We report benchmark calculations of the energy per particle of pure neutron matter as a function of the baryon density using three independent many-body methods: Brueckner-Bethe-Goldstone, Fermi hypernetted chain/single-operator chain, and auxiliary-field diffusion Monte Carlo. Significant technical improvements are implemented in the latter two methods. The calculations are made for two distinct families of realistic coordinate-space nucleon-nucleon potentials fit to scattering data, including the standard Argonne $v_{18}$ interaction and two of its simplified versions, and four of the new Norfolk $Δ$-full chiral effective field theory potentials. The results up to twice nuclear matter saturation density show some divergence among the methods, but improved agreement compared to earlier work. We find that the potentials fit to higher-energy nucleon-nucleon scattering data exhibit a much smaller spread of energies.
We demonstrate the validity of the complex scaling method for realistic strong, non-local, nucleon- nucleon interactions by comparing the deuteron bound state and nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shifts with results from other high-precision methods. This opens a pathway for the simultaneous ab initio solutions of the nuclear bound and scattering problems within a unified framework.
This paper deals with the possible motion of nucleons in the nucleus, which is due to realistic inter-nucleonic forces. This approach provides new or more substantiated conclusions about the nuclear structure than those based on the effective interaction of nucleons, while the shell model of the nucleus may lead to questionable conclusions regarding the nuclear structure and nuclear reaction mechanisms.
We investigate the influence of the nucleon-nucleon collision profile (probability of interaction as a function of the nucleon-nucleon impact parameter) in the wounded nucleon model and its extensions on several observables measured in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We find that the participant eccentricity coefficient, $ε^\ast$, as well as the higher harmonic coefficients, $ε_n^\ast$, are reduced by 10-20% for mid-peripheral collisions when the realistic (Gaussian) profile is used, as compared to the case with the commonly-used hard-sphere profile. Similarly, the multiplicity fluctuations…
We perform ab initio calculations for nuclei around ^{16}O, ^{40}Ca, and ^{56}Ni using realistic nucleon-nucleon forces. In particular, ^{56}Ni is computed as the heaviest nucleus in this kind of ab initio calculation. Ground-state and single-particle energies including three-body-cluster effects are obtained within the framework of the unitary-model-operator approach. It is shown that the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential gives quite good results close to the experimental values for all nuclei in the present work.
New parameter-sets of the M3Y-type semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction are obtained, by taking into account the whole contribution of the interaction to the pairing. The interactions are applicable to nuclear structure studies via mean-field calculations and their extensions. Implementing self-consistent mean-field calculations for the spherical nuclei, we confirm that the results do not change significantly from the previous ones, in which the parameters were determined by partly discarding influence of the density-dependent repulsion on the pairing.
The potentials $V (v)$ in the nonrelativistic (relativistic) nucleon-nucleon (NN) Schroedingerequation are related by a quadratic equation. That equation is numerically solved, thus providing phase equivalent v- potentials related for instance to the high precision NN potentials, which are adjusted to NN phase shift and mixing parameters in a nonrelativistic Schroedinger equation. The relativistic NN potentials embedded in a three-nucleon (3N)system for total NN momenta different from zero are also constructed in a numerically precise manner. They enter into the relativistic interacting 3N mas…
We present a new and efficient method to obtain a Gamow shell-model basis and matrix elements generated by realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. We derive a self-consistent Hartree-Fock potential from the renormalized N3LO interaction model. The corresponding Gamow one-body eigenstates are generated in a plane wave basis in order to build a Gamow shell-model set of basis states for the closed shell nuclei 4He and 16O. We address also the problem of representing a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction in a two-particle Berggren basis in the laboratory frame. To achieve this, an expansion of m…
We examine nucleon-nucleon realistic interactions, based on their SU(3) decomposition to SU(3)-symmetric components. We find that many of these interaction components are negligible, which, in turn, allows us to identify a subset of physically relevant components that are sufficient to describe the structure of low-lying states in $^{12}$C and related observables, such as excitation energies, electric quadrupole transitions and rms radii. We find that paring the interaction down to half of the SU(3)-symmetric components or more yields results that practically coincide with the corresponding ab…
The ground-state energy of the doubly magic nuclei 4He and 16O has been calculated within the framework of the Goldstone expansion starting from modern nucleon-nucleon potentials. A low-momentum potential V-low-k has been derived from the bare potential by integrating out its high-momentum components beyond a cutoff Lambda. We have employed a simple criterion to relate this cutoff momentum to a boundary condition for the two-nucleon model space spanned by a harmonic-oscillator basis. Convergence of the results has been obtained with a limited number of oscillator quanta.
