In this study, the angular distribution of the 16O+10B elastic scattering was measured at Elab (16O)= 24 MeV. In addition to our experimental data, this nuclear system was theoretically analyzed at different energies to study the dynamics of scattering for this system. The data were analyzed within the framework of the double-folding optical potential model.
The total reaction cross section is related to the elastic scattering angular distribution by a basic quantum-mechanical relation. We present new experimental data for alpha-induced reaction cross sections on 64Zn which allow for the first time the experimental verification of this simple relation at low energies by comparison of the new experimental reaction data to the result obtained from 64Zn(alpha,alpha)64Zn elastic scattering.
Elastic scattering data for $^{141}$Pr($α$,$α$)$^{141}$Pr have been analyzed to derive a new energy-dependent local potential for the $^{141}$Pr-$α$ system. This potential is used successfully to predict the cross section of the $^{141}$Pr($α$,n)$^{144}$Pm reaction at low energies where new experimental data have become available very recently. Contrary to various global potentials, this new potential is able to reproduce simultaneously elastic scattering data around and above the Coulomb barrier and reaction data below the Coulomb barrier for the $^{141}$Pr-$α$ system. Reasons for the partial…
The fusion barrier distribution has provided a nice representation for the channel coupling effects on heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies around the Coulomb barrier. Here we discuss how one can extract the same representation using the so called sum-of-differences (SOD) method with quasi-elastic scattering cross sections. In contrast to the conventional quasi-elastic barrier distribution, the SOD barrier distribution has an advantage in that it can be applied both to non-symmetric and symmetric systems. It is also the case that the correspondence to the fusion barrier distribution is much …
Proton-${}^3$H elastic scattering and charge-exchange reaction ${}^3$H$(p,n){}^3$He in the energy regime above four-nucleon breakup threshold are described in the momentum-space transition operator framework. Fully converged results are obtained using realistic two-nucleon potentials and two-proton Coulomb force as dynamic input. Differential cross section, proton analyzing power, outgoing neutron polarization, and proton-to-neutron polarization transfer coefficients are calculated between 6 and 30 MeV proton beam energy. Good agreement with the experimental data is found for the differential …
The elastic scattering of the radioactive halo nucleus 6He on 27Al target was measured at four energies close to the Coulomb barrier using the RIBRAS (Radioactive Ion Beams in Brazil) facility. The Sao Paulo Potential(SPP) was used and its diffuseness and imaginary strength were adjusted to fit the elastic scattering angular distributions. Reaction cross-sections were extracted from the optical model fits. The reduced reaction cross-sections of 6He on 27Al are similar to those for stable, weakly bound projectiles as {6,7}Li, 9Be and larger than stable, tightly bound projectile as 16O on 27Al.
The angular distributions for elastic scattering and breakup of halo nuclei are analysed using a near-side/far-side decomposition within the framework of the dynamical eikonal approximation. This analysis is performed for 11Be impinging on Pb at 69AMeV. These distributions exhibit very similar features. In particular they are both near-side dominated, as expected from Coulomb-dominated reactions. The general shape of these distributions is sensitive mostly to the projectile-target interactions, but is also affected by the extension of the halo. This suggests that the link between elastic scatt…
Elastic $^{6}$He+$^4$He data measured at $E_{\rm c.m.}=11.6,$ 15.9, and 60.3 MeV have been analyzed within the coupled reaction channels (CRC) formalism, with the elastic-scattering and two-neutron ($2n$) transfer amplitudes coherently included. Contributions from the direct (one-step) and sequential (two-step) $2n$-transfers were treated explicitly based on a realistic assumption for the $2n$-transfer form factor. The oscillatory pattern observed in $^4$He($^6$He,$^6$He)$^4$He angular distribution at low energies was found to be due to an interference between the elastic scattering and $2n$-t…

The sensitivity--or rather insensitivity--of the elastic proton-nucleus reaction to the neutron radius of 208Pb is investigated using a non-relativistic impulse-approximation approach. The energy region (Tlab=500 MeV and Tlab=800 MeV) is selected so that the impulse approximation may be safely assumed. Therefore, only free nucleon-nucleon scattering data are used as input for the optical potential. Further, the optical potential includes proton and neutron ground-state densities that are generated from accurately-calibrated models. Even so, these models yield a wide range of values (from 0.13 …
The total reaction cross section $σ_{\rm{reac}}$ is a valuable measure for the prediction of $α$-induced reaction cross sections within the statistical model and for the comparison of scattering of tightly bound projectiles to weakly bound and exotic projectiles. Here we provide the total reaction cross sections $σ_{\rm{reac}}$ derived from our previously published angular distributions of $α$-elastic scattering on $^{89}$Y, $^{92}$Mo, $^{112,124}$Sn, and $^{144}$Sm at energies around the Coulomb barrier.
