A prime number based parametrization for total neutrino-nucleon cross section is presented. The method employs the relation between prime numbers and their indices to reproduce neutrino cross sections for neutrino energies from the $MeV$ to the $PeV$ regions where experimental data are available. This prime-index relation provides estimates of the neutrino-nucleon cross sections valid across many decades of neutrino energy scales. The $PeV$ data are from the recently published astrophysical $ν_μ+ \bar ν_μ$ rates in the IceCube detector as well as neutrino-nucleon cross section measurements. A similar method has been employed for high energy $pp$ cross sections which explains the $(\ln s)^{2}$ parametrization first proposed by Heisenberg.
We consider the application of the dual parametrization for the case of gluon GPDs in the nucleon. This provides opportunities for the more flexible modeling unpolarized gluon GPDs in a nucleon which in particular contain the invaluable information on the fraction of nucleon spin carried by gluons. We perform the generalization of Abel transform tomography approach for the case of gluons. We also discuss the skewness effect in the framework of the dual parametrization. We strongly suggest to employ the fitting strategies based on the dual parametrization to extract the information on GPDs from…
We discuss the links between Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) and elastic nucleon form factors. These links, in the form of sum rules, represent powerful constraints on parametrizations of GPDs. A Regge parametrization for GPDs at small momentum transfer, is extended to the large momentum transfer region and it is found to describe the basic features of proton and neutron electromagnetic form factor data. This parametrization is used to estimate the quark contribution to the nucleon spin.
Coupling constants of $η$ and $η^{\prime}$ mesons with nucleons have been calculated using the method of QCD sum rules. Starting from vacuum-to-meson correlation function of interpolating fields of two nucleons, its matrix element with respect to nucleon spinors has been considered. Coupling constants at the physical points have been estimated from extrapolation of results obtained at two other points. Anomalous glue has been found to give substantial contribution to the coupling constants and also accounts for a significant OZI-rule violation.
We present a physically motivated parametrization of the chiral-even generalized parton distributions in the non-singlet sector obtained from a global analysis using a set of available experimental data. Our analysis is valid in the kinematical region of intermediate Bjorken $x$ and for $Q^2$ in the multi-GeV region which is accessible at present and currently planned facilities. Relevant data included in our fit are from the nucleon elastic form factors measurements, from deep inelastic scattering experiments. Additional information provided by lattice calculations of the higher moments of ge…
The light-mass exotics with J^{PC}=1^{-+} observed at BNL and CERN may have a simple explanation as dynamically generated resonances in eta-prime pi rescattering in the final state interaction. This dynamics is mediated by the same anomalous glue which also generates the large mass of the eta-prime. OZI violating processes are also potentially important to eta-prime production in proton-proton collisions close to threshold.
The observed small value of the first moment of the polarized nucleon spin structure function $g_1$ may be interpreted, in the Veneziano--Shore approach, as a suppression of the first moment $χ^\prime(0)$ of the QCD topological susceptibility. I give an extension of the Witten--Veneziano argument for the $U(1)$ problem, which yields the $O(1/N)$ correction to the $N = \infty$ relation $χ^\prime(0)/F^2_0 = 1$ (where $F_0$ is the $η^\prime$ axial vector coupling). The correction, although negative, seems too small to account for the data. I further argue that the $(η,η^\prime)\rightarrowγγ$ and $…
We study the asymptotic behavior of the ratio of Pauli and Dirac electromagnetic nucleon form factors, $F_2/F_1$, in time-like region for different parametrizations built for the space-like region. We investigate how fast the ratio $F_2/F_1$ approaches the asymptotic limits according to the Phragmèn-Lindelöf theorem. We show that the QCD-inspired logarithmic behavior of this ratio results in very far asymptotics, experimentally unachievable. This is also confirmed by the normal component of the nucleon polarization, $P_y$, in $e^++e^-\to N+\bar{N}$ (in collisions of unpolarized leptons), which…
This article provides the calculation of an effective vertex function between a nucleon and a $Z^\prime$ boson that couples preferentially to either the top quark or the third generation of fermions, for the purpose of calculating vector-portal dark matter nuclear recoil cross sections. Mixing effects between the new gauge group $U(1)^\prime$ and the Standard Model hypercharge group $U(1)_Y$ are taken into account. Contributions to the $U(1)^\prime$ nucleon current from heavy quarks are quantified using the heavy quark expansion. Also taken into account are contributions from the 1-loop $Z^\pr…
We revisit the model for parametrization of momentum dependence of nucleon generalized parton distributions in the light of recent MRST measurements of parton distribution functions. Our parametrization method with minimum set of free parameters give a sufficiently good description of data for Dirac and Pauli electromagnetic form factors of proton and neutron at small and intermediate values of momentum transfer. We also calculate the GPDs for up and down quark by decomposing the electromagnetic form factors for nucleon using the charge and isospin symmetry and also study the evolution of GPDs…
By using a new parametrization of the dilaton field and including a cubic term in the bulk scalar potential, we realize linear confinement in both meson and nucleon sectors within the framework of soft-wall AdS/QCD. At the same time this model also correctly incorporate chiral symmetry breaking. We compare our resulting mass spectra with experimental data and find good agreement between them.
