In view of the recent measurement of the $F_L^{D^*}$ magnitude in the $\bar{B} \to D^{*} \barν_ττ$ reaction we evaluate this magnitude within the standard model and for a family of models with the $γ^μ-αγ^μγ_5$ current structure for the quarks for different values of $α$. At the same time we evaluate also the transverse contributions, $M=-1$, $M=+1$, and find that the difference between the $M=-1$ and $M=+1$ contributions is far more sensitive to changes in $α$ than the longitudinal component.
We present an antenna-shower formalism that includes helicity dependence for massless partons. The formalism applies to both traditional (global) showers and to sector-based variants. We combine the shower with VINCIA's multiplicative approach to matrix-element matching, generalized to operate on each helicity configuration separately. The result is a substantial gain in computational speed for high parton multiplicities. We present an implementation of both sector and global showers, with min and max variations, and helicity-dependent tree-level matching applied for vector bosons or Higgs dec…
We present the joint helicity amplitudes for $J/ψ\to Λ\barΛ$, $Λ(\barΛ)$ decays to different final states in the helicity frame. Two observables to search for $CP$ violation in $J/ψ\toΛ\barΛ$ can be expressed with the information of helicity angles of baryon and antibaryon. Four decay parameters of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$, namely, $α_-,α_+,α_0$ and $\barα_0$, can be obtained with the joint helicity amplitude equations by the likelihood fit method. With the data sample of $10^{10}$ $J/ψ$ decays accumulated by BESIII, the precision of the measurements is estimated to be about $10^{-3}$.
The unexpectedly large transverse polarization measured in the B-to-phi K* decay poses the question whether it is accounted for as a strong interaction effect or possibly points to a hidden nonstandard weak interaction. We extend here the perturbative argument to the helicity structure of the two-body baryonic decay and discuss qualitatively on how the baryonic B decay modes might help us in understanding the issue raised by the B-to-VV decays. We find among others that the helicity +1/2 amplitude dominates in the leading order in the B (b-bar q) decay and that the dominant amplitude is sensit…
We study the helicity distributions of light flavor quark-antiquark ($q \bar{q}$) pairs in the nucleon sea. The valence quarks are handled by adopting the light-cone SU(6) quark-spectator-diquark model and the sea $q \bar{q}$ pairs are treated from statistical consideration by introducing the helicity suppression factors $l_q(x)$ and $\bar l_q(x)$ to parametrize the helicity distributions of q-flavor sea quark and antiquark respectively, while $Δl_q(x)=l_q(x)-\bar l_q(x)$ represents a combined effect of helicity contribution due to sea $q \bar{q}$ pairs. From fitting the nucleon polarization a…
Antiproton proton annihilation reactions allow unique access to the moduli and phases of nucleon electromagnetic form factors in the time like region. We present the helicity amplitudes for the unequal mass single photon reaction $p \bar{p}\to l^+ l^-$ in the s channel including the lepton mass. The relative signs of these amplitudes are determined using simple invariance properties. Helicity amplitudes for the annihilation reaction $p \bar{p} \to N \bar{N}$ are also given, where $N$ is any spinor particle with structure. Crossing relations between the $e p \to e p$ scattering and the $p \bar{…
We give a general parameterization of the Lambda_b --> Lambda(1520) gamma decay amplitude, applicable to any strange isosinglet spin-3/2 baryon, and calculate the branching fraction and helicity amplitudes. Large-energy form factor relations are worked out, and it is shown that the helicity-3/2 amplitudes vanish at lowest order in soft-collinear effective theory (SCET). The suppression can be tested experimentally at the LHC and elsewhere, thus providing a benchmark for SCET. We apply the results to assess the experimental reach for a possible wrong-helicity b --> s gamma dipole coupling in La…
Motivated by the recent hints of lepton flavor universality violation observed in semileptonic $B$ decays, we analyze how to test flavor and helicity structures of the corresponding amplitudes in view of future data. We show that the general assumption that such non-standard effects are controlled by a $U(2)_q \times U(2)_\ell$ flavor symmetry, minimally broken as in the Standard Model Yukawa sector, leads to stringent predictions on leptonic and semileptonic $B$ decays. Future measurements of $R_{D^{(*)}}$, $R_{K^{(*)}}$, ${\mathcal B}(\bar B_{c,u}\to \ell \bar ν)$, ${\mathcal B}(\bar B \to π…
Knowledge of two-loop QCD amplitudes for processes $q\bar q \to V_1 V_2 \to (l_1\bar l'_1)(l_2 \bar l'_2)$ is important for improving the theoretical description of four-lepton production in hadron collisions. In this paper we compute these helicity amplitudes for all intermediate vector bosons, $V_1 V_2 = γ^*γ^*, WW, ZZ, WZ, W γ^*$, including off-shell effects and decays to leptons.
