Entanglement can be considered as a special quantum correlation, but not the only kind. Even for a separable quantum system, it is allowed to exist non-classical correlations. Here we propose two dissipative schemes for generating a maximally correlated state of two qubits in the absence of quantum entanglement, which was raised by [F. Galve, G. L. Giorgi, and R. Zambrini, {\color{blue}Phys. Rev. A {\bf 83}, 012102 (2011)}]. These protocols take full advantages of the interaction between four-level atoms and strongly lossy optical cavities. In the first scenario, we alternatively change the phases of two classical driving fields, while the second proposal introduces a strongly lossy coupled-cavity system. Both schemes can realize all Lindblad terms required by the dissipative dynamics, guaranteeing the maximally quantum dissonant state to be the unique steady state for a certain subspace of system. Moreover, since the target state is a mixed state, the performance of our method is evaluated by the definition of super-fidelity $G(ρ_{1},ρ_{2})$, and the strictly numerical simulations indicate that fidelity outstripping $99\%$ of the quantum dissonant state is achievable with the current cavity quantum electrodynamics parameters.
We introduce a proposal to prepare spin-obit maximally discordant mixed states by a linear optical circuit, with quantum bits (qubits) encoded in the polarization and transverse mode degrees of freedom of photons. In particular, we discuss how to prepare non-balanced spin-orbit entangled states, applying this technique to obtain maximally discordant mixed states. We present a simulation of the optical circuit by using the Jones matrix formalism. We performed a study of entanglement, classical and quantum correlations. The results show excellent agreement with the underlying theory and open a n…
We have investigated the dynamics of quantum discord and entanglement for two qubits subject to independent global transverse and/or longitudinal memoryless noisy classical fields. Global transverse and/or longitudinal random fields are found to drive the system to maximally discordant mixed separable steady states for suitable initial conditions. Moreover, two independent noises in the system are found to enhance both the steady state randomness and quantum discord in the absence of entanglement for some initial states.
In a recent article S. Gharibian [\href{http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevA.86.042106}{Phys. Rev. A {\bf 86}, 042106 (2012)}] has conjectured that no two qubit separable state of rank greater than two could be maximally non classical (defined to be those which have normalized geometric discord $1/4$) and asked for an analytic proof. In this work we prove analytically that among the subclass of $X$ states, there is a unique (up to local unitary equivalence) maximal separable state of rank two. Partial progress has been made towards the general problem and some necessary conditions have been deri…
We study the relative strength of classical and quantum correlations, as measured by discord, for two-qubit states. Quantum correlations appear only in the presence of classical correlations, while the reverse is not always true. We identify the family of states that maximize the discord for a given value of the classical correlations and show that the largest attainable discord for mixed states is greater than for pure states. The difference between discord and entanglement is emphasized by the remarkable fact that these states do not maximize entanglement and are, in some cases, even separab…
We present a three-cavity network model with two modes in each cavity and a non-linear medium that generates a Kerr type interaction via both self-phase and cross-phase modulation processes. We have two main goals. The first one is to generate a multipartite Maximally Entangled State (MES), starting from the ground state of the system. We address the problem both without and with dissipation. Secondly, we want to protect the MES from decoherence. While studying the MES, we analyze different bipartite and multipartite entanglement measures. We also study the effect of an Avoided Level Crossing …
The quantumness of a generic state is the resource of many applications in quantum information theory and it is interesting to survey the measures which are able to detect its trace in the properties of the state. In this work we study the quantum discord and fully entangled fraction of two classes of bipartite states and compare their behaviors. These classes are complements to the $d\otimes d$ Werner and isotropic states, in the sense that each class possesses the same purification as the corresponding complemental class of states. Our results show that maximally entangled mixed states are a…