Ground state properties of finite nuclei ($^{16}$O and $^{40}$Ca) are evaluated from realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. The calculations are based on the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approximation. Special attention is paid to the role of the energy spectrum for the particle states, in particular for those close to the Fermi energy. Additional binding energy is obtained from the inclusion of the hole-hole scattering term within the framework of the Green function approach. Results for the energy distribution of the single-particle strength and the sensitivity to the nucleon-nucleon interaction …
Semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions applicable to the self-consistent mean-field (both Hartree-Fock and Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov) calculations are developed, by modifying the M3Y interaction. The modification is made so as to reproduce binding energies and rms matter radii of doubly magic nuclei, single-particle levels in $^{208}$Pb, and even-odd mass differences of the Sn isotopes. We find parameter-sets with and without the tensor force. The new interactions are further checked by the saturation properties of the uniform nuclear matter including the Landau-Migdal parameters. By the me…
We present a novel scheme for nuclear structure calculations based on realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials. The essential ingredient is the explicit treatment of the dominant interaction-induced correlations by means of the Unitary Correlation Operator Method (UCOM). Short-range central and tensor correlations are imprinted into simple, uncorrelated many-body states through a state-independent unitary transformation. Applying the unitary transformation to the realistic Hamiltonian leads to a correlated, low-momentum interaction, well suited for all kinds of many-body models, e.g., Hartree-Fock…
New parameter-sets of the semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction are developed, by modifying the M3Y interaction but maintaining the tensor channels and the longest-range central channels. The modification is made so as to reproduce microscopic results of neutron-matter energies, in addition to the measured binding energies of doubly magic nuclei including $^{100}$Sn and the even-odd mass differences of the Z=50 and N=82 nuclei in the self-consistent mean-field calculations. Separation energies of the proton- or neutron-magic nuclei are shown to be in fair agreement with the experimental d…
We report the first calculations of cross sections for the radiative capture reactions t(alpha,gamma)^7Li and ^3He(alpha,gamma)^7Be below 2 MeV which use wave functions derived from realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions by the variational Monte Carlo technique. After examining several small corrections to the dominant E1 operator, we find energy dependences for the low-energy S-factors which agree reasonably with experimental measurements. There is no contradiction with the previous theoretical understanding of these processes, but the zero-energy derivative of the t(alpha,gamma)^7Li S-factor…
This paper discusses the derivation of an effective shell-model hamiltonian starting from a realistic nucleon-nucleon potential by way of perturbation theory. More precisely, we present the state of the art of this approach when the starting point is the perturbative expansion of the Q-box vertex function. Questions arising from diagrammatics, intermediate-states and order-by-order convergences, and their dependence on the chosen nucleon-nucleon potential, are discussed in detail, and the results of numerical applications for the p-shell model space starting from chiral next-to-next-to-next-to…
Magic numbers are predicted in wide range of the nuclear chart by the self-consistent mean-field calculations with the M3Y-P6 and P7 semi-realistic $NN$ interactions. The magic numbers are identified by vanishing pair correlations in the spherical Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov regime. We also identify submagic numbers when energy gain due to the pairing is sufficiently small. It is found that the results with M3Y-P6 well correspond to the known data, apart from a few exceptions. For some of the magic or submagic numbers the prediction differs from that with the Gogny-D1S or D1M interaction. Roles of…
Optical model potentials for elastic nucleon nucleus scattering are calculated for a number of target nuclides from a full-folding integral of two different realistic target density matrices together with full off-shell nucleon-nucleon t-matrices derived from two different Bonn meson exchange models. Elastic proton and neutron scattering observables calculated from these full-folding optical potentials are compared to those obtained from `optimum factorized' approximations in the energy regime between 65 and 400 MeV projectile energy. The optimum factorized form is found to provide a good appr…
Based on an effective nucleon-nucleon interaction, a microscopic cluster model of the nucleus-nucleus bremsstrahlung, including implicitly a part of the effects of meson-exchange currents via an extension of the Siegert theorem is applied to the $α+p$ and $α+n$ systems. The contributions of the $E1$ and $E2$ transitions to the bremsstrahlung cross sections are evaluated and their relative importance for the mirror systems $α+p$ and $α+n$ is compared. Another approach based on realistic two- and three-nucleon interactions and the No-Core Shell Model/Resonating-Group Method is also investigated.…