General properties of the differential cross section and of the polarization observables are derived for the $e^++e^-\to N+\bar N$ reaction, in presence of two--photon exchange. Polarization effects are investigated for longitudinally polarized electron and polarized antinucleon and/or polarized nucleon in the final state. The single--spin asymmetry induced by the transverse polarization of the electron beam is also discussed.
The photo- and electroproduction of eta, eta-prime mesons on nucleons are investigated within a relativistic chiral unitary approach based on coupled channels. The s-wave potentials for electroproduction and meson-baryon scattering are derived from a chiral effective Lagrangian which includes the eta-prime as an explicit degree of freedom and incorporates important features of the underlying QCD Lagrangian such as the axial U(1) anomaly. The effective potentials are iterated in a Bethe-Salpeter equation and cross sections for eta, eta-prime photo- and electroproduction from nucleons are obtain…
The electromagnetic nucleon form-factors data are studied with artificial feed forward neural networks. As a result the unbiased model-independent form-factor parametrizations are evaluated together with uncertainties. The Bayesian approach for the neural networks is adapted for chi2 error-like function and applied to the data analysis. The sequence of the feed forward neural networks with one hidden layer of units is considered. The given neural network represents a particular form-factor parametrization. The so-called evidence (the measure of how much the data favor given statistical model) …
Using a recent parametrization of nuclear effects in parton distribution functions we calculate the neutrino-nucleon cross section at energies relevant for ultra high energy neutrino telescopes. The modification of the cross section in comparison with the calculation using parton densities in free nucleons is of the order of few per cent for the parameter range of interest in neutrino telescopes (A=10 and E=10$^6$ GeV) and it reaches 20 % at the highest energies (E=10$^{12}$ GeV) and for the largest nuclear size (A=190) considered.
Starting with the VMD parametrization of the electric and magnetic nucleon form factors, which are saturated just by the ground state vector-mesons rho, omega and phi, then aplying the strict OZI rule and the asymptotic behaviour of form factors as predicted by quark model of hadrons, the famous one parameter dipole formula is derived. By its comparison with space-like data up to t = -5 GeV^2 the most optimal value of the parameter under consideration is determined. Finaly, charge and magnetization distributions in proton and neutron are predicted.
We present a theoretical parametrization of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors (FFs) based on a combination of chiral effective field theory and dispersion analysis. The isovector spectral functions on the two-pion cut are computed using elastic unitarity, chiral pion-nucleon amplitudes, and timelike pion FF data. Higher-mass isovector and isoscalar t-channel states are described by effective poles, whose strength is fixed by sum rules (charges, radii). Excellent agreement with the spacelike proton and neutron FF data is achieved up to Q^2 \sim 1 GeV^2. Our parametrization provides prope…
We present analytic parametrizations for the $γ^\ast N \to N(1440)$ form factors derived from light-front holography in leading twist approximation. The new parametrizations describe the electromagnetic form factors using analytic functions dependent on the masses of the $ρ$ meson and respective radial excitations, as well as the masses of the nucleon and the resonance $N(1440)$. The free parameters of the model, associated with three independent couplings, are interpreted as bare couplings, and are fixed by the nucleon data for large $Q^2$. The proposed parametrizations compare remarkably wel…
The importance of Born terms and resonance exchange for eta and eta-prime photoproduction off both the proton and neutron within U(3) baryon chiral perturbation theory is investigated. Low-lying resonances such as the vector mesons and J^P= 1/2^+, 1/2^- baryon resonances are included explicitly and their contributions together with the Born terms are calculated. The coupling constants of the resonances are determined from strong and radiative decays. We obtain reasonable agreement with experimental data near threshold.
