In Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG) the quantisation of General Relativity leads to precise predictions for the eigenvalues of geometrical observables like volume and area, up to the value of the only free parameter of the theory, the Barbero-Immirzi (BI) parameter. With the help of the eigenvalues equation for the area operator, LQG successfully derives the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of large black holes with isolated horizons, fixing at this limit the BI parameter as $γ\approx 0.274$. In the present paper we show some evidence that a black hole with angular momentum $\hbar$ and Planck mass is an eigenstate of the area operator provided that $γ= \sqrt{3}/6 \approx 1.05 \times 0.274$. As the black hole is extremal, there is no Hawking radiation and the horizon is isolated. We also suggest that such a black hole can be formed in the head-on scattering of two parallel Standard Model neutrinos in the mass state $m_2$ (assuming $m_1 = 0$). Furthermore, we use the obtained BI parameter to numerically compute the entropy of isolated horizons with areas ranging up to $250\,l_P^2$, by counting the number of micro-states associated to a given area. The resulting entropy has a leading term ${\cal S} \approx 0.25\, {\cal A}$, in agreement to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. As the identification of the above eigenstate rests on the matching between classical areas and quantum area eigenvalues, we also present, on the basis of an effective quantum model for the Schwarzschild black hole recently proposed by Ashtekar, Olmedo and Singh, an expression for the quantum corrected area of isolated horizons, valid for any black hole mass. Quantum corrections are shown to be negligible for a Planck mass black hole, of order $10^{-3}$ relative to the classical area.
Starting with a generalized theory of 2+1 gravity containing an Immirzi like parameter, we derive the modified laws of black hole mechanics using the formalism of weak isolated horizons. Definitions of horizon mass and angular momentum emerge naturally in this framework. We further go on to analyze the asymptotic symmetries, as first discussed by Brown and Henneaux, and analyze their implications in a completely covariant phase space framework.
This paper investigates the implications from area quantization in Loop Quantum Gravity, particularly focusing on the application of the Landauer principle -- a fundamental thermodynamic concept establishing a connection between information theory and thermodynamics. By leveraging the Landauer principle in conjunction with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy law, we derive the usual value for the Immirzi parameter precisely, $γ= \ln2/(π\sqrt{3})$, without using the typical procedure that involves the Boltzmann-Gibbs entropy. Furthermore, following an analogous procedure, we derive a modified expres…
Black hole entropy calculations which are based on counting of microstates and based on modified dispersion relations in the framework of loop quantum gravity are considered. We suggest that the inconsistency of two approaches can be explained by different ways. This inconsistency can affect the definition and constancy of the Immirzi parameter or order of the modification constants of dispersion relations. Possible results of these effects are discussed.
In the context of f(R) generalizations to the Holst action, endowed with a dynamical Immirzi field, we derive an analytic solution describing asymptotically Anti-de Sitter black holes with hyperbolic horizon. These exhibit a scalar hair of the second kind, which ultimately depends on the Immirzi field radial behaviour. In particular, we show how the Immirzi field modifies the usual entropy law associated to the black hole. We also verify that the Immirzi field boils down to a constant value in the asymptotic region, thus restoring the standard Loop Quantum Gravity picture. We finally prove the…

{\it If} the total number of punctures($N$) of a quantum isolated horizon is considered to be a macroscopic parameter alongside the Chern-Simons level($k$) or equivalently classical area$(A_{cl})$ a strict analysis of the {\it microcanonical} ensemble reveals that the {\it microcanonical} entropy has the form $S_{MC}=A_{cl}/4\ell_p^2+Nσ(γ)$, only for values of the Barbero-Immirzi(BI) parameter$(γ)$ greater than a certain number. It is argued that the term $Nσ(γ)$ must be negative definite, which leads to the bound on the BI parameter.
