The Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar 3C 279 has been very active since a few years with multiple flaring events occurring at high energies. As part of the H.E.S.S. Target of Opportunity program, 3C 279 was observed multiple times in 2017 and 2018 following high states in optical (February and March 2017) or at high energies as seen with Fermi-LAT (June 2017, January, February and June 2018). While in January 2018 H.E.S.S. detected an unexpected very high energy (VHE) flare at the end of the MeV-GeV flaring state, in June 2018 it was possible to follow almost continuously the decaying part of a strong Fermi-LAT flare, observing with the full array for several nights after the peak of the GeV gamma-ray emission. This has lead to the detection of the source with very high significance. We present here the temporal and spectral results of the H.E.S.S. II dataset together with an overview of the strong multi-wavelength activity seen from 3C 279 between 2017 and 2018.
Flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) are bright active galactic nuclei surrounded by gas clouds within a UV-visible intense radiation field that form the so-called broad line region (BLR). These objects emit relativistic jets from a region close to the central supermassive black hole and through the BLR. The Fermi-Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT) is sensitive to gamma-ray photons from $\sim$30 MeV to more than 300 GeV. We have performed spectral analysis of bright FSRQs in a 5.5 year (2008-2014) data sample collected by Fermi-LAT, using the new Pass 8 event selection and instrument response fun…
The blazar PKS 1510-089 was the first of the flat spectrum radio quasar type, which had been detected simultaneously by a ground based Cherenkov telescope (H.E.S.S.) and the LAT instrument on board the Fermi satellite. Given the strong broad line region emission defining this blazar class, and the resulting high optical depth for VHE ($E>100\,$GeV) $γ$-rays, it was surprising to detect VHE emission from such an object. In May 2015, PKS 1510-089 exhibited high states throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. Target of Opportunity observations with the H.E.S.S. experiment revealed strong and unpr…
Flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) have been detected at TeV energies by ground-based atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes mainly during flaring states. VERITAS is carrying out the first systematic and unbiased search for TeV emissions from a set of FSRQs. Fermi-LAT-detected FSRQs with positive declinations and extrapolated fluxes from the 3FHL catalog exceeding 1$\%$ Crab at >200 GeV after correcting for EBL absorption were selected for this survey, resulting in eight targets. Additionally, four FSRQs that were already detected at TeV energies are also included in this survey. In an unbiased fas…
In this paper, we characterize the first $γ$-ray flaring episode of the FSRQ PKS 0346-27 (z=0.991), as revealed by Fermi-LAT monitoring data, and the concurrent multi-wavelength variability observed from radio through X-rays. The quasi-simultaneous multi-wavelength coverage allowed us to construct time-resolved spectral energy distributions (SEDs). PKS 0346-27 entered an elevated $γ$-ray activity state starting from the beginning of 2018. The high-state continued throughout the year, displaying the highest fluxes in May 2018. We find evidence of short-time scale variability down to $\sim$1.5 h…
Flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) can suffer strong absorption above E = 25/(1+z) GeV, due to gamma-gamma interaction if the emitting region is at sub-parsec scale from the super-massive black hole (SMBH). Gamma-ray flares from these astrophysical sources can investigate the location of the high-energy emission region and the physics of the radiating processes. We present a remarkable gamma-ray flaring activity from FSRQ PKS 2023-07 during April 2016, as detected by both AGILE and Fermi satellites. An intensive multi-wavelength campaign, triggered by Swift, covered the entire duration of the…
The flat spectrum radio quasar (FSRQ) PKS 1510-089 (z=0.361) is known for its complex multiwavelength behavior. It has been monitored regularly at very high energy (VHE, $E>100\,$GeV) gamma-rays with H.E.S.S. since its discovery in 2009 in order to study the unknown behavior of FSRQs in quiescence at VHE, as well as the flux evolution around flaring events. Given the expected strong cooling of electrons and the absorption of VHE emission within the broad-line region, a detection of PKS 1510-089 at VHE in a quiescent state would be an important result, implying an acceleration and emission regi…
We perform a detailed spectral study of a recent flaring activity from the Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar (FSRQ), 3C\,454.3, observed simultaneously in optical, UV, X-ray and $γ$-ray energies during 16 to 28 August, 2015. The source reached its peak $γ$-ray flux of $(1.9\pm0.2)\times\,10^{-05} \; {\rm ph\,cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$ on 22 August. The time averaged broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) is obtained for three time periods, namely "flaring state"; covering the peak $γ$-ray flux, "post flaring state"; immediately following the peak flare and "quiescent state"; separated from the flaring e…