We derive the two-loop QCD helicity amplitudes for the processes $l q \to l qg$ ($l \bar q \to l \bar q g$) and $l g \to l q\bar q$, which are the partonic reactions yielding $(2+1)$-jet final states in deep inelastic lepton nucleon scattering. The amplitudes are obtained by analytic continuation of the known helicity amplitudes for $e^+e^- \to q\bar q g$. We separate the infrared divergent and finite parts of the amplitudes using Catani's infrared factorization formula. The analytic results for the finite parts of the amplitudes are expressed in terms of one- and two-dimensional harmonic poly…
We investigate the long distance contribution via charmed hadron loops in the processes $η_c$, $χ_{c0}$ and $h_c$ decaying to baryon anti-baryon pairs, which are supposed to be highly suppressed by the helicity selection rule as a consequence of the perturbative QCD framework. With an effective Lagrangian method, our estimation result indicates that such hadron loops play an important role in these hadronic decays. It is a further test of the evading mechanism for the helicity selection rule in charmonium baryon-antibaryon decays.
We perform a helicity amplitude analysis for the processes of $e^+e^-$$\rightarrow$$J/ψ,ψ(2S)\rightarrowΞ(1530)\barΞ(1530)\rightarrowππΞ\barΞ\rightarrowΛ\bar\Lambda4π\rightarrow p\bar{p}6π$. The joint angular distribution for these processes are obtained, which allows a proper estimation of the detection efficiency using helicity amplitude information. In addition, the sensitivities of measurement of hyperon asymmetry decay parameters for these processes are discussed.
In this paper, we show how to calculate analytically the one-loop helicity amplitudes for the process $q\bar{q} rightarrow t\bar{t}$ induced by KK gluon, using the spinor-helicity formalism. A minimal set of Feynman rules which are uniquely fixed by gauge invariance and the color representation of the KK gluon are derived and used in the calculation. Our results can be applied to a variety of models containing a massive color octet vector boson.
We compute the two-loop massless QCD corrections to the helicity amplitudes for the production of two massive vector bosons in quark-antiquark annihilation, allowing for an arbitrary virtuality of the vector bosons: $q \bar q' \to V_1V_2$. Combining with the leptonic decay currents, we obtain the full two-loop QCD description of the corresponding electroweak four-lepton production processes. The calculation is performed by projecting the two-loop diagrams onto an appropriate basis of Lorentz structures. All two-loop Feynman integrals are reduced to a basis of master integrals, which are then c…
The self-couplings of the electroweak gauge bosons are probed at hadron colliders through the production of a massive gauge boson and a photon. To extend the theoretical description of this type of final states towards next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD, we derive the two-loop QCD corrections to the helicity amplitudes describing the production of a massive gauge boson in association with a real photon. Our results are obtained by applying projectors to the general parton-level tensor structure. The leptonic decay of the vector boson is included, thus allowing for a fully exclusive de…
The two body charmless decays of $B_s$ meson to light vector mesons are analyzed within the framework of QCD factorization. This approach implies that the nonfactorizable corrections to different helicity amplitudes are not the same. The effective parameters $a_i^h$ for helicity $h=0,+,-$ states receive different nonfactorizable contributions and hence are helicity dependent, contrary to naive factorization approach where $a_i^h$ are universal and polarization independent. The branching ratios for $\bar{B}_s\to VV$ decays are calculated and we find that branching ratios of some channels are of…
We present a general method for calculating inclusive cross sections for the production of heavy quarkonium states with definite polarization within the NRQCD factorization approach. Cross sections for polarized production can involve additional matrix elements that do not contribute to cross sections for unpolarized production. They can also include interference terms between parton processes that produce $Q \bar Q$ pairs with different total angular momentum. The interference terms cancel upon summing over polarizations. Our method can be generalized to $N$ dimensions and is therefore compat…