The Immirzi ambiguity arises in loop quantum gravity when geometric operators are represented in terms of different connections that are related by means of an extended Wick transform. We analyze the action of this transform in gravity coupled with matter fields and discuss its analogy with the Wick rotation on which the Thiemann transform between Euclidean and Lorentzian gravity is based. In addition, we prove that the effect of this extended Wick transform is equivalent to a constant scale transformation as far as the symplectic structure and kinematical constraints are concerned. This equiv…
By pointing out an error in the previous derivation of the area spectrum based on Ashtekar's variables, we suggest a new area spectrum; instead of the norm of Ashtekar's gravitational electric field, we show that the norm of our "new" gravitational electric field based on our "newer" variables, which we construct in this paper for this purpose, gives the correct area spectrum. In particular, our "newer" variables are mathematically consistent; the constraint algebra is closed. Moreover, by using our new area spectrum, we "almost correctly" predict the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy without having …
Microscopic state counting for a black hole in Loop Quantum Gravity yields a result proportional to horizon area, and inversely proportional to Newton's constant and the Immirzi parameter. It is argued here that before this result can be compared to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of a macroscopic black hole, the scale dependence of both Newton's constant and the area must be accounted for. The two entropies could then agree for any value of the Immirzi parameter, if a certain renormalization property holds.
The geometrical spectra in loop quantum gravity (LQG) suffer from ambiguity up to the free Immirzi parameter that is often determined by comparing results from the theory with the established dynamics at the black hole horizon. We address conceptual difficulties associated with such approaches and point out that the Immirzi parameter can be fixed naively by applying the LQG version of the equipartition rule at a holographic boundary such that the Hawking-Unruh temperature law follows. The value of the Immirzi parameter derived in this way should possess universal validity. This approach also p…
Based on the first-order action for scalar-tensor theories with the Immirzi parameter, the symplectic form for the spacetimes admitting a weakly isolated horizon as internal boundary is derived by the covariant phase space approach. The first law of thermodynamics for the weakly isolated horizons with rotational symmetry is obtained. It turns out that the Immirzi parameter appears in the expression of the angular momentum of isolated horizon, and the scalar field contributes to the horizon entropy.
A `black hole sector' of non-perturbative canonical quantum gravity is introduced. The quantum black hole degrees of freedom are shown to be described by a Chern-Simons field theory on the horizon. It is shown that the entropy of a large non-rotating black hole is proportional to its horizon area. The constant of proportionality depends upon the Immirzi parameter, which fixes the spectrum of the area operator in loop quantum gravity; an appropriate choice of this parameter gives the Bekenstein-Hawking formula S = A/4*l_p^2. With the same choice of the Immirzi parameter, this result also holds …
It is argued that, using the black hole area entropy law together with the Boltzmann-Gibbs statistical mechanics and the quasinormal modes of the black holes, it is possible to determine univocally the lowest possible value for the spin $j$ in the context of the Loop Quantum Gravity theory which is $j_{min}=1$. Consequently, the value of Immirzi parameter is given by $γ= \ln 3/(2π\sqrt{2})$. In this paper, we have shown that if we use Tsallis microcanonical entropy rather than Boltzmann-Gibbs framework then the minimum value of the label $j$ depends on the nonextensive $q$-parameter and may ha…
In this letter we have shown that a possible connection between the LQG Immirzi parameter and the area of a punctured surface can emerge depending on the thermostatistics theory previously chosen. Starting from the Boltzmann-Gibbs entropy, the Immirzi parameter can be reobtained. Using the Kaniadakis statistics, which is an important non-Gaussian statistics, we have derived a new relation between the Immirzi parameter, the kappa parameter and the area of a punctured surface. After that, we have compared our result with the Immirzi parameter previously obtained in the literature within the cont…
One parameter quantization ambiguity is existed in Loop quantum gravity which is called the Immirzi parameter. In this paper, we fix this free paremater by considering the quasinormal mode spectrum of black holes in four and higher spacetime dimensions. As a consequence, our result consistents with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of a black hole. Moreover, we also give a possible quantum gravity explanation of the universal $\ln(3)$ behavior of the quasinormal mode spectrum.