With the installation of a new 28-m diameter imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope in the middle of the array, the H.E.S.S. instrument has entered since 2012 into its Phase II. The fifth large-size telescope is particularly important to lower the threshold energy of the array, and is thus a unique instrument to observe low-frequency-peaked blazars, such as flat-spectrum radio-quasars (FSRQs), which remain rare in the very-high- energy (VHE; E $>$ 100 GeV) $γ$-ray domain. In this contribution, we report on the discovery with the H.E.S.S. telescopes of VHE $γ$-ray emission from the FSRQ PKS 07…
Within the classical emission model, where the emission region is placed within the broad line region (BLR), flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) were believed not to emit photons with energies above few tens of GeV because of the absorption with the optical-UV photons from the BLR. However, photons with observed energies up to about $300 \, \rm GeV$ have been detected for few FSRQs, whose most iconic example is PKS 1441+25 at redshift $z = 0.94$. The most conservative explanation for these observations is that the emission occurs at distances comparable to the size of the dusty torus. In this …
The origin of the multi-band activities (outbursts/flares) of blazars is still a heavily debated topic. Shock and magnetic reconnection have long been considered as possible triggers for the multi-band activities. In this paper, we present an exploration of the origin of multi-band activities for a high-redshift (z =1.8385) FSRQ PKS 1502+106. Utilizing multi-band data from radio to $γ$-ray and optical polarization observations, we investigate two dramatic activities in detail: a $γ$-ray dominated outburst in 2015 and an optical dominated outburst in 2017. Our main results are as follows. (I) A…
We analyze the 2.5--10 keV X-ray spectra of the luminous quasar 3C 273 and simultaneous observations in UV wavelengths from XMM--Newton between 2000 and 2015. The lowest flux level ever was observed in 2015. The continuum emission from 3C 273 is generally best described by an absorbed power-law but during extremely low states the addition of fluorescence from the K-shell iron line improves the fit. We study the spectral evolution of the source during its extended quiescent state and also examine connections between the X-ray and ultraviolet emissions, which have been seen in some, but not all,…
We present multiwavelength observations and a model for flat spectrum radio quasar NVSS J141922-083830, originally classified as a blazar candidate of unknown type (BCU II object) in the Third Fermi-LAT AGN Catalog (3LAC). Relatively bright flares (>3 magnitudes) were observed on 21 February 2015 (MJD 57074) and 8 September 2018 (MJD 58369) in the optical band with the MASTER Global Robotic Net (MASTER-Net) telescopes. Optical spectra obtained with the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) on 1 March 2015 (MJD 57082), during outburst, and on 30 May 2017 (MJD 57903), during quiescence, showed…
Flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) are the most luminous blazars at GeV energies, but only rarely emit detectable fluxes of TeV gamma rays, typically during bright GeV flares. We explore the gamma-ray variability and spectral characteristics of three FSRQs that have been observed at GeV and TeV energies by Fermi-LAT and VERITAS, making use of almost 100 hours of VERITAS observations spread over 10 years: 3C 279, PKS 1222+216, and Ton 599. We explain the GeV flux distributions of the sources in terms of a model derived from a stochastic differential equation describing fluctuations in the magn…
The detection of a high energy muon neutrino on 22 September 2017 by IceCube neutrino detector coincides with the multiwavelength flaring from the BL Lac object TXS 0506+056, most likely confirming AGN as a source of high energy cosmic rays and neutrinos. Using the photohadronic model, we have explained the very high energy $γ$-rays observed by MAGIC telescopes few days after the neutrino event and extend the model to calculate the neutrino flux at different windows consistent with the flaring period of TXS 0506+056 and compared with the IceCube and MAGIC estimates. We also use this model to e…
Aims: In this work, we analyse the multiwavelength brightness variations and flaring activity of FSRQ PKS1510-089, aiming to constrain the position of the emission sources. Methods: We report 7 mm (43 GHz) radio and R-band polarimetric observations of PKS1510-089. The radio observations were performed at the Itapetinga Radio Observatory, while the polarimetric data were obtained at the Pico dos Dias Observatory. The 7 mm observations cover the period between 2011 and 2013, while the optical polarimetric observations were made between 2009 and 2012. Results: At 7 mm, we detected a correlation b…
Recently, Fermi-LAT detected GeV emission during the X-ray flaring activity in GRB 100728A. We study various scenarios for its origin. The hard spectrum of the GeV emission favors the external inverse-Compton origin in which X-ray flare photons are up-scattered by relativistic electrons in the external forward shock. This external IC scenario, with anisotropic scattering effect taken into account, can reproduce the temporal and spectral properties of the GeV emission in GRB 100728A.
