In this paper, we introduce geometric multiplicities, which are positive varieties with potential fibered over the Cartan subgroup $H$ of a reductive group $G$. They form a monoidal category and we construct a monoidal functor from this category to the representations of the Langlands dual group $G^\vee$ of $G$. Using this, we explicitly compute various multiplicities in $G^\vee$-modules in many ways. In particular, we recover the formulas for tensor product multiplicities of Berenstein- Zelevinsky and generalize them in several directions. In the case when our geometric multiplicity $X$ is a monoid, i.e., the corresponding $G^\vee$ module is an algebra, we expect that in many cases, the spectrum of this algebra is affine $G^\vee$-variety $X^\vee$, and thus the correspondence $X\mapsto X^\vee$ has a flavor of both the Langlands duality and mirror symmetry.
We study the categorical type A action on the Deligne category $\mathcal{D}_t=\underline{Rep}(GL_t)$ (here $t \in \mathbb{C}$) and its "abelian envelope" $\mathcal{V}_t$ constructed in arXiv:1511.07699. For $t \in \mathbb{Z}$, this action categorifies an action of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_{\mathbb{Z}}$ on the tensor product of the Fock space $\mathfrak{F}$ with $\mathfrak{F}_t^{\vee}$, its restricted dual "shifted" by $t$, as was suggested by I. Losev. In fact, this action makes the category $\mathcal{V}_t$ the tensor product (in the sense of Losev and Webster, arXiv:1303.1336) of catego…
We introduce a class of equivalences, which we call generalized semi-infinite Hecke equivalences, between certain categories of representations of graded associative algebras which appear in the setting of semi-infinite cohomology for associative algebras and categories of representations of related algebras of Hecke type which we call semi-infinite Hecke algebras. As an application we obtain an equivalence between a category of representations of a non-twisted affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak g}$ of level $-2h^\vee-k$, where $h^\vee$ is the dual Coxeter number of the underlying semisimp…
Let $G$ be a connected, linear, real reductive Lie group with compact centre. Let $K<G$ be compact. Under a condition on $K$, which holds in particular if $K$ is maximal compact, we give a geometric expression for the multiplicities of the $K$-types of any tempered representation (in fact, any standard representation) $π$ of $G$. This expression is in the spirit of Kirillov's orbit method and the quantisation commutes with reduction principle. It is based on the geometric realisation of $π|_K$ obtained in an earlier paper. This expression was obtained for the discrete series by Paradan, and fo…
We state a conjecture about the Weyl group action coming from Geometric Satake on zero-weight spaces in terms of equivariant multiplicities of Mirković-Vilonen cycles. We prove it for small coweights in type A. In this case, using work of Braverman, Gaitsgory and Vybornov, we show that the Mirković-Vilonen basis agrees with the Springer basis. We rephrase this in terms of equivariant multiplicities using work of Joseph and Hotta. We also have analogous results for Ginzburg's Lagrangian construction of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ representations.
Geometric Complexity Theory as initiated by Mulmuley and Sohoni in two papers (SIAM J Comput 2001, 2008) aims to separate algebraic complexity classes via representation theoretic multiplicities in coordinate rings of specific group varieties. The papers also conjecture that the vanishing behavior of these multiplicities would be sufficient to separate complexity classes (so-called occurrence obstructions). The existence of such strong occurrence obstructions has been recently disproven in 2016 in two successive papers, Ikenmeyer-Panova (Adv. Math.) and Bürgisser-Ikenmeyer-Panova (J. AMS). Thi…
We study a category of Whittaker modules over a complex semisimple Lie algebra by realizing it as a category of twisted D-modules on the associated flag variety using Beilinson-Bernstein localization. The main result of this paper is the development of a geometric algorithm for computing the composition multiplicities of standard Whittaker modules. This algorithm establishes that these multiplicities are determined by a collection of polynomials we refer to as Whittaker Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. In the case of trivial nilpotent character, this algorithm specializes to the usual algorithm fo…
Geometric symmetry induces symmetries of function spaces, and the latter yields a clue to global analysis via representation theory. In this note we summarize recent developments on the general theory about how geometric conditions affect representation theoretic properties on function spaces, with focus on multiplicities and spectrum.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective curve, $G$ a reductive group, and $Bun_G(X)$ the moduli of $G$-bundles on $X$. For each point of $X$, the Satake category acts by Hecke modifications on sheaves on $Bun_G(X)$. We show that, for sheaves with nilpotent singular support, the action is locally constant with respect to the point of $X$. This equips sheaves with nilpotent singular support with a module structure over perfect complexes on the Betti moduli $Loc_{G^\vee}(X)$ of dual group local systems. In particular, we establish the "automorphic to Galois" direction in the Betti Geometric Langlands corr…
The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we introduce a new method for evaluating the multiplicity of a given discrete series in the space of level $1$ automorphic forms of a split classical group $G$ over $\mathbb{Z}$, and provide numerical applications in absolute rank $\leq 8$. Second, we prove a classification result for the level one cuspidal algebraic automorphic representations of ${\rm GL}_n$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ ($n$ arbitrary) whose motivic weight is $\leq 24$. In both cases, a key ingredient is a classical method based on the Weil explicit formula, which allows to disprove the existenc…
In this paper, we show that the Dirac cohomology $H_{D}(L(λ))$ of a simple highest weight module $L(λ)$ in $\mathcal{O}^\mathfrak{p}$ can be parameterized by a specific set of weights: a subset $\mathcal{W}_I(λ)$ of the orbit of the Weyl group $W$ acting on $λ+ρ$. As an application, we show that any simple module in $\mathcal{O}^\mathfrak{p}$ is determined up to isomorphism by its Dirac cohomology. We describe four parameterizations of $H_D(L(λ))$ when $λ$ is regular. Two of these parameterizations are geometric in terms of a partial ordering on the dual of the Cartan subalgebra and a generali…
We study basic geometric properties of some group analogue of affine Springer fibers and compare with the classical Lie algebra affine Springer fibers. The main purpose is to formulate a conjecture that relates the number of irreducible components of such varieties for a reductive group $G$ to certain weight multiplicities defined by the Langlands dual group $\hat{G}$. We prove our conjecture in the case of unramified conjugacy class.
