We consider the possibility of the quantum vacuum states in f(R,T) gravity. Particularly, we study the Bogoliubov transformations associated to different vacuum states for some f(R,T) models. The method consists of fixing the f(R,T) free parameters by requiring the Bogoliubov coefficients to be minimized. In such a way, the particle production is related to the value of the Hubble parameter and also the given f(R,T) model.
We study the constraints on alternative theories of gravity that can be determined by multi-band observations of gravitational wave signals emitted from binary black hole coalescences. We focus on three types of General Relativity modifications induced by a generalised Brans-Dicke theory, and two classes of quadratic gravity, Einstein-dilaton-Gauss-Bonnet and dynamical Chern-Simons. Considering a network of space and ground-based detectors, supplied by a population of spinning binaries black hole, we show how the multi-band analysis improves the existing bounds on the theory's parameters by se…
We consider the particle creation scenario in the dynamical Chern-Simons modified gravity in the presence of perfect fluid equation of state $p=(γ-1)ρ$. By assuming various modified entropies (Bekenstein, logarithmic, power law correction and Reyni), we investigate the first law of thermodynamics and generalized second law of thermodynamics on the apparent horizon. In the presence of particle creation rate, we discuss the generalized second law of thermodynamics and thermal equilibrium condition. It is found that thermodynamic laws and equilibrium condition remain valid under certain condition…
We constructed the conformally invariant model for scalar particle creation induced by strong gravitational fields. Starting from the "usual" hydrodynamical description of the particle motion written in the Eulerian coordinates we substituted the particle number conservation law (which enters the formalism) by "the particle creation law", proportional to the square of the Weyl tensor (following the famous result by Ya.B.Zel`dovich and A. A.Starobinsky). Then, demanding the conformal invariance of the whole dynamical system, we have got both the (Weyl)-conformal gravity and the Einstein--Hilber…
In this paper, we study the weak deflection angle of black hole in effective loop quantum gravity using the geometrical technique used by Gibbons and Werner. We first derive the optical metric, calculate the Gaussian optical curvature, and then apply the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. We then also investigate the effect of plasma and dark matter mediums on the weak deflection angle. We show that increasing the impact of these two mediums grows the deflection angle. We also calculate the Hawking temperature via Gauss-Bonnet theorem. In addition, we determine the fermionic greybody bounds. Moreover, we d…
The theoretical and observational consequences of thermodynamics of open systems, which allow particle creation are investigated in modified $f(R,T)$ ($R$ is the Ricci scalar and $T$ is the trace of energy-momentum tensor) theory of gravity within the framework of a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker line element. A simplest particular model $f(R,T)=R+2f(T)$ and "gamma-law" equation of state $p=(γ-1)ρ$ are assumed to explore the role of particle creation in the early and late time evolution of the universe. A power-law expansion model is proposed for $0\leq γ\leq 2$ by considering the natural phe…
We study cosmological inflation and reheating in the unimodular f(R,T) gravity. During the reheating era, which takes place just after the end of inflation, the energy density of inflaton is converted to radiation energy through, for instance, rapid oscillation about the minimum of the potential. We quantify our investigation by calculating the reheating temperature. This quantity is written in terms of the spectral index and the power spectrum, which provides a suitable framework to constrain the parameter space of the model. We discuss the massless particle creation for a spatially flat, hom…
In extended models of gravity a nonminimal coupling to matter has been assumed to lead to irreversible particle creation. In this paper we challenge this assumption. We argue that a non-minimal coupling of the matter and gravitational sectors results in a change in particle-momentum on a cosmological timescale, irrespective of particle creation or decay. We further argue that particle creation or decay associated with a non-minimal coupling to gravity could only happen as a result of significant deviations from a homogeneous Friedmann-Robertson-Walker geometry on microscopic scales, and provid…
In this paper, we have studied flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker (FLRW) model with modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) having equation of state $p_{m}=Aρ-% \frac{B}{ρ^{γ}}$, where $0\leq A\leq 1$, $0\leq γ\leq 1$ and $B$ is any positive constant in }${\footnotesize f(R,T)}${\footnotesize \ gravity with particle creation. We have considered a simple parametrization of the Hubble parameter $H$ in order to solve the field equations and discussed the time evolution of different cosmological parameters for some obtained models showing unique behavior of scale factor. We have also discussed the…
We investigate quantum corrections of the 2-d dilaton gravity near the singularity. Our motivation comes from a s-wave reduced cosmological solution which is classically singular in the scalar fields (dilaton and moduli). As result we find, that the singularity disappears and a dilaton/moduli potential is created.