We investigate the influence of phenomenological three-nucleon interactions on the systematics of ground-state energies and charge radii throughout the whole nuclear mass range from 4-He to 208-Pb. The three-nucleon interactions supplement unitarily transformed two-body interactions constructed within the Unitary Correlation Operator Method or the Similarity Renormalization Group approach. To be able to address heavy nuclei as well, we treat the many-body problem in Hartree-Fock plus many-body perturbation theory, which is sufficient to assess the systematics of energies and radii, and limit o…
We analyze the spin-orbit coupling term in the nuclear energy density functional in terms of a zero-range NN-contact interaction and finite-range contributions from two-pion exchange. We show that the strength of the spin-orbit contact interaction as extracted from high-precision nucleon-nucleon potentials is in perfect agreement with that of phenomenological Skyrme forces employed in non-relativistic nuclear structure calculations. Additional long-range contributions from chiral two-pion exchange turn out to be relatively small. These explicitly density-dependent contributions reduce the rati…
The properties of neutron star are studied in the framework of relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) model with realistic nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interactions, i.e. Bonn potentials. The strong repulsion of $NN$ interaction at short range is properly removed by the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM). Meanwhile, the tensor correlation is neglected due to the very rich neutron environment in neutron star, where the total isospin of two nucleons can be approximately regarded as $T=1$. The equations of state of neutron star matter are calculated in $β$ equilibrium and charge neutrality conditions.…
We report on the calculation of Gamow-Teller and double-beta decay properties for nuclei around 132Sn within the framework of the realistic shell model. The effective shell-model Hamiltonian and Gamow-Teller transition operator are derived by way of many-body perturbation theory, without resorting to empirical effective quenching factor for the Gamow-Teller operator. The results are then compared with the available experimental data, in order to establish the reliability of our approach. This is a mandatory step, before we apply the same methodology, in forthcoming studies, to the calculation …
Three-neutron resonances are investigated using realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction models. The resonance pole trajectories are explored by first adding an additional interaction to artificially bind the three-neutron system and then gradually removing it. The pole positions for the three-neutron states up to J=5/2 are localized in the third energy quadrant-Im (E)<=0, Re (E)<=0-well before the additional interaction is removed. Our study shows that realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction models exclude any possible experimental signature of three-neutron resonances.
Self-consistent single-nucleon potential at positive energy produced by semi-realistic interaction and its examination via nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering
We examine a recently proposed nucleon-nucleon interaction, claimed by its authors both realistic and leading to a standing wave instability in symmetric nuclear matter. Contrary to these claims, we find that this interaction leads to a serious overbinding of 4He, 16O and 40Ca nuclei when the Hartree-Fock method is properly applied. The resulting nuclear densities contradict the experimental data and all realistic Hartree-Fock results.
The calculation of transport properties of Fermi liquids, based on the formalism developed by Abrikosov and Khalatnikov, requires the knowledge of the probability of collisions between quasiparticles in the vicinity of the Fermi surface. We have carried out a numerical study of the shear viscosity of pure neutron matter, whose value plays a pivotal role in determining the stability of rotating neutron stars, in which these processes are described using a state-of-the-art nucleon-nucleon potential model. Within our approach medium modifications of the scattering cross section are consistently t…
We present the equation of state of infinite neutron matter as obtained from highly-realistic Hamiltonians that include nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon coordinate-space potentials. We benchmark three independent many-body methods: Brueckner-Bethe-Goldstone (BBG), Fermi hypernetted chain/single-operator chain (FHNC/SOC), and auxiliary-field diffusion Monte Carlo (AFDMC). We find them to provide similar equations of state when the Argonne $v_{18}$ and the Argonne $v_{6}^\prime$ nucleon-nucleon potentials are used in combination with the Urbana IX three-body force. Only at densities larger than…
A class of nucleon-nucleon interactions which are exactly phase equivalent to a given realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction are exhibited. These interaction have the property that the RMS radius of the deuteron can be made arbitrarily large without changing any of the scattering or bound-state observables. With this construction it is possible to find realistic interactions that do not obey the linear relation between the RMS radius and the triplet scattering length observed by Klarsfeld et. al. The interpretation of these examples is discussed.