We study the properties of the nucleon in highly asymmetric volumes where the spatial dimensions are small but the time dimension is large in comparison to the inverse pion mass. To facilitate power-counting at the level of Feynman diagrams, we introduce $ε^\prime$-power-counting which is a special case of Leutwyler's $δ$-power-counting. Pion zero-modes enter the $ε^\prime$-counting perturbatively, in contrast to both the $ε$- and $δ$-power-countings, since $m_q < q\bar{q}> V$ remains large. However, these modes are enhanced over those with non-zero momenta and enter at lower orders in the $ε^…
We make a first crude direct estimate of the net gluon polarization in the proton, DeltaG, combining data on the asymmetries in high-p_T hadron production from the HERMES, SMC and COMPASS collaborations. Although these data sample a restricted range of x, they provide no hint that DeltaG is large. Fixing the normalizations of different theoretical parametrizations using the hadron asymmetry data, we find typical central values of DeltaG \sim 0.5, with uncertainties of similar magnitude. Values of DeltaG \ge 2 are disfavoured by Delta chi^2 \sim 9 to 20, depending on the parametrization used.
All the leading-twist parton distribution functions are calculated in a spectator model of the nucleon, using scalar and axial-vector diquarks. Single gluon rescattering is used to generate T-odd distribution functions. Different choices for the diquark polarization states are considered, as well as a few options for the form factor at the nucleon-quark-diquark vertex. The results are listed in analytic form and interpreted in terms of light-cone wave functions. The model parameters are fixed by reproducing the phenomenological parametrization of unpolarized and helicity parton distributions a…
Some empirical parametrizations of the $γ^\ast N \to N(1535)$ transition amplitudes violates the Siegert's theorem, that relates the longitudinal and the transverse amplitudes, in the pseudo-threshold limit (nucleon and resonance at rest). In the case of the electromagnetic transition from the nucleon (mass $M$) to the resonance $N(1525)$ (mass $M_R$), the Siegert's theorem is sometimes expressed by the relation $|{\bf q}| A_{1/2}= λS_{1/2}$ in the pseudo-threshold limit, when the photon momentum $|{\bf q}|$ vanishes, and $λ= \sqrt{2} (M_R -M)$. In this article, we argue that the Siegert's the…
We present results of investigations aiming to determine the hadronic interaction of eta and eta-prime mesons with nucleons. Inferences are based on comparisons of both the differential cross sections and the close-to-threshold excitation functions for the p p --> p p eta and p p --> p p eta-prime reactions with predictions based on the assumption that the kinematically available phase space is homogeneously populated. We discuss the phenomenology of the initial and final state interaction, relevance of the hadronic and quark-gluon degrees of freedom for the reaction dynamics, and explain in d…
Using the general QCD parametrization (GP) we display the magnetic moments of the octet baryons including all flavor breaking terms to any order. The hierarchy of the GP parameters allows to estimate a parameter $g_{0}$ related to the quark loops contribution of the proton magnetic moment; its order of magnitude is predicted to be inside a comparatively small interval including the value given recently by Leinweber et al. by a lattice QCD calculation
We present a study of neutrino/antineutrino induced charged and neutral current single pion production off the nucleon. For this, we have considered $P_{33}(1232)$ resonance, non-resonant background terms, other higher resonances like $P_{11}(1440)$, $S_{11}(1535)$, $D_{13}(1520)$, $S_{11}(1650)$ and $P_{13}(1720)$. For the non-resonant background terms a microscopic approach based on SU(2) non-linear sigma model has been used. The vector form factors for the resonances are obtained by using the relationship between the electromagnetic resonance form factors and helicity amplitudes provided by…