We analyze changes of the Immirzi parameter in loop quantum gravity and compare their consequences with those of Lorentz boosts and constant conformal transformations in black hole physics. We show that the effective value deduced for the Planck length in local measurements of vacuum black holes by an asymptotic observer may depend on its conformal or Lorentz frame. This introduces an apparent ambiguity in the expression of the black hole entropy which is analogous to that produced by the Immirzi parameter. For quantities involving a notion of energy, the similarity between the implications of…
The framework of SO(3,2) constrained BF theory applied to gravity makes it possible to generalize formulas for gravitational diffeomorphic Noether charges (mass, angular momentum, and entropy). It extends Wald's approach to the case of first order gravity with a negative cosmological constant, the Holst modification and the topological terms (Nieh-Yan, Euler, and Pontryagin). Topological invariants play essential role contributing to the boundary terms in the regularization scheme for the asymptotically AdS spacetimes, so that the differentiability of the action is automatically secured. Intri…
We argue that the effective gauge group for {\it pure} four-dimensional loop quantum gravity(LQG) is SO(3) (or $SO(3,C)$) instead of SU(2) (or $SL(2,C)$). As a result, links with half-integer spins in spin network states are not realized for {\it pure} LQG, implying a modification of the spectra of area and volume operators. Our observations imply a new value of $γ\approx 0.170$ for the Immirzi parameter which is obtained from matching the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy to the number of states from LQG calculations. Moreover, even if the dominant contribution to the entropy is not assumed to come …
It is argued that the quantum of area between consecutive, high overtones quasinormal modes of a black hole horizon coincides with the area gap predicted by Loop Quantum Gravity, as long as the horizon is isolated and the Barbero-Immirzi parameter is $γ\approx \sqrt{3}/6$, in agreement with the value derived from the Bekenstein-Hawking horizon entropy.
We argue for black hole entropy in loop quantum gravity (LQG) by taking into account the interpretation that there is no other side of the horizon. This gives new values for the Barbero-Immirzi parameter which are fairly larger than those considered before. We also discuss its consequences.
We derive and analyze Noether charges associated with the diffeomorphism invariance for the constrained SO(2,3) BF theory. This result generalizes the Wald approach to the case of the first order gravity with a negative cosmological constant, the Holst modification and topological terms (Nieh-Yan, Euler, and Pontryagin). We show that differentiability of the action is automatically implemented by the the structure of the constrained BF model. Finally, we calculate the AdS--Schwarzschild black hole entropy from the Noether charge and we find that, unexpectedly, it does not depend on the Immirzi…
A proper counting of states for black holes in the quantum geometry approach shows that the dominant configuration for spins are distributions that include spins exceeding one-half at the punctures. This raises the value of the Immirzi parameter and the black hole entropy. However, the coefficient of the logarithmic correction remains -1/2 as before.
We reexmine some proposals of black hole entropy in loop quantum gravity (LQG) and consider a new possible choice of the Immirzi parameter which has not been pointed out so far. We also discuss that a new idea is inevitable if we regard the relation between the area spectrum in LQG and that in the quasinormal mode analysis seriously.
We present a statistical mechanical calculation of the thermodynamical properties of (non rotating) isolated horizons. The introduction of Planck scale allows for the definition of an universal horizon temperature (independent of the mass of the black hole) and a well-defined notion of energy (as measured by suitable local observers) proportional to the horizon area in Planck units. The microcanonical and canonical ensembles associated with the system are introduced. Black hole entropy and other thermodynamical quantities can be consistently computed in both ensembles and results are in agreem…
Recent suggestion, that the emission of a quantum of energy corresponding to the asymptotic value of quasinormal modes of a Schwarzschild black hole should be associated with the loss of spin one punctures from the black hole horizon, fixes the Immirzi parameter to a definite value. We show that saturating the horizon with spin one punctures reproduces the earlier formula for the black hole entropy, including the $ln (area)$ correction with definite coefficient (- 3/2) for large area.