We study the parity-violating pion-nucleon coupling $G_π$ in the framework of a realistic three flavor Skryme model. We find a sizeable enhancement of $G_π\simeq 0.8 ... 1.3 \cdot 10^{-7}$ compared to previous calculations in two-flavor models with vector mesons. This strangeness enhancement stems from induced kaon fields of the chiral soliton and the non-monotoneous dependence on symmetry breaking of the nucleon matrix element of the flavor singlet piece of the operator associated with these induced fields. Both features are sensitive to four quark operators including an $\bar s s$ pair.
Using the manifestly covariant spectator theory, and modeling the nucleon as a system of three constituent quarks with their own electromagnetic structure, we show that all four nucleon electromagnetic form factors can be very well described by a manifestly covariant nucleon wave function with zero orbital angular momentum. Since the concept of wave function depends on the formalism, the conclusions of light-cone theory requiring nonzero angular momentum components are not inconsistent with our results. We also show that our model gives a qualitatively correct description of deep inelastic sca…
We investigate collective multipole excitations for closed shell nuclei from 16O to 208Pb using correlated realistic nucleon -nucleon interactions in the framework of the random phase approximation (RPA). The dominant short-range central and tensor correlations a re treated explicitly within the Unitary Correlation Operator Method (UCOM), which provides a phase-shift equivalent correlated interaction V_UCOM adapted to simple uncorrelated Hilbert spaces. The same unitary transformation that defines the correlated interaction is used to derive correlated transition operators. Using V_UCOM we sol…
A review is presented of the development and current status of nuclear shell-model calculations in which the two-body effective interaction is derived from the free nucleon-nucleon potential. The significant progress made in this field within the last decade is emphasized, in particular as regards the so-called V-low-k approach to the renormalization of the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction. In the last part of the review we first give a survey of realistic shell-model calculations from early to present days. Then, we report recent results for neutron-rich nuclei near doubly magic 132Sn and for…
We upgrade a SU_6 quark-model description for the nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon interactions by improving the effective meson-exchange potentials acting between quarks. For the scalar- and vector-meson exchanges, the momentum-dependent higher-order term is incorporated to reduce the attractive effect of the central interaction at higher energies. The single-particle potentials of the nucleon and Lambda, predicted by the G-matrix calculation, now have proper repulsive behavior in the momentum region q_1=5 - 20 fm^-1. A moderate contribution of the spin-orbit interaction from the scalar-me…
Realistic nuclear potentials, derived within chiral perturbation theory, are a major breakthrough in modern nuclear structure theory, since they provide a direct link between nuclear physics and its underlying theory, namely the QCD. As a matter of fact, chiral potentials are tailored on the low-energy regime of nuclear structure physics, and chiral perturbation theory provides on the same footing two-nucleon forces as well as many-body ones. This feature fits well with modern advances in ab-initio methods and realistic shell-model. Here, we will review recent nuclear structure calculations, b…
We present calculations for the $c$-coefficients of the isobaric mass multiplet equation for nuclei from $A=42$ to $A=54$ based on input from three realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. We demonstrate that there is a clear dependence on the short-ranged charge-symmetry breaking (CSB) part of the strong interaction and that there is significant disagreement in the CSB part between the commonly used CD-Bonn, N$^3$LO, and Argonne V18 nucleon-nucleon interactions. In addition, we show that all three interactions give a CSB contribution to the $c$-coefficient that is too large when compared to ex…
A new linked cluster expansion for the calculation of ground state observables of complex nuclei with realistic interactions has been developed [1-3]; using the V8' potential [4] the ground state energy, density and momentum distribution of complex nuclei have been calculated and found to be in good agreement with the results of [5], obtained within the Fermi Hyper Netted Chain, and Variational Monte Carlo [6] approaches. Using the same cluster expansion, with wave function and correlations Realistic Calculation of the Effects of Nucleon-Nucleon Correlations in High-Energy Scattering Processes…
This paper is an homage to the seminal work of Gerry Brown and Tom Kuo, where shell model calculations were performed for 18O and 18F using an effective interaction derived from the Hamada-Johnston nucleon-nucleon potential. That work has been the first successful attempt to provide a description of nuclear structure properties starting from the free nucleon-nucleon potential. We shall compare the approach employed in the 1966 paper with the derivation of a modern realistic shell-model interaction for sd-shell nuclei, evidencing the progress that has been achieved during the last decades.