In this work, we have searched quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in the 15 GHz light curve of the FSRQ PKS J0805-0111 monitored by the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) 40 m telescope during the period from January 9,2008 to May 9,2019, using the weighted wavelet Z-transform (WWZ) and the Lomb-Scargle Periodogram (LSP) techniques. This is the first time to search for periodic radio signal in the FSRQ PKS J0805-0111 by these two methods. All two methods consistently reveal a repeating signal with a periodicity of 3.38$\pm$ 0.8 years ($>$99.7\% confidence level). In order to determining the…
This work reports the first discovery of (negative) spectral lags in the X-ray emission below 10 keV from the gamma ray binary $LSI +61^{o} $ 303 during large flaring episodes using the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) observations. It is found from the RXTE data that during the flares, low energy (3-5 KeV) variations lead the higher energy (8-10 keV) variations by few tens of seconds whereas no significant time lag is observed during the non-flaring states. The observed spectral lag features for flaring events suggest that inverse Compton scattering may be operative, at least in some part o…
We continue the analysis of NuSTAR data from the recent discovery outburst of MAXI J1820+070 (optical counterpart ASASSN-18ey), focussing on an observation including unusual flaring behaviour during the hard to soft state transition, which is a short phase of outbursts and so comparatively rarely observed. Two plateaus in flux are separated by a variable interval lasting ~10 ks, which shows dipping then flaring stages. The variability is strongest (with fractional variability up to $F_{\rm Var}\sim10\%$) at high energies and reduces as the contribution from disc emission becomes stronger. Flux…
We present a detailed investigation of the flaring activity observed from a BL Lac object, S5 0716+714 , during its brightest ever optical state in the second half of January 2015. Observed almost simultaneously in the optical, X-rays and γ-rays, a significant change in the degree of optical polarization (PD) and a swing in the position angle (PA) of polarization were recorded. A detection in the TeV (VHE) was also reported by the MAGIC consortium during this flaring episode. Two prominent sub-flares, peaking about 5-days apart, were seen in almost all the energy bands. The multi-wavelength li…
We present the simultaneous Swift and Fermi observations of the bright GRB100728A and its afterglow. The early X-ray emission is dominated by a vigorous flaring activity continuing until 1 ks after the burst. In the same time interval high energy emission is significantly detected by the Fermi/LAT. Marginal evidence of GeV emission is observed up to later times. We discuss the broadband properties of this burst within both the internal and external shock scenarios, with a particular emphasis on the relation between X-ray flares, the GeV emission and a continued long-duration central engine act…
The gamma-ray emission offers a powerful diagnostic tool to probe jets and their surroundings in flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQ). In particular, sources emitting at high energies (>10 GeV) give us the strongest constraints. This motivates us to start a systematic study of flares with bright emission above 10 GeV, examining archival data of Fermi-LAT gamma-ray telescope. At the same time, we began to trigger Target of Opportunity observations to the Swift observatory at the occurrence of high-energy flares, obtaining a wide coverage of the spectral energy distributions for several FSRQs duri…
We investigate rapid TeV flaring in markarian 501 in the frame of a time-dependent one-zone synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) model. Inthis model, electrons are accelerated to extra-relativistic energy through the stochastic particle acceleration and evolve with the time, nonthermal photons are produced by both synchrotron and inverse Comtpon scattering off synchrotron photons. Moreover, nonthermal photons during a pre-flare are produced by the relativistic electrons in the steady state and those during a flare are produced by the electrons whose injection rate is changed at some time interval. W…
We report the AGILE gamma-ray observations and the results of the multiwavelength campaigns on seven flaring blazars detected by the mission: During two multiwavelength campaigns, we observed gamma-ray activity from two Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars of the Virgo region, e.g. 3C 279 and 3C 273 (the latter being the first extragalactic source simultaneously observed with the gamma-ray telescope and the hard X ray imager of the mission). Due to the large FOV of the AGILE/GRID instrument, we achieved an almost continuous coverage of the FSRQ 3C 454.3. The source showed flux above 10E-6 photons/cm2/s…