For backward elastic scattering of deuterons by ^3He, cross sections σand tensor analyzing power T_{20} are measured at E_d=140-270 MeV. The data are analyzed by the PWIA and by the general formula which includes virtual excitations of other channels, with the assumption of the proton transfer from ^3He to the deuteron. Using ^3He wave functions calculated by the Faddeev equation, the PWIA describes global features of the experimental data, while the virtual excitation effects are important for quantitative fits to the T_{20} data. Theoretical predictions on T_{20}, K_y^y (polarization transfe…
The unstable nucleus $^8$Be, with its two $α$-cluster configuration, is the doorway to the formation of heavier $α$-cluster nuclei. Most importantly, its the precursor of the production of $^{12}$C through the Hoyle state, a resonance state of three $α$ clusters, in the helium burning phase of a massive star. The nucleus exhibits a ground state band of rotational states established through $α-α$ scattering experiments. A subsequent precision particle-$γ$ coincidence measurement of the electromagnetic transition between the 4$^+\rightarrow$ 2$^+$ excited states also corroborated the evidence fo…
New experomental data on polarization and spin--correlation parameters in the (p,2p) reaction with nuclei are presented. The experiment was aimed to study a modification of the proton--proton scattering matrix.
The available data on the forward charge exchange of nucleons on the deuteron up to 2GeV per nucleon are reviewed. The value of the inclusive nd->pnn/np->pn cross section ratio is sensitive to the fraction of spin-independent neutron-proton backward scattering. The measurements of the polarisation transfer in d(\vec{n},\vec{p})nn or the deuteron analysing power in p(\vec{d},pp)n in high resolution experiments, where the final nn or pp pair emerge at low excitation energy, depend upon the longitudinal and transverse spin-spin np amplitudes. The relation between these types of experiments is dis…
Background: alpha-nucleus potentials play an essential role for the calculation of alpha-induced reaction cross sections at low energies in the statistical model... Purpose: The present work studies the total reaction cross section sigma_reac of alpha-induced reactions at low energies which can be determined from the elastic scattering angular distribution or from the sum over the cross sections of all open non-elastic channels. Method: Elastic and inelastic 64Zn(a,a)64Zn angular distributions were measured at two energies around the Coulomb barrier at 12.1 MeV and 16.1 MeV. Reaction cross sec…
We discuss two recent topics on heavy-ion quasi-elastic scattering at energies around the Coulomb barrier. The first topic is an application of quasi-elastic scattering at deep-subbarrier energies to extracting the surface diffuseness parameter of the nucleus-nucleus potential. The second topic is a coupled-channels analysis for the quasi-elastic barrier distribution for the $^{70}$Zn + $^{208}$Pb reaction. We show that the coupled-channels calculations which include the multi-phonon excitations in the colliding nuclei reproduce reasonably well the experimental excitation function for quasi-el…
Transfer reactions are an important tool in nuclear astrophysics. These reactions allow us to identify states in nuclei and to find the corresponding energies, to determine if these states can contribute to astrophysical nuclear reactions and ultimately to determine the strength of that contribution. In this paper, the basic details of how transfer reactions may be used in nuclear astrophysics are set out along with some common pitfalls to avoid.
