At the high luminosity electron-positron circular colliders like FCC-ee in CERN and CEPC in China it will possible to measure very precisely $e^+e^-\to Zγ$ process with subsequent Z decay into particles invisible in the detector, that is into three neutrina of the Standard Model and possibly into other weakly coupled neutral particles. Apart from the measurement of the total invisible width (which is not the main subject of this work) this process may be used as a source of $Z$ coupling to electron neutrino -- known very poorly. This is possible due to the presence of the $t$-channel $W$ exchange in the $e^+e^-\to ν_e \barν_e γ$ channel which deforms slightly spectrum of the photon. We are going to show experimental investigation of this effect, for $\sim 10$ inverse atobarn accumulated luminosity, which can provide measurement of the $Z-ν_e$ coupling with statistical error of order 1\%. The estimation of the systematic experimental error will require more work, but most likely it will be of similar size.
We investigate the resonant production of color octet muons in order to explore the discovery potential of the FCC-based μp colliders. It is shown that search potential of μp colliders essentially surpass potential of the LHC and would exceed that of FCC pp collider.
Recently proposed Future Circular Collider based muon-proton colliders will allow investigating lepton-hadron interactions at the highest center-of-mass energy. In this study, we investigate the potential of these colliders for a four-fermion contact interactions search. Regarding the constructive and destructive interferences of contact interactions, we estimated discovery, observation, and exclusion limits on the compositeness scale for the left-left, right-right, left-right, and right-left helicity structures. This study's findings show that the FCC-based μp colliders have great potential f…
The remarkable synergy and complementarity between the circular ${\rm e^+ e^-}$ and pp colliders has been extensively discussed. In this short document, we investigate the complementarity between the proposed circular and linear ${\rm e^+ e^-}$ colliders at the electroweak and TeV scale. This complementarity could be exploited on a world-wide scale, if both a large circular and a linear infrastructures were available. A possible implementation of such a complementary program is shown.
In this paper we analyze the associated $ϕ$ and $J/Ψ$ photoproduction in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions through the double scattering mechanism for the energies of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC). Our results complement a previous analysis for the $ρρ$, $J/ΨJ/Ψ$ and $ρJ/Ψ$ production. We present our predictions for the total cross sections and rapidity distributions considering the rapidity ranges covered by the ALICE and LHCb detectors, which indicate that a future experimental analysis of $ϕJ/Ψ$ final state is feasible. These results point out that the s…
We describe various studies relevant for top physics at future circular collider projects currently under discussion. We show how highly-massive top-antitop systems produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV could be observed and employed for constraining top dipole moments, investigate the reach of future proton-proton and electron-positron machines to top flavor-changing neutral interactions, and discuss top parton densities.
The Future Circular Collider in the $\mathrm{e^{+}e^{-}}$ configuration offers the opportunity to significantly improve SM measurements with dedicated runs at the Z-pole, WW threshold, ZH (240 GeV), and $\mathrm{t}\bar{\mathrm{t}}$ threshold. With a factor of approximately $10^{5}$ more statistics at the Z-pole and $10^{4}$ at the WW threshold than at LEP, the FCC-ee will enable the extraction of the strong coupling $α_{s}$ at the per-mille level. Parton showering studies exploiting the pure gluon sample from $\mathrm{ZH}({\rightarrow} \mathrm{gg})$ will greatly improve our understanding of gl…
The future FCC-ee collider is designed to deliver $\mathrm{e^+e^-}$ collisions to study with ultimate precision the Z, W, and Higgs bosons, and the top quark. In a high-statistics scan around the Z pole, $1.3\times 10^{11}$ events $\mathrm{Z}\toττ$ will be produced, the largest sample of $ττ$ events foreseen at any lepton collider. With their large boost, $τ$ leptons from Z decays are particularly well suited for precision measurements. The focus of this report is on tests of lepton universality from precision measurement of $\boldsymbolτ$ properties and on tests of charged lepton flavour viol…
We study a model with $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ gauge symmetry and discuss collider searches for a scalar boson, which breaks $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ symmetry spontaneously, decaying into light $Z'$ gauge boson. In this model, the new gauge boson, $Z'$, with a mass lighter than $\mathcal{O}(100)$ MeV, plays a role in explaining the anomalous magnetic moment of muon via one-loop contribution. For the gauge boson to have such a low mass, the scalar boson, $ϕ$ with $\mathcal{O}(100)$ GeV mass appears associated with the symmetry breaking. We investigate experimental constraints on $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ gauge coupl…
The Monte Carlo integrator HAWK provides precision predictions for Higgs production at hadron colliders in vector-boson fusion and Higgs strahlung, i.e. in production processes where the Higgs boson is Attached to WeaK bosons. The fully differential predictions include the full QCD and electroweak next-to-leading-order corrections. Results are computed as integrated cross sections and as binned distributions for important hadron-collider observables.