Massive scalar particle production, due to the anisotropic evolution of a five-dimensional spacetime, is considered in the context of a quadratic Lagrangian theory of gravity. Those particles, corresponding to field modes with non-vanishing momentum component along the fifth dimension, are created mostly in the neighbourhood of a singular epoch where only their high-frequency behaviour is of considerable importance. At the 1-loop approximation level, general renormalizability conditions on the physical quantities relevant to particle production are derived and discussed. Exact solutions of the…
The time delay between gravitational wave signals arriving at widely separated detectors can be used to place upper and lower bounds on the speed of gravitational wave propagation. Using a Bayesian approach that combines the first three gravitational wave detections reported by the LIGO collaboration we constrain the gravitational waves propagation speed c_gw to the 90% credible interval 0.55 c < c_gw < 1.42 c, where c is the speed of light in vacuum. These bounds will improve as more detections are made and as more detectors join the worldwide network. Of order twenty detections by the two LI…
The black hole weak gravity conjecture (WGC) is a set of linear inequalities on the four-derivative corrections to Einstein--Maxwell theory. Remarkably, in four dimensions, these combinations appear in the $2 \to 2$ photon amplitudes, leading to the hope that the conjecture might be supported using dispersion relations. However, the presence of a pole arising in the forward limit due to graviton exchange greatly complicates the use of such arguments. In this paper, we apply recently developed numerical techniques to handle the graviton pole, and we find that standard dispersive arguments are n…
In this paper, we consider an open system from the thermodynamic perspective for an adiabatic FRW universe model in which particle creation occurs within the system. In that case, the modified continuity equation is obtained and then we correspond it to the continuity equation of $f(T)$ gravity. So, we take $f(T)$ gravity with the viscous fluid in flat-FRW metric, in which $T$ is the torsion scalar. We consider the contents of the universe to be dark matter and dark energy and consider an interaction term between them. The interesting point of this study is that we make equivalent the modified…
Several models of $f(R)$ gravity have been proposed in order to address the dark side problem in cosmology. However, these models should be constrained also at ultraviolet scales in order to achieve some correct fundamental interpretation. Here we analyze this possibility comparing quantum vacuum states in given $f(R)$ cosmological backgrounds. Specifically, we compare the Bogolubov transformations associated to different vacuum states for some $f(R)$ models. The procedure consists in fixing the $f(R)$ free parameters by requiring that the Bogolubov coefficients can be correspondingly minimize…
We investigate a nucleation of a Euclidean wormhole and its analytic continuation to Lorentzian signatures in Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton gravity, where this model can be embedded by the type-II superstring theory. We show that there exists a Euclidean wormhole solution in this model by choosing a suitable shape of the dilaton potential. After the analytic continuation, this explains a quantum creation of a time-like traversable wormhole. Finally, we discuss relations to the information loss problem and the current literature.
A flat FLRW cosmological model with perfect fluid comprising of variable Chaplygin gas has been studied in context of f(R; T) gravity with particle creation. The considered scale factors describe the accelerated expansion of universe due to the effective negative pressure produced during evolution of universe. The role of particle creation pressure on the cosmological parameters have been discussed in detail. By considering well accepted values of free parameters, the late time expansion of the universe with energy conditions have also been studied. The state-finder diagnostic for the consider…

We study the black hole particle production in a regular spacetime metric obtained in a minisuperspace approach to loop quantum gravity. In different previous papers the static solution was obtained and shown to be singularity-free and self-dual. In this paper expanding a previous study of the black hole dynamics we repeat the Hawking analysis which leads to a thermal flux of particles at the future infinity. The evaporation time is infinite and the unitarity is recovered due to the regularity of the spacetime and to the characteristic behavior of the surface gravity.
