We explore the directed, elliptic, triangular and quadrangular flow of deuterons in Au+Au reactions at a beam energy of 1.23 AGeV within the UrQMD approach. These investigations are of direct relevance for the HADES experiment at GSI that has recently presented first data on the flow of light clusters in Au+Au collisions at 1.23 AGeV. To address the deuteron flow, UrQMD has been extended to include deuteron formation by coalescence. We find that this ansatz provides a very good description of the measured deuteron flow data, if a hard equation of state is used for the simulation. In addition we show that light cluster formation has a sizable impact on the proton flow and has to be taken into account to obtain reliable results in the forward/backward region. Based on the observed scaling of the flow, which is a natural result of coalescence, we conclude that deuteron production at GSI energies is a final state recombination effect. Finally, we also discuss the scaling relations of the higher order flow components up to $v_4$. We show that $v_3 \sim v_1v_2$ and $v_4 \sim v_2^2$ as function of transverse momentum and that the integrated $v_2^2 \sim v_4$ over the investigated energy range from $E_{lab}$=0.1 AGeV to 40 AGeV.
Collective flows of protons and deuterons for Au + Au collisions at beam energy $E_{beam}$ = 1.23 $A$ GeV were simulated by an Isospin dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics (IQMD) model. Two coalescence models, namely naive coalescence and dynamical coalescence models, for the formation of deuterons are compared. After reasonable match of rapidity spectra of protons and deuterons to the High Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer (HADES) data is reached, we apply an event-plane method to calculate the first four-order collective flow coefficients as well as the ratios of $<v_4>/<v_2>^2$ and $<v_3>/…
Total reaction cross sections of deuteron, $σ_d^{\rm R}$, are calculated by a microscopic three-body reaction model. The reaction model has no free adjustable parameter and applicable to reactions at various deuteron incident energies $E_d$ and with both stable and unstable nuclei. The predicted $σ_d^{\rm R}$ are consistent with those evaluated by a phenomenological optical potential for $E_d\leq 200$ MeV in which the potential has been parametrized. A simple formula of $σ_d^{\rm R}$ up to $E_d=1$ GeV, as a function of $E_d$, the target mass number $A$ and its atomic number $Z$, is given.
Exclusive photodisintegration of the deuteron in the 1-4GeV range is described in terms of a simple covariant and gauge invariant approach using an effective counting rule as the hard part of the d-np vertex. At a scattering angle of theta_cm=90 degrees a prescaling behavior of the differential cross section proportional to 1/s^(n-2) with n ~ 12 is obtained; going away from 90 degrees the value of n decreases slowly, in qualitative agreement with the recent data.
The deuteron fragmentation by fast protons has been studied both near the kinematics of quasi-free proton - proton scattering and far away from it. We have concentrated on the interplay between different reaction mechanisms associated with the antisymmetrization of the initial and final states and rescattering contributions. A multiple-scattering-expansion technique has been applied to evaluate the reaction amplitude. An essential element of this approach in the momentum representation is the use of the effective nucleon- nucleon interaction constructed by Love and Franey as a two-body t-matri…
The vector and tensor analysing powers in deuteron-proton elastic scattering have been measured in the forward hemisphere at deuteron kinetic energies of 1.2 GeV and 2.27 GeV using the ANKE spectrometer at the COSY storage ring. The results are compared with other experimental data and with predictions made within the framework of Glauber multiple scattering theory.
Deuteron two-body photodisintegration is analysed within the framework of the Quark-Gluon Strings Model. The model describes fairly well the recent experimental data from TJNAF in the few GeV region. Angular distributions at different $γ$-energies are presented and the effect of a forward-backward asymmetry is discussed. New results from the QGSM for polarization observables from 1.5 -- 6 GeV are presented and compared with the available data.
Deuteron two-body photodisintegration is analysed within the framework of the Quark-Gluon Strings Model. It is found that the forward-backward angle asymmetry predicted by the model is confirmed by the recent data at different photon energies from Jlab. New calculations for polarization observables, the cross section asymmetry $Σ$ and the polarization transfer $C_{z^{\prime}}$, for photon energies $(1.2\div6)$ GeV are presented and compared with the data available up to 2 GeV.
We exploit a relationship between the Structure Functions of nucleons, the physical deuteron and of a deuteron, composed of point-nucleons to compute angular distributions of inclusive cross sections of 4.05 GeV electrons. We report general agreement with data and interpret the remaining discrepancies. We discuss the potential of the data for information on neutron structure functions $F_k^n(x,Q^2)$ and the static form factor $G_M^n(Q^2)$.