Equilibrium states of black holes can be modelled by isolated horizons. If the intrinsic geometry is spherical, they are called type I while if it is axi-symmetric, they are called type II. The detailed theory of geometry of \emph{quantum} type I horizons and the calculation of their entropy can be generalized to type II, thereby including arbitrary distortions and rotations. The leading term in entropy of large horizons is again given by 1/4th of the horizon area for the \emph{same} value of the Barbero-Immirzi parameter as in the type I case. Ideas and constructions underlying this extension…
The Kodama State for Lorentzian gravity presupposes a particular value for the Immirzi-parameter, namely $β=-i$. However, the derivation of black hole entropy in Loop Quantum Gravity suggests that the Immirzi parameter is a fixed value whose magnitude is on the order of unity but larger than one. Since the Kodama state has de-Sitter spacetime as its classical limit, to get the proper radiation temperature, the Kodama state should be extended to incorporate a more physical value for $β$. Thus, we present an extension of the Kodama state for arbitrary values of the Immirzi parameter, $β$, that r…
We study the classical field theoretical formulation of static generic isolated horizons in a manifestly SU(2) invariant formulation. We show that the usual classical description requires revision in the non-static case due to the breaking of diffeomorphism invariance at the horizon leading to the non conservation of the usual pre-symplectic structure. We argue how this difficulty could be avoided by a simple enlargement of the field content at the horizon that restores diffeomorphism invariance. Restricting our attention to static isolated horizons we study the effective theories describing t…
We consider the possibility that the horizon area is expressed by the general area spectrum in loop quantum gravity and calculate the black hole entropy by counting the degrees of freedom in spin-network states related to its area. Although the general area spectrum has a complex expression, we succeeded in obtaining the result that the black hole entropy is proportional to its area as in previous works where the simplified area formula has been used. This gives new values for the Barbero-Immirzi parameter ($γ=0.5802... \mathrm{or} 0.7847...$) which are larger than that of previous works.
The Barbero-Immirzi parameter ($γ$) is introduced in loop quantum gravity (LQG) whose physical significance is still a biggest open question; because of its profound traits. In some cases, it is real-valued; while, it is complex-valued in other cases. This parameter emerges out in the process of denoting a Lorentz connection with non compact group $SO(3,1)$ in the form of a complex connection with values in a compact group of rotations, either $SO(3)$ or $SU(2)$. Initially, it was appeared in the Ashtekar variables. Fernando Barbero proposed its possibility to include within formalism. Its pre…
An equidistant spectrum of the horizon area of a quantized black hole does not follow from the correspondence principle or from general statistical arguments. Such a spectrum obtained earlier in loop quantum gravity (LQG) does not comply with the holographic bound. This bound fixes the Barbero-Immirzi parameter of LQG, and thus leads to the unique result for the spectrum of horizon area.
The black hole entropy calculation for type I isolated horizons, based on loop quantum gravity, is extended to include non-minimally coupled scalar fields. Although the non-minimal coupling significantly modifies quantum geometry, the highly non-trivial consistency checks for the emergence of a coherent description of the quantum horizon continue to be met. The resulting expression of black hole entropy now depends also on the scalar field precisely in the fashion predicted by the first law in the classical theory (with the same value of the Barbero-Immirzi parameter as in the case of minimal …
We argue, using methods taken from the theory of noiseless subsystems in quantum information theory, that the quantum states associated with a Schwarzchild black hole live in the restricted subspace of the Hilbert space of horizon boundary states in which all punctures are equal. Consequently, one value of the Immirzi parameter matches both the Hawking value for the entropy and the quasi normal mode spectrum of the Schwarzchild black hole. The method of noiseless subsystems thus allows us to understand, in this example and more generally, how symmetries, which take physical states to physical …
The Barbero-Immirzi parameter $γ$ appears in the \emph{real} connection formulation of gravity in terms of the Ashtekar variables, and gives rise to a one-parameter quantization ambiguity in Loop Quantum Gravity. In this paper we investigate the conditions under which $γ$ will have physical effects in Euclidean Quantum Gravity. This is done by constructing a well-defined Euclidean path integral for the Holst action with non-zero cosmological constant on a manifold with boundary. We find that two general conditions must be satisfied by the spacetime manifold in order for the Holst action and it…
In this paper, the isolated horizons with rotation are considered. It is shown that the symplectic form is the same as that in the nonrotating case. As a result, the boundary degrees of freedom can be also described by an SO$(1,1)$ BF theory. The entropy satisfies the Bekenstein-Hawking area law with the same Barbero-Immirzi parameter.