The potential for the Higgs boson and Z-pole physics at the first muon collider is summarized, based on the discussions at the ``Workshop on the Physics at the First Muon Collider and at the Front End of a Muon Collider'' .
A weakly coupled new neutral gauge boson forms a narrow resonance that is hard to discover directly in e+e- collisions. However, if the gauge boson mass is below the center-of-mass energy, it can be produced through processes where the effective energy is reduced due to initial-state radiation and beamstrahlung. It is shown that at a high-luminosity linear collider, such a gauge boson can be searched for with very high sensitivity, leading to a substantial improvement compared to existing limits from the Tevatron and also extending beyond the expected reach of the LHC in most models. If a new …
We study the expected sensitivity to measure the branching ratio of Higgs boson decays to invisible particles at a future circular \epem collider (FCC-ee) in the process $e^+e^-\to HZ$ with $Z\to \ell^+\ell^-$ ($\ell=e$ or $μ$) using an integrated luminosity of 3.5 ab$^{-1}$ at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=240$ GeV. The impact of the energy spread of the FCC-ee beam and of the resolution in the reconstruction of the leptons is discussed. %Two different detector concepts are considered: a detector corresponding to the CMS reconstruction performances and the expected design of the ILC detec…
Tau tau fusion to light h and heavy H,A Higgs bosons is investigated in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at a photon collider as a promising channel for measuring large values of tan(beta). For standard design parameters of a photon collider an error close to unity, uniform for tan(beta) above 10, may be expected, improving on complementary measurements at LHC and e+e- linear colliders.
The investigation of the dynamics responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking is one of the prime tasks of experiments at present and future colliders. Experiments at the Tevatron ppbar Collider and at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) must be able to discover a Standard Model Higgs boson over the full mass range as well as Higgs bosons in extended models. In this review, the discovery potential for the Standard Model Higgs boson and for Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension is summarized. Emphasis is put on those studies which have been performed recently within the experi…
We demonstrate that, at a 500 GeV e+e- collider, inclusion of the $ZZ$-fusion process for production of a light standard-model-like Higgs boson can substantially increase the precision with which the $ZZh$ coupling can be determined (using the model-independent recoil mass technique) as compared to employing only $Zh$ associated production.
We study the possible dynamics associated with leptonic charge in future linear colliders. Leptophilic massive vector boson, Z_(l), have been investigated through the process e^(+)e^(-) -> mu^(+)mu^(-). We have shown that ILC and CLIC will give opportunity to observe Z_(l) with masses up to the center of mass energy if the corresponding coupling constant g_(l) exceeds 10^(-3).
Higgs boson properties could be studied with a high accuracy at a muon collider via the s-channel resonant production. We consider the situation where the center-of-mass energy of the muon collider is off the resonance above the Higgs mass. We discuss the discovery potential for a generic heavy Higgs boson ($H$) and compare different production mechanisms, including the "radiative return" ($γH$), $Z$-boson associated production ($ZH$) and heavy Higgs pair production ($HA$). These production mechanisms do not sensitively rely on a priori knowledge of the heavy Higgs boson mass. We include vario…
We present pseudorapidity and transverse momentum distributions for the cross section for the production of the lightest neutral Higgs boson in association with a high-p_T hadronic jet, calculated in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We discuss the theoretical predictions for the differential cross sections at the Large Hadron Collider and the Tevatron for the most common benchmark scenarios.
