling through a quantum dot in a spinful Luttinger liquid. For a range of repulsive interactions, we find that for symmetric barriers there exist resonances with a universal peak conductance $2g^* e^2/h$ that are controlled by a non-trivial intermediate fixed point. This fixed point is also a quantum critical point separating symmetry-protected topological phases. By tuning the system through resonance, all SPT phases can be accessed. For a particular interaction strength with Luttinger parameters $g_ρ=1/3$ and $g_σ=1$, we show that the problem is equivalen…
We suggest an experiment to study Luttinger liquid behavior in a one-dimensional nanostructure, avoiding the usual complications associated with transport measurements. The proposed setup consists of a quantum box, biased by a gate voltage, and side-coupled to a quantum wire by a point contact. Close to the degeneracy points of the Coulomb blockaded box, and in the presence of a magnetic field sufficiently strong to spin polarize the electrons, the setup can be described as a Luttinger liquid interacting with an effective Kondo impurity. Using exact nonperturbative techniques we predict that t…
We consider a resonant level coupled to a chiral Luttinger liquid which can be realized, e.g., at a fractional quantum Hall edge. We study the dependence of the occupation probability n of the level on its energy εfor various values of the Luttinger-liquid parameter g. At g<1/2 a weakly coupled level shows a sharp jump in n(ε) at the Fermi level. As the coupling is increased, the magnitude of the jump decreases until \sqrt{2g}, and then the discontinuity in n(ε) disappears. We show that n(ε) can be expressed in terms of the magnetization of a Kondo impurity as a function of magnetic field.
We investigate theoretically the quantum phase transition (QPT) between the one-channel Kondo (1CK) and two-channel Kondo (2CK) fixed points in a quantum dot coupled to helical edge states of interacting 2D topological insulators (2DTI) with Luttinger parameter $0<K<1$. The model has been studied in Ref. 21, and was mapped onto an anisotropic two-channel Kondo model via bosonization. For K<1, the strong coupling 2CK fixed point was argued to be stable for infinitesimally weak tunnelings between dot and the 2DTI based on a simple scaling dimensional analysis[21]. We re-examine this model beyond…
The generating function for the cumulants of charge current distribution is calculated for two generalised Majorana resonant level models: the Kondo dot at the Toulouse point and the resonant level embedded in a Luttinger liquid with the interaction parameter $g=1/2$. We find that the low--temperature non-equilibrium transport in the Kondo case occurs via tunnelling of physical electrons as well as by coherent transmission of electron pairs. We calculate the third cumulant (`skewness') explicitly and analyse it for different couplings, temperatures, and magnetic fields. For the $g=1/2$ set-up …
In this work, a quantum dot couples to two helical edge states of a 2D topological insulator through weak tunnelings is studied. We show that if the electron interactions on the edge states are repulsive, with Luttinger liquid parameter $ K < 1 $, the system flows to a stable two-channel fixed point at low temperatures. This is in contrast to the case of a quantum dot couples to two Luttinger liquid leads. In the latter case, a strong electron-electron repulsion is needed, with $ K<1/2 $, to reach the two-channel fixed point. This two-channel fixed point is described by a boundary Sine-Gordon …
The non linear charge transfer through a tunnel junction between two Luttinger systems is studied for repulsive, finite range interaction between electrons on the same, V_{11}, and on different,V_{12}, sides of the junction. Features of the Coulomb blockade effect are observed if V_{12}=0. We predict a novel interaction induced enhancement of the current if V_{12}>0. When V_{12}=V_{11}, the current is suppressed at small bias, but the ``charging energy'', obtained from the asymptotic behavior at high bias voltage, vanishes.
We investigate a symmetrical double quantum dot system serially attached to the leads. The emphasis is on the numerical analysis of finite inter-dot tunneling in the presence of inter-dot repulsive capacitive coupling. The results reveal the competition between extended Kondo phases and local singlet phases in spin and charge degrees of freedom. The corresponding phase diagram is determined quantitatively.