Relativistic corrections to the reaction kinematic parameters were made for elastic scattering of \nuc{6}{Li}, \nuc{12}{C} and \nuc{40}{Ar} from \nuc{40}{Ca}, \nuc{90}{Zr}, and \nuc{208}{Pb} targets at incident energies between 20 and 100 MeV/nucleon. Results of optical model calculations show that the effects of such corrections are important in describing the angular distributions of elastic scattering cross sections for heavy ion scattering at incident energies as low as around 40 MeV/nucleon. The effects on the total reaction cross sections on the other hand, were found to be small within …
It is considered the problem of spin physics related with the difference of representation of the elastic interaction between the neutron and proton. In the first case the charge-exchange reaction $np\to pn$ under the angle $θ$ is supposed, in the second --- the simple elastic scattering of $np\to np$, when the neutron is going in opposite direction $π-θ$. The transition from one representation to another is provided by the Majorana operator. In the framework of impulse approximation it is twice calculated the quasi-elastic charge-exchange reaction of a neutron on a deuteron. In the frame of $…
New, high-precision measurements of the 3He(e,e'p) reaction using the A1 collaboration spectrometers at the Mainz microtron MAMI are presented. These were performed in parallel kinematics at energy transfers below the quasi-elastic peak, and at a central momentum transfer of 685 MeV/c. Cross sections and distorted momentum distributions were extracted and compared to theoretical predictions and existing data. The longitudinal and transverse behavior of the cross section was also studied. Sizable enhancements of the cross sections for missing momenta larger than 100 MeV/c as compared to Plane W…
The two-proton removal reaction from 28Mg projectiles has been studied at 93 MeV/u at the NSCL. First coincidence measurements of the heavy 26Ne projectile residues, the removed protons and other light charged particles enabled the relative cross sections from each of the three possible elastic and inelastic proton removal mechanisms to be determined. These more final-state-exclusive measurements are key for further interrogation of these reaction mechanisms and use of the reaction channel for quantitative spectroscopy of very neutron-rich nuclei. The relative and absolute yields of the three …
New experimental results for the elastic scattering of 6He on 64Zn at incident energies of 15.0 and 18.0 MeV and 4He at 17.5 MeV along with results already published at 10.0 and 13.6 MeV, are presented. Elastic and alpha experimental cross sections are compared with coupled-reaction-channel, continuum-discretized coupledchannel, and DWBA inclusive-breakup models. The large yield of alpha particles observed at all measured energies can be explained by considering a nonelastic breakup mechanism.
New, high-precision measurements of the 3He(e,e'p) reaction using the A1 collaboration spectrometers at the Mainz microtron MAMI are presented. These were performed in antiparallel kinematics at energy transfers below the quasi-elastic peak, and at a central momentum transfer of 685 MeV/c. Cross sections and distorted momentum distributions were extracted and compared to theoretical predictions and existing data. The longitudinal and transverse behavior of the cross section was also studied. Sizable differences in the cross-section behavior from theoretical predictions based on Plane Wave Impu…
Preliminary experimental data for nucleon transfer reactions of the 40Ca+58Ni and 40Ca+64Ni systems are analyzed with the coupled- channels approach. It is shown that a simple treatment for the transfer in the coupled-channels method cannot reproduce simultaneously the transfer probabilities and the sub-barrier enhancement of fusion cross sections.
