Background: The LHCb Collaboration has studied a number of kinematic correlations between $B$-hadron pairs through their subsequent decays to $J/ψ$ pairs at 7 and 8 TeV for four minimum values of the $J/ψ$ $p_T$. Purpose: In this work, these measurements are compared to calculations of $b \bar b$ pairs and their hadronization and inclusive decays to $J/ψJ/ψ$ are compared to the same observables. Potential cold matter effects on the $b \bar b$ pair observables are discussed to determine which are most likely to provide insights about the system and why. Methods: The calculations, employing the exclusive HVQMNR code, assume the same intrinsic $k_T$-broadening and fragmentation as in [R. Vogt, Phys. Rev. C {\bf 98} (2018) 034907]. The pair distributions presented by LHCb are calculated in this approach, both for the parent $b \bar b$ and the $J/ψJ/ψ$ pairs produced in their decay. The sensitivity of the results to the intrinsic $k_T$ broadening is shown. The theoretical uncertainties due to the $b$ quark mass and scale variations on both the initial $b \bar b$ pairs and the resulting $J/ψ$ pairs are also shown. Possible effects due to the presence of the nucleus are studied by increasing the size of the $k_T$ broadening and modification of the fragmentation parameter. Results: Good agreement with the LHCb data is found for all observables. The parent $b \bar b$ distributions are more sensitive to the $k_T$ broadening than are the final-state $J/ψ$ pairs. Conclusions: Next-to-leading order calculations with $k_T$ broadening, as in [R. Vogt, Phys. Rev. C {\bf 98} (2018) 034907], can describe all correlated observables. Multiple measurements of correlated observables are sensitive to different nuclear effects which can help distinguish between them.

During the last several years remarkable progress has been made in numerical calculations of dimensionally regulated multi-loop Feynman diagrams using Mellin-Barnes (MB) representations. The bottlenecks were non-planar diagrams and Minkowskian kinematics. The method has been proved to work in highly non-trivial physical application (two-loop electroweak bosonic corrections to the $Z \to b \bar{b}$ decay), and cross-checked with the sector decomposition (SD) approach. In fact, both approaches have their pros and cons. In calculation of multidimensional integrals, depending on masses and scales …
We present a study of the nuclear-medium induced transverse momentum broadening of particle production in future electron-ion-collision~(EIC) experiments. By considering the multiple scattering between hard partons and cold nuclear medium within the higher-twist factorization framework in perturbative QCD, we calculate the transverse momentum broadening of single hadron production in semi-inclusive measurements, as well as the nuclear enhancement of the transverse momentum imbalance for di-hadron and heavy-meson pair productions. In particular, a kinematics dependent non-perturbative jet trans…
Centrality, Rapidity and Transverse-Momentum Dependence of Cold Nuclear Matter Effects on J/Psi Production in d+Au, Cu+Cu and Au+Au Collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV
New Physics can manifest itself in kinematic distributions of particle decays. The parameter space defining the shape of such distributions can be large which is challenging for both theoretical and experimental studies. Using clustering algorithms, the parameter space can however be dissected into subsets (clusters) which correspond to similar kinematic distributions. Clusters can then be represented by benchmark points, which allow for less involved studies and a concise presentation of the results. We demonstrate this concept using the Python package ClusterKinG, an easy to use framework fo…
We investigate the experimentally-accessible kinematic distributions of the $\bar B\to D^{(*)}τ^-(\to\ell^-\barν_\ellν_τ)\barν_τ$ decays. Specifically, we study the decay rates as functions of the $B\to D^{(*)}$ transferred squared momentum, the energy of the final charged lepton and the angle of its 3-momentum relative to the 3-momentum of the recoiling $D^{(*)}$. The angular distribution allows to introduce new observables, like a forward-backward asymmetry, which are complementary to the total rates. We present analytic formulas for the observable 3-fold 5-body differential decay rates, stu…
The associated production of a $b\bar{b}$ pair with a Higgs boson could provide an important probe to both the size and the phase of the bottom-quark Yukawa coupling, $y_b$. However, the signal is shrouded by several background processes including the irreducible $Zh, Z\to b\bar{b}$ background. We show that the analysis of kinematic shapes provides us with a concrete prescription for separating the $y_b$-sensitive production modes from both the irreducible and the QCD-QED backgrounds using the $b\bar{b}γγ$ final state. We draw a page from game theory and use Shapley values to make Boosted Deci…
The in-medium properties of the heavy spin-3/2 $Σ_Q^{*}$, $Ξ_Q^{*}$ and $Ω_Q^{*}$ baryons with $Q$ being $b$ or $c$ quark are investigated. The shifts in some spectroscopic parameters of these particles due to the saturated cold nuclear matter are calculated. The variations of those parameters with respect to the changes in the density of the cold nuclear medium are studied, as well. It is observed that the parameters of $Σ_Q^{*}$ baryons are considerably affected by the nuclear matter compared to the $Ξ_Q^{*}$ and $Ω_Q^{*}$ particles that roughly do not see the medium. The results obtained ma…
I discuss the properties of the $Λ_{c}$ baryon in nuclear matter at zero or finite temperature. Starting from the Lagrangian based on the heavy-quark effective theory, I derive the effective Lagrangian for the $Λ_{c}$ baryon existing as an impurity particle. Adopting the one-loop calculation for nucleons, I derive the effective potential as the quantity for measuring the stability of the $Λ_{c}$ baryon in nuclear matter. The parameters in the Lagrangian are fitted to reproduce the scattering length of the nucleon and the $Λ_{c}$ baryon estimated in the lattice QCD simulations and the chiral ex…
We introduce an axion-inflation model embedded in the Left-Right symmetric extension of the SM in which $W_R$ is coupled to the axion. This model merges three milestones of modern cosmology, i.e., inflation, cold dark matter, and baryon asymmetry. Thus, it can naturally explain the observed coincidences among cosmological parameters, i.e., $η_{B}\approx P_ζ$ and $Ω_{DM} \simeq 5~Ω_{B}$. The source of asymmetry is spontaneous CP violation in the physics of inflation, and the lightest right-handed neutrino is the cold dark matter candidate with mass $m_{N_1}\sim 1~GeV$. The introduced mechanism …
We present $Φ$- and $J/Ψ$--nuclear bound state energies and absorption widths for some selected nuclei, using potentials in the local density approximation computed from an effective Lagrangian approach combined with the quark-meson coupling model. Our results suggest that these mesons should form bound states with all the nuclei considered provided that these mesons are produced in nearly recoilless kinematics.