Loop quantum gravity can account for the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of a black hole provided a free parameter is chosen appropriately. Recently, it was proposed that a new choice of the Immirzi parameter could predict both black hole entropy and the frequencies of quasinormal modes in the large $n$ limit, but at the price of changing the gauge group of the theory. In this note we use a simple physical argument within loop quantum gravity to arrive at the same value of the parameter. The argument uses strongly the necessity of having fermions satisfying basic symmetry and conservation principle…
Several recent results have hinted that black hole thermodynamics in loop quantum gravity simplifies if one chooses an imaginary Barbero-Immirzi parameter $γ=i$. This suggests a connection with $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$ or $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ conformal field theories at the "boundaries" formed by spin network edges intersecting the horizon. I present a bit of background regarding the relevant conformal field theories, along with some speculations about how they might be used to count black hole states. I show, in particular, that a set of unproven but plausible assumptions can lead t…
Considering the possibility of `renormalization' of the gravitational constant on the horizon, leading to a dependence on the level of the associated Chern-Simons theory, a rescaled area spectrum is proposed for the non-rotating black hole horizon in loop quantum gravity. The statistical mechanical calculation leading to the entropy provides a unique choice of the rescaling function for which the Bekenstein-Hawking area law is yielded without the need to choose the Barbero-Immirzi parameter $(γ)$. $γ$ is determined by studying the limit in which the `renormalized' gravitational constant on the…
In loop quantum gravity, the number $N_Γ(A,γ)$ of microstates of a black hole for a given discrete geometry $Γ$ depends on the so-called Barbero-Immirzi parameter $γ$. Using a suitable analytic continuation of $γ$ to complex values, we show that the number $N_Γ(A,\pm i)$ of microstates behaves as $\exp(A/(4\ell_\text{Pl}^2))$ for large area $A$ in the large spin semiclassical limit. Such a correspondence with the semiclassical Bekenstein-Hawking entropy law points towards an unanticipated and remarkable feature of the original complex Ashtekar variables for quantum gravity.
The issue of a possible damping of the entropy periodicity for large black holes in Loop Quantum Gravity is highly debated. Using a combinatorics/analysis approach, we give strong arguments in favor of this damping, at least for prescriptions where the projection constraint is not fully implemented. This means that black holes in loop gravity exhibit an asymptotic Bekenstein-Hawking behavior, provided that a consistent choice of the Immirzi constant is made.
