We study quantum corrections at the horizon scale of a black hole induced by a Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) with a quadratic term in the momentum. The interplay between quantum mechanics and gravity manifests itself into a non-zero uncertainty in the location of the black hole radius, which turns out to be larger than the usual Schwarzschild radius. We interpret such an effect as a correction which makes the horizon disappear, as it happens in other models of quantum black holes already considered in literature. We name this kind of horizonless compact objects $GUP stars$. We also investigate some phenomenological aspects in the astrophysical context of binary systems and gravitational wave emission by discussing Love numbers, quasi-normal modes and echoes, and studying their behavior as functions of the GUP deformation parameter. Finally, we preliminarily explore the possibility to constrain such a parameter with future astrophysical experiments.
The generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) modifies the uncertainty relation between momentum and position giving room for a minimal length, as predicted by candidates theories of quantum gravity. Inspired by GUP, Planck's distribution is derived by considering a new quantization of the electromagnetic field. We elaborate on the thermodynamics of the black body radiation obtaining Wien's law and the Stefan-Boltzmann law. We show that such thermodynamics laws are modified at Planck-scale.
The fundamental physical description of Nature is based on two mutually incompatible theories: Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity. Their unification in a theory of Quantum Gravity (QG) remains one of the main challenges of theoretical physics. Quantum Gravity Phenomenology (QGP) studies QG effects in low-energy systems. The basis of one such phenomenological model is the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP), which is a modified Heisenberg uncertainty relation and predicts a deformed canon ical commutator. In this thesis, we compute Planck-scale corrections to angular momentum eigenval…
Based on the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), proposed by some approaches to quantum gravity such as string theory and doubly special relativity theories, we investigate the effect of GUP on the thermodynamic properties of compact stars with two different components. We note that the existence of quantum gravity correction tends to resist the collapse of stars if the GUP parameter $α$ is taking values between Planck scale and electroweak scale. Comparing with approaches, it is found that the radii of compact stars are found smaller. Increasing energy almost exponentially decreases the …

Various gedanken experiments of quantum gravity phenomenology in search of a complete theory of gravity near the Planck scale indicate a modification of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle to the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). This modification leads to nontrivial contributions on the Hamiltonian of a nonrelativistic particle moving in an arbitrary potential. In this paper we study the path integral representation of a particle moving in an arbitrary potential using the most general form of the GUP containing both the linear and quadratic contributions in momentum. First we work out…
Gamow's theory of the implications of quantum tunneling on the star burning has two cornerstones including quantum mechanics and equipartition theorem. It has vastly been proposed that both of these foundations are affected by the existence of a non-zero minimum for length which usually appears in quantum gravity scenarios and leads to the Generalized Uncertainty principle (GUP). Mathematically, in the framework of quantum mechanics, the effects of GUP are considered as perturbation terms. Here, generalizing the de Broglie wavelength relation in the presence of minimal length, GUP correction t…
The Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) has emerged in numerous attempts to a theory of quantum gravity and predicts the existence of a minimum length in Nature. In this work, we consider two cosmological models arising from Friedmann equations modified by the GUP (in its linear and quadratic formulations) and compare them with observational data. Our aim is to derive constraints on the GUP parameter and discuss the viability and physical implications of such models. We find for the parameter in the quadratic formulation the constraint $α^{2}_{Q}<10^{59}$ (tighter than most of those obtain…
In this paper we study the quantum tunneling of Dirac magnetic monopoles from the global monopole black hole under quantum gravity effects. We start from the modified Maxwell's equations and the Generalized Uncertainty Relation (GUP), to recover the GUP corrected temperature for the global monopole black hole by solving the modified Dirac equation via Hamilton-Jacobi method. Furthermore, we also include the quantum corrections beyond the semiclassical approximation, in particular, first we find the logarithmic corrections of GUP corrected entropy and finally we calculate the GUP corrected spec…