We studied the conductance renormalization and conductivity of multi-subband Tomonaga-Luttinger models with inter-subband interactions. We found that, as in single-band systems, the conductance of a multi-subband system with an arbitrary number of subbands is not renormalized due to interaction between electrons. We derived a formula for the conductivity in multi-subband models. We applied it to a simplified case and found that inter-subband interaction enhances the conductivity, which is contrary to the intra-subband repulsive interaction, and that the conductivity is further enhanced for a l…
Time-reversal invariant topological superconductors are characterized by the presence of Majorana Kramers pairs localized at defects. One of the transport signatures of Majorana Kramers pairs is the quantized differential conductance of $4e^2/h$ when such a one-dimensional superconductor is coupled to a normal-metal lead. The resonant Andreev reflection, responsible for this phenomenon, can be understood as the boundary condition change for lead electrons at low energies. In this paper, we study the stability of the Andreev reflection fixed point with respect to electron-electron interactions …
We investigate the influence of an electromagnetic environment, characterized by a finite impedance $Z(ω)$, on the Kondo effect in quantum dots. The circuit voltage fluctuations couple to charge fluctuations in the dot and influence the spin exchange processes transferring charge between the electrodes. We discuss how the low-energy properties of a Kondo quantum dot subject to dynamical Coulomb blockade resemble those of Kondo impurities in Luttinger liquids. Using previous knowledge based on the bosonization of quantum impurity models, we show that low-voltage conductance anomalies appear at …
We study a quantum dot coupled to two edge states of a quantum spin Hall insulator through electron tunnelings in the presence of a Rashba spin-orbital interaction induced by an external electric field. We show that if the electron interactions on the edge states are repulsive, there are two possible phases, depending on the Luttinger liquid parameter $K$. For $1/2<K<1$, the low-temperature physics is controlled by a previously identified two-channel Kondo fixed point. For the edge states with even stronger repulsive interactions, i.e. $1/4<K<1/2$, the system reaches another phase at low tempe…
We discuss the signatures of a Kramers pair of Majorana modes formed in a Josephson junction on top of a quantum spin Hall system. We show that, while ignoring interactions on the quantum spin Hall edge allows arbitrary Andreev process in the system, moderate repulsive interactions stabilize Andreev transmission - the hole goes into the opposite lead from where the electron has arrived. We analyze the renormalization group equations and deduce the existence of a non-trivial critical point for sufficiently strong interactions.
We investigate the transport properties of a (small) quantum dot connected to Fermi liquid leads with a power-law density of states (DOS). Such a system, if experimentally realizable, will have interesting physical properties including: (i) non-saturating Coulomb blockade peak widths; (ii) a non-unitary Kondo peak symmetrically placed between the Coulomb blockade peaks; (iii) an absence of conductance away from particle-hole symmetry at sufficiently low temperatures; and (iv) evidence of a quantum critical point as a function of dot-lead hopping. These properties are compared and contrasted wi…
Reflection of charge excitations at the step in the interaction strength in a Luttinger liquid can be of the Andreev type, even if the interactions are purely repulsive. The region with stronger repulsion plays the role of a normal metal in a normal-metal /superconductor junction, whereas the region with weaker repulsion plays the role of a superconductor. It is shown that this quasi-Andreev reflection leads to a number of proximity-like effects, including the local enhancement (suppression) of superconducting fluctuations on the quasi-normal (quasi-superconducting) side of the step, significa…
We investigate how the different velocities characterizing the low-energy spectral properties and the low-temperature thermodynamics of one-dimensional correlated electron systems (Luttinger liquids) affect the transport properties of ring-like conductors. The Luttinger liquid ring is coupled to two noninteracting leads and pierced by a magnetic flux. We study the flux dependence of the linear conductance. It shows a dip structure which is governed by the interaction dependent velocities. Our work extends an earlier study which was restricted to rather specific choices of the interaction param…
We investigate a model of a single resonant level coupled to the edge of a quantum wire in the Luttinger liquid phase or to the middle of a chiral Luttinger liquid via both tunneling and a contact interaction. Utilizing the Yuval-Anderson approach, we map this model onto a classical 1D Coulomb gas in which all the details of both the interactions in the lead and the level-lead interaction enter only through the corresponding Fermi-edge singularity exponent, which we explicitly evaluate using the Bethe ansatz solution for a particular model of the lead. Thus the population, dynamical capacitanc…