We analyze the pair production induced by homogenous, time-dependent electric fields in an expanding space-time background. We point out that, in obtaining the semiclassical Maxwell equations, two distinct notions of adiabatic renormalization are possible. In Minkowski space the two recipes turn out to be equivalent. However, in the presence of gravity only the recipe requiring an adiabatic hierarchy between the gravitational and the gauge field is consistent with the conservation of the energy-momentum tensor.
The description of quantum tunnelling in the presence of gravity shows subtleties in some cases. Here we discuss wormhole production in the context of the spherically symmetric thin-shell approximation. By presenting a fully consistent treatment based on canonical quantization, we solve a controversy present in literature.
We study the process of quantum tunnelling in scalar-tensor theories in which the scalar field is non-minimally coupled to gravity. In these theories gravitational instantons can deviate substantially from sphericity and can in fact develop a neck - a feature prohibited in theories with minimal coupling. Such instantons with necks lead to the materialisation of bubble geometries containing a wormhole region. We clarify the relationship of neck geometries to violations of the null energy condition, and also derive a bound on the size of the neck relative to that of the instanton.
Using the recently proposed formalism for Lambda<0 quantum gravity in 2+1 dimensions we study the process of black hole production in a collision of two point particles. The creation probability for a BH with a simplest topology inside the horizon is given by the Liouville theory 4-point function projected on an intermediate state. We analyze in detail the semi-classical limit of small AdS curvatures, in which the probability is dominated by the exponential of the classical Liouville action. The probability is found to be exponentially small. We then argue that the total probability of creatin…
In this paper the quantization of the 2$+$1-dimensional gravity couplet to the massless Dirac field is carried out. The problem is solved by the application of the new Dynamic Quantization Method [1,2]. It is well-known that in general covariant theories such as gravitation, a Hamiltonian is any linear combination of the first class constraints, which can be considered as gauge transformation generators. To perform quantization, the Dirac field modes with gauge invariant creation and annihilation operators are selected. The regularization of the theory is made by imposing an infinite set of th…
Primordial black holes are considered to be pair created quantum-mechanically during inflation. In the context of General Relativity (GR), it has been shown that the pair creation rate is exponentially decreasing during inflation. Specifically, tiny black holes are favored in the early universe, but they can grow with the horizon scale, as inflation approaches its end. At the same time, cosmological, and not only, shortcomings of GR have triggered the pursuit for a new, alternative theory of gravity. In this paper, by using probability amplitudes from the No Boundary Proposal (NBP), we argue t…

We investigate the structure of quantum correlations in an expanding Bose Einstein Condensate (BEC) through the analogue gravity framework. We consider both a 3+1 isotropically expanding BEC as well as the experimentally relevant case of an elongated, effectively 1+1 dimensional, expanding condensate. In this case we include the effects of inhomogeneities in the condensate, a feature rarely included in the analogue gravity literature. In both cases we link the BEC expansion to a simple model for an expanding spacetime and then study the correlation structure numerically and analytically (in su…
In this paper, we study the problem of massless particle creation in a flat, homogeneous and isotropic universe in the framework of $f(G)$ gravity. The Bogolyubov coefficients are calculated for the accelerating power-law solutions of the model in a matter dominated universe, from which the total number of created particle per unit volume of space can be obtained. It is proved that the total particle density always has a finite value. Therefore, the Bogolyubov transformations are well-defined and the Hilbert spaces spanned by the vacuum states at different times are unitarily equivalent. We fi…
We investigate the shadow, deflection angle, and the greybody bounding of a Schwarzschild-AdS/dS black hole in scale-dependent gravity. We used the EHT data to constrain the parameter $ε$. We have found that within the $1σ$ level of uncertainty, $εM_0$ ranges at $10^{-11} - 10^{-16}$ orders of magnitude for Sgr. A*, and $10^{-11} - 10^{-17}$ for M87*. Using these parameters, we explored how the shadow radius behaves as perceived by a static observer. Using the known parameters for Sgr. A* and M87*, we found different shadow cast behavior near the cosmological horizon even if the same scaling p…