Observations at Very High Energies (VHE, E > 100 GeV) of the BL Lac object Mrk 501 taken with the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) in four distinct periods between 2004 and 2014 are presented, with focus on the 2012 and 2014 flaring states. The source is detected with high significance above $\sim$ 2 TeV in $\sim$ 13.1 h livetime. The observations comprise low flux states and strong flaring events, which in 2014 show a flux level comparable to the 1997 historical maximum. Such high flux states enable spectral variability and flux variability studies down to a timescale of four minute…
We present here results from the X-ray timing and spectral analysis of the X-ray binary Cyg X-3 using observations from Large Area X-ray Proportional Counter (LAXPC) on-board AstroSat. Consecutive lightcurves observed over a period of one year show the binary orbital period of 17253.56 +/- 0.19 sec. Another low-amplitude, slow periodicity of the order of 35.8 +/- 1.4 days is observed which may be due to the orbital precession as suggested earlier by Molteni et al. (1980). During the rising binary phase, power density spectra from different observations during flaring hard X-ray state show quas…
Aim : The nearby TeV blazar 1ES 1959+650 (z=0.047) was reported to be in flaring state during June - July 2016 by Fermi-LAT, FACT, MAGIC and VERITAS collaborations. We studied the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) in different states of the flare during MJD 57530 - 57589 using simultaneous multiwaveband data to understand the possible broadband emission scenario during the flare. Methods : The UV/optical and X-ray data from UVOT and XRT respectively on board Swift and high energy $γ$-ray data from Fermi-LAT are used to generate multiwaveband lightcurves as well as to obtain high flux states…
The blazar OQ 334 displayed a γ-ray flare in 2018, after being in the long quiescent γ-ray state since 2008. Subsequent to the flare, the source was in a higher γ-ray flux state and again flared in 2020. We present here the first spectral and timing analysis of the source at its various flaring states. During the higher γ-ray state, we found four major peaks identified as P1, P2, P3, and P4. From timing analysis, we found the rise and decay time of the order of hours with the fastest variability time of 9.01+/-0.78 hr. We found the highest γ-ray photon of 77 GeV during P4, which suggests the l…
The flat spectrum radio quasar CTA 102 entered an extended period of activity from 2016 to 2017 during which several strong $γ$-ray flares were observed. Using Fermi large area telescope data a detailed investigation of \gray spectra of CTA 102 during the flaring period is performed. In several periods the \gray spectrum is not consistent with a simple power-law, having a hard photon index with an index of $\sim(1.8-2.0)$ that shows a spectral cutoff around an observed photon energy of $\sim(9-16)$ GeV. The internal $γ$-ray absorption via photon-photon pair production on the broad-line-region-…
Recently, in a study the X-ray flaring activity of Sgr A* with Chandra and XMM-Newton public observations from 1999 to 2014 and 2014 Swift data, it has been argued that the "bright and very bright" flaring rate raised from 2014 Aug. 31. Thanks to 482ks of observations performed in 2015 with Chandra, XMM-Newton and Swift, we test the significance of this rise of flaring rate and determine the threshold of unabsorbed flare flux or fluence leading to any flaring-rate change. The mean unabsorbed fluxes of the 107 flares detected in the 1999-2015 observations are consistently computed from the extr…
We present the results of the X-ray flaring activity of 1ES 1959+650 during October 25-26, 2017 using AstroSat observations. The source was variable in the X-ray. We investigated the evolution of the X-ray spectral properties of the source by dividing the total observation period ($\sim 130$ ksecs) into time segments of 5 ksecs, and fitting the SXT and LAXPC spectra for each segment. Synchrotron emission of a broken power-law particle density model provided a better fit than the log-parabola one. The X-ray flux and the normalised particle density at an energy less than the break one, were foun…
In June 2015, the Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar 3C 279 underwent an extremely bright gamma-ray flare, with an increase of the flux above 100 MeV by a factor 10 in less than 1 day, revealing an intrinsic variability timescale of 2 minutes as detected by the Fermi-LAT. We present results of target of opportunity observations with the H.E.S.S. experiment on this source over the nights around the peak of the outburst. The H.E.S.S. data were analysed with mono and stereo chains. Thanks to the extreme brightness of the source at GeV energies, it was possible to obtain data from Fermi-LAT, strictly simu…
