It has been recently shown that, under appropriate hypotheses, the $ω$-limit sets of a dynamical system are characterized by internal chain transitivity. In this paper, we examine generalizations of these ideas in the context of the action of a finitely generated free group or monoid. We give general definitions for several types of limit sets and analogous notions of internal transitivity. We then demonstrate that these limit sets are completely characterized by internal transitivity properties in shifts of finite type and general dynamical systems exhibiting a form of the shadowing property.
Let $f \colon X \to X$ be a continuous map on a compact metric space $X$ and let $α_f$, $ω_f$ and $ICT_f$ denote the set of $α$-limit sets, $ω$-limit sets and nonempty closed internally chain transitive sets respectively. In this paper we characterise, by introducing novel variants of shadowing, maps for which every element of $ICT_f$ is equal to (resp. may be approximated by) the $α$-limit set and the $ω$-limit set of the same full trajectory. We construct examples highlighting the difference between these properties.
We show that, if $f$ is a homeomorphism of the 2--torus isotopic to the identity, and its lift $\widetilde f$ is transitive, or even if it is transitive outside of the lift of the elliptic islands, then $(0,0)$ is in the interior of the rotation set of $\widetilde f.$ This proves a particular case of Boyland's conjecture.
Let $f$ be a transitive homeomorphism of the two-dimensional torus in the homotopy class of the identity. We show that a lift of $f$ to the universal covering is transitive if and only if the rotation set of the lift contains the origin in its interior.
We study dynamics of continuous maps on compact metrizable spaces containing a free interval (i.e., an open subset homeomorphic to an open interval). A special attention is paid to relationships between topological transitivity, weak and strong topological mixing, dense periodicity and topological entropy as well as to the topological structure of minimal sets. In particular, a trichotomy for minimal sets and a dichotomy for transitive maps are proved.
A topological dynamical system $(X,f)$ is said to be multi-transitive if for every $n\in\mathbb{N}$ the system $(X^{n}, f\times f^{2}\times \dotsb\times f^{n})$ is transitive. We introduce the concept of multi-transitivity with respect to a vector and show that multi-transitivity can be characterized by the hitting time sets of open sets, answering a question proposed by Kwietniak and Oprocha [On weak mixing, minimality and weak disjointness of all iterates, Erg. Th. Dynam. Syst., 32 (2012), 1661--1672]. We also show that multi-transitive systems are Li-Yorke chaotic.
Let $f \colon X \to X$ be a continuous map on a compact metric space $X$ and let $α_f$, $ω_f$ and $ICT_f$ denote the set of $α$-limit sets, $ω$-limit sets and nonempty closed internally chain transitive sets respectively. We show that if the map $f$ has shadowing then every element of $ICT_f$ can be approximated (to any prescribed accuracy) by both the $α$-limit set and the $ω$-limit set of a full-trajectory. Furthermore, if $f$ is additionally c-expansive then every element of $ICT_f$ is equal to both the $α$-limit set and the $ω$-limit set of a full-trajectory. In particular this means that …
A {\em singular hyperbolic set} is a partially hyperbolic set with singularities (all hyperbolic) and volume expanding central direction \cite{MPP1}. We study connected, singular-hyperbolic, attracting sets with dense closed orbits {\em and only one singularity}. These sets are shown to be transitive for most $C^r$ flows in the Baire's second category sence. In general these sets are shown to be either transitive or the union of two homoclinic classes. In the later case we prove the existence of finitely many homoclinic classes. Our results generalize for singular-hyperbolic systems a well kno…
There are lots of results to study dynamical complexity on irregular sets and level sets of ergodic average from the perspective of density in base space, Hausdorff dimension, Lebesgue positive measure, positive or full topological entropy (and topological pressure) etc.. However, it is unknown from the viewpoint of chaos. There are lots of results on the relationship of positive topological entropy and various chaos but it is known that positive topological entropy does not imply a strong version of chaos called DC1 so that it is non-trivial to study DC1 on irregular sets and level sets. In t…
Transitivity, the existence of periodic points and positive topological entropy can be used to characterize complexity in dynamical systems. It is known that for graphs that are not trees, for every $\varepsilon>0,$ there exist (complicate) totally transitive maps (then with cofinite set of periods) such that the topological entropy is smaller than $\varepsilon$ (simplicity). First we will show by means of three examples that for any graph that is not a tree the relatively simple maps (with small entropy) which are totally transitive (and hence robustly complicate) can be constructed so that t…
We study orbits and reachable sets of generic couples of Hamiltonians $H_1, H_2$ on a symplectic manifold $N$. We prove that, $C^k$-generically for $k$ large enough, orbits coincide with the whole of $N$, and that the same is true for reachable sets when $N$ is compact. Our results are stated in terms of a strong form of genericity which makes use of the notion of rectifiable subsets of positive codimension in Banach or Frechet spaces.