The Future Circular Collider is a new proposed collider at CERN with centre-of-mass energies around 100 TeV in the pp mode. Ongoing studies aim at assessing its physics potential and technical feasibility. Here we focus on updates in physics opportunities accessible in pA and AA collisions not covered in previous Quark Matter contributions, including Quark-Gluon Plasma and gluon saturation studies, novel hard probes of QCD matter, and photon-induced collisions.
Circular electron positron colliders, such as the CEPC and FCC-ee, have been proposed to measure Higgs boson properties precisely, test the Standard Model, search for physics beyond the Standard Model, and so on. One of the important goals of these colliders is to measure the $W$ boson mass with great precision by taking data around the $W$-pair production threshold. In this paper, the data-taking scheme is investigated to maximize the achievable precisions of the $W$ boson mass and width with a threshold scan, when various systematic uncertainties are taken into account. The study shows that …
We study collider phenomenology of the so-called 331 model with $SU(3)_C\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ gauge structure at the large hadron collider, including single and double Higgs boson productions, Higgs boson rare decay, $Z^\prime$ boson production, new charged gauge boson pair production, and heavy quark pair production. We discuss all the possible collider signatures of new particle productions. Four benchmark 331 models, $β=\pm \sqrt{3}$ and $β=\pm 1/\sqrt{3}$, are studied in this work.
We present a first estimate of the reach of future pp colliders, the 14 TeV LHC and a futuristic 100 TeV pp collider, on a vector resonance, specifically a $W^{'}$, produced via weak-boson-fusion, and decaying dominantly into $tb$. The analysis is motivated by Composite Higgs, Randall-Sundrum and Little Higgs scenarios, which predict the existence of vector resonances with a large coupling to $W$ and $Z$ longitudinal bosons. In particular, in composite Higgs models with partial compositeness, the standard Drell-Yan production channel is suppressed at large coupling while the weak-boson-fusion …
Littlest Higgs model predicts some extra particles beyond the Standard Model. Among them, an extra neutral gauge boson A_H is lightest and its mass could be a few hundred GeV. We study production and decay of A_H at future e^+ e^- inear collider and compare them with those of Z' bosons in supersymmetric (SUSY) E_6 models. We find that, if the extra gauge boson mass is smaller than \sqrt{s} of the linear collider, the forward-backward asymmetries of b- and c-quarks at the A_H pole differ significantly from those given by the Z' bosons, and are useful to test the littlest Higgs model and SUSY E_…
We consider Higgs boson pair production at a future proton collider with centre-of-mass energy of 100 TeV, focusing on rare final states that include a bottom-anti-bottom quark pair and multiple isolated leptons: $hh \rightarrow (b\bar{b}) + n \ell + X$, $n = \{2,4\}$, $X = \{ E_T^\mathrm{miss}, γ, -\}$. We construct experimental search strategies for observing the process through these channels and make suggestions on the desired requirements for the detector design of the future collider.
We explore the phenomenology of an extra U(1) gauge boson which primarily couples to standard model gauge bosons. We classify all possible parity-odd couplings up to dimension 6 operators. We then study the prospects for the detection of such a boson at the LHC and show that the electroweak decay channels lead to very clean signals, allowing us to probe couplings well into the TeV scale.
A light leptophilic boson (scalar or pseudoscalar) has been postulated to explain the muon g-2 anomaly and could be a portal to dark matter. Realizing the leptophilic nature of a singlet boson in the framework of the two-Higgs-doublet-Model of type-X, we identify the parameter space viable for the explanation of the updated muon g-2 discrepancy. It is then shown that such a hypothetical particle will be unambiguously ruled out or discovered via the Yukawa process at a lepton collider designed as a Higgs factory.
We study the hadroproduction of a CP-even or CP-odd neutral Higgs boson in association with a Z boson in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) We include the contributions from quark-antiquark annihilation at the tree level and those from gluon-gluon fusion, which proceeds via quark and squark loops, and list compact analytic results. We quantitatively analyze the hadronic cross sections at the CERN Large Hadron Collider assuming a favorable supergravity-inspired MSSM scenario.
