On the calculation of exact sum rules of rational order for quantum billiards (spectrum with a null eigenvalue)

We generalize the calculation of Ref.~\cite{Amore19B} to the case of a spectrum containing a zero mode. Using a renormalization procedure, we express the sum rules in terms of suitable traces and show that the final expressions, calculated up to second order in perturbation theory agree with the results obtained when working directly with the eigenvalues and using Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory.

On the calculation of exact sum rules of rational order for quantum billiards

We study the Helmholtz equation for a heterogeneous system in $d$ dimensions and show that it is possible to calculate exactly the sum rules of rational order using perturbation theory by relating the sum rules to suitable traces. The present calculation is restricted to a positive definite spectrum, e.g. Dirichlet boundary conditions, and it reproduces the result previously obtained in Ref.~\cite{Amore12}, working directly with Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory.

We discuss the interplay between the piece-line regular and vertex-angle singular boundary effects, related to integrability and chaotic features in rational polygonal billiards. From Classical Periodic Orbits in Integrable $π$-Rational Billiards to Quantum Energy Spectrum

In the present note, we uncover a remarkable connection between the length of periodic orbit of a classical particle enclosed in a class of 2-dimensional planar billiards and the energy of a quantum particle confined to move in an identical region with infinitely high potential wall on the boundary. Ergodic directions for billiards in a strip with periodically located obstacles

We study the size of the set of ergodic directions for the directional billiard flows on the infinite band $\R\times [0,h]$ with periodically placed linear barriers of length $0<λ<h$. We prove that the set of ergodic directions is always uncountable. Moreover, if $λ/h\in(0,1)$ is rational the Hausdorff dimension of the set of ergodic directions is greater than 1/2. In both cases (rational and irrational) we construct explicitly some sets of ergodic directions.

The rational billiards (RB) are classically pseudointegrable, i.e. their trajectories in the phase space lie on multi-tori. Each such a multi-torus can be unfolded into elementary polygon pattern (EPP). Small gaps in the spectrum of the rectangular billiard

We study the size of the minimal gap between the first N eigenvalues of the Laplacian on a rectangular billiard having irrational squared aspect ratio $α$, in comparison to the corresponding quantity for a Poissonian sequence. If $α$ is a quadratic irrationality of certain type, such as the square root of a rational number, we show that the minimal gap is roughly of size 1/N, which is essentially consistent with Poisson statistics.