Entanglement generation can be robust against noise in approaches that deliberately incorporate dissipation into the system dynamics. The presence of additional dissipation channels may, however, limit fidelity and speed of the process. Here we show how quantum optimal control techniques can be used to both speed up the entanglement generation and increase the fidelity in a realistic setup, whilst respecting typical experimental limitations. For the example of entangling two trapped ion qubits [Lin et al., Nature 504, 415 (2013)], we find an improved fidelity by simply optimizing the polarizat…
Given any two quantum states $ρ$ and $σ$ in Hilbert spaces of equal dimension satisfying the majorization condition $ρ\succ σ$, it is always possible to transform $ρ\mapsto σ$ by a unital quantum map. In fact, any such transformation can be achieved just by means of noisy operations, i.e., by access to maximally mixed ancillary states and unitary transformations that act jointly in the system-ancilla space. Here, we investigate the possible transitions between states (i.e., the induced preorder of states) when one restricts the unitary control to the quantum system alone and replaces the maxim…
Inspired by recent work [A. W. Carr and M. Saffman, Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 033607 (2013)], we propose a simplified scheme to prepare the two-atom maximally entangled states via dissipative Rydberg pumping. Compared with the former scheme, the simplified one involves less classical laser fields and Rydberg interactions, and the asymmetric Rydberg interactions are avoided. Master equation simulations demonstrate that the fidelity and the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt correlation of the maximally entangled state could reach up to 0.999 and 2.821, respectively, under certain conditions. Furthermore, w…
The dynamics of two two-level dipole-dipole interacting atoms coupled to a common electromagnetic bath and closely located inside a lossy cavity, is reported. Initially injecting only one excitation in the two atoms-cavity system, loss mechanisms asymptotically drive the matter sample toward a stationary maximally entangled state. The role played by the closeness of the two atoms with respect to such a cooperative behaviour is carefully discussed. Stationary radiation trapping effects are found and transparently interpreted.
A novel scheme is proposed to generate a maximally entangled state between two qubits by means of a dissipation-driven process. To this end, we entangle the quantum states of qubits that are mutually coupled by a plasmonic nanoantenna. Upon enforcing a weak spectral asymmetry in the properties of the qubits, the steady-state probability to obtain a maximally entangled, subradiant state approaches unity. This occurs despite the high losses associated to the plasmonic nanoantenna that are usually considered as being detrimental. The entanglement scheme is shown to be quite robust against variati…
We propose a dissipative method for preparation of a maximally entangled steady state of two trapped ions in the Lamb-Dicke limit. By addressing the trapped-ion system with a monochromatic standing wave laser pulse of frequency resonant with the ionic transition and a microwave field coupled to the ground-state transitions, we obtain an effective coupling between two particles, which is independent of the phonon-number fluctuations. Meanwhile, the controlled spontaneous emission of trapped ions is implemented via pumping the metastable states upwards to the short-lived ionic states by an auxil…
We propose a dissipation engineering scheme that prepares and protects a maximally entangled state of a pair of superconducting qubits. This is done by off-resonantly coupling the two qubits to a low-Q cavity mode playing the role of a dissipative reservoir. We engineer this coupling by applying six continuous-wave microwave drives with appropriate frequencies. The two qubits need not be identical. We show that our approach does not require any fine-tuning of the parameters and requires only that certain ratios between them be large. With currently achievable coherence times, simulations indic…
Schemes for optical-state truncation of two cavity modes are analysed. The systems, referred to as the nonlinear quantum scissors devices, comprise two coupled nonlinear oscillators (Kerr nonlinear coupler) with one or two of them pumped by external classical fields. It is shown that the quantum evolution of the pumped couplers can be closed in a two-qubit Hilbert space spanned by vacuum and single-photon states only. Thus, the pumped couplers can behave as a two-qubit system. Analysis of time evolution of the quantum entanglement shows that Bell states can be generated. A possible implementat…
A novel scheme is proposed for dissipative generation of maximally entanglement between two Rydberg atoms in the context of cavity QED. The spontaneous emission of atoms combined with quantum Zeno dynamics and Rydberg antiblockade guarantees a unique steady solution of the master equation of system, which just corresponds to the antisymmetric Bell state $|S\rangle$. The convergence rate is accelerated by the ground-state blockade mechanism of Rydberg atoms. Meanwhile the effect of cavity decay is suppressed by the Zeno requirement, leading to a steady-state fidelity about $90\%$ as the single-…
