We aim to measure the physical properties of the hot X-ray corona of two active galactic nuclei, NGC 4388 and NGC 2110. We analysed the hard X-ray (20-300 keV) INTEGRAL spectrum in conjunction with archival XMM-Newton and NuSTAR data. The X-ray spectrum of both sources is phenomenologically well described by an absorbed cut-off power law. In agreement with previous results, we find no evidence of a Compton reflection component in these sources. We obtain a high-energy cut-off of $200^{+75}_{-40}$ keV for NGC 4388 and $320^{+100}_{-60}$ keV for NGC 2110. A fit with a thermal Comptonisation model yields a coronal temperature of $80^{+45}_{-20}$ keV and $75^{+20}_{-15}$ keV, respectively, and an optical depth of approximately two, assuming a spherical geometry. The coronal temperature and luminosity of both sources are consistent with pair production that acts as a thermostat for the thermal plasma. These results emphasise the importance of good signal-to-noise X-ray data above 100 keV to probe the high-energy emission of AGNs.
NGC 1068, a nearby type-2 Seyfert galaxy, is reported as the hottest neutrino spot in the 10-year survey data of IceCube. Although there are several different possibilities for the generation of high-energy neutrinos in astrophysical sources, feasible scenarios allowing such emission in NGC 1068 have not yet been firmly defined. We show that the flux level of GeV and neutrino emission observed from NGC 1068 implies that the neutrino emission can be produced only in the vicinity of the supermassive black hole in the center of the galaxy. The coronal parameters, such as magnetic field strength a…

We perform the NuSTAR and Swift/XRT joint energy spectral fitting of simultaneous observations from the broad-line Seyfert 1.5 galaxy NGC 5273. When fitted with the combination of an exponential cut-off power-law and a reflection model, a high energy cut-off is detected at 143$^{+96}_{-40}$ keV with 2-sigma significance. Existence of such cut-off is also consistent with the observed Comptonizing electron temperature when fitted with a Comptonization model independently. We observe a moderate hard X-ray variability of the source over the time-scale of ~12 years using INTEGRAL/ISGRI observations…
We performed a detailed broadband spectral and timing analysis of a small flaring event of ~120 ks in a narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 4051 using simultaneous XMM-Newton and NuSTAR observations. The ~300 ks long NuSTAR observation and the overlapping XMM-Newton exposure were segregated into pre-flare, flare, and post-flare segments. During the flare, the NuSTAR count rate peaked at 2.5 times the mean count rate before the flare. Using various physical and phenomenological models, we examined the 0.3-50 keV X-ray spectrum, which consists of a primary continuum, reprocessed emission, warm abso…
Using VLTI/GRAVITY and SINFONI data, we investigate the sub-pc gas and dust structure around the nearby type 1 AGN hosted by NGC 3783. The K-band coverage of GRAVITY uniquely allows a simultaneous analysis of the size and kinematics of the broad line region (BLR), the size and structure of the near-IR continuum emitting hot dust, and the size of the coronal line region (CLR). We find the BLR probed through broad Br$γ$ emission is well described by a rotating, thick disk with a radial distribution of clouds peaking in the inner region. In our BLR model the physical mean radius of 16 light days …

We report on the NuSTAR observations of two bright Seyfert 1 galaxies, namely MCG +8-11-11 (100 ks) and NGC 6814 (150 ks). The main goal of these observations was to investigate the Comptonization mechanisms acting in the innermost regions of AGN which are believed to be responsible for the UV/X-ray emission. The spectroscopic analysis of the NuSTAR spectra of these two sources revealed that although they had different properties overall (black hole masses, luminosity and Eddington ratios) they had very similar coronal properties. Both presented a power law spectrum with a high-energy cutoff a…

We present here the results of our analysis of X-ray properties of Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 3281, based on the observational data obtained by XMM-Newton and INTEGRAL within the energy ranges 0.2-12 keV and 20-150 keV, respectively. The XMM-Newton spectrum of this object is presented for the first time. We show that fitting the X-ray spectrum of this galaxy with models based on the reflection from the disc with infinite column density yields non-physical results. More appropriate fit takes into account both transmitted and reflected emission, passed through a gas-dusty torus-like structure. Keeping…