The structure of nucleon self-energy in nuclear matter is evaluated for various realistic models of the nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction. Starting from the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approximation without the usual angle-average approximation, the effects of hole-hole contributions and a self-consistent treatment within the framework of the Green function approach are investigated. Special attention is paid to the predictions for the spectral function originating from various models of the NN interaction which all yield an accurate fit for the NN phase shifts.
We study ground- and excited-state properties of all sd-shell nuclei with neutron and proton numbers 8 <= N,Z <= 20, based on a set of low-resolution two- and three-nucleon interactions that predict realistic saturation properties of nuclear matter. We focus on estimating the theoretical uncertainties due to variation of the resolution scale, the low-energy couplings, as well as from the many-body method. The experimental two-neutron and two-proton separation energies are reasonably well reproduced, with an uncertainty range of about 5 MeV. The first excited 2+ energies also show overall agree…
The contribution of a $ππ$-exchange three-body force to the three-nucleon binding energy is calculated in terms of a $πN$ amplitude. The latter is based on a meson-theoretical model of $πN$ interaction developed by the Jülich group. Similar to a previous study based on simple phenomenological $πN$ potentials a very small effect of the resulting three-body force is found. Possible origins of the two-orders-of-magnitude descrepancy between the present result and the values obtained for the Tucson-Melbourne three-body force are investigated. Evidence is provided that this discrepancy is most like…
The present paper is comprised of two parts. First, we give a brief survey of the theoretical framework for microscopic nuclear structure calculations starting from a free nucleon-nucleon potential. Then, we present some selected results of a comprehensive study of nuclei near doubly closed shells. In all these shell-model calculations we have made use of realistic effective interactions derived from the Bonn-A nucleon-nucleon potential by means of a G-matrix folded-diagram method. We show that this kind of calculation yields a very good agreement with experiment for all the nuclei considered.…
The three-nucleon bound and scattering equations are solved in momentum space for a coupled-channel Hamiltonian. The Hamiltonian couples the purely nucleonic sector of Hilbert space with a sector in which one nucleon is excited to a $Δ$ isobar. The interaction consists of irreducible two-baryon and irreducible three-baryon potentials. The calculation keeps only the purely nucleonic one among the irreducible three-baryon potentials. The coupled-channel two-baryon potential yields additional reducible contributions to the three-nucleon force. The Coulomb interaction between the two protons is in…
We consider the nucleon self-energy in nuclear matter in the absence of Pauli blocking. It is evaluated using the partial-wave analysis of $NN$ scattering data. Our results are compared with that of a realistic calculation to estimate the effect of this blocking. It is also possible to use our results as a check on the realistic calculations.
The total neutron-Nucleus cross section has been calculated within an approach which takes into account nucleon-nucleon correlations, Glauber multiple scattering and inelastic shadowing corrections. Nuclear targets ranging from 4He to 208Pb and neutron incident momentum ranging from 3 to 300 GeV/c, have been considered. Correlations have been introduced by two different approaches leading to the same results. The commonly used approximation, consisting in treating nuclear effects only by a product of one-body densities, is carefully analyzed and it is shown that the effects of realistic correl…
A recently developed three-dimensional Faddeev integral equations for three-nucleon bound state with two-nucleon interactions have been solved in momentum space for Bonn-B potential.
First self-consistent realistic shell-model calculation for the light p-shell nuclei is performed, starting from the high-precision nucleon-nucleon (NN) CD-Bonn potential. This realistic potential is renormalized deriving a low-momentum NN potential V-low-k that preserves exactly the two-nucleon low-energy physics. This V-low-k is suitable to derive a self-consistent Hartree-Fock basis that is employed to derive both effective single-particle energies and residual two-body matrix elements for the shell-model hamiltonian. Results obtained show the reliability of such a fundamental microscopic a…
The nucleon-nucleon (NN) t-matrix is calculated directly as function of two vector momenta for different realistic NN potentials. To facilitate this a formalism is developed for solving the two-nucleon Lippmann-Schwinger equation in momentum space without employing a partial wave decomposition. The total spin is treated in a helicity representation. Two different realistic NN interactions, one defined in momentum space and one in coordinate space, are presented in a form suited for this formulation. The angular and momentum dependence of the full amplitude is studied and displayed. A partial w…
The inelastic neutral reaction of neutrino on 4He is calculated microscopically, including full final state interaction among the four nucleons. The calculation is performed using the Lorentz integral transform (LIT) method and the hyperspherical-harmonic effective interaction approach (EIHH), with a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction. A detailed energy dependent calculation is given in the impulse approximation. With respect to previous calculations, this work predicts an increased reaction cross-section by 10%-30% for neutrino temperature up to 15 MeV.
