We construct classical theories for scalar fields in arbitrary Carroll spacetimes that are invariant under Carrollian diffeomorphisms and Weyl transformations. When the local symmetries are gauge fixed these theories become Carrollian conformal field theories. We show that generically there are at least two types of such theories: one in which only time derivatives of the fields appear and the other in which both space and time derivatives appear. A classification of such scalar field theories in three (and higher) dimensions up to two derivative order is provided. We show that only a special case of our theories arises in the ultra-relativistic limit of a covariant parent theory.
Recent attempts at the construction of holography for asymptotically flat spacetimes have taken two different routes. Celestial holography, involving a two dimensional (2d) CFT dual to 4d Minkowski spacetime, has generated novel results in asymptotic symmetry and scattering amplitudes. A different formulation, using Carrollian CFTs, has been principally used to provide some evidence for flat holography in lower dimensions. Understanding of flatspace scattering has been lacking in the Carroll framework. In this work, using ideas from Celestial holography, we show that 3d Carrollian CFTs living …

We investigate two dimensional (2d) quantum field theories which exhibit Non- Lorentzian Kač-Moody (NLKM) algebras as their underlying symmetry. Our investigations encompass both 2d Galilean (speed of light $c \rightarrow \infty$) and Carrollian ($c \rightarrow 0$) CFTs with additional number of infinite non-Abelian currents, stemming from an isomorphism between the two algebras. We alternate between an intrinsic and a limiting analysis. Our NLKM algebra is constructed first through a contraction and then derived from an intrinsically Carrollian perspective. We then go on to use the symmetries…
We study the renormalization group flow equations for correlation functions of weakly coupled quantum field theories in AdS. Taking the limit where the external points approach the conformal boundary, we obtain a flow of conformally invariant correlation functions. We solve the flow for one- and two-point functions and show that the corrections to the conformal dimensions can be obtained as an integral over the Mellin amplitude of the four-point function. We also derive the flow of the Mellin amplitude for higher $n$-point functions. We then consider the flows at tree level and one loop (in Ad…
We propose an algebraic construction of the operator-state correspondence in non-relativistic conformal field theories by explicitly constructing an automorphism of the Schrödinger algebra relating generators in different frames. It is shown that the construction follows closely that of relativistic conformal field theories.
We develop a first order formalism for constructing gravitational duals of conformal defects in a bottom up approach. Similarly as for the flat domain walls a single function specifies the solution completely. Using this formalism we construct several novel families of analytic solutions dual to conformal interfaces and boundaries. As a sample application we study the boundary OPE and entanglement entropy for one of the found defects.
An S-fold has played an important role in constructing supersymmetric field theories with interesting features. It can be viewed as a type of AdS_4 solutions of Type IIB string theory where the fields in overlapping patches are glued by elements of SL(2,Z). This paper examines three dimensional quiver theories that arise from brane configurations with an inclusion of the S-fold. An important feature of such a quiver is that it contains a link, which is the T(U(N)) theory, between two U(N) groups, along with bifundamental and fundamental hypermultiplets. We systematically study the moduli space…
This paper is designed to be a practical tool for constructing and investigating two-point correlation functions in defect conformal field theory, directly in physical space, between any two bulk primaries or between a bulk primary and a defect primary, with arbitrary spin. Although geometrically elegant and ultimately a more powerful approach, the embedding space formalism gets rather cumbersome when dealing with mixed symmetry tensors, especially in the projection to physical space. The results in this paper provide an alternative method for studying two-point correlation functions for a gen…
The most common quantization scheme in which to study a conformal field theory is radial quantization, wherein a Hilbert space of states is defined on a sphere, whose Hamiltonian when mapped to the plane is the dilatation generator and which boasts a state/operator correspondence. In this paper, we consider an alternative quantization scheme for 2d CFTs in which the plane is foliated by constant-angle slices, as opposed to concentric circles, whose Hamiltonian is the rotation generator. In this angular quantization, there is no state/operator correspondence but instead an "asymptotics/operator…
Assuming the existence of a field theory in D dimensions dual to (D+1)-dimensional flat space, governed by the asymptotic symmetries of flat space, we make some preliminary remarks about the properties of this field theory. We review briefly some successes of the 3d bulk - 2d boundary case and then focus on the 4d bulk - 3d boundary example, where the symmetry in question is the infinite dimensional BMS4 algebra. We look at the constraints imposed by this symmetry on a 3d field theory by constructing highest weight representations of this algebra. We construct two and three point functions of …