We study the X-ray properties of two elliptical galaxies, NGC 1270 and NGC 1272, in the core of the Perseus cluster with deep Chandra observations. Both galaxies have central supermassive black holes, the mass of which is $6.0 \times 10^{9}$ M$_{\odot}$ and $2.0 \times 10^{9}$ M$_{\odot}$ respectively. Our aim is to examine relatively cool soft X-ray emitting gas within the central region of these massive early-type galaxies. Such gas, referred to as a Minicorona in previous studies is common in the core of large elliptical cluster galaxies. It has not been completely stripped or evaporated by…
We describe the analysis of the seven broad-band X-ray continuum observations of the archetypal Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 5548 that were obtained with XMM-Newton or Chandra, simultaneously with high-energy (> 10 keV) observations with NuSTAR and INTEGRAL. These data were obtained as part of a multiwavelength campaign undertaken from the summer of 2013 till early 2014. We find evidence of a high-energy cut-off in at least one observation, which we attribute to thermal Comptonization, and a constant reflected component that is likely due to neutral material at least a few light months away from the c…
Cygnus X-1 is the candidate with the highest probability of containing a black hole among the X-ray binary systems in the Galaxy. It is also by far the most often studied of these objects. Recently, the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory Imager onboard then Integral satellite ({\it INTEGRAL}/IBIS) detected strong polarization in the high-energy radiation of this source, between 400 keV and 2 MeV. This radiation has been attributed to a jet launched by the black hole. We consider whether the corona around the black hole might be the site of production of the polarized emission inst…
We recently reported the discovery of a candidate jet-driving microquasar (S10) in the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 300. However, in the absence of kinematic information, we could not reliably determine the jet power or the dynamical age of the jet cavity. Here, we present optical MUSE integral field unit (IFU) observations of S10, which reveal a bipolar line-emitting jet structure surrounding a continuum-emitting central source. The optical jet lobes of S10 have a total extent of $\sim$ 40 pc and a shock velocity of $\sim$ 150 km s$^{-1}$. Together with the jet kinematics, we exploit the MUSE cov…
We report on daily monitoring of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 7469, around 95 GHz and 143 GHz, with the IRAM 30 m radio telescope, and with the Swift X-Ray and UV/Optical telescopes, over an overlapping period of 45 days. The source was observed on 36 days with IRAM, and the flux density in both mm bands was on average $\sim 10$ mJy, but varied by $\pm50\%$, and by up to a factor of 2 between days. The present IRAM variability parameters are consistent with earlier CARMA monitoring, which had only 18 data points. The X-ray light curve of NGC 7469 over the same period spans a factor of 5 in flux with…
The corona is an integral component of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) which produces the bulk of the X-ray emission above 1--2 keV. However, many of its physical properties and the mechanisms powering this emission remain a mystery. In particular, the temperature of the coronal plasma has been difficult to constrain for large samples of AGN, as constraints require high quality broadband X-ray spectral coverage extending above 10 keV in order to measure the high energy cutoff, which provides constraints on the combination of coronal optical depth and temperature. We present constraints on the cor…
IGRJ17361-4441 is a newly discovered INTEGRAL hard X-ray transient, located in the globular cluster NGC6388. We report here the results of the X-ray and radio observations performed with Swift, INTEGRAL, RXTE, and the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) after the discovery of the source on 2011 August 11. In the X-ray domain, IGRJ17361-4441 showed virtually constant flux and spectral parameters up to 18 days from the onset of the outburst. The broad-band (0.5-100 keV) spectrum of the source could be reasonably well described by using an absorbed power-law component with a high energy cut-…
We present X-ray timing and spectral analyses of simultaneous 150 ks Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) and Suzaku X-ray observations of the Seyfert 1.5 galaxy NGC 4151. We disentangle the continuum emission, absorption, and reflection properties of the active galactic nucleus (AGN) by applying inner accretion disk reflection and absorption-dominated models. With a time-averaged spectral analysis, we find strong evidence for relativistic reflection from the inner accretion disk. We find that relativistic emission arises from a highly ionized inner accretion disk with a steep emissi…
(Abridged) We present a detailed broadband X-ray spectrum of NGC 4258, with the goal of precisely measuring the coronal luminosity and accretion flow properties of the AGN, and track any possible variation across two decades of observations. We collect archival XMM-Newton, Chandra, Swift/BAT and NuSTAR spectroscopic observations spanning 15 years, and fit them with a suite of state of the art models, including a warped disk model which is suspected to provide the well known obscuration observed in the X-rays. We complement this information with archival results from the literature. Clear spect…
The AGN NGC 2110 presents a peculiar case among the Seyfert 2 galaxies, as it displays also features of radio-loud objects and is classified as FR-I radio galaxy. Here we analyse simultaneous INTEGRAL and Swift data taken in 2008 and 2009. We reconstruct the spectral energy distribution in order to provide further insight. The combined X-ray spectrum is well represented by an absorbed cut-off power law model plus soft excess. Combining all available data, the spectrum appears flat (photon index 1.25 +- 0.04) with the high-energy cut-off being at 82 +- 9 keV. The intrinsic absorption is moderat…