We present the two-loop helicity amplitudes for the scattering of massless quarks in QCD. We use projector techniques to compute the coefficients of the general four-quark amplitude at up to two-loops in conventional dimensional regularisation and use these coefficients to derive the helicity amplitudes in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme. The structure of the infrared divergences agrees with that predicted by Catani while expressions for the finite remainders for $q \bar q \to Q\bar Q$ and the processes related by crossing symmetry are given in terms of logarithms and polylogarithms that are real …
We generalise the Jacob-Wick helicity formalism, which applies to sequential decays, to effective field theories of rare decays of the type $B \to K_{J_K}(\to K π) \bar{\ell}_1 \ell_2$. This is achieved by reinterpreting local interaction vertices $\bar b Γ'_{μ_1 ..μ_n} s \bar \ell Γ^{μ_1 ..μ_n} \ell$ as a coherent sum of $1 \to 2$ processes mediated by particles whose spin ranges between zero and $n$. We illustrate the framework by deriving the full angular distributions for $B \to K\bar{\ell}_1 \ell_2$ and $B \to K^*(\to K π) \bar{\ell}_1 \ell_2$ for the complete dimension-six effective Hami…
We have derived the tensor amplitudes for partial wave analysis of $ψ\toΔ\barΔ$, $Δ\to p π$ within the helicity frame, as well as the amplitudes for the other decay sequences with same final states. These formulae are practical for the experiments measuring $ψ$ decaying into $p \bar{p}π^+ π^-$ final states, such as BESIII with its recently collected huge $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ data samples.
A study of the order $α_s^2$ corrections to the Drell Yan (non-singlet) cross section for incoming states of arbitrary longitudinal helicities is presented. The study is performed in the case of the transverse momentum distributions, $(q_T)$, of the lepton pair and extends the calculation of Ellis Martinelli and Petronzio (EMP) to the polarized case. We use the $\bar{MS}$ scheme and the t'Hooft-Veltman regularization for the helicity projectors. From our results one can obtain the bulk of the totally inclusive NNLO cross section for the production of a Drell Yan pair in the non-singlet sector …
An helicity formalism for perturbative calculations is presented. It is based on the formal insertion in spinor lines of a complete set of states built up with unphysical spinors. It is particularly convenient when massive spinors are present. Its application to $e^+\,e^-\,\rightarrow b\,\bar b\,W^+W^-$ is briefly discussed.
A detailed analysis of $Z^{'0}Z^{'0}$, $K^{+}K^{-}$ and $K^{0}\bar{K}^{0}$ pair production in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions is presented by using helicity amplitudes. The trilinear bosons couplings in the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ models without exotic electric charges are also calculated. We carry out the mentioned analysis for two models, one of them is a one family model which is an $E_6$ subgroup \cite{b1} and the other one is a three family model with right handed neutrinos\cite{b2,b3}. These models do not contain exotic electric charges. For them, we give explicit formulae a…
We derive the separate helicity amplitudes involving the partial wave analysis in the process of pseudo-scalar meson photon productions with $J^P=3/2^+$, which is independent on model. According to parity, the general amplitude in the case of $J^P=1/2^-$ is given out. We prove this general amplitude is corresponding to the situation of $λ=-1$ as adopting the circular polarization. Finally, the formulas of scattering amplitudes involving the photon-meson production with $J^P=3/2^+$ are obtained from the chiral quark model.
We compute the part of the two-loop virtual amplitude for the process $gg \to V_1 V_2 \to (l_1 \bar l'_{1}) (l_2 \bar l'_2)$, where $V_{1,2}$ are arbitrary electroweak gauge bosons, that receives contributions from loops of massless quarks. Invariant masses of electroweak bosons are allowed to be different from each other. Our result provides an important ingredient for improving the description of gluon fusion contribution to the production of four-lepton final states at the LHC.