We present a scheme for the dissipative preparation of an entangled steady state of two superconducting qubits in a circuit QED setup. Combining resonator photon loss, a dissipative process already present in the setup, with an effective two-photon microwave drive, we engineer an effective decay mechanism which prepares a maximally entangled state of the two qubits. This state is then maintained as the steady state of the driven, dissipative evolution. The performance of the dissipative state preparation protocol is studied analytically and verified numerically. In view of the experimental imp…
We present solutions of the time dependent Schrodinger equation for a SQUID ring coupled to an electromagnetic field, both treated quantum mechanically. We that show the SQUID ring can be used to create a maximally entangled state with the em field that without dissipation remains constant in time. Using methods familiar in quantum optics, we extend the model to include the effects of coupling this system to a dissipative environment. With this model we show that although such an environment makes a noticeable difference to the time evolution of the system, it need not destroy the the entangle…
In this paper, we investigate the possibility of the entanglement swapping between two independent nonperfect cavities consisting of an atom with finite lifetime of atomic levels (as two independent sources of dissipation) which interacts with a quantized electromagnetic field in the presence of detuning and Kerr medium. In fact, there is no direct interaction between the two atoms, therefore, no entanglement exists between them. We use the Bell state measurement performing on the photons leaving the cavities to swap the entanglement stored between the atom-fields in each cavity into atom-atom…
Driven dissipative steady state entanglement schemes take advantage of coupling to the environment to robustly prepare highly entangled states. We present a scheme for two trapped ions to generate a maximally entangled steady state with fidelity above 0.99, appropriate for use in quantum protocols. Furthermore, we extend the scheme by introducing detection of our dissipation process, significantly enhancing the fidelity. Our scheme is robust to anomalous heating and requires no sympathetic cooling.
Entangled states are a key resource in fundamental quantum physics, quantum cryp-tography, and quantum computation [1].To date, controlled unitary interactions applied to a quantum system, so-called "quantum gates", have been the most widely used method to deterministically create entanglement [2]. These processes require high-fidelity state preparation as well as minimizing the decoherence that inevitably arises from coupling between the system and the environment and imperfect control of the system parameters. Here, on the contrary, we combine unitary processes with engineered dissipation to…
Established methods for dissipative state preparation typically rely on resolving resonances, limiting the target state fidelity due to competition between the stabilization mechanism and uncontrolled dissipation. We propose a protocol devoid of such constraints, using parametric couplings to engineer dissipation for preparation of any maximally entangled two-qubit state. Our scheme allows high-fidelity entanglement generation with short convergence time, continuous control of the target state in the stabilized manifold, and is realizable with state-of-the-art superconducting qubit technology.
Maximally entangled two-qubit states (Bell states) are of central importance in quantum technologies. We show that heralded generation of a maximally entangled state of two intrinsically open qubits can be realized in a one-dimensional (1d) system through strong coherent driving and continuous monitoring. In contrast to the natural idea that dissipation leads to decoherence and so destroys quantum effects, continuous measurement and strong interference in our 1d system generate a pure state with perfect quantum correlation between the two open qubits. Though the steady state is a trivial produ…
We discuss the generation of states close to the boundary-family of maximally entangled mixed states as defined by the use of concurrence and linear entropy. The coupling of two qubits to a dissipation-affected bosonic mode is able to produce a bipartite state having, for all practical purposes, the entanglement and purity properties of one of such boundary states. We thoroughly study the effects that thermal and squeezed character of the bosonic mode have in such a process and we discuss tolerance to qubit phase-damping mechanisms. The non-demanding nature of the scheme makes it realizable in…
We study the problem of optimal control of dissipative quantum dynamics. Although under most circumstances dissipation leads to an increase in entropy (or a decrease in purity) of the system, there is an important class of problems for which dissipation with external control can decrease the entropy (or increase the purity) of the system. An important example is laser cooling. In such systems, there is an interplay of the Hamiltonian part of the dynamics, which is controllable and the dissipative part of the dynamics, which is uncontrollable. The strategy is to control the Hamiltonian portion …