We investigate a one-dimensional electron liquid with two point scatterers of different strength. In the presence of electron interactions, the nonlinear conductance is shown to depend on the current direction. The resulting asymmetry of the transport characteristic gives rise to a ratchet effect, i.e., the rectification of a dc current for an applied ac voltage. In the case of strong repulsive interactions, the ratchet current grows in a wide voltage interval with decreasing ac voltage. In the regime of weak interaction the current-voltage curve exhibits oscillatory behavior. Our results appl…
We demonstrate that spin current can be generated by an ac voltage in a one-channel quantum wire with strong repulsive electron interactions in the presence of a non-magnetic impurity and uniform static magnetic field. In a certain range of voltages, the spin current can exhibit a power dependence on the ac voltage bias with a negative exponent. The spin current expressed in units of $\hbar/2$ per second can become much larger than the charge current in units of the electron charge per second. The spin current generation requires neither spin-polarized particle injection nor time-dependent mag…

We study the quantum point contact between the topological superconductor and the helical Luttinger liquid. The effects of the electron-electron interactions in the helical Luttinger liquid on the low-energy physics of this system are analyzed by the renormalization group. Among the various couplings at the point contact which arise from the tunneling via the Majorana edge channel, the induced backscattering in the helical Luttinger liquid is the most relevant for repulsive interactions. Hence, at low temperatures, the helical Luttinger liquid is effectively cut into two separated half wires. …
We present a powerful and general approach to describe the coupling of Majorana fermions to external leads, of interacting or non-interacting electrons. Our picture has the Klein factors of bosonization appearing as extra Majoranas hybridizing with the physical ones. We demonstrate the power of this approach by solving a highly nontrivial SO(M) Kondo problem arising in topological superconductors with M Majorana-lead couplings, allowing for arbitrary M and for conduction electron interactions. We find that these topological Kondo problems give rise to robust non-Fermi liquid behavior, even for…
We investigate rectification of a low-frequency ac bias in Y-junctions of one-channel Luttinger liquid wires with repulsive electron interaction. Rectification emerges due to three scatterers in the wires. We find that it is possible to achieve a higher rectification current in a Y-junction than in a single wire with an asymmetric scatterer at the same interaction strength and voltage bias. The rectification effect is the strongest in the absence of the time-reversal symmetry. In that case, the maximal rectification current can be comparable with the total current $\sim e^2V/h$ even for low vo…
We propose and study the charge transport through single and double quantum point contacts setup between helical Majorana modes and an interacting helical Luttinger liquid. We show that the differential conductance decreases for stronger repulsive interactions and that the point contacts become insulating above a critical interaction strength. For a single point contact, the differential conductance as a function of bias voltage shows a series of peaks due to Andreev reflection of electrons in the Majorana modes. In the case of two point contacts, interference phenomena make the structure of t…
We revisit the problem of a single quantum impurity on the edge of a two-dimensional time-reversal invariant topological insulator and show that the zero temperature phase diagram contains a large local moment region for antiferromagnetic Kondo coupling which was missed by previous poor man's scaling treatments. The combination of an exact solution at the so-called decoupling point and a renormalization group analysis à la Anderson-Yuval-Hamann allows us to access the regime of strong electron-electron interactions on the edge and strong Kondo coupling. We apply similar methods to the problem …
We present non-perturbative solutions for multi-level quantum dot structures coupled to interacting one-dimensional electrodes out of equilibrium. At a special correlation strength the Hamiltonian can be mapped to the Kondo problem which possesses a solvable Toulouse point, where all conductance and noise properties can be calculated exactly. Special attention is paid to the fully asymmetric setup when each dot level is coupled to only one of the leads and the electron transport through the structure is accompanied by photon absorption (emission). A relation between the optical spectra and the…
A Luttinger Liquid coupled to a quantum impurity describes a large number of physical systems. The Hamiltonian consists of left- and right-moving fermions interacting among themselves via a density-density coupling and scattering off a localised transmitting and reflecting impurity. We solve exactly the Hamiltonian by means of an incoming-outgoing scattering Bethe basis which properly incorporates all scattering processes. A related model, the Weak-Tunnelling model, wherein the impurity is replaced by a tunnel junction, is solved by the same method. The consistency of the construction is estab…
We study two different metal-insulating transitions possibly occurring in one-dimensional Kondo lattices. First, we show how doping the pure Kondo lattice model in the strong-coupling limit, results in a Pokrovsky-Talapov transition. This produces a conducting state with a charge susceptibility diverging as the inverse of the doping, that seems in agreement with numerical datas. Second, in the weak-coupling region, Kondo insulating transitions arise due to the consequent renormalization of the backward Kondo scattering. Here, the interplay between Kondo effect and electron-electron interaction…
