We prove that generically in $\text{Diff}^{1}_{m}(M)$, if an expanding $f$-invariant foliation $W$ of dimension $u$ is minimal and there is a periodic point of unstable index $u$, the foliation is stably minimal. By this we mean there is a $C^{1}$-neighborhood $\mathcal{U}$ of $f$ such that for all $C^{2}$-diffeomorphisms $g\in \mathcal{U}$, the $g$-invariant analytic continuation of $W$ is minimal. In particular, all such $g$ are topologically mixing. Moreover, all such $g$ have a hyperbolic ergodic component of the volume measure $m$ which is essentially dense. This component is, in fact, Bernoulli. We provide new examples of stably minimal diffeomorphisms which are not partially hyperbolic.
It was shown that in robustly transitive, partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms on three dimensional closed manifolds, the strong stable or unstable foliation is minimal. In this article, we prove ``almost all'' leaves of both stable and unstable foliations are dense in the whole manifold.
Let $f$ be a $C^2$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms of ${\mathbb T}^3$ (not necessarily volume preserving or transitive) isotopic to a linear Anosov diffeomorphism $A$ with eigenvalues $$λ_{s}<1<λ_{c}<λ_{u}.$$ Under the assumption that the set $$\{x: \,\mid\log \det(Tf\mid_{E^{cu}(x)})\mid \leq \log λ_{u} \}$$ has zero volume inside any unstable leaf of $f$ where $E^{cu} = E^c\oplus E^u$ is the center unstable bundle, we prove that the stable foliation of $f$ is $C^1$ robustly minimal, i.e., the stable foliation of any diffeomorphism $C^1$ sufficiently close to $f$ is minimal. In particula…
Given a uniform foliation by Gromov hyperbolic leaves on a $3$-manifold, we show that the action of the fundamental group on the universal circle is minimal and transitive on pairs of different points. We also prove two other results: we prove that general uniform Reebless foliations are $\mathbb{R}$-covered and we give a new description of the universal circle of $\mathbb{R}$-covered foliations with Gromov hyperbolic leaves in terms of the JSJ decomposition of $M$.
In 3-dimensional manifolds, we prove that generically in$Diff^1_m(M)$, the existence of a minimal expanding invariant foliation implies stable Bernoulliness.
We prove that every expanding minimal semigroup action of $C^1$ diffeomorphisms of a compact manifold (resp. $C^{1+α}$ conformal) is robustly minimal (resp. ergodic with respect to Lebesgue measure). We also show how, locally, a blending region yields the robustness of the minimality and implies ergodicity.
We prove that at least one of the two invariant laminations of a strongly partially hyperbolic attractor with one-dimensional center bundle is minimal. This result extends those in [7] about minimal foliations for robustly transitive diffeomorphisms.
This article is a first step towards the understanding of the dynamics of the horocycle flow on foliated manifolds by hyperbolic surfaces. This is motivated by a question formulated by M. Martinez and A. Verjovsky on the minimality of this flow assuming that the natural affine foliation is minimal too. We have tried to offer a simple presentation, which allows us to update and shed light on the classical theorem proved by G. A. Hedlund in 1936 on the minimality of the horocycle flow on compact hyperbolic surfaces. Firstly, we extend this result to the product of PSL(2,R) and a Lie group G, whi…
The (measure-theoretical) entropy of a diffeomorphism along an expanding invariant foliation is the rate of complexity generated by the diffeomorphism along the leaves of the foliation. We prove that this number varies upper semi-continuously with the diffeomorphism ($\C^1$ topology), the invariant measure (weak* topology) and the foliation itself in a suitable sense. This has several important consequences. For one thing, it implies that the set of Gibbs $u$-states of $\C^{1+}$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms is an upper semi-continuous function of the map in the $\C^1$ topology. Another…
A classic result due to Furstenberg is the strict ergodicity of the horocycle flow for a compact hyperbolic surface. Strict ergodicity is unique ergodicity with respect to a measure of full support, and therefore implies minimality. The horocycle flow has been previously studied on minimal foliations by hyperbolic surfaces on closed manifolds, where it is known not to be minimal in general. In this paper, we prove that for the special case of Riemannian foliations, strict ergodicity of the horocycle flow still holds. This in particular proves that this flow is minimal, which establishes a conj…
We show that the metric entropy of a $C^1$ diffeomorphism with a dominated splitting and the dominating bundle uniformly expanding is bounded from above by the integrated volume growth of the dominating (expanding) bundle plus the maximal Lyapunov exponent from the dominated bundle multiplied by its dimension. We also discuss different types of volume growth that can be associated with an expanding foliation and relationships between them, specially when there exists a closed form non-degenerate on the foliation. Some consequences for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms are presented.
In this article, we develop a geometric framework to study the notion of semi-minimality for the generic type of a smooth autonomous differential equation $(X,v)$, based on the study of rational factors of $(X,v)$ and of algebraic foliations on $X$, invariant under the Lie-derivative of the vector field $v$. We then illustrate the effectiveness of these methods by showing that certain autonomous algebraic differential equation of order three defined over the field of real numbers --- more precisely, those associated to mixing, compact, Anosov flows of dimension three --- are generically disint…
Given any smooth Anosov map we construct a Banach space on which the associated transfer operator is quasi-compact. The peculiarity of such a space is that in the case of expanding maps it reduces exactly to the usual space of functions of bounded variation which has proven particularly successful in studying the statistical properties of piecewise expanding maps. Our approach is based on a new method of studying the absolute continuity of foliations which provides new information that could prove useful in treating hyperbolic systems with singularities.
In this work we lead with expanding maps of the circle and Anosov diffeomorphisms on $\mathbb{T}^d, d \geq 2.$ We prove that, for these maps, \textit{constant periodic data} imply \textit{same periodic data of these maps and their linearizations}, so in particular we have smooth conjugacy. For expanding maps of the circle and Anosov diffeomorphism on $\mathbb{T}^d, d= 2, 3,$ we have global rigidity. In higher dimensions, $d \geq 4,$ we can establish a result of local rigidity, in several cases. The main tools of this work are celebrated results of rigidity involving same periodic data with lin…
We consider a class of piecewise hyperbolic maps from the unit square to itself preserving a contracting foliation and inducing a piecewise expanding quotient map, with infinite derivative (like the first return maps of Lorenz like flows). We show how the physical measure of those systems can be rigorously approximated with an explicitly given bound on the error, with respect to the Wasserstein distance. We apply this to the rigorous computation of the dimension of the measure. We present a rigorous implementation of the algorithms using interval arithmetics, and the result of the computation …
In this paper we study systems of $N$ uniformly expanding coupled maps when $N$ is finite but large. We introduce self-consistent transfer operators that approximate the evolution of measures under the dynamics, and quantify this approximation explicitly with respect to $N$. Using this result, we prove that uniformly expanding coupled maps satisfy propagation of chaos when $N\rightarrow \infty$, and characterize the absolutely continuous invariant measures for the finite dimensional system. The main working assumption is that the expansion is not too small and the strength of the interactions …