The TeV blazar Markarian 421 underwent multi-TeV flaring during April 2004 and simultaneously observed in x-ray and TeV energies. It was observed that the TeV outbursts had no counterparts in the lower energies, which implies that this might be an orphan flare. In the context of hadronic model, we have shown that this multi-TeV flaring can be produced due to the interaction of Fermi-accelerated protons of energy $\lesssim 168$ TeV with the background photons in the low energy tail of the synchrotron self-Compton spectrum of the blazar jet. We fit very well the flaring spectrum with this model.…
Markarian 421 is one of the brightest BL-Lac objects in gamma-rays in the northern hemisphere. Because of its brightness, the source has been the focus of several coordinated multi-wavelength (MWL) campaigns designed to study the physical processes responsible for the non-thermal continuum emission. The blazar monitoring program of VERITAS recently received a ToO during a strong flaring event by Markarian 421 in February 2010. The source was seen at flux level of approximately 8 Crab units and exhibited spectral evolution and variability features. A multi-wavelength campaign with other MWL par…
We present $γ$-ray, X-ray, ultraviolet, optical, and near-infrared light curves of 33 $γ$-ray bright blazars over four years that we have been monitoring since 2008 August with multiple optical, ground-based telescopes and the Swift satellite, and augmented by data from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and other publicly available data from Swift. The sample consists of 21 flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and 12 BL Lac objects (BL Lacs). We identify quiescent and active states of the sources based on their $γ$-ray behavior. We derive $γ$-ray, X-ray, and optical spectral indices, $α_γ$, $…
We present analysis of 100 ks contiguous XMM-Newton data of the prototypical wind accretor Vela X-1. The observation covered eclipse egress between orbital phases 0.134 and 0.265, during which a giant flare took place, enabling us to study the spectral properties both outside and during the flare. This giant flare with a peak luminosity of $3.92^{+0.42}_{-0.09} \times 10^{37}$ erg s$^{-1}$ allows estimates of the physical parameters of the accreted structure with a mass of $\sim$ $10^{21}$ g. We have been able to model several contributions to the observed spectrum with a phenomenological mode…
We present a systematic characterization of multi-wavelength emission from blazar PKS 1510-089 using well-sampled data at infrared(IR)-optical, X-ray and $γ$-ray energies. The resulting flux distributions, except at X-rays, show two distinct lognormal profiles corresponding to a high and a low flux level. The dispersions exhibit energy dependent behavior except for the LAT $γ$-ray and optical B-band. During the low level flux states, it is higher towards the peak of the spectral energy distribution, with $γ$-ray being intrinsically more variable followed by IR and then optical, consistent with…
In this work, we study the short term flaring activity from the high synchrotron peaked blazar Mrk 501 detected by the FACT and H.E.S.S. telescopes in the energy range 2-20 TeV during June 23-24, 2014 (MJD 56831.86-56831.94). We revisit this major TeV flare of the source in the context of near simultaneous multi-wavelength observations of gamma-rays in MeV-GeV regime with Fermi-LAT, soft X-rays in 0.3-10 keV range with Swift-XRT, hard X-rays in 10-20 keV and 15-50 keV bands with MAXI and Swift-BAT respectively, UV-Optical with Swift-UVOT and 15 GHz radio with OVRO telescope. We have performed …
We report the discovery of a flaring X-ray source in the globular cluster NGC 6540, obtained during the EXTraS project devoted to a systematic search for variability in archival data of the XMM-Newton satellite. The source had a quiescent X-ray luminosity of the order of ~10^32 erg/s in the 0.5-10 keV range (for a distance of NGC 6540 of 4 kpc) and showed a flare lasting about 300 s. During the flare, the X-ray luminosity increased by more than a factor 40, with a total emitted energy of ~10^36 erg. These properties, as well as Hubble Space Telescope photometry of the possible optical counterp…
The evolution of the spectral energy distribution during flares constrains models of particle acceleration in blazar jets. The archetypical blazar BL Lac provided a unique opportunity to study spectral variations during an extended strong flaring episode from 2020-2021. During its brightest $γ$-ray state, the observed flux (0.1-300 GeV) reached up to $2.15\,\times\,10^{-5}\,\rm{ph\,cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$, with sub-hour scale variability. The synchrotron hump extended into the X-ray regime showing a minute-scale flare with an associated peak shift of inverse-Compton hump in gamma-rays. In shock acce…
