Fine-grained image classification is a challenging problem, since the difficulty of finding discriminative features. To handle this circumstance, basically, there are two ways to go. One is use attention based method to focus on informative areas, while the other one aims to find high order between features. Further, for attention based method there are two directions, activation based and detection based, which are proved effective by scholars. However ,rare work focus on fusing two types of attention with high order feature. In this paper, we propose a novel DAF method which fuse two types of attention and use them to as PAF(part attention filter) in deep bilinear transformation module to mine the relationship between separate parts of an object. Briefly, our network constructed by a student net who attempt to output two attention maps and a teacher net uses these two maps as empirical information to refine the result. The experiment result shows that only student net could get 87.6% accuracy in CUB dataset while cooperating with teacher net could achieve 89.1% accuracy.

This paper addresses the visualisation of image classification models, learnt using deep Convolutional Networks (ConvNets). We consider two visualisation techniques, based on computing the gradient of the class score with respect to the input image. The first one generates an image, which maximises the class score [Erhan et al., 2009], thus visualising the notion of the class, captured by a ConvNet. The second technique computes a class saliency map, specific to a given image and class. We show that such maps can be employed for weakly supervised object segmentation using classification ConvNe…

This paper investigates the role of saliency to improve the classification accuracy of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for the case when scarce training data is available. Our approach consists in adding a saliency branch to an existing CNN architecture which is used to modulate the standard bottom-up visual features from the original image input, acting as an attentional mechanism that guides the feature extraction process. The main aim of the proposed approach is to enable the effective training of a fine-grained recognition model with limited training samples and to improve the perform…
We have developed a convolutional neural network for the purpose of recognizing facial expressions in human beings. Generalization of results was evident by training on one dataset and testing on the other. Further, the image product of the cropped faces and their visual saliency maps were computed u…

Computational saliency models for still images have gained significant popularity in recent years. Saliency prediction from videos, on the other hand, has received relatively little interest from the community. Motivated by this, in this work, we study the use of deep learning for dynamic saliency prediction and propose the so-called spatio-temporal saliency networks. The key to our models is the architecture of two-stream networks where we investigate different fusion mechanisms to integrate spatial and temporal information. We evaluate our models on the DIEM and UCF-Sports datasets and prese…

In the past few years, Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) became a prevalent research topic. By defining two convolutional neural networks (G-Network and D-Network) and introducing an adversarial procedure between them during the training process, GAN has ability to generate good quality images that look like natural images from a random vector. Besides image generation, GAN may have potential to deal with wide range of real world problems. In this paper, we follow the basic idea of GAN and propose a novel model for image saliency detection, which is called Supervised Adversarial Networks (S…
Traditional saliency models usually adopt hand-crafted image features and human-designed mechanisms to calculate local or global contrast. In this paper, we propose a novel computational saliency model, i.e., deep spatial contextual long-term recurrent convolutional network (DSCLRCN) to predict where people looks in natural scenes. DSCLRCN first automatically learns saliency related local features on each image location in parallel. Then, in contrast with most other deep network based saliency models which infer saliency in local contexts, DSCLRCN can mimic the cortical lateral inhibition mech…

This paper presents a novel deep architecture for saliency prediction. Current state of the art models for saliency prediction employ Fully Convolutional networks that perform a non-linear combination of features extracted from the last convolutional layer to predict saliency maps. We propose an architecture which, instead, combines features extracted at different levels of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Our model is composed of three main blocks: a feature extraction CNN, a feature encoding network, that weights low and high level feature maps, and a prior learning network. We compare …

TASED-Net is a 3D fully-convolutional network architecture for video saliency detection. It consists of two building blocks: first, the encoder network extracts low-resolution spatiotemporal features from an input clip of several consecutive frames, and then the following prediction network decodes the encoded features spatially while aggregating all the temporal information. As a result, a single prediction map is produced from an input clip of multiple frames. Frame-wise saliency maps can be predicted by applying TASED-Net in a sliding-window fashion to a video. The proposed approach assumes…
We propose a framework inspired by biological vision systems to produce saliency maps of digital images. Well-known computational models for receptive fields of areas in the visual cortex that are specialized for color and orientation perception are used. To model the connectivity between these areas we use the CARLsim library which is a spiking neural network(SNN) simulator. The spikes generated by CARLsim, then serve as extracted features and input to our saliency detection algorithm. This new method of saliency detection is described and applied to benchmark images.

Here we propose a unified multi-task learning framework to jointly solve WSSS and SD using a single network, \ie saliency, and segmentation network (SSNet). SSNet consists of a segmentation network (SN) and a saliency aggregation module (SAM). For an input image, SN generates the segmentation result and, SAM predicts the saliency of each category…

Co-saliency detection within a single image is a common vision problem that has received little attention and has not yet been well addressed. Existing methods often used a bottom-up strategy to infer co-saliency in an image in which salient regions are firstly detected using visual primitives such as color and shape and then grouped and merged into a co-saliency map. However, co-saliency is intrinsically perceived complexly with bottom-up and top-down strategies combined in human vision. To address this problem, this study proposes a novel end-to-end trainable network comprising a backbone ne…

Predicting saliency in videos is a challenging problem due to complex modeling of interactions between spatial and temporal information, especially when ever-changing, dynamic nature of videos is considered. Recently, researchers have proposed large-scale datasets and models that take advantage of deep learning as a way to understand what's important for video saliency. These approaches, however, learn to combine spatial and temporal features in a static manner and do not adapt themselves much to the changes in the video content. Saliency computation has become a popular research field for many applications due to the useful information provided by saliency maps. For a saliency map, local relations around the salient regions in multi-channel perspective should be taken into consideration by aiming uniformity on the region of interest as an internal approach. And, irrelevant salient regions have to be avoided as much as possible. Most of the works achieve these criteria with external processing modules; however, these can be accomplished during the conspicuity map fusion process. Therefore, in this paper, a new model is…