The project of \emph{"quantum spacetime phenomenology"} focuses on searching pragmatically for the Planck scale quantum features of spacetime. Among these features is the existence of a characteristic length scale addressed commonly by effective approaches to quantum gravity (QG). This characteristic length scale could be realized, for instance and simply, by generalizing the standard Heisenberg uncertainty principle (HUP) to a \emph{"generalized uncertainty principle"} (GUP). While usually it is expected that phenomena belonging to the realm of QG are essentially probable solely at the so-cal…
In this short note we show how the Generalised Uncertainty Principle (GUP) and the Extended Uncertainty Principle (EUP), two of the most common generalised uncertainty relations proposed in the quantum gravity literature, can be derived within the context of canonical quantum theory, without the need for modified commutation relations. A GUP-type relation naturally emerges when the standard position operator is replaced by an appropriate Positive Operator Valued Measure (POVM), representing a finite-accuracy measurement that localises the quantum wave packet to within a spatial region $σ_g > 0…
In this paper, we employ one variant of the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) model, i.e., the Kempf-Mangano-Mann (KMM) model, and discuss the impact of GUP on the EoS of nuclear and neutron star matter based on the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model. We input the result in the Serrano-Liška (SL) gravity theory to discuss the corresponding Neutron Star (NS) properties. We have shown that the upper bound for the GUP parameter from nuclear matter properties is $β\leq 2\times10^{-7}$ MeV$^{-2}$. If we used this $β$ upper bound to calculate NS matter, and considering SL parameter $\tilde{c}…
The fundamental physical description of the Universe is based on two theories: Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity. Unified theory of Quantum Gravity (QG) is an open problem. Quantum Gravity Phenomenology (QGP) studies QG effects in low-energy systems. The basis of one such phenomenological model is the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP), which is a modified Heisenberg uncertainty relation and predicts a deformed position-momentum commutator. Relativistic Generalized Uncertainty Principle (RGUP) is proposed in this thesis, which gives a Loerentz invariant minimum length and resolves …
A good hundred years after the necessity for a quantum theory of gravity was acknowledged by Albert Einstein, the search for it continues to be an ongoing endeavour. Nevertheless, the field still evolves rapidly as manifested by the recent rise of quantum gravity phenomenology supported by an enormous surge in experimental precision. In particular, the minimum length paradigm ingrained in the program of generalized uncertainty principles (GUPs) is steadily growing in importance. The present thesis is aimed at establishing a link between modified uncertainty relations, derived from deformed can…
The generalized uncertainty principles (GUP) and modified dispersion relations (MDR) are much like two faces for one coin in research for the phenomenology of quantum gravity which apparently plays an important role in estimating the possible modifications of the black hole thermodynamics and the Friedmann equations. We first reproduce the horizon area for different types of black holes and investigate the quantum corrections to Bekenstein-Hawking entropy (entropy-area law). Based on this, we study further thermodynamical quantities and accordingly the modified Friedmann equation in four-dimen…
The influence of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) and extended uncertainty principle (EUP) on the thermodynamics of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe has been investigated. It is shown that the entropy of the apparent horizon of the FRW universe gets a correction if one considers the effect of the GUP or EUP. Moreover, starting with the modified entropy and applying the first law of thermodynamics, $dE=TdS$, to the apparent horizon of the FRW universe, we obtain the modified Friedmann equations. The influence of the GUP or EUP on the thermodynamics of the FRW universe pr…
We construct an effective four dimensional string-corrected black hole (4D SCBH) by rescaling the string coupling parameter in a $D$-dimensional Callan-Myers-Perry black hole. From the theoretical point of view, the most interesting findings are that the string corrections coincide with the so-called generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) corrections to black hole solutions, Bekenstein-Hawking entropy acquires logarithmic corrections, and that there exists a critical value of the coupling parameter for which the black hole temperature vanishes. We also find that, due to the string corrections…
In this work we study the neutron star phenomenology of $R^p$ attractor theories in the Einstein frame. The Einstein frame $R^p$ attractor theories have the attractor property that they originate from a large class of Jordan frame scalar theories with arbitrary non-minimal coupling. These theories in the Einstein frame provide a viable class of inflationary models, and in this work we investigate their implications on static neutron stars. We numerically solve the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations in the Einstein frame, for three distinct equations of state, and we provide the mass-radius d…