The analysing power of the reaction ${\rm n}{\rm p} \to {\rm p}{\rm p} π^{-}$ for neutron energies between threshold and 570 MeV has been determined using a transversely polarised neutron beam at PSI. The reaction has been studied in a kinematically complete measurement using a time-of-flight spectrometer with large acceptance. Analysing powers have been determined as a function of the c.m. pion angle in different regions of the proton-proton invariant mass. They are compared to other data from the reactions ${\rm n}{\rm p} \to {\rm p}{\rm p} π^{-}$ and ${{\rm p}{\rm p} \to {\rm p}{\rm p} π^{0…
The elastic scattering cross section measured at energies $E\lesssim 10$ MeV/nucleon for some light heavy-ion systems having two identical cores like $^{16}$O+$^{12}$C exhibits an enhanced oscillatory pattern at the backward angles. Such a pattern is known to be due to the transfer of the valence nucleon or cluster between the two identical cores. In particular, the elastic $α$ transfer has been shown to originate directly from the core-exchange symmetry in the elastic $^{16}$O+$^{12}$C scattering. Given the strong transition strength of the $2^+_1$ state of $^{12}$C and its large overlap with…
The internal excitation of nuclei after multi-nucleon transfer is estimated by using the time-dependent mean-field theory. Transfer probabilities for each channel as well as the energy loss after re-separation are calculated. By combining these two informations, we show that the excitation energy distribution of the transfer fragments can be obtained separately for the different transfer channels. The method is applied to the reaction involving a $^{238}$U beam on a $^{12}$C target, which has recently been measured at GANIL. It is shown that the excitation energy calculated with the microscopi…
In this brief review we discuss the basic theoretical concepts used in the experimental studies of the most common cases of direct reactions such as (a) elastic scattering, (b) inelastic scattering, (c) Coulomb excitation, (d) transfer reactions and (e) breakup reactions.
In conventional nuclear experiments a beam of accelerated nuclei collides with a target nucleus that is surrounded by other nuclei in a molecule, in condensed matter, or in a plasma environment. It is shown that for low collision energies possible nuclear reactions (including deuterium fusion) are strongly boosted by the environment. The effect originates from a chain of preliminary three elastic collisions which transform the projectile-target experiment into one with colliding beams. Firstly, the projectile-target pair of nuclei undergo elastic scattering in which the projectile shares its e…
Differential cross sections of $^{2}$H(d, d)d elastic scattering and proton transfer $^{2}$H(d, $^{3}$He)n reactions at 160 MeV beam energy have been obtained. They have been normalized relative to the existing cross-section data for the $^{2}$H(d, d)d elastic scattering at 180 and 130 MeV, benefiting from the negligible energy dependence of this observable at certain range of the four momentum transfer. The experiment was performed at KVI in Groningen, the Netherlands using the BINA detector. The elastic scattering data are compared to theoretical predictions based on the lowest-order term in…
The extensive elastic $^{16}$O+$^{12}$C scattering data measured at low energies show consistently an oscillating enhancement of the elastic cross section at backward angles that is difficult to describe within the conventional optical model. Given the significant $α$ spectroscopic factors predicted for the dissociation $^{16}$O$\toα+^{12}$C by the shell model (SM) and $α$-cluster model calculations, the contribution of the $α$ transfer channels to the elastic $^{16}$O+$^{12}$C scattering should not be negligible, and is expected to account for the enhanced oscillation of the elastic cross sec…
The activation cross sections of (d,p), (d,2n), (d,3n), and (d,2p) reactions on 63,65Cu were measured in the energy range from 4 to 20 MeV using the stacked-foils technique. Then, following the available elastic-scattering data analysis that provided the optical potential for reaction cross sections calculations, an increased effort has been devoted to the breakup mechanism, the direct reaction stripping, and the pre-equilibrium and compound-nucleus cross section calculations, corrected for the breakup and stripping decrease of the total reaction cross section. The overall agreement between th…
The consequences for direct reactions of the dynamical non-locality generated by the excitation of the target and projectile are much less studied than the effects of non-locality arising from exchange processes. Here we are concerned with the dynamical non-locality due to projectile excitation in deuteron induced reactions. The consequences of this non-locality can be studied by the comparison of deuteron induced direct reactions calculated with alternative representations of the elastic channel wave functions: (i) the elastic channel wave functions from coupled channel (CC) calculations invo…