Giant atoms are a new paradigm of quantum optics going beyond the usual local coupling. Building on this, a new type of decoherence-free (DF) many-body Hamiltonians was shown in a broadband waveguide. Here, these are incorporated in a general framework (not relying on master equations) and contrasted to dispersive DF Hamiltonians with normal atoms: the two schemes are shown to correspond to qualitatively different ways to match the same general condition for suppressing decoherence. Next, we map the giant atoms dynamics into a cascaded collision model (CM), providing an intuitive interpretatio…
In this paper we want to investigate the possibility of transferring entanglement to two three-level separable atomic states over large distance using the quantum repeater protocol. In detail, our model consists of eight three-level atoms where only the pairs (1,2), (3,4), (5,6) and (7,8) are prepared in maximally entangled states. Performing suitable interaction between non-entangled three-level atoms (2,3) and (6,7) in two-mode cavities with photon leakage rates in the presence of spontaneous emission leads to producing entanglement between atoms (1,4) and (5,8), separately. Finally, the ent…
We present a way to transfer maximally- or partially-entangled states of n single-photon-state (SPS) qubits onto n coherent-state (CS) qubits, by employing 2n microwave cavities coupled to a superconducting flux qutrit. The two logic states of a SPS qubit here are represented by the vacuum state and the single-photon state of a cavity, while the two logic states of a CS qubit are encoded with two coherent states of a cavity. Because of using only one superconducting qutrit as the coupler, the circuit architecture is significantly simplified. The operation time for the state transfer does not i…
Understanding the mechanism through which an open quantum system exchanges information with an environment is central to the creation and stabilization of quantum states. This theme has been explored recently, with attention mostly focused on system control or environment engineering. Here, we bring these ideas together to describe the many-body dynamics of an extended atomic array coupled to a squeezed vacuum. We show that fluctuations can drive the array into a pure dark state decoupled from the environment. The dark state is obtained for an even number of atoms and consists of maximally ent…
We propose a scheme for generation of maximally entangled states involving internal electronic degrees of freedom of two distant trapped ions, each of them located in a cavity. This is achieved by using a single flying atom to distribute entanglement. For certain specific interaction times, the proposed scheme leads to the non-probabilistic generation of a perfect Bell-type state. At the end of the protocol, the flying atom completely disentangles from the rest of the system, leaving both ions in a Bell-type state. Moreover, the scheme is insensitive to the cavity field state and cavity losses…
In contrast to classical systems, actual implementation of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian dynamics for quantum systems is a challenge because the processes of energy gain and dissipation are based on the underlying Hermitian system-environment dynamics that is trace preserving. Recently, a scheme for engineering non-Hermitian Hamiltonians as a result of repetitive measurements on an anicillary qubit has been proposed. The induced conditional dynamics of the main system is described by the effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian arisng from the procedure. In this paper we demonstrate the effectiveness o…
By implementing a quantum repeater protocol, our aim in this paper is the production of entanglement between two two-level atoms locating far from each other. To make our model close to experimental realizations, the atomic and field sources of dissipations are also taken into account. We consider eight of such atoms (1, 2, ..., 8) sequentially located in a line which begins (ends) with atom 1 (8). We suppose that, initially the four atomic pairs (i; i + 1), i = 1; 3; 5; 7 are mutually prepared in maximally entangled states. Clearly, the atoms 1; 8, the furthest atoms which we want to entangle…
The maximally entangled states are excellent candidates for achieving Heisenberg-limited measurements in ideal quantum metrology, however, they are fragile against dissipation such as particle losses and their achievable precisions may become even worse than the standard quantum limit (SQL). Here we present a robust high-precision measurement scheme via spin cat states (a kind of non-Gaussian entangled states in superposition of two spin coherent states) in the presence of particle losses. The input spin cat states are of excellent robustness against particle losses and their achievable precis…
