The poorly studied Berkeley 8 (Be8) open cluster is analysed from CCD UBVRI photometric data taken with the 0.90 m telescope at the Sierra Nevada Observatory. The Z = +0.008 PARSEC isochrone gave us a reddening of E(B-V) = 0.69 +- 0.03, a distance of 3410 +- 300 pc and an age of 2.8 +- 0.2 Gyr. Its median Gaia DR2 distance, d = 3676 +- 810 pc is in good agreement with our photometric distances, 3410 - 3620 pc within the uncertainties. The kinematic parameters of five likely members of Be 8 with the circular orbits, ecc = [0.23, 0.30] reflect the properties of the Galactic thin disc, which is also consistent with what is expected of its metal content ([M/H] = -0.27). Be8 with R > 9 kpc (co-rotation gap at 9 kpc) may have been originating from different galactic radius or different star formation region.
The fundamental parameters of reddening, metallicity, age, and distance are presented for the poorly studied open clusters Be~89, Ru~135, and Be~10, derived from their CCD UBVRI photometry. By fitting the appropriate isochrones to the observed sequences of the clusters in five different color--magnitude diagrams, the weighted averages of distance moduli and heliocentric distances ($(V_0$--$M_{V}), d$(kpc)) are $(11\fm90\pm 0\fm06, 2.4\pm 0.06$) for Be~89, $(9\fm58\pm 0\fm07, 0.81\pm 0.03$) for Ru~135, and $(11\fm16\pm 0\fm06, 1.7 \pm 0.05$) for Be~10, and the weighted averages of the ages $(\l…
We present the results of CCD UBVRI observations of the open cluster NGC 6811 obtained on 18th July 2012 with the 1m telescope at the TÜBİTAK National Observatory (TUG). Using these photometric results, we determine the structural and astrophysical parameters of the cluster. The mean photometric uncertainties are better than 0.02 mag in the V magnitude and B-V, V-R, and V-I colour indices to about 0.03 mag for U-B among stars brighter than magnitude V=18. Cluster member stars were separated from the field stars using the Galaxia model of Sharma et al. (2011) together with other techniques. The…
The CCD UBV(RI)KC photometry of the poorly studied open clusters Juchert 9 (Juc 9) and Berkeley 97 (Be 97), which are observed with the 0.84 m telescope at the San Pedro Mártir National Observatory, México has been analysed. For the likely cluster members, we determined the reddenings, E(B-V)=0.82 +- 0.04 (Juc 9) and E(B-V)=0.87 +- 0.05 (Be 97), from the early type stars. Our distance moduli/distances for only (B - V) colour are (Vo-Mv , d(kpc)) = (13.40 +- 0.10, 4.8 +- 0.2 kpc) (Juc 9) and (12.40 +- 0.12, 3.0 +- 0.2 kpc) (Be 97), respectively. The Gaia DR2 distances are d = 4.5 +- 1.2 kpc (Ju…
Fundamental astrophysical parameters have been derived for Be 55 open cluster based on UBVI CCD photometric data, observed with the AZT-22 1.5m telescope at Maidanak Astronomical Observatory in Uzbekistan. The mean reddening is obtained as E(B-V)=1.77+-0.10 mag from early type members. The zero age main sequence fitting in the Q(VA)- Q0 diagrams indicates the distance modulus, (V0 - MV)=12.4+-0.20 mag (d=3.02+-0.28 kpc). This photometric distance is consistent with the distances of Gaia EDR3 (d=3.09+-0.16 kpc) and period-luminosity relation (d=2.78+-0.32 kpc) of its Cepheid S5 within the uncer…
We performed detailed photometric and astrometric analyses of the open star clusters Berkeley 68 and Stock 20. This was based on ground-based CCD UBV photometric data complemented by space-based Gaia Data Release 3 photometry and astrometry. 198 stars were identified as likely cluster members for Berkeley 68 and 51 for Stock 20. Two-color diagrams were used to derive the reddening and photometric metallicity for each cluster. The reddening for Berkeley 68 is $E(B-V)=0.520 \pm 0.032$ and $0.400 \pm 0.048$ mag for Stock 20. Photometric metallicity [Fe/H] is $-0.13 \pm 0.08$ dex for Berkeley 68, …
The BVRcIc CCD photometry in the fields of six open clusters toward the Perseus spiral arm is presented. These data along with JHKs magnitudes taken from 2MASS catalog, have been used to determine cluster's ages, distances and color excesses. In addition, the gaps in mass function of Be 97, King 12 and NGC 7788 clusters have been revealed in mass intervals of 1.3-1.5, 1.4-1.6 and 1.5-1.7 solar masses, respectively.