Complex transition density can be constructed by a nuclear structure model with a complex basis and/or complex coefficient. In general, the complex transition density is converted to the real one with phase factor. In this study, we apply the complex transition density directly to the microscopic reaction model. We compare with scattering cross sections calculated with the real and complex transition densities in the frameworks of the optical model, the distorted wave Born approximation, and the coupled-channel (CC) calculation, respectively. In addition, we investigate the dependence of the p…
The relative importance of neutron transfer and breakup process in reaction around Coulomb barrier energies have been studied for the $^{7}$Li+$^{124}$Sn system. Coupled channel calculations have been performed to understand the one neutron stripping and pickup cross sections along with the breakup in the $^{7}$Li+$^{124}$Sn system. The systematics of one and two neutron striping and pickup cross sections with $^7$Li projectile on several targets show an approximate universal behaviour that have been explained by a simple model. Complete reaction mechanism have been studied by comparing the re…
\item[Background] Multinucleon transfer reaction at low-energy collisions is considered to be a promising method for the production of new exotic nuclei, which are difficult to be produced by other methods. The theoretical studies are required to provide reliable predictions for the experiments and promote the understanding of the microscopic mechanism in multinucleon transfer reactions. \item[Purpose] We provide a predictive approach for production cross sections, and testify how and to what extent the microscopic approach works well in multinucleon transfer reaction. \item[Methods] We employ…
In the search for missing baryonic resonances, many analyses include data from a variety of pion- and photon-induced reactions. For elastic $πN$ scattering, however, usually the partial waves of the SAID or other groups are fitted, instead of data. We provide the partial-wave covariance matrices needed to perform correlated $χ^2$ fits, in which the obtained $χ^2$ equals the actual $χ^2$ up non-linear and normalization corrections. For any analysis relying on partial waves extracted from elastic pion scattering, this is a prerequisite to assess the significance of resonance signals and to assig…
Probabilities for two-neutron transfer reactions, $P_{\rm 2n}$, are often discussed in comparison with the square of the corresponding probabilities for one-neutron transfer process, $(P_{\rm 1n})^2$, implicitly assuming that $(P_{\rm 1n})^2$ provides the probability of two-neutron transfer reactions in the absence of the pairing correlation. We use a schematic coupled-channels model, in which the transfers are treated as effective inelastic channels, and demonstrate that this model leads to $P_{\rm 2n}=(P_{\rm 1n})^2/4$, rather than $P_{\rm 2n}=(P_{\rm 1n})^2$, in the pure sequential limit. W…
A previously derived semi-microscopic analysis based on the Double Folding Model, for alpha-particle elastic scattering on A~100 nuclei at energies below 32 MeV, is extended to medium mass A ~ 50-120 nuclei and energies from ~13 to 50 MeV. The energy-dependent phenomenological imaginary part for this semi-microscopic optical model potential was obtained including the dispersive correction to the microscopic real potential, and used within a concurrent phenomenological analysis of the same data basis. A regional parameter set for low-energy alpha-particles entirely based on elastic-scattering d…
We report the results from a systematic study of the quasi-elastic (e,e'p) reaction on $^{12}$C, $^{56}$Fe and $^{197}$Au performed at Jefferson Lab. We have measured nuclear transparency and extracted spectral functions (corrected for radiation) over a Q$^2$ range of 0.64 - 3.25 (GeV/c)$^2$ for all three nuclei. In addition we have extracted separated longitudinal and transverse spectral functions at Q$^2$ of 0.64 and 1.8 (GeV/c)$^2$ for these three nuclei (except for $^{197}$Au at the higher Q$^2$). The spectral functions are compared to a number of theoretical calculations. The measured spe…
The elastic scattering cross sections for the reactions $^{110,116}$Cd($α,α$)$^{110,116}$Cd at energies above and below the Coulomb barrier are presented to provide a sensitive test for the alpha-nucleus optical potential parameter sets. Additional constraints for the optical potential are taken from the analysis of elastic scattering excitation functions at backward angles which are available in literature. Moreover, the variation of the elastic alpha scattering cross sections along the $Z = 48$ isotopic and $N = 62$ isotonic chain is investigated by the study of the ratios of the of $^{106,1…
The polarization of the secondary protons in the (p,2p) reaction with the S - shell protons of nuclei 4He, 6Li, 12C, 28Si, 40Ca was measured at 1 GeV unpolarized proton beam. The spin correlation parameters Cij for the 4He and 12C targets also were for the first time obtained as well. The polarization measurements were performed by means of a two - arm magnetic spectrometer, each arm of which was equipped with the multiwire proportional chamber polarimeter. This experiment was aimed to study a modification of the proton - proton scattering matrix in the nuclear medium.