The probability for quantum creation of an inflationary universe with a pair of black holes in 1/R - gravitational theory has been studied. Considering a gravitational action which includes a cosmological constant ($Λ$) in addition to $ δR^{- 1} $ term, the probability has been evaluated in a semiclassical approximation with Hartle-Hawking boundary condition. We obtain instanton solutions determined by the parameters $δ$ and $Λ$ satisfying the constraint $ δ\leq \frac{4 Λ^{2}}{3}$. However, we note that two different classes of instanton solutions exists in the region $0 < δ< \frac{4 Λ^{2}}{3}…
The new theory of Self Creation Cosmology has been shown to yield a concordant cosmological solution that does not require inflation, exotic non-baryonic Dark matter or Dark Energy to fit observational constraints. In vacuo there is a conformal equivalence between this theory and canonical General Relativity and as a consequence an experimental degeneracy exists as the two theories predict identical results in the standard tests. However, there are three definitive experiments that are able to resolve this degeneracy and distinguish between the two theories. Here these standard tests and defin…

When two point particles, coupled to three dimensional gravity with a negative cosmological constant, approach each other with a sufficiently large center of mass energy, then a BTZ black hole is created. An explicit solution to the Einstein equations is presented, describing the collapse of two massless particles into a non-rotating black hole. Some general arguments imply that massive particles can be used as well, and the creation of a rotating black hole is also possible.
It is shown that the vacuum state in presence of Lorentz violation can be followed by a particle-full universe that represents the current status of the universe. In this model the modification in dispersion relation (Lorentz violation) is picked up representing the regime of quantum gravity. The result can be interpreted such that the existence of the particles is an evidence for quantum effects of gravity in the past. It is concluded that only the vacuum state is sufficient to appear the matter fields spontaneously after the process of semi-classical analysis.
In this paper we study the creation of super-massive real scalar particles in the framework of a $f(R)=R-β/R^n$ modified gravity theory, with parameters constrained by observational data. The analysis is restrict to a homogeneous and isotropic flat and radiation dominated universe. We compare the results to the standard Einstein gravity with cosmological constant ($ΛCDM$ model), and we show that the total number density of created particles in the $f(R)$ model is very close to the standard case. Another interesting result is that the spectrum of created particles is $β$ independent at early ti…
A non-singular cosmology is derived in modified gravity (MOG) with a varying gravitational coupling strength $G(t)=G_Nξ(t)$. Assuming that the curvature $k$, the cosmological constant $Λ$ and $ρ$ vanish at $t=0$, we obtain a non-singular universe with a negative pressure, $p_G < 0$. Quantum fluctuations at $t\sim 0$ produce creation of pairs of particles from the vacuum explaining the origin of matter. The universe expands for $t\to \infty$ according to the standard radiation and matter dominated solutions. The arrow of time reverses at $t=0$ always pointing in the direction of increasing entr…
We fully solve the quantum geometry of $\Bbb Z_n$ as a polygon graph with arbitrary metric lengths on the edges, finding a $*$-preserving quantum Levi-Civita connection which is unique for $n\ne 4$. As a first application, we numerically compute correlation functions for Euclideanised quantum gravity on $\Bbb Z_n$ for small $n$. We then study an FLRW model on $\Bbb R\times\Bbb Z_n$, finding the same expansion rate as for the classical flat FLRW model in 1+2 dimensions. We also look at particle creation on $\Bbb R\times \Bbb Z_n$ and find an additional $m=0$ adiabatic no particle creation expan…
I modify the quasilocal energy formalism of Brown and York into a purely Hamiltonian form. As part of the reformulation, I remove their restriction that the time evolution of the boundary of the spacetime be orthogonal to the leaves of the time foliation. Thus the new formulation allows an arbitrary evolution of the boundary which physically corresponds to allowing general motions of the set of observers making up that boundary. I calculate the rate of change of the quasilocal energy in such situations, show how it transforms with respect to boosts of the boundaries, and use the Lanczos-Israel…