The effect of the photon emission (bremsstrahlung) in the cross section of the process of direct production of the Higgs boson in the future high luminosity electron and muon colliders is calculated. It was found that cross section at the top of the Higgs boson resonance peak is reduced by factor 0.347 for the electron collider and 0.548 for the muon collider. Machine spread of the centre of the mass energy of 4.2MeV (equal to the Higgs width) would reduce peak cross section further, by factor 0.170 and 0.256 (QED and energy spread) for electron and muon beams respectively. Possible uncertaint…
Future Circular Collider is one of the next generation energy-frontier proton-proton colliders with 100 TeV center of mass energy and promising very high luminosity. FCC will be an extraordinary machine for searching Beyond the Standard Model physics because of its very high center of mass energy and luminosity. Searching supersymmetric particles via R-parity violated interactions could be listed in promising BSM physics at the FCC. Scalar tau neutrino is one of the most interesting predictions. A search for $\widetildeν_τ$ neutrino decaying into $eμ$ final state via R-parity violated interact…
By solving the rate equation in an expanding quark-gluon plasma, we study thermal production of charm quarks in central Pb+Pb collisions at the Future Circular Collider. With the charm quark production cross section taken from the perturbative QCD at the next-to-leading order, we find that charm quark production from the quark-gluon plasma can be appreciable compared to that due to initial hard scattering between colliding nucleons.
Now that the mass of the Higgs boson is known, circular electron positron colliders, able to measure the properties of these particles with high accuracy, are receiving considerable attention. Design studies have been launched (i) at CERN with the Future Circular Colliders (FCC), of which an e+e- collider is a potential first step (FCC-ee, formerly caller TLEP) and (ii) in China with the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). Hosted in a tunnel of at least 50 km (CEPC) or 80-100 km (FCC), both projects can deliver very high luminosity from the Z peak to HZ threshold (CEPC) and even to the…
We study the impact of fermionic dark matter (DM) on projected Higgs precision measurements at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), including the one-loop effects on the $e^+e^-\to Zh$ cross section and the Higgs boson diphoton decay, as well as the tree-level effects on the Higgs boson invisible decay. As illuminating examples, we discuss two UV-complete DM models, whose dark sector contains electroweak multiplets that interact with the Higgs boson via Yukawa couplings. The CEPC sensitivity to these models and current constraints from DM detection and collider experiments are inves…
A study of single top quark production via flavor changing neutral current interactions at $tqγ$ vertices is performed at future circular hadron electron collider. The signal cross sections for the processes $e^{-}p\to e^{-}W^{\pm}q+X$ and $e^{-}p\to e^{-}W^{\pm}bq+X$ in the collision of electron beam with energy $E_e=$ 60 GeV and proton beam with energy $E_p=$ 50 TeV are calculated. In the analysis, the invariant mass distributions of three jets reconstructing top quark mass, requiring one b-tagged jet and other two jets reconstructing the $W$ mass are used to count signal and background even…
We study the phenomena of spin rotation and depolarization of high-energy particles in crystals in the range of high energies that will be available at Hadron Collider (LHC) and Future Circular Collider (FCC). It is shown that these phenomena can be used to measure the anomalous magnetic moments of short-lived particles in this range of energies. We also demonstrate that the phenomenon of particle spin depolarization in crystals provides a unique possibility of measuring the anomalous magnetic moment of negatively-charged particles (e.g., beauty baryons), for which the channeling effect is ham…
We study the collider phenomenology of the electroweak phase transition and electroweak baryogenesis in the framework of the effective field theory. Our study shows that the effective theory using the dimension-6 operators can enforce strong first order phase transition and provide sizable CP violation to realize a successful electroweak baryogenesis. Such dimension-6 operators can induce interesting Higgs phenomenology that can be verified at colliders such as the LHC and the planning CEPC. We then demonstrate that this effective theory can originate from vector-like quarks and the triplet Hi…
To provide context for discussions of experiments at future muon colliders, I survey what is known and what will be known about the top quark and the Higgs boson from experiments at hadron colliders.
Theoretical overview on phenomenology of Higgs boson and SUSY Higgs boson at a future linear collider experiment is given as a Higgs and SUSY Higgs working group summary report for LCWS 2000.