Recently we considered the electromagnetic decays of the orbitally-excited SU(6) 70-plet baryons in large-N_c QCD, fitting to the helicity amplitudes measured in photoproduction experiments. Using the results of this analysis, we predict the helicity amplitudes for the decays N^* \to Δγand Δ^* \to Δγ. These decays can be studied at a number of new experimental facilities, and thus provide another nontrivial test of the lowest order large-N_c predictions.
This paper is a continuation of previous work about the effects of a phenomenological flavour dependent force in a relativistically covariant constituent quark model based on the Salpeter equation on the structure of light-flavoured baryon resonances. Here the longitudinal and transverse helicity amplitudes as studied experimentally in the electro-excitation of nucleon- and $Δ$ resonances are calculated. In particular the amplitudes for the excitation of three and four star resonances as calculated in a previous model $\mathcal A$ are compared to those of the novel model $\mathcal C$ as well a…
We present cross sections for the reaction $μ\barμ\to Hγ$ over a range of $μ\barμ$ collider energies. The amplitudes for this process receive tree level contributions and one-loop contributions, which are of comparable magnitude. The tree level amplitudes are dominated by helicity non-flip terms and the one-loop amplitudes are dominated by helicity flip terms. As a consequence, the interference terms between the tree level and one-loop contributions are negligible. For a 500 GeV $μ\barμ$ collider, the cross section for $Hγ$ associated production approaches 0.1 fb.
We develop an analytical technique to evaluate the magnetic helicity in the debris from sphaleron decay. We show that baryon number production leads to left-handed magnetic fields, and that the magnetic helicity is conserved at late times. Our analysis explicitly demonstrates the connection between sphaleron-mediated cosmic baryogenesis and cosmic magnetogenesis.
Using the helicity formalism, we compute the contribution of a quark-antiquark pair to the tree-level multigluon amplitudes in the high-energy limit. The $\bar{q}\, q$-pair production is absent in the leading-log formalism, but contributes to the next-to-leading corrections to it, and is therefore relevant for the computation of parton-parton scattering in the high-energy limit and of the gluon anomalous dimension at small $x_{bj}$, at next-to-leading accuracy.
We consider the process containing two quark lines and an arbitrary number of gluons in a spinor helicity framework. A current with two off-shell gluons appears in the amplitude. We first study this modified gluon current using recursion relations. The recursion relation for the modified gluon current is solved for the case of like-helicity gluons. We apply the modified gluon current to compute the amplitude for $q \bar q \rightarrow q \bar q gg \cdots g$ in the like-helicity gluon case.
We compute helicity amplitudes for the one-loop QCD corrections to top-quark pair production analytically in terms of a set of uniformly transcendental master integrals. We provide corrections up to $O(ε^2)$ in the dimensional regulator for the first time which are relevant at NNLO. Four independent pentagon integral topologies appear in the complete description of the colour structure for which we provide numerical solutions using canonical form differential equations and the method of generalised power series expansions. Analytic forms of the boundary values are obtained in all cases except …
We use a recent formalism of the weak hadronic reactions that maps the transition matrix elements at the quark level into hadronic matrix elements, evaluated with an elaborate angular momentum algebra that allows finally to write the weak matrix elements in terms of easy analytical formulas. In particular they appear explicitly for the different spin third components of the vector mesons involved. We extend the formalism to a general case, with the operator $γ^μ-αγ^μγ_5$, that can accommodate different models beyond the standard model and study in detail the $B \to D^{*} \barν l$ reaction for …
We explore how well one can probe the s quark chirality of the fundamental weak interaction of nonleptonic B decay using the spin-analyzing property of the Lambda hyperon. We present the prediction of the Standard Model as quantitatively as possible in a perturbative QCD picture avoiding detailed form-factor calculation involving quark mass corrections. A clean test of chirality will be possible with the decay B-bar to Lambda X.
We present the first numerical results for the two-loop helicity amplitudes for the scattering of four partons and a W-boson in QCD. We use a finite field sampling method to reduce directly from Feynman diagrams to the coefficients of a set of master integrals after applying integration-by-parts identities. Since the basis of master integrals is not yet fully known analytically, we identify a set of master integrals with a simple divergence structure using local numerator insertions. This allows for accurate numerical evaluation of the amplitude using sector decomposition methods.