The exact evaluation of the disconnected diagram contributions to the flavor-singlet pseudoscalar meson mass, the nucleon sigma term and the nucleon electromagnetic form factors, is carried out utilizing GPGPU technology with the NVIDIA CUDA platform. The disconnected loops are also computed using stochastic methods with several noise reduction techniques. Various dilution schemes as well as the truncated solver method are studied. We make a comparison of these stochastic techniques to the exact results and show that the number of noise vectors depends on the operator insertion in the fermioni…
Within the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach, using the Bonn potentials, we investigate the properties of dense, asymmetric nuclear matter and apply it to neutron stars. In the actual calculations of the nucleon self-energies and the energy density of matter, we study in detail the validity of an angle-averaged approximation and an averaging of the total momentum squared of interacting two-nucleons in nuclear matter. For practical use, we provide convenient parametrizations for the equation of state for symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter. We also parametrize the nucleon self-…
High-quality charged current quasielastic scattering data have recently been reported for both muon neutrinos and antineutrinos from several accelerator-based neutrino experiments. Measurements from MiniBooNE were the first to indicate that more complex nuclear effects, now thought to be the result of nucleon pair correlations, may contribute to neutrino quasielastic samples at a much higher significance than previously assumed. These findings are now being tested by MINER$ν$A and other contemporary neutrino experiments. Presented here is a comparison of data from MiniBooNE and MINER$ν$A to a …
In a previous communication we reported on a parametrization of the observed enhancement in the transverse electron quasielastic (QE) response function for nucleons bound in carbon as a function of the square of the four momentum transfer ($Q^2$) in terms of a correction to the magnetic form factors of bound nucleons. That parametrization was used to predict the overall magnitude and $Q^2$ dependence of the cross section for neutrino quasielastic scattering on nuclear targets. In this paper, we extend the study to include parametrizations of both the $Q^2$ as well as the energy transfer ($ν$) …
We propose a parametrization of the nuclear absorption mechanism relying on the proper time spent by $c\overline{c}$ bound states travelling in nuclear matter. Our approach could lead to the extraction of charmonium formation time. It is based on a large amount of proton-nucleus data, from nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=27$ GeV to $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV, collected in the past 30~years, and for which the main effect on charmonium production must be its absorption by the nuclear matter it crosses.
We derive structure functions for the quasielastic production of octet baryons in neutrino and antineutrino interactions with nucleons and study the polarization of tau leptons produced in the $Δ{Y}=0$ reactions. Possible impact of the charged second-class currents is investigated by adopting a simple phenomenological parametrization for the nonstandard scalar and tensor nucleon form factors. Our choice of the unknown parameters is made to satisfy the limits obtained in the (anti)neutrino scattering experiments and rigid restrictions derived from the nuclear structure studies.
The isovector axial form factor of the nucleon plays a key role in interpreting data from long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. We perform a lattice-QCD based calculation of this form factor, introducing a new method to directly extract its $z$-expansion from lattice correlators. Our final parametrization of the form factor, which extends up to spacelike virtualities of $0.7\,{\rm GeV}^2$ with fully quantified uncertainties, agrees with previous lattice calculations but is significantly less steep than neutrino-deuterium scattering data suggests.