In loop quantum gravity, the quantum geometry of a black hole horizon consist of discrete non-perturbative quantum geometric excitations (or punctures) labeled by spins, which are responsible for the quantum area of the horizon. If these punctures are compared to a gas of particles, then the spins associated with the punctures can be viewed as single puncture area levels analogous to single particle energy levels. Consequently, if we {\it assume} these punctures to be {\it indistinguishable}, the microstate count for the horizon resembles that of Bose-Einstein counting formula for gas of parti…
Quantum black holes within the loop quantum gravity (LQG) framework are considered. The number of microscopic states that are consistent with a black hole of a given horizon area $A_0$ are counted and the statistical entropy, as a function of the area, is obtained for $A_0$ up to $550 l^2_{\rm Pl}$. The results are consistent with an asymptotic linear relation and a logarithmic correction with a coefficient equal to -1/2. The Barbero-Immirzi parameter that yields the asymptotic linear relation compatible with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is shown to coincide with a value close to $γ=0.274$, …
One ambiguity in loop quantum gravity is the appearance of a free parameter which is called Immirzi parameter. Recently Dreyer has argued that this parameter may be fixed by considering the quasinormal mode spectrum of black holes, while at the price of changing the gauge group to SO(3) rather than the original one SU(2). Physically such a replacement is not quite natural or desirable. In this paper we study the relationship between the black hole entropy and the quasi normal mode spectrum in the loop quantization of N=1 supergravity. We find that a single value of the Immirzi parameter agrees…
Quantum Geometry (the modern Loop Quantum Gravity using graphs and spin-networks instead of the loops) provides microscopic degrees of freedom that account for the black-hole entropy. However, the procedure for state counting used in the literature contains an error and the number of the relevant horizon states is underestimated. In our paper a correct method of counting is presented. Our results lead to a revision of the literature of the subject. It turns out that the contribution of spins greater then 1/2 to the entropy is not negligible. Hence, the value of the Barbero-Immirzi parameter in…
We point out that the symplectic structure, written in terms of the Sen-Ashtekar-Immirzi-Barbero variables, of a spacetime admitting an isolated horizon as the inner boundary, involves a positive constant parameter, say $σ$, if $γ\neq\pm i$, where $γ$ is the Barbero-Immirzi parameter. The parameter $σ$ represents the rescaling freedom that characterizes the equivalence class of null generators of the isolated horizon. We reiterate the fact that the laws of mechanics associated with the isolated horizon does not depend on the choice of $σ$ and, in particular, while one uses the value of standar…
An equidistant spectrum of the horizon area of a quantized black hole does not follow from the correspondence principle or from general statistical arguments. On the other hand, such a spectrum obtained in loop quantum gravity (LQG) either does not comply with the holographic bound, or demands a special choice of the Barbero-Immirzi parameter for the horizon surface, distinct from its value for other quantized surfaces. The problem of distinguishability of edges in LQG is discussed, with the following conclusion. Only under the assumption of partial distinguishability of the edges, the microca…
Isolated horizons model equilibrium states of classical black holes. A detailed quantization, starting from a classical phase space restricted to spherically symmetric horizons, exists in the literature and has since been extended to axisymmetry. This paper extends the quantum theory to horizons of arbitrary shape. Surprisingly, the Hilbert space obtained by quantizing the full phase space of \textit{all} generic horizons with a fixed area is identical to that originally found in spherical symmetry. The entropy of a large horizon remains one quarter its area, with the Barbero-Immirzi parameter…
The entropy of a black hole can be obtained by counting states in loop quantum gravity. The dominant term depends on the Immirzi parameter involved in the quantization and is proportional to the area of the horizon, while there is a logarithmic correction with coefficient -1/2.
We show that the spherically symmetric isolated horizon can be described in terms of an SU(2) connection and a su(2) valued one form, obeying certain constraints. The horizon symplectic structure is precisely the one of 3d gravity in a first order formulation. We quantize the horizon degrees of freedom in the framework of loop quantum gravity, with methods recently developed for 3d gravity with non-vanishing cosmological constant. Bulk excitations ending on the horizon act very similar to particles in 3d gravity. The Bekenstein-Hawking law is recovered in the limit of imaginary Barbero-Immirzi…
We compute the entropy of non-extremal black holes using the quantum dynamics of Loop Gravity. The horizon entropy is finite, scales linearly with the area A, and reproduces the Bekenstein-Hawking expression S = A/4 with the one-fourth coefficient for all values of the Immirzi parameter. The near-horizon geometry of a non-extremal black hole - as seen by a stationary observer - is described by a Rindler horizon. We introduce the notion of a quantum Rindler horizon in the framework of Loop Gravity. The system is described by a quantum surface and the dynamics is generated by the boost Hamiltoni…
We revisit the predictions for the duration of the inflationary phase after the bounce in loop quantum cosmology. We present our analysis for different classes of inflationary potentials that include the monomial power-law chaotic type of potentials, the Starobinsky and the Higgs-like symmetry breaking potential with different values for the vacuum expectation value. Our setup can easily be extended to other forms of primordial potentials than the ones we have considered. Independently on the details of the contracting phase, if the dynamics starts sufficiently in the far past, the kinetic ene…
The results of canonical quantum gravity concerning geometric operators and black hole entropy are beset by an ambiguity labelled by the Immirzi parameter. We use a result from classical gravity concerning the quasinormal mode spectrum of a black hole to fix this parameter in a new way. As a result we arrive at the Bekenstein - Hawking expression of $A/4 l_P^2$ for the entropy of a black hole and in addition see an indication that the appropriate gauge group of quantum gravity is SO(3) and not its covering group SU(2).