To study the crucial range of Galactocentric distances between 12 and 16 kpc, where little information is available, we have obtained VI CCD imaging of Berkeley 20 and BVI CCD imaging of Berkeley 66 and Tombaugh 2, three distant, old open clusters. Using the synthetic colour magnitude diagram (CMD) technique with three types of evolutionary tracks of different metallicities, we have determined age, distance, reddening and indicative metallicity of these systems. The CMD of Be 20 is best reproduced by stellar models with a metallicity about half of solar (Z=0.008 or 0.01), in perfect agreement …
We have obtained CCD UBVI_{KC} photometry down to V ~ 21.0 for the open clusters Berkeley 26, Czernik 27, Melotte 72, NGC 2479 and BH 37. The latter has never been studied before. Cluster stellar density profiles were obtained from star counts in appropriate-sized boxes distributed throughout the entire observed fields. Based on different measured indices, we estimate the ages of Berkeley 26, Melotte 72 and NGC 2479. On the other hand, we indicate possible solutions for the cluster fundamental parameters by matching theoretical isochrones which reasonably reproduce the main cluster features in…
We present $UBVRI$ photometry of 8702 stars in a $0.5 ^\circ\times0.5 ^\circ$ field in the direction of NGC 7142, taken with the Half Degree Imager (HDI) at the WIYN 0.9-meter telescope, to improve knowledge of this cluster's basic parameters. Our photometry spans the ranges 10.6 - 20.4 mag in $U$, 10.6 - 22.0 mag in $B$, 10.0 - 21.8 mag in $V$, 9.2 - 20.7 mag in $R$, and 8.5 - 19.9 mag in $I$. Using color-color diagrams that employ all four color combinations that include $U$, versus $B-V$, we derive a reddening-metallicity relation for the cluster, with preferred values $E(B-V$) = 0.338 $\pm…
We present BVI CCD photometry of 10 northern open clusters, Berkeley 43, Berkeley 45, Berkeley 47, NGC 6846, Berkeley 49, Berkeley 51, Berkeley 89, Berkeley 91, Tombaugh 4 and Berkeley 9, and estimate their fundamental parameters. Eight of the clusters are located in the first galactic quadrant and 2 are in the second. This is the first optical photometry for 8 clusters. All of them are embedded in rich galactic fields and have large reddening towards them (E(B-V) = 1.0 - 2.3 mag). There is a possibility that some of these difficult-to-study clusters may be asterisms rather than physical syste…
The open clusters NGC 2323 and NGC 2539 have been analysed using CCD UBV(RI)KC photometric data, observed at the San Pedro Martir Observatory. Cluster memberships have been determined with the proper motion and parallax measures from the GaiaDR2 astrometric data release. Photometric metal and heavy element abundances have been obtained as (M/H, Z) = (-0.10, 0.012) (NGC 2323) and (-0.31, 0.007) (NGC 2539), from the delta(U-B) technique in the two colour diagrams, which are used to select the appropriate PARSEC isochrones. The estimated reddening of NGC 2323 is E(B-V) = 0.23+-0.04 using 11 early…

We present a CCD photometric survey for the search of variable stars in four open clusters namely Berkeley 69, King 5, King 7, and Berkeley 20. The time series observations were carried out for 1 and/or 2 nights for each of the clusters in the year 1998, which have led to identify nineteen variable stars in these clusters. Out of these 19 variable stars, five stars show delta Scuti like variability and two stars show W UMa type variability. In other stars, we could not find the periods and hence the type of variability due to the lack of sufficient data. The periods of delta Scuti type stars a…
We present a study of 7 southern open clusters based on UBVRI CCD photomety (Johnsons-Cousins system) and Gaia DR2 data. Dias 4, Dias 6 and four other clusters had UBVRI photometric observations determined for the first time. From the observational UBVRI data we obtained photometric membership probability estimates and, using the proper motions from the UCAC5 catalog, we also determined the kinematic membership. From Gaia DR2 astrometric data we determine the stellar membership using proper motions and parallaxes, taking into account the full covariance matrix. For both independent sets of dat…
New accurate and homogeneous optical UBVRI photometry has been obtained for variable stars in the Galactic globular $ω$ Cen (NGC 5139). We secured 8202 CCD images covering a time interval of 24 years and a sky area of 84x48 arcmin. The current data were complemented with data available in the literature and provided new, homogeneous pulsation parameters (mean magnitudes, luminosity amplitudes, periods) for 187 candidate $ω$ Cen RR Lyrae (RRLs). Among them we have 101 RRc (first overtone), 85 RRab (fundamental) and a single candidate RRd (double-mode) variables. Candidate Blazhko RRLs show perio…
New photometric material is presented for 6 outer disk supposedly old, Galact ic star clusters: Berkeley 76, Haffner 4, Ruprecht 10, Haffner 7, Haffner 11, and Haffner 15, that are projected against the rich and complex Canis Major overde nsity at $225^o \leq l \leq 248^o $, $-7^o \leq b \leq -2^o$. This CCD data-set, in the UBVI pass-bands, is used to derive their fundamental parameters, in particular age and distance. Four of the program clusters turn out to be older than 1 Gyr. This fact makes them ideal targets for future spectroscopic campaigns aiming at deriving their metal abundances. T…
We present high-quality CCD photometry in the Washington system C and T1 passbands down to T1 ~ 19.5 mag in the fields of 10 Galactic open clusters (OCs) or candidates projected close to the Galactic plane, namely: ESO 313-SC03, BH 54, Ruprecht 87, ESO 129-SC32, BH 217, Collinder 347, Basel 5, Ruprecht 144, Archinal 1 and Berkeley 82. Four of these objects are located toward the Galactic centre direction within a solid angle of 21 deg. No photoelectric or CCD photometry in the optical domain has been so far reported for five of these objects. Cluster radii are estimated from radial density pro…
In the second paper of the series we continue the investigation of open cluster fundamental parameters using a robust global optimization method to fit model isochrones to photometric data. We present optical UBVRI CCD photometry (Johnsons-Cousins system) observations for 24 neglected open clusters, of which 14 have high quality data in the visible obtained for the first time, as a part of our ongoing survey being carried out in the 0.6m telescope of the Pico dos Dias Observatory in Brazil. All objects were then analyzed with a global optimization tool developed by our group which estimates th…