The photoproduction reaction of $γp \to η^\prime p$ is investigated based on an effective Lagrangian approach in the tree-level approximation, with the purpose being to understand the reaction mechanisms and to extract the resonance contents and the associated resonance parameters in this reaction. Apart from the $t$-channel $ρ$ and $ω$ exchanges, $s$- and $u$-channel nucleon exchanges, and generalized contact term, the exchanges of a minimum number of nucleon resonances in the $s$ channel are taken into account in constructing the reaction amplitudes to describe the experimental data. It is f…
The production of pseudo scalar, Eeta, Eta-prime, and vector, Omega, Rho, Phi, mesons in NN collisions at threshold-near energies is analyzed within a covariant effective meson-nucleon theory. It is shown that a good description of cross sections and angular distributions, for vector meson production, can be accomplished by considering meson and nucleon currents only, while for pseudo scalar production an inclusion of nucleon resonances is needed. The di-electron production from subsequent Dalitz decay of the produced mesons, $η'\to γγ^* \toγe^+e^-$ and $ω\to πγ^*\to πe^+e^-$ is also considere…
We report on an updated Paris nucleon-antinucleon optical potential. The long- and intermediate-range real parts are obtained by G-parity transformation of the Paris nucleon-nucleon potential based on a theoretical dispersion-relation treatment of the correlated and uncorrelated two-pion exchange. The short-range imaginary potential parametrization results from the calculation of the nucleon-antinucleon annihilation box diagram into two mesons with a nucleon-antinucleon intermediate state in the crossed channel. The parametrized real and imaginary short range parts are determined by fitting no…
In the nucleon electroexcitation reactions, $γ^\ast N \to R$, where $R$ is a nucleon resonance ($N^\ast$), the electric amplitude $E$, and the longitudinal amplitude $S_{1/2}$, are related by $E \propto \fracω{|{\bf q}|}S_{1/2}$, at the pseudo-threshold limit ($|{\bf q}| \to 0$), where $ω$ and $|{\bf q}|$ are respectively the energy and the magnitude of three-momentum of the photon. The previous relation is usually refereed as the Siegert's theorem. The form of the electric amplitude, defined in terms of the transverse amplitudes $A_{1/2}$ and $A_{3/2}$, and the explicit coefficients of the re…
We present a parametrization of the observed enhancement in the transverse electron quasielastic (QE) response function for nucleons bound in carbon as a function of the square of the four momentum transfer (Q2) in terms of a correction to the magnetic form factors of bound nucleons. The parametrization should also be applicable to the transverse cross section in neutrino scattering. If the transverse enhancement originates from meson exchange currents (MEC), then it is theoretically expected that any enhancement in the longitudinal or axial contributions is small. We present the predictions o…
We present a new calculation of the cross sections for charged current (CC) and neutral current (NC) $νN$ and $\barν N$ interactions in the neutrino energy range $10^{4}<E_ν<10^{12}$ GeV using the most recent MSTW parton distribution functions (PDFs), MSTW 2008. We also present the associated uncertainties propagated from the PDFs, as well as parametrizations of the cross section central values, their uncertainty bounds, and the inelasticity distributions for ease of use in Monte Carlo simulations. For the latter we only provide parametrizations for energies above $10^7$ GeV. Finally, we asses…

A joint fit to neutrino-nucleon scattering and pion electroproduction data is performed to evaluate the nucleon axial form factor in the two-component model consisting of a three-quark intrinsic structure surrounded by a meson cloud. Further constrains on the model are obtained by re-evaluating the electromagnetic form factor using electron scattering data. The results of the axial form factor show sizable differences with respect to the widely used dipole model. The impact of such changes on the Charged-Current Quasi-Elastic neutrino-nucleus cross-section is evaluated in the SuSAv2 nuclear mo…
The target-mass number dependence of nucleon-nucleon pairs with short-range correlations is explored in a physically transparent geometrical model within a zero-range approximation. The observed $A$ dependence of 2-nucleon ejection cross sections in $(e,e')$ reactions is found to reflect the mass dependence of nuclear density distributions. A parametrization of this $A$ dependence is given. The $A$ dependence of proton-proton vs.\ proton-neutron pairs relative to $^{12}$C is also analyzed in this model. It can be understood using simple combinatorics without any additional isospin dependence.
Parametrization of nuclear parton distributions is investigated in the leading order of alpha_s. The parton distributions are provided at Q^2=1 GeV^2 with a number of parameters, which are determined by a chi^2 analysis of the data on nuclear structure functions. Quadratic or cubic functional form is assumed for the initial distributions. Although valence quark distributions in the medium x region are relatively well determined, the small x distributions depend slightly on the assumed functional form. It is difficult to determine the antiquark distributions at medium x and gluon distributions.…