Starting from recent observations\cite{hod,dreyer1} about quasi-normal modes, we use semi-classical arguments to derive the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy spectrum for $d$-dimensional spherically symmetric black holes. We find that the entropy spectrum is equally spaced: $S_{BH}=k \ln(m_0)n$, where $m_0$ is a fixed integer that must be derived from the microscopic theory. As shown in \cite{dreyer1},4-$d$ loop quantum gravity yields precisely such a spectrum with $m_0=3$ providing the Immirzi parameter is chosen appropriately. For $d$-dimensional black holes of radius $R_H(M)$, our analysis require…
A quantum isolated horizon can be modeled by an SU(2) Chern-Simons theory on a punctured 2-sphere. We show how a local 2-dimensional conformal symmetry arises at each puncture inducing an infinite set of new observables localized at the horizon which satisfy a Kac-Moody algebra. By means of the isolated horizon boundary conditions, we represent the gravitational fluxes degrees of freedom in terms of the zero modes of the Kac-Moody algebra defined on the boundary of a punctured disk. In this way, our construction encodes a precise notion of CFT/gravity correspondence. The higher modes in the al…
In the framework of loop quantum gravity (LQG), having quantum black holes in mind, we generalize the previous boundary state counting (gr-qc/0508085) to a full bulk state counting. After a suitable gauge fixing we are able to compute the bulk entropy of a bounded region (the "black hole") with fixed boundary. This allows us to study the relationship between the entropy and the boundary area in details and we identify a holographic regime of LQG where the leading order of the entropy scales with the area. We show that in this regime we can fine tune the factor between entropy and area without …
We model spherically symmetric black holes within the group field theory formalism for quantum gravity via generalised condensate states, involving sums over arbitrarily refined graphs (dual to 3d triangulations). The construction relies heavily on both the combinatorial tools of random tensor models and the quantum geometric data of loop quantum gravity, both part of the group field theory formalism. Armed with the detailed microscopic structure, we compute the entropy associated with the black hole horizon, which turns out to be equivalently the Boltzmann entropy of its microscopic degrees o…
We construct condensate states encoding the continuum spherically symmetric quantum geometry of an horizon in full quantum gravity, i.e. without any classical symmetry reduction, in the group field theory formalism. Tracing over the bulk degrees of freedom, we show how the resulting reduced density matrix manifestly exhibits an holographic behavior. We derive a complete orthonormal basis of eigenstates for the reduced density matrix of the horizon and use it to compute the horizon entanglement entropy. By imposing consistency with the horizon boundary conditions and semiclassical thermodynamic…
We give an account of the state of the art about black hole entropy in Loop Quantum Gravity. This chapter contains a historical summary and explains how black hole entropy is described by relying on the concept of isolated horizon, with an emphasis on different representations of its associated symmetry group. It continues with a review of the combinatorial methods necessary to understand the behavior of the entropy as a function of the area and concludes with a discussion of the nature of the quantum horizon degrees of freedom that account for the black hole entropy and the related issue of t…