$\mathbb{N}^* = β\mathbb{N} \setminus \mathbb{N}$ has a canonical dynamical structure provided by the shift map, the unique continuous extension to $β\mathbb{N}$ of the map $n \mapsto n+1$ on $\mathbb{N}$. Here we investigate the question of what dynamical systems can be written as quotients of $\mathbb{N}^*$. We prove that a dynamical system is a quotient of $\mathbb{N}^*$ if and only if it is isomorphic to the $ω$-limit set of some point in some larger system. This provides a full external characterization of the quotients of $\mathbb{N}^*$. We also prove, assuming MA$_{σ\text{-centered}}(κ)…
In this paper, some characterizations about transitivity, mildly mixing property, $\mathbf{a}$-transitivity, equicontinuity, uniform rigidity and proximality of Zadeh's extensions restricted on some invariant closed subsets of the space of all upper semi-continuous fuzzy sets with the level-wise metric are obtained. In particular, it is proved that a dynamical system is weakly mixing (resp., mildly mixing, weakly mixing and $\mathbf{a}$-transitive, equicontinuous, uniformly rigid) if and only if the Zadeh's extension is transitive (resp., mildly mixing, $\mathbf{a}$-transitive, equicontinuous,…
This paper's major purpose is to continue the work of Zhu and Ma[1]. To begin, the $\mathbf{g}$-almost product property, more general irregular and regular sets, and some new notions of the Banach upper density recurrent points and transitive points of free semigroup actions are introduced. Furthermore, under the $\mathbf{g}$-almost product property and other conditions, we coordinate the Banach upper recurrence, transitivity with (ir)regularity, and obtain lots of generalized multifractal analyses for general observable functions of free semigroup actions. Finally, statistical $ω$-limit sets …

For a continuous map f on a compact metric space (X,d), a subset D of X is internally chain transitive if for every x and y in D and every delta > 0 there is a sequence of points {x=x_0,x_1, ...,x_n=y} such that d(f(x_i),x_{i+1}) < delta for i=0,1, ...,n-1. It is known that every omega-limit set is internally chain transitive; in earlier work it was shown that for X a shift of finite type, a closed subset D of X is internally chain transitive if and only if D is an omega-limit set for some point in X, and that the same is also true for the tent map with slope equal to 2. In this paper, we prov…
We give an almost dynamical characterization of inter-model sets with Euclidean internal space. This characterization is similar to previous results for general inter-model sets obtained independently by Baake, Lenz and Moody, and Aujogue. The new ingredients are two additional conditions on the rank of the Abelian group generated by the set of internal difference and a flow on a torus defined via the address map introduced by Lagarias that play the role of the maximal equicontinuous factor in the previous characterizations.
In this paper we characterize $\w$-limit sets of dendritic Julia sets for quadratic maps. We use Baldwin's symbolic representation of these spaces as a non-Hausdorff itinerary space and prove that quadratic maps with dendritic Julia sets have shadowing, and also that for all such maps, a closed invariant set is an $\w$-limit set of a point if, and only if, it is internally chain transitive.
Let $M$ be a model set meeting two simple conditions: (1) the internal space $H$ is a product of $R^n$ and a finite group, and (2) the window $W$ is a finite union of disjoint polyhedra. Then any point pattern with finite local complexity (FLC) that is topologically conjugate to $M$ is mutually locally derivable (MLD) to a model set $M'$ that has the same internal group and window as $M$, but has a different projection from $H \times R^d$ to $R^d$. In cohomological terms, this means that the group $H^1_{an}(M,R)$ of asymptotically negligible classes has dimension $n$. We also exhibit a counter…