We study the target normal spin asymmetry for the reaction $ep \to ep$ at electron energy up to few GeV in the laboratory frame. The asymmetry is proportional to the imaginary part of the reaction scattering amplitude. To estimate the imaginary part of the amplitude we use the unitarity relation and saturate the intermediate hadron states by the proton and resonances from the first, second and third resonance regions. The resonance electromagnetic transition amplitudes, needed to evaluate the asymmetry, are taken from experiment.
A study of interaction of neutron rich oxygen isotopes $^{17,18}$O with light targets has been undertaken in order to determine the optical potentials needed for the transfer reaction $^{13}$C($^{17}$O,$^{18}$O)$^{12}$C. Optical potentials in both incoming and outgoing channels have been determined in a single experiment. This transfer reaction was used to infer the direct capture rate to the $^{17}$F(p,$γ$)$^{18}$Ne which is essential to estimate the production of $^{18}$F at stellar energies in ONe novae. The success of the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) as indirect method for as…
The elastic scattering $^{16}$O$+^{12}$C angular distributions at $^{16}$O bombarding energies of 100.0, 115.9 and 124.0 MeV and their optical model description including the $α$-particle exchange contribution calculated in the Coupled Reaction Channel approach are presented. The angular distributions show not only the usual diffraction pattern but also, at larger angles, intermediate structure of refractive origin on which finer oscillations are superimposed. The large angle features can be consistently described including explicitly the elastic $α$-transfer process and using a refractive opt…
We evaluate the two-photon exchange (TPE) correction to the muon-proton elastic scattering at small momentum transfer. Besides the elastic (nucleon) intermediate state contribution, which is calculated exactly, we account for the inelastic intermediate states by expressing the TPE process approximately through the forward doubly virtual Compton scattering. The input in our evaluation is given by the unpolarized proton structure functions and by one subtraction function. For the latter, we provide an explicit evaluation based on a Regge fit of high-energy proton structure function data. It is f…
The 9Be(28Mg,27Na) one-proton removal reaction with a large proton separation energy of Sp(28Mg)=16.79 MeV is studied at intermediate beam energy. Coincidences of the bound 27Na residues with protons and other light charged particles are measured. These data are analyzed to determine the percentage contributions to the proton removal cross section from the elastic and inelastic nucleon removal mechanisms. These deduced contributions are compared with the eikonal reaction model predictions and with the previously measured data for reactions involving the re- moval of more weakly-bound protons f…
In this paper, the production and spectroscopic investigation of Mercury and Radon isotopes was performed using complete fusion reactions neutron evaporation residues and multi-nucleon transfer reaction at the mass-separator MASHA. The MASHA setup is installed on the beam line of Cyclotron U-400M at Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions (FLNR) in Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, Russia. The isotopes produced in complete fusion reactions 148Sm(40Ar, xn)188-xHg, 166Er(40Ar, xn)206-xRn and multi-nucleon transfer reaction 48Ca + 242Pu were passed through the magnetooptical syst…
Alpha elastic scattering angular distributions of the 106Cd(alpha,alpha)106Cd reaction were measured at three energies around the Coulomb barrier to provide a sensitive test for the alpha + nucleus optical potential parameter sets. Furthermore, the new high precision angular distributions, together with the data available from the literature were used to study the energy dependence of the locally optimized α+nucleus optical potential in a wide energy region ranging from E_Lab = 27.0 MeV down to 16.1 MeV. The potentials under study are a basic prerequisite for the prediction of alpha-induced re…
The transfer of nucleons in hot-fusion reactions occurs within 0.17 yoctosecond, in a new state of nuclear matter. We suggest that the same state should show itself in an early stage of the phenomena occurring in nucleus-nucleus collisions realized at relativistic energies.