Various methods of obtaining longitudinally polarized positrons for future linear colliders are reviewed. Special attention is paid to the schemes using circularly polarized high-energy photons for positron production. Most effectively such photons are obtained from electrons passing through a helical undulator or colliding with a circularly polarized laser wave. Spectrum and polarization of radiation emitted during helical motion of electrons are considered in detail. A new simple presentation of known formulas is used to account for the influence of the wave intensity, of the electron-beam a…
In this article, we consider the ratio of structure functions for heavy quark pair production at low values of $x$. The importance of this ratio for charm and beauty pair production is examined according to the Hadron Electron Ring Accelerator (HERA) data. The behavior of these ratios considers due to the hard-pomeron behavior of the gluon distribution function. The results are in good agreement with respect to the HERA data. Expanding this data to the range of new energies underscore the importance of these measurements for heavy quarks. The ratio of charm and beauty structure functions at th…
In a composite model of the weak bosons the excited bosons, in particular the p-wave bosons, are studied. The state with the lowest mass is identified with the boson, which has been discovered recently at the "Large Hadron Collider" at CERN. Specific properties of the excited weak bosons are studied, in particular their decays into weak bosons and into photons.
Pseudoscalar and charged Higgs bosons production in the processes $μ^+ μ^-\to P^0_i Z^0$, $μ^+μ^- \to H^{\pm}W^{\mp}$ within the models with several Higgs doublets and singlets is considered.
We review the role of a muon collider in the study of Higgs bosons via production in the s-channel. Very precise measurements of a Standard Model-like Higgs boson mass and total width can be performed, and may lead to a discrimination between a Standard Model Higgs boson and the light Higgs boson of the minimal supersymmetric theory. The heavier Higgs bosons from a supersymmetric theory or an exotic Higgs sector can be studied in the s-channel. A muon collider may play a crucial role in separating the overlapping signals for two heavy nearly degenerate Higgs bosons, and may play an important r…
We compute the resummed hadronic transverse energy (E_T) distribution due to initial-state QCD radiation in vector boson and Higgs boson production at hadron colliders. The resummed exponent, parton distributions and coefficient functions are treated consistently to next-to-leading order. The results are matched to fixed-order calculations at large E_T and compared with parton-shower Monte Carlo predictions at Tevatron and LHC energies.
This paper reviews the potential of a high luminosity e+e- linear collider (LC) in the precision study of the Higgs boson profile. The complementarity of the linear collider data with that from the LHC is also discussed together with a comparison with a muon collider.
We examine the potential for detecting and studying Higgs bosons at a photon-photon collider facility associated with a future linear collider. Our study incorporates realistic $\gam\gam$ luminosity spectra based on the most probable available laser technology. Results include detector simulations. We study the cases of: a) a SM-like Higgs boson; b) the heavy MSSM Higgs bosons; c) a Higgs boson with no $WW/ZZ$ couplings from a general two Higgs doublet model.
The current theoretical understanding of anomalous gauge boson couplings is reviewed, and the direct measurement of these couplings in present and future hadron collider experiments is briefly discussed.
The Future Circular Collider (FCC) design study is aimed at assessing the physics potential and the technical feasibility of a new collider with centre-of-mass energies, in the hadron-hadron collision mode including proton and nucleus beams, more than seven-times larger than the nominal LHC energies. An electron-positron collider in the same tunnel is also considered as an intermediate step, which would provide the electron-hadron option in the long term. First ideas on the physics opportunities with heavy ions at the FCC are presented, covering the physics of Quark-Gluon Plasma, gluon saturat…
The Future Circular Collider (FCC) is a crucial step forward to study new Physics beyond the standard model and to test fundamental aspects as space-time minimal length and Lorentz violations. As an example, a possible enhancement of $e^+e^-$ pair production due to non-commutative effects, catalyzed by the huge magnetic field produced at the beginning of a heavy ion collision at FCC, is discussed. In noncommutative electrodynamics a free photon in the magnetic background can produce a $e^+e^-$ pair. In particular for hard photons with transverse energy $100-600$ GeV at the beginning of the col…
In this paper we study the possible searches at colliders using Vector Boson Fusion topology in the context of Simplified Models signatures. We examine the possible physics reach of these searches with regard to monojet-type searches, and determine how these two signatures are complementary.