Starting in 2006, Swift has been targeting a region of ~21'X21' around Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) with the onboard X-ray telescope. The short, quasi-daily observations offer an unique view of the long-term X-ray behavior of the supermassive black hole. We report on the data obtained between 2006 February and 2011 October, which encompasses 715 observations with a total accumulated exposure time of ~0.8 Ms. A total of six X-ray flares were detected with Swift, which all had an average 2-10 keV luminosity of Lx (1-4)E35 erg/s (assuming a distance of 8 kpc). This more than doubles the number of such…
We present observations of rapid (sub-second) optical flux variability in V404 Cyg during its 2015 June outburst. Simultaneous three-band observations with the ULTRACAM fast imager on four nights show steep power spectra dominated by slow variations on ~100-1000s timescales. Near the peak of the outburst on June 26, a dramatic change occurs and additional, persistent sub-second optical flaring appears close in time to giant radio and X-ray flaring. The flares reach peak optical luminosities of ~few x 10^{36} erg/s. Some are unresolved down to a time resolution of 24 milliseconds. Whereas the f…
Accreting white dwarfs in binary systems known as cataclysmic variables (CVs) have in recent years been shown to produce radio flares during outbursts, qualitatively similar to those observed from neutron star and black hole X-ray binaries, but their ubiquity and energetic significance for the accretion flow has remained uncertain. We present new radio observations of the CV SS Cyg with Arcminute Microkelvin Imager Large Array, which show for the second time late-ouburst radio flaring, in April 2016. This flaring occurs during the optical flux decay phase, about ten days after the well-establi…
The high-synchrotron-peaked blazar 1ES 1959+650 was among the first extragalactic sources detected in the very high energy gamma ray band (VHE, E > 100 GeV). In October 2015, the source entered an extended period of activity that continued through July 2016, during which several strong VHE flares were observed. This flaring activity in the TeV band was accompanied by a strong increase in the optical, X-ray, and GeV gamma-ray flux of the source, surpassing its brightest recorded flux states. The VERITAS telescope array performed observations of 1ES 1959+650 between October 2015 and June 2016, a…
We report the results from our study of the blazar S5 1803+784 carried out using the quasi-simultaneous $B$, $V$, $R$, and $I$ observations from May 2020 to July 2021 on 122 nights. Our observing campaign detected the historically bright optical flare during MJD 59063.5$-$MJD 59120.5. We also found the source in its brightest ($R_{mag}$= 13.617) and faintest ($R_{mag}$= 15.888) states till date. On 13 nights, covering both flaring and non-flaring periods, we searched for the intraday variability using the power-enhanced $F-$test and the nested ANOVA test. We found significant variability in 2 …
The high-energy-peaked blazar 1ES 1959+650 is a well-known and well studied nearby blazar that has undergone several episodes of multi-TeV flaring. In 2002 for the first time an orphan TeV flare was observed from this blazar. During a multiwavelength campaign between 29th April to 21st November 2016, MAGIC telescopes observed multi-TeV flarings during the nights of 13th, 14th June and 1st July 2016 when the position of the synchrotron peak was found to be above $10^{17}$ Hz. Also observed was that the second peak of the spectral energy distribution shifted towards higher energy, and exhibiting…
We present results of spectrometric studies based on the observations of very strong 3C 279 flares in high and very-high-energy bands and discuss their implications regarding the origin of radiation mechanisms. The FSRQ 3C 279 (z=0.536) is one of the most luminous gamma-ray emitting AGN. It shows variability on time scales down to minutes during strong flares detected by the Fermi-LAT. We have analyzed LAT and Swift-XRT data for the flaring periods in June 2015 and January 2018, when the flux above 100 MeV during hourly time intervals could exceed $3 \times 10^{-5}$ ph cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. The …
We present measurements of rotations of the optical polarization of blazars during the second year of operation of RoboPol, a monitoring programme of an unbiased sample of gamma-ray bright blazars specially designed for effective detection of such events, and we analyse the large set of rotation events discovered in two years of observation. We investigate patterns of variability in the polarization parameters and total flux density during the rotation events and compare them to the behaviour in a non-rotating state. We have searched for possible correlations between average parameters of the …