After a critical overview of the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) applied to compact objects, we propose a texture of Heisenberg uncertainty principle in curved spacetimes (CHUP). CHUP allows to write down physically motivated STUR (spacetime uncertainty relations) in a generic background for a non commutative spacetime in terms of tetrad variables. In order to study possible quantum effects for compact astrophysical objects as white dwarf, neutron stars and black holes, an expression for quantum fluctuations is outlined. As a result, contrary to GUP-based claims, we found no evidence f…
It is possible that black holes hide a core of Planckian density, sustained by quantum-gravitational pressure. As a black hole evaporates, the core remembers the initial mass and the final explosion occurs at macroscopic scale. We investigate possible phenomenological consequences of this idea. Under several rough assumptions, we estimate that up to several short gamma-ray bursts per day, around 10 MeV, with isotropic distribution, can be expected coming from a region of a few hundred light years around us.
In recent years, the implications of the generalized (GUP) and extended (EUP) uncertainty prin-ciples on Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution have been widely investigated. However, at high energy regimes, the validity of Maxwell-Boltzmann statistics is under debate and instead, the Jüttner distribution is proposed as the distribution function in relativistic limit. Motivated by these considerations, in the present work, our aim is to study the effects of GUP and EUP on a system that obeys the Jüttner distribution. To achieve this goal, we address a method to get the distribution function by startin…
We introduce a phenomenological, physically motivated, model for the effective tidal deformability of a neutron star, adding the frequency dependence (associated with the star's fundamental mode of oscillation) that comes into play during the late stages of the binary inspiral. Testing the model against alternative descriptions, we demonstrate that it provides an accurate representation of the dynamical tide up to close to merger. The simplicity of the prescription makes it an attractive alternative for a gravitational-wave data analysis implementation, facilitating an inexpensive construction…
At the Planck scale the distinction between elementary particles and black holes becomes fuzzy. The very definition of a "quantum black hole" (QBH) is an open issue. Starting from the idea that, at the Planck scale, the radius of the event horizon undergoes quantum oscillations, we introduce a black hole mass-radius Generalised Uncertainty Principle (GUP) and derive a corresponding gravitational wavelength. Next we recover a GUP encoding effective geometry. This semi-classical gravitational description admits black hole configurations only for masses higher than the Planck mass. Quantum correc…
In this work we shall study the implications of a subclass of $E$-models cosmological attractors, namely of $a$-attractors, on hydrodynamically stable slowly rotating neutron stars. Specifically, we shall present the Jordan frame theory of the $a$-attractors, and by using a conformal transformation we shall derive the Einstein frame theory. We discuss the inflationary context of $a$-attractors in order to specify the allowed range of values for the free parameters of the model based on the latest cosmic-microwave-background-based Planck 2018 data. Accordingly, using the notation and physical u…
The thermodynamics of classical and quantum ideal gases based on the Generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) are investigated. At low temperatures, we calculate corrections to the energy and entropy. The equations of state receive small modifications. We study a system comprised of a zero temperature ultra-relativistic Fermi gas. It turns out that at low Fermi energy $\varepsilon_F$, the degenerate pressure and energy are lifted. The Chandrasekhar limit receives a small positive correction. We discuss the applications on configurations of compact stars. As $\varepsilon_F$ increases, the radius…
Gravitational waves from neutron star binary inspirals contain information on strongly-interacting matter in unexplored, extreme regimes. Extracting this requires robust theoretical models of the signatures of matter in the gravitational-wave signals due to spin and tidal effects. In fact, spins can have a significant impact on the tidal excitation of the quasi-normal modes of a neutron star, which is not included in current state-of-the-art waveform models. We develop a simple approximate description that accounts for the Coriolis effect of spin on the tidal excitation of the neutron star's q…
Using the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation and the equation of state of zero temperature ultra-relativistic Fermi gas based on generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), the quantum gravitational effects on the cores of compact stars are discussed. Our results show that ${2m(r)}/ {r}$ varies with $r$. Quantum gravity plays an important role in the region $ r\sim 10^3 r_0$, where $r_0\sim β_0 l_p $, $l_p$ is the Planck length and $β_0$ is a dimensionless parameter accounting for quantum gravity effects. Furthermore, near the center of compact stars, we find that the metric components are $g_{t…
It was recently shown that black holes could be bouncing stars as a consequence of quantum gravity. We investigate the astrophysical signals implied by this hypothesis, focusing on primordial black holes. We consider different possible bounce times and study the integrated diffuse emission.