I discuss how to obtain angular decay distributions for sequential cascade decays using helicity methods. The angular decay distributions follow from a reasonably simple master formula involving bilinear forms of helicity amplitudes and Wigner's $d$ functions. I discuss in some detail the issue of gauge invariance for off-shell gauge bosons. As a technical exercise I calculate the linear relation between the helicity amplitudes and the invariant amplitudes of semileptonic and rare baryon decays. I discuss two explicit examples of angular decay distributions for (i) the decay $t\to b+W^+(\to \e…
Generalized parton distributions with helicity flip are studied in the quark sector, within a simple version of the MIT bag model, assuming an SU(6) wave function for the proton target. In the framework under scrutiny it turns out that only the generalized transversity distribution, H_T^q, is non vanishing. For this quantity, the forward limit is properly recovered and numerical results are found to underestimate recent lattice data for its first moment. Positivity bounds recently proposed are fulfilled by the obtained distribution. The relevance of the analysis for the planning of measurement…
Self-dual perturbiner in the Yang-Mills theory is constructed by the twistor methods both in topologically trivial and topologically nontrivial cases. Maximally helicity violating amplitudes and their instanton induced analogies are briefly discussed.
We present a broad study of collider processes that embed $2 \to 2$ scattering amplitudes involving top quarks in the Electroweak sector. We parametrise the modified interactions using the Standard Model Effective Field Theory framework and discuss how the New Physics effects lead to unitarity violating behaviour at the amplitude level. For each scattering amplitude we compute the helicity amplitudes in the high energy limit paying special attention to the effects of the higher dimensional operators. We also discuss whether and to what extent the unitarity violating effects are retained in phy…
The possibility to access the absolute neutrino mass scale through the measurement of the wrong helicity contribution of charged leptons is investigated in pion decay. Through this method, one may have access to the same effective mass $m^2_β$ extractable from the tritium beta decay experiments for electron neutrinos as well as the analogous effective mass $(m^2_{ν_μ})_{\rm eff}$ for muon neutrinos. In the channel $π^-\to e^-\barν$, the relative probability of producing an antineutrino with left helicity is enhanced if compared with the naive expectation $(m_ν/2E_ν)^2$. The possibility to cons…
We discuss the production of hadrons in polarized lepton nucleon interactions and in the current jet fragmentation region; using the QCD hard scattering formalism we compute the helicity density matrix of the hadron and show how its elements, when measurable, can give information on the spin structure of the nucleon and the spin dependence of the quark fragmentation process. The cases of $ρ$ vector mesons and $Λ$ baryons are considered in more details and, within simplifying assumptions, some estimates are given.
Using the Woods Saxon plus Coulomb type of interaction between two hadron molecules, we have calculated the binding energies and masses of the tetraquark states such as $D\bar{D}$, $D\bar{D}^*$, $D^*\bar{D}^*$, $D^+\bar{D}^*$ in the charm sector and $B\bar{B}$, $B^*\bar{B}^*$, $B\bar{B}^*$ in the bottom sector.