Analogue gravity can be used to reproduce the phenomenology of quantum field theory in curved spacetime and in particular phenomena such as cosmological particle creation and Hawking radiation. In black hole physics, taking into account the backreaction of such effects on the metric requires an extension to semiclassical gravity and leads to an apparent inconsistency in the theory: the black hole evaporation induces a breakdown of the unitary quantum evolution leading to the so called information loss problem. Here we show that analogue gravity can provide an interesting perspective on the res…
We explore the possibility of gravitationally generated particle production in the scalar-tensor representation of $f(R,T)$ gravity. Due to the explicit nonminimal curvature-matter coupling in the theory, the divergence of the matter energy-momentum tensor does not vanish. We explore the physical and cosmological implications of this property by using the formalism of irreversible thermodynamics of open systems in the presence of matter creation/annihilation. The particle creation rates, pressure, temperature evolution and the expression of the comoving entropy are obtained in a covariant form…
A thermal squeezed state representation of inflaton is constructed for a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker background metric and the phenomenon of particle creation is examined during the oscillatory phase of inflaton, in the semiclassical theory of gravity. An approximate solution to the semiclassical Einstein equation is obtained in thermal squeezed state formalism by perturbatively and is found obey the same power-law expansion as that of classical Einstein equation. In addition to that the solution shows oscillatory in nature except on a particular condition. It is also noted that, the coher…
The spontaneous creation of primordial black holes in a violently expanding Universe is a well studied phenomenon. Based on quantum gravity arguments, it has been conjectured that the early Universe might have undergone a lower dimensional phase before relaxing to the current $(3 + 1)$ dimensional state. In this article we combine the above phenomena: we calculate the pair creation rates of black holes nucleated in an expanding Universe, by assuming a dimensional evolution, we term ``oxidation'', from $(1 + 1)$ to $(2 + 1)$ and finally to $(3 + 1)$ dimensions. Our investigation is based on the…
Modified gravity theories with geometry - matter coupling, in which the action is an arbitrary function of the Ricci scalar and the matter Lagrangian ($f\left(R,L_m\right)$ gravity), and of the Ricci scalar and of the trace of the matter energy-momentum tensor ($f(R,T)$ gravity), respectively, have the intriguing property that the divergence of the matter energy - momentum tensor is nonzero. In the present paper, by using the formalism of open thermodynamic systems, we interpret the generalized conservation equations in these gravitational theories from a thermodynamic point of view as describ…
The problem of cosmological particle creation for a spatially flat, homogeneous and isotropic Universes is discussed in the context of f(R) theories of gravity. Different from cosmological models based on general relativity theory, it is found that a conformal invariant metric does not forbid the creation of massless particles during the early stages (radiation era) of the Universe.
We set up a tunneling approach to the analogue Hawking effect in the case of models of analogue gravity which are affected by dispersive effects. An effective Schroedinger-like equation for the basic scattering phenomenon IN->P+N*, where IN is the incident mode, P is the positive norm reflected mode, and N* is the negative norm one, signalling particle creation, is derived, aimed to an approximate description of the phenomenon. Horizons and barrier penetration play manifestly a key-role in giving rise to pair-creation. The non-dispersive limit is also correctly recovered. Drawbacks of the mode…
We consider dark energy cosmology in a de Sitter universe filled with quantum conformal matter. Our model represents a Gauss-Bonnet model of gravity with contributions from quantum effects. To the General Relativity action an arbitrary function of the GB invariant, f(G), is added, and taking into account quantum effects from matter the cosmological constant is studied. For the considered model the conditions for a vanishing cosmological constant are considered. Creation of a de Sitter universe by quantum effects in a GB modified gravity is discussed.
We consider Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in $n(\ge 6)$-dimensional Kaluza-Klein spacetime ${\ma M}^{4} \times {\ma K}^{n-4}$, where ${\ma K}^{n-4}$ is the Einstein space with negative curvature. In the case where ${\ma K}^{n-4}$ is the space of negative constant curvature, we have recently obtained a new static black-hole solution (Phys. Rev. D {\bf 74}, 021501(R) (2006), hep-th/0605031) which is a pure gravitational creation including Maxwell field in four-dimensional vacuum spacetime. The solution has been generalized to make it radially radiate null radiation representing gravitational cre…
