The nonminimal coupling of the nonzero vacuum expectation value of the self-interacting antisymmetric Kalb-Ramond field with gravity leads to a power-law hairy black hole having a parameter $s$, which encompasses the Reissner$-$Nordstrom black hole ($s=1$). We obtain the axially symmetric counterpart of this hairy solution, namely, the rotating Kalb-Ramond black hole, which encompasses, as special cases, Kerr ($s=0$) and Kerr-Newman ($s=1$) black holes. Interestingly, for a set of parameters ($M, a$, and $Γ$), there exists an extremal value of the Kalb-Ramond parameter ($s=s_{e}$), which corresponds to an extremal black hole with degenerate horizons, while for $s<s_{e}$, it describes a nonextremal black hole with Cauchy and event horizons, and no black hole for $s>s_{e}$. We find that the extremal value $s_e$ is also influenced by these parameters. The black hole shadow size decreases monotonically and the shape gets more distorted with an increasing $s$; in turn, shadows of rotating Kalb-Ramond black holes are smaller and more distorted than the corresponding Kerr black hole shadows. We investigate the effect of the Kalb-Ramond field on the rotating black hole spacetime geometry and analytically deduced corrections to the light deflection angle from the Kerr and Schwarzschild black hole values. The deflection angle for Sgr A* and the shadow caused by the supermassive black hole M87* are included and compared with analogous results of Kerr black holes. The inferred circularity deviation $ΔC\leq 0.10$ for the M87* black hole merely constrains the Kalb-Ramond field parameter, whereas shadow angular diameter $θ_d=42\pm 3\, μ$as, within the $1σ$ region, places bounds $Γ\leq 0.09205$ for $s=1$ and $Γ\leq 0.02178$ for $s=3$.
In recent, Kar.S et.al [ Phys Rev D 67,044005 (2003) ] have obtained static spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Kalb-Ramond field equations. We have shown that their solutions, indeed, represent Wormholes.
Purely time dependent solutions in four-dimensional Einstein-Cartan-Kalb-Ramond (ECKR) theory of gravity are shown not to be possible leading to a trivial vanishing of all Kalb-Ramond fields. This result seems to contradict previously results obtained by SenGupta et al. (Class. and Quantum Gravity 19(2002)677) where de Sitter spacetime solution is found as an example of opticaly active spacetime. It seems that only inhomogeneous KR fields are possible in four-dimensional torsioned spacetimes.
Static spherically symmetric solution in a background spacetime with torsion is derived explicitly. The torsion considered here is identified with the field strength of a second rank antisymmetric tensor field namely the Kalb-Ramond field and the proposed solution therefore has much significance in a string inspired gravitational field theory.
We construct a new solution subspace for the bosonic string theory toroidally compactified to 3 dimensions. This subspace corresponds to the complex harmonic scalar field coupled to the effective 3--dimensional gravity. We calculate a class of the asymptotically flat and free of the Dirac string peculiarity solutions which describes a Kalb--Ramond dipole source with the generally nontrivial dilaton charge.
In this paper, we study the localization of Kalb-Ramond (KR) tensorial gauge field on a non-flat de Sitter thick brane. The localization and resonance of KR gauge field are discussed for three kinds of couplings. For the first coupling there is no localized tensorial zero mode. For the other two couplings, the zero mode of KR field can be localized under certain condition. There are resonant KK modes on the thick brane for the third case. Furthermore, we mainly analyze the effects of three parameters on the localization and resonant mode for KR field.
We propose to develop the Kalb-Ramond theory in four-dimensional spacetime at the level of a classical field theory by following the same formal development steps as in Maxwell theory of standard electrodynamics. Solutions of Kalb-Ramond theory in the presence of static sources in various curved spacetimes are then analyzed. A question that we address here is that of a possible Kalb-Ramond polarization in curved spacetimes, like one can encounter a dielectric polarization in ordinary Maxwell electrodynamics in certain types of spacetimes.