The solutions for the Tolmann-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation bring valuable informations about the macroscopical features of compact astrophysical objects as neutron stars. They are sensitive to both the equation of state considered for nuclear matter and the background gravitational theory. In this work we construct the TOV equation for a conservative version of the $f(R,T)$ gravity. While the non-vanishing of the covariant derivative of the $f(R,T)$ energy-momentum tensor yields, in a cosmological perspective, the prediction of creation of matter throughout the universe evolution as show…
The goal of this paper is to probe phenomenological implications of large fluctuations of quantum geometry in the Planck era, using cosmology of the early universe. For the background (Friedmann, Lemaître, Robertson, Walker) \emph{quantum} geometry, we allow `widely spread' states in which the \emph{relative} dispersions are as large as $168\%$ in the Planck regime. By introducing suitable methods to overcome the ensuing conceptual and computational issues, we calculate the power spectrum $P_{\mathcal{R}}(k)$ and the spectral index $n_s(k)$ of primordial curvature perturbations. These results …
Many efforts have been devoted to the studies of the phenomenology in particle physics with extra dimensions. We propose degenerate fermion stars with extra dimensions and study what features characterized by the size of extra dimensions should appear in its structure. We find that Kaluza-Klein excited modes arise for the larger scale of extra dimensions and examine the conditions on which different layers should be caused in the inside of the stars. We expound how the extra dimensions affect on physical quantities.
I present two results that show that, despite its unusual non-linear form, the phenomenology of entangled relativity remains close to the one of general relativity -- without having any free parameter that can be fine tuned in order to facilitate this. In particular, I present the analytical solutions for spherically charged black-holes, and both the analytical and numerical solutions for neutron stars.

In this paper, we have used the extended generalized uncertainty principle to investigate the thermodynamics of the Bardeen Black Hole with quintessence matter on the EGUP framework. We started with a brief perusal of the Extended generalized uncertainty principle. Subsequently, the EGUP-modified Hawking temperature, heat capacity, and entropy functions of the Bardeen Black Hole are obtained, which show that the modified uncertainty principles and normalization factor restrict the lower bound value of horizon radius to affect the Hawking temperature. Moreover, we compare and discuss the findin…
In this paper we study the phenomenology of stars and galaxies in massive bigravity. We give parameter conditions for the existence of viable star solutions when the radius of the star is much smaller than the Compton wavelength of the graviton. If these parameter conditions are not met, we constrain the ratio between the coupling constants of the two metrics, in order to give viable conditions for e.g. neutron stars. For galaxies, we put constraints on both the Compton wavelength of the graviton and the conformal factor and coupling constants of the two metrics. The relationship between black…
A handful of recent papers has been devoted to proposals of experiments capable of testing some candidate quantum-gravity phenomena. These lecture notes emphasize those aspects that are most relevant to the questions that come to mind when one is exposed for the first time to these research developments: How come theory and experiments are finally meeting in spite of all the gloomy forecasts that pervade traditional reviews? Is this a case of theorists having put forward more and more speculative ideas until a point was reached at which conventional experiments could rule out the proposed phen…