The concept of dynamical symmetries is used for formulation of the renormalization group approach to the Kondo effect in the Anderson model with repulsive and attractive interaction $U$. It is shown that the generic local symmetry of the Anderson Hamiltonian is determined by the SU(4) Lie group. The Anderson Hamiltonian is rewritten in terms of the Gell-Mann matrices of the 4-th rank, which form the set of group generators and the basis for construction of irreducible vector operators describing the excitation spectra in the charge and spin sectors. The multistage Kondo sceening is described i…
Power law suppression of local electronic tunneling density of states (TDOS) in the zero-energy limit is a hallmark of Luttinger liquid (LL) phase of the interacting 1-D electron system. We present a theoretical model which hosts LL state with the surprising feature of enhancement rather than suppression in local TDOS originating from non-local and repulsive density-density interactions. Importantly, we find enhancement of TDOS in the manifold of parameter space where the system is stable in the renormalization group (RG) sense. We argue that enhancement of TDOS along with RG stability is poss…
We propose that the finite size of the Kondo screening cloud, xi_K, can be probed by measuring the charge quantization in a one-dimensional system coupled to a small quantum dot. When the chemical potential, mu in the system is varied at zero temperature, one should observe charge steps whose locations are at values of mu that are controlled by the Kondo effect when the system size L is comparable to xi_K. We show that, if the standard Kondo model is used, the ratio between the widths of the Coulomb blockade valleys with odd or even number of electrons is a universal scaling function of xi_K/L…
We study a quantum phase transition which occurs in a system composed of two impurities (or quantum dots) each coupled to a different interacting (Luttinger-liquid) lead. While the impurities are coupled electrostatically, there is no tunneling between them. Using a mapping of this system onto a Kondo model, we show analytically that the system undergoes a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless quantum phase transition as function of the Luttinger liquid parameter in the leads and the dot-lead interaction. The phase with low values of the Luttinger-liquid parameter is characterized by an abrupt switc…
We study two different parametric pumps for interacting quantum wires, one for pumping spin currents, the other for charge currents. We find that the spin or charge pumped per cycle has a non-universal crossover, depending on pumping details, between two universal fixed point values of 0 and twice the electronic spin or charge quantum number. These universal values are independent of interactions, but the direction of flow between the two values depends on whether the interactions are repulsive or attractive.
Josephson current through a Luttinger liquid (LL) under a magnetic field is theoretically studied. We derive an analytical expression of Josephson current for clean interfaces, by using quasiclassical Green's function and functional bosonization procedure. We show that critical currents can be renormalized by electron-electron interactions at perfect transparency when LL is adiabatically connected with superconductors. We also find that a generation of $π$-state, due to spin-dependent energy shift in Andreev bound states (ABS), is prohibited even at zero temperature when the strength of repuls…
We present the theory and numerical evaluations of the backscattering rate determined by acceptor holes or Mn spins in HgTe and (Hg,Mn)Te quantum wells in the quantum spin Hall regime. The role of anisotropic s-p and sp-d exchange interactions, Kondo coupling, Luttinger liquid effects, precessional dephasing, and bound magnetic polarons is quantified. The determined magnitude and temperature dependence of conductance are in accord with experimental results for HgTe and (Hg,Mn)Te quantum wells.
We discuss how multichannel Kondo physics can arise in the setting of a localized level coupled to several bosonic Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid leads. We propose one physical realization involving ultracold bosonic atoms coupled to an atomic quantum dot, and a second, based on superconducting nanowires coupled to a Cooper-pair box. The corresponding zero-temperature phase diagram is determined via an interplay between Kondo-type phenomena arising from the dot and the consequences of direct inter-lead hopping, which can suppress the Kondo effect. We demonstrate that the multichannel Kondo state is…
We study the low energy physics of a Kondo chain where electrons from a one-dimensional band interact with magnetic moments via an anisotropic exchange interaction. It is demonstrated that the anisotropy gives rise to two different phases which are separated by a quantum phase transition. In the phase with easy plane anisotropy, Z$_2$ symmetry between sectors with different helicity of the electrons is broken. As a result, localization effects are suppressed and the dc transport acquires (partial) symmetry protection. This effect is similar to the protection of the edge transport in time-rever…