Background: Type I x-ray bursts are the most frequent thermonuclear explosions in the galaxy, resulting from thermonuclear runaway on the surface of an accreting neutron star. The $^{30}$S($α$,p) reaction plays a critical role in burst models, yet insufficient experimental information is available to calculate a reliable, precise rate for this reaction. Purpose: Our measurement was conducted to search for states in $^{34}$Ar and determine their quantum properties. In particular, natural-parity states with large $α$-decay partial widths should dominate the stellar reaction rate. Method: We perf…
High precision measurements of the proton elastic form factor ratio have been made at four-momentum transfers, Q^2, between 0.2 and 0.5 GeV^2. The new data, while consistent with previous results, clearly show a ratio less than unity and significant differences from the central values of several recent phenomenological fits. By combining the new form-factor ratio data with an existing cross-section measurement, one finds that in this Q^2 range the deviation from unity is primarily due to GEp being smaller than the dipole parameterization.
Potential applications of neutrino detection to nuclear security have been discussed since the 1970s. Recent years have seen great progress in detector technologies based on inverse beta decay, with the demonstration of ton-scale surface-level detectors capable of high quality neutrino spectrum measurements. At the same time coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering has been experimentally confirmed in 2017 with neutrinos from stopped pion decay and there is a number of experiments aimed at seeing this reaction with reactor neutrinos. The large cross section and threshold-less nature of thi…
The collision of the doubly-magic nuclei $^{16}$O+$^{208}$Pb is a benchmark in nuclear reaction studies. Our new measurements of back-scattered projectile-like fragments at sub-barrier energies show show that transfer of 2 protons ($2p$) is much more probable than $α$-particle transfer. $2p$ transfer probabilities are strongly enhanced compared to expectations for the sequential transfer of two uncorrelated protons; at energies around the fusion barrier absolute probabilities for two proton transfer are similar to those for one proton transfer. This strong enhancement indicates strong $2p$ pai…
The $γ$ process in supernova explosions is thought to explain the origin of proton-rich isotopes between Se and Hg, the so-called $p$ nuclei. The majority of the reaction rates for $γ$ process reaction network studies has to be predicted in Hauser-Feshbach statistical model calculations using global optical potential parameterizations. While the nucleon+nucleus optical potential is fairly known, for the $α$+nucleus optical potential several different parameterizations exist and large deviations are found between the predictions calculated using different parameter sets. By the measurement of e…
The $^{18}$Ne($α$,$p$)$^{21}$Na reaction provides a pathway for breakout from the hot CNO cycles to the $rp$-process in type I x-ray bursts. To better determine this astrophysical reaction rate, the resonance parameters of the compound nucleus $^{22}$Mg have been investigated by measuring the resonant elastic scattering of $^{21}$Na+$p$. An 89 MeV $^{21}$Na radioactive ion beam was produced at the CNS Radioactive Ion Beam Separator and bombarded an 8.8 mg/cm$^2$ thick polyethylene target. The recoiled protons were measured at scattering angles of $θ_{c.m.}$$\approx 175 {^\circ}$ and 152${^\cir…
The luminosity for a WASA-at-COSY experiment involving the pd reaction at 2.14 GeV proton-beam energy is determined by the forward pd elastic scattering, which yields an average beam-on-target value of [5.2\pm0.3(stat)\pm0.3(syst)]*10^{30} s^{-1}cm^{-2}. In addition, the forward pd elastic-scattering angular distribution is obtained with four-momentum transfer squared -t between 0.16 (GeV/c)^{2} and 0.78 (GeV/c)^{2} at this beam energy, which is compared with other experimental data and the pd double scattering model.