Combining data on unpolarized and polarized inclusive proton structure functions, we perform the first detailed study of quark-hadron duality in individual helicity-1/2 and 3/2 virtual photoproduction cross sections. We find that duality is realized more clearly in the helicity-1/2 channel, with duality violating corrections < 10% over the entire nucleon resonance region, while larger, < 20% corrections are found in the helicity-3/2 sector. The results are in general agreement with quark model expectations, and suggest that data above the Delta resonance region may be used to constrain both sp…
We present results for the helicity amplitudes of the lowest-lying hyperon resonances Y*, computed within the framework of the Bonn constituent-quark model, which is based on the Bethe-Salpeter approach. The seven parameters entering the model were fitted to the best known baryon masses. Accordingly, the results for the helicity amplitudes are genuine predictions. Some hyperon resonances are seen to couple more strongly to a virtual photon with finite Q^2 than to a real photon. Other Y*'s, such as the S_{01}(1670) Lambda resonance or the S_{11}(1620) Sigma resonance, couple very strongly to re…
We calculate the single-spin asymmetries $A^{W^{\pm}}_{L}$ of $W^{\pm}$ bosons produced in polarized pp collisions with the valence part of the up and down quark helicity distributions modeled by the light-cone quark-spectator-diquark model while the sea part helicity distributions of the up and down quarks treated as parametrization. Comparing our results with those from experimental data at RHIC, we find that the helicity distributions of sea quarks play an important role in the determination of the shapes of $A^{W^{\pm}}_{L}$. It is shown that $A^{W^{-}}_{L}$ is sensitive to $Δ\bar u$, whil…
Toward the goal of extracting the weak angle alpha, the decay B^0/B^0-bar to a_0^{+/-}pi^{-/+} was recently measured. The decay B^0 to a_0^+pi^- is not only forbidden in the factorization limit of the tree interaction, but also strongly suppressed for the penguin interaction if short-distance QCD dominates. This makes extraction of alpha very difficult from a^{+/-}π^{-/+}. We examine the simlar factorization-suppressed decays, in particular, B^0\to b_1^+pi^-. The prospect of obtaining alpha is even less promising with b_1^{+/-}pi^{-/+}. To probe how well the short-distance dominance works, we …
Radiative decays of polarized Lambda_b baryons represent an attractive possibility to measure the helicity of the photon emitted in the b --> s gamma quark transition and thus to subject the Standard Model to a stringent test at existing and future hadron colliders. The most abundant mode, Lambda(1116) gamma, is experimentally very challenging because of the long decay length of the Lambda(1116). We show that the experimentally more accessible Lambda_b --> p K gamma decays proceeding via Lambda resonances may be used to extract the photon helicity for sufficient Lambda_b polarization, if the r…
The modularity property of the helicity formalism is used to provide amplitude expressions and stage-two spin-correlation functions which can easily be used in direct experimental searches for electro-weak symmetries and dynamics in the decay processes $t \to W^+ b$, $\bar t \to W^- \bar b$. The formalism is used to describe the decay sequences $t\to W^{+}b\to (l^{+}ν)b$, and $t\to W^{+}b\to (j_{\bar d}j_u)b$. Helicity amplitudes for $t \to W^+ b $ are obtained for the most general $J_{\bar b t}$ current. Thereby, the most general Lorentz-invariant decay-density-matrix for $t\to W^{+}b\to (l^{…
Similarly to the previously studied case of inclusive $t\bar t$ production we consider the inclusive $t\bar b$ production in $e^+e^-$, gluon~gluon and photon~photon collisions. We show how it is sensitive to new physics, connected to the charged Goldstone sector and possibly generated by Higgs and/or top quark compositeness.
The discovery of some baryon-antibaryon resonances has led us to consider 3q~3\bar{q} systems as possible candidates. We predict their spectrum in the framework of a constituent model, where the chromo-magnetic interaction plays the main role. The relevant parameters are fixed by the present knowledge on tetraquarks. The emerging scenario complies well with experiment. Besides the description of the baryon-antibaryon resonances, we find evidence for new tetraquark states, namely the a0(Y) in the hidden strangeness sector and, in the cs\bar{c}\bar{s} sector, the Y(4140) and the X(4350). A detai…
For the processes e+e-\to μ+μ-, τ+τ-, b\bar{b} and c\bar{c} at a future e+e- collider with \sqrt{s}=0.5 TeV, we examine the sensitivity of the helicity cross sections to four-fermion contact interactions. If longitudinal polarization of the electron beam were available, two polarized integrated cross sections would offer the opportunity to separate the helicity cross sections and, in this way, to derive model-independent bounds on the relevant parameters. The measurement of these polarized cross sections with optimal kinematical cuts could significantly increase the sensitivity of helicity cro…
We estimate the intrinsic charm contributions to the quark flavor and spin observables of the nucleon in the SU(4) quark meson fluctuation model. In this model, the charm or anticharm reside in the charmed mesons created by the nonperturbative quantum quark-meson fluctuations. The intrinsic charm content in the proton, $2\bar c/\sum(q+\bar q) \simeq 0.011\pm 0.008$, is almost one order of magnitude smaller than the intrinsic strange content. The intrinsic charm helicity is also small and negative, $Δc\simeq -(0.009\pm 0.006)$. The fraction of the total quark helicity carried by the charm is $|…