We solve the Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations for 3N and 4N bound states based on the most modern realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. We include different realistic 3N forces. It is shown that all 3N force models can remove the underbinding of the triton and alpha-particle which one obtains with existing NN interactions. The agreement of theoretical predictions and the experimental binding energy is quite good and there is little room left for the action of four-nucleon forces in the alpha-particle. The effect of 3N forces on the wave function is investigated.
We report variational calculations of symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter, using the new Argonne v18 two-nucleon and Urbana IX three-nucleon interactions. At the equilibrium density of 0.16 fm^-3 the two-nucleon densities in symmetric nuclear matter are found to exhibit a short-range spin-isospin structure similar to that found in light nuclei. We also find that both symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter undergo transitions to phases with pion condensation at densities of 0.32 fm^-3 and 0.2 fm^-3, respectively. Neither transtion occurs with the Urbana v14 two-nucleon in…
The bound states of $^3$H and $^3$He have been calculated using the Argonne $v_{18}$ plus the Urbana three-nucleon potential. The isospin $T=3/2$ state have been included in the calculations as well as the $n$-$p$ mass difference. The $^3$H-$^3$He mass difference has been evaluated through the charge dependent terms explicitly included in the two-body potential. The calculations have been performed using two different methods: the solution of the Faddeev equations in momentum space and the expansion on the correlated hyperspherical harmonic basis. The results are in agreement within 0.1% and c…
We study the possible relationship between the saturation properties of nuclear matter and the inclusion of non-locality in the nucleon-nucleon interaction. To this purpose we compute the saturation curve of nuclear matter within the Bethe-Brueckner-Goldstone theory using a recently proposed realistic non-local potential, and compare it with the corresponding curves obtained with a purely local realistic interaction (Argonne v$_{18}$) and the most recent version of the one-boson exchange potential (CD Bonn). We find that the inclusion of non-locality in the two-nucleon bare interaction strongl…
Basing on the thickness (profile) function, previously obtained for the realistic Fermi type distribution of nucleons in nuclei, calculations are made of the microscopic eikonal phases of the nucleus-nucleus scattering and the total reaction cross- sections. In so doing, the phase is deduced to the one-dimensional integral provided that the Gaussian density distribution for the projectile nucleus and an arbitrary shape of the thickness density for the target nucleus are used. The problems of obtaining parameters of the "point" nucleon density are considered. A possibility of approximating the …
The structure of A=3 low-energy scattering states is described using the hyperspherical harmonics method with realistic Hamiltonian models, consisting of two- and three-nucleon interactions. Both coordinate and momentum space two-nucleon potential models are considered.
The 4He total photoabsorption cross section is calculated with the realistic nucleon-nucleon potential Argonne V18 and the three-nucleon force (3NF) Urbana IX. Final state interaction is included rigorously via the Lorentz Integral Transform method. A rather pronounced giant resonance with peak cross sections of 3 (3.2) mb is obtained with (without) 3NF. Above 50 MeV strong 3NF effects, up to 35%, are present. Good agreement with experiment is found close to threshold. A comparison in the giant resonance region is inconclusive, since present data do not show a unique picture.
We investigate the role of the central two-body nucleon-nucleon correlations on typical quantities observed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Basic correlation measures, such as the fluctuations of the participant eccentricity, initial size fluctuations, or the fluctuations of the number of sources producing particles, are sensitive at the level 10-20% to the inclusion of the two-body correlations. However, the realistic correlation function gives virtually indistinguishable results from the {\em hard-core repulsion} with the expulsion distance set to $\sim 0.9$ fm. In the second part of t…
We develop a new approach to production of the spectator nucleons in the heavy ion collisions. The energy transfer to the spectator system is calculated using the Monte Carlo based on the updated version of our generator of configurations in colliding nuclei which includes a realistic account of short-range correlations in nuclei. The transferred energy distributions are calculated within the framework of the Glauber multiple scattering theory, taking into account all the individual inelastic and elastic collisions using an independent realistic calculation of the potential energy contribution…
We calculate nucleon-nucleon cross sections in the nuclear medium with unequal densities of protons and neutrons. We use the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach together with realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials. We examine the effect of neutron/proton asymmetry and find that, although generally mild, it can be significant in specific regions of the phase space under consideration.