This paper is devoted to compute the weak deflection angle for Kalb-Ramond traversable wormhole solution in plasma and dark matter mediums by using the method of Gibbons and Werner. To acquire our results, we evaluate Gaussian optical curvature by utilizing the Gauss-Bonnet theorem in the weak field limits. We also investigate the graphical influence of deflection angle $\tildeα$ with respect to the impact parameter $σ$ and minimal radius $r_0$ in plasma medium. Moreover, we derive the deflection angle by using different method known as Keeton and Petters method. We also examine that if we rem…
We have derived the Buchdahl's limit for a relativistic star in presence of the Kalb-Ramond field in four as well as in higher dimensions. It turns out that the Buchdahl's limit gets severely affected by the inclusion of the Kalb-Ramond field. In particular, the Kalb-Ramond field in four spacetime dimensions enables one to pack extra mass in any compact stellar structure of a given radius. On the other hand, a completely opposite picture emerges if the Kalb-Ramond field exists in higher dimensions, where the mass content of a compact star is smaller compared to that in general relativity. Impl…
In this work we investigate the quantum theory of the Kalb-Ramond fields propagating in $D-$dimensional de Sitter spacetimes using the dynamic invariant method developed by Lewis and Riesenfeld [J. Math. Phys. 10, 1458 (1969)] to obtain the solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The wave function is written in terms of a $c-$number quantity satisfying of the Milne-Pinney equation, whose solution can be expressed in terms of two independent solutions of the respective equation of motion. We obtain the exact solution for the quantum Kalb-Ramond field in the de Sitter background and…
We obtain a static spherically symmetric wormhole solution due to the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of a Kalb-Ramond field. The Kalb-Ramond VEV is a background tensor field which produces a local Lorentz symmetry breaking (LSB) of spacetime. Considering a non-minimal coupling between the Kalb-Ramond (VEV) and the Ricci tensor, we found an exact traversable wormhole solution sustained by matter sources with a negative isotropic pressure. The matter source satisfies the energy conditions at the throat for particular choices of the LSB parameter. Moreover, we employ the Gauss-Bonnet method to an…
Strong field gravitational lensing in the context of both higher spacetime dimensions and in presence of Kalb-Ramond field have been studied. After developing proper analytical tools to analyze the problem we consider gravitational lensing in three distinct black hole spacetimes --- (a) four dimensional black hole in presence of Kalb-Ramond field, (b) brane world black holes with Kalb-Ramond field and finally (c) black hole solution in $f(T)$ gravity. In all the three situations we have depicted the behavior of three observables: the asymptotic position approached by the relativistic images, t…
We show that when the antisymmetric Kalb-Ramond field is included in the Randall-Sundrum scenario, although the hierarchy problem can be solved, it requires an extreme fine tuning of the Kalb-Ramond field (about 1 part in $10^{62}$). We interpret this as the return of the problem in disguise. Further, we show that the Kalb-Ramond field induces a small negative cosmological constant on the visible brane.
This paper investigates a particular type of wormhole. The wormholes studied are the result of sewing together two Reissner-Nordstrom-type black hole metrics at their horizons. By requiring the stress-energy tensor associated with this geometry to be that of a Kalb-Ramond field, we obtain the mass and Kalb-Ramond charge of the wormholes in terms of the parameters describing the mass density, tension and pressure. We show by direct calculation of the action of these wormholes that they can be made quasi-stable against tunnelling to the vacuum via gravitational instantons by a suitable choice of…
We compare the massive Kalb-Ramond and Proca fields with a quartic self-interaction and show that the same strong coupling scale is present in both theories. In the Proca theory, the longitudinal mode enters the strongly coupled regime beyond this scale, while the two transverse modes propagate further and survive in the massless limit. In contrast, in case of the massive Kalb-Ramond field, the two transverse modes become strongly coupled beyond the Vainshtein scale, while the pseudo-scalar mode remains in the weak coupling regime and survives in the massless limit. This indicates a contradict…
In this work we generalize the MacDowell-Mansouri theory of gravity using strict 2-groups. To achieve this, we construct the categorical generalization of the ISO(4,1) group, which we call the de Sitter 2-group. We then proceed to generalize the MacDowell-Mansouri theory in two different ways. First, as a Yang-Mills-type theory, where the symmetry is explicitly broken to obtain an Einstein-Cartan theory coupled to Kalb-Ramond fields. And second, by using the categorical generalization of the BF theory, called 2-BF theory, which after the addition of some symmetry breaking and constraint terms …

Unified dark matter/energy models (quartessence) based upon the Chaplygin gas D-brane fail owing to the suppression of structure formation by the adiabatic speed of sound. Including string theory effects, in particular the Kalb-Ramond field which becomes massive via the brane, we show how nonadiabatic perturbations allow successful structure formation.
In this thesis, we aim to find the asymptotic symmetries of the Kalb-Ramond field in four dimensions at future null infinity. We start by reviewing the asymptotic symmetries of electrodynamics in four-dimensional Minkowski spacetime at future null infinity. We continue by investigating the asymptotic symmetries of the Kalb-Ramond field at future null infinity. We motivate the fall-off conditions by demanding the finiteness of energy, momentum, angular momentum and charge flux through future null infinity. We expand the gauge fields in ``radial" and Lorenz gauge and compute the generating charg…
We consider a 3-brane embedded in a warped 5-dimensional background with a dilaton and a Kalb-Ramond 2-form. We show that it is possible to find static solutions of the form of charged dS/AdS-like black hole with horizon which could have a negative mass parameter. The motion of the 3-brane in this bulk generates an effective 4-dimensional bouncing cosmology induced by the negative dark radiation term. This model avoids the instability that arises for bouncing brane in a Reissner-Nordstrøm-AdS bulk.
A spacetime with torsion produced by a Kalb-Ramond field coupled gravitationally to the Maxwell field, in accordance with a recent proposal by two of us (PM and SS), is argued to lead to an optical activity in synchrotron radiation from cosmologically distant radio sources. We suggest that this could qualitatively explain observational data from a large number of radio sources displaying such polarization asymmetry (after eliminating effects of Faraday rotation due to magnetized galactic plasma). Possible implications for heterotic string theory are also outlined.
This paper investigates a particular type of wormhole. The wormhole solutions studied are obtained by sewing together two static, spherically symmetric, charged black-hole metrics at their horizons. The charged wormholes are in a background Kalb-Ramond field, which is the source of the necessary tension in the gravitational field. The metric-tensor elements are studied by numerically solving Einstein's equations with stress-energy-tensor elements given by the combination of static electric and Kalb-Ramond fields. For a certain range of electric charge the tension is positive away from the worm…
We compute the energy spectra for massless Kalb-Ramond axions in four-dimensional anisotropic string cosmological models. We show that, when integrated over directions, the four-dimensional anisotropic model leads to infra-red divergent spectra similar to the one found in the isotropic case.
Effective gravitational field equations on a brane have been derived, when the bulk spacetime is endowed with the second rank antisymmetric Kalb-Ramond field. Since both the graviton and the Kalb-Ramond field are closed string excitations, they can propagate in the bulk. After deriving the effective gravitational field equations on the brane, we solve them for a static spherically symmetric solution. It turns out that the solution so obtained represents a black hole or naked singularity depending on the parameter space of the model. The stability of this model is also discussed. Cosmological s…
We study the gravitation effects on a static and spherically symmetric spacetime due to the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of a Kalb-Ramond field. The Kalb-Ramond VEV is a background tensor field which produces a local Lorentz symmetry breaking (LSB) of spacetime. Considering a non-minimal coupling between the Kalb-Ramond (VEV) and the Ricci tensor, we obtain an exact parameter-dependent power-law modified black hole. For a particular choice of the LSB parameter, the Lorentz violation produces a solution similar to the Reissner-Nordstrom, despite the absence of charge. The near-horizon geometr…
We compute the full spectrum and eigenstates of the Kalb-Ramond field in a warped non-compact Randall-Sundrum -type five-dimensional spacetime in which the ordinary four-dimensional braneworld is represented by a sine-Gordon soliton. This 3-brane solution is fully consistent with both the warped gravitational field and bulk dilaton configurations. In such a background we embed a bulk antisymmetric tensor field and obtain, after reduction, an infinite tower of normalizable Kaluza-Klein massive components along with a zero-mode. The low lying mass eigenstates of the Kalb-Ramond field may be rela…
Optical activity of electromagnetic waves in a string inspired Kalb-Ramond cosmological background is studied in presence of extra spacetime dimension. The Kalb-Ramond-electromagnetic coupling which originates from the gauge anomaly cancelling Chern-Simons term in a string inspired model, is explicitly calculated following Randall-Sundrum braneworld conjecture. It is shown that the Randall-Sundrum scenario leads to an enormous enhancement of the optical rotation of a plane polarized electromagnetic wave propagating on the visible brane.Absence of any experimental support in favour of such a la…
In this paper we shall study the inflationary aspects of a logarithmic corrected $R^2$ Starobinsky inflation model, in the presence of a Kalb-Ramond field in the gravitational action of $F(R)$ gravity. Our main interest is to pin down the effect of this rank two antisymmetric tensor field on the inflationary phenomenology of the $F(R)$ gravity theory at hand. The effects of the Kalb-Ramond field are expected to be strong during the inflationary era, however as the Universe expands, the energy density of the Kalb-Ramond field scales as $\sim a^{-6}$ so dark matter and radiation dominate over th…
We study the matter-coupled equations of motion for cosmological NS massless fields including all $α'$ corrections in an O$(d,d)$ duality invariant approach, with emphasis on the Kalb-Ramond two-form field $B_{(2)}$ and its source. Solutions for the vacuum and matter case are found and the corresponding Einstein frame cosmologies are discussed. We also show that the ansatz for $B_{(2)}$ required by the duality invariant framework implies that the two-form is non-isotropic.
Multimodal signatures of asymptotic (A)dS Kalb-Ramond black holes: Constraints through the shadow, weak deflection angle, and topological photon spheres
In the present paper, we explore the possible effects of a second rank antisymmetric tensor field, known as Kalb-Ramond (KR) field, on cosmological particle production as well as on quantum entanglement for a massive scalar field propagating in a four dimensional FRW spacetime evolves through a symmetric bounce. For this purpose, the scalar field is considered to be coupled with the KR field and also with the Ricci scalar via the term $\sim ξRΦ^2$ (with $ξ$ be the coupling). The presence of KR field spoils the conformal symmetry of a massless scalar field even for $ξ= 1/6$ in four dimensional …