The $dp\to dp$ and $dd\to ^3He n$ reactions are considered in the energy range from few hundred MeV up to 1 GeV. The approach is based on the multiple-scattering theory, where the few-body collisions are presented through two-body ones. The high-energy nucleon-nucleon interactions are described by t-matrix, which is parameterized in accordance with the modern phase-shift analysis data. The special attention is given to investigation of the rescattering effects in these reactions. The theoretical predictions are obtained for the differential cross sections, vector and tensor analyzing powers. A…
Mechanisms of the charge exchange reaction $dp\to \{pp\}_{\!s} Nπ$, where $\{pp\}_{\!s}$ is a two-proton system at low excitation energy, are studied at beam energies 1 -- 2 GeV and for invariant masses $M_X$ of the final $Nπ$ system that correspond to the formation of the $Δ(1232)$ isobar. The direct mechanism, where the initial proton is excited into the $Δ(1232)$, dominates and explains the existing data on the unpolarized differential cross section and spherical tensor analyzing power $T_{22}$ for $M_X> 1.2$ GeV/$c^2$. However, this model fails to describe $T_{20}.
The article is devoted to the relativistic study of elastic $pD$ backward scattering based on the one-nucleon exchange diagram. Calculations were performed using relativistic deuteron wave functions obtained by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation in the Minkowski space with relativistic separable potentials. The unpolarized differential cross section as well as some polarization observables of the reaction for initial proton momentum up to 7.3 GeV were calculated. The obtained results are compared with the calculations of other authors.
Within a transport model coupled with a microscopic coalescence model, the directed and elliptic flows of protons and deuterons as well as their scalling properties are studied in the centrality of 20-30% Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.4$ GeV. It is found that the flows as well as their scaling properties simulated with the isospin- and momentum-dependent nuclear mean field with an incompressibility $K_{0}=230$ MeV fit fairly the HADES data, while those simulated with the commonly used momentum-independent nuclear mean field with an incompressibility $K_{0}=380$ MeV can only fit part…
The nuclear effects in the spin-dependent structure function $g_1$ of the deuteron are studied in the kinematics of future experiments at CEBAF, ($ν\leq 3~GeV, ~Q^2 \leq 2~GeV^2$). The magnitude of the nuclear effects is found to be significantly larger than the one occurring in deep inelastic scattering ($ν\to \infty, ~Q^2\to \infty$). We discuss the mechanism leading to large effects in the region of the nucleon resonances. A possibility to measure the neutron structure functions in the CEBAF experiments with deuterium is analysed, and conclusions about the experimental study of the $Q^2$ de…
The photoproduction of $π^0$-mesons from the nucleon and deuteron has been studied for incidents of photon energies up to 1.5 GeV. By using the MAID-2007 model for the process on the nucleon, we predict results for the unpolarized and helicity-dependent total cross sections of the semi-exclusive reaction $γd\rightarrowπ^0X$ ($X=np+d$) with the inclusion of rescattering effects. We find that rescattering effects yield a substantially large contribution. The extracted results are compared with the available experimental data and a satisfactory agreement is obtained. In addition, the contribution…
We would attempt here to understand some properties of the transverse momentum ($p_T$) and rapidity ($y$) spectra on production of deuteron ($d$) and antideuteron($\overline{d}$) in lead-lead $(Pb+Pb)$ collisions at 158A GeV recently reported by NA49 collaboration. Starting from some basic properties of $p+p$ reactions for production of secondary proton-antiprotons the cases of production of the composite set of particles, like $d$ and $\overline{d}$, would be analysed. Some ratio-behaviours would also be dealt with in the light of the same approaches. It is found that the combination of the m…
We studied the effects of centrality fluctuation and deuteron formation on the cumulants ($C_n$) and correlation functions ($κ_n$) of protons up to sixth order in most central ($b<3$ fm) Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ = 3 GeV from a microscopic transport model (JAM). The results are presented as a function of rapidity acceptance within transverse momentum $0.4<p_{T}<2 $ GeV/$c$. We compared the results obtained by centrality bin width correction (CBWC) using charged reference particle multiplicity with CBWC done using impact parameter bins. It was found that at low energies the cen…
Within the ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model, in which the Lorentz-covariant treatment of nuclear mean-field potential is considered, the fluctuations of net-baryon, net-charge and deuterons multiplicity distributions in Au+Au head-on collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=3.0-5.0$ GeV are calculated. The results show that the nuclear mean-field potential can significantly enhance the magnitude of baryon number fluctuations in narrow rapidity windows, and this enhancement rapidly weakens with increasing beam energy. However, for proton and net-charge number fluctuations, the me…
We study the transverse momentum spectra of light nuclei (deuteron, anti-deuteron and triton) produced in Gold-Gold (Au-Au) collisions in different centrality bins by the blast wave model with Tsallis statistics. The model results are in agreement with the experimental data measured by STAR Collaboration in special transverse momentum ranges. We extracted the kinetic freezeout temperature, transverse flow velocity and kinetic freezeout volume. It is observed that kinetic freezeout temperature and transverse flow velocity increases initially, and then saturates from 14.5-39 GeV, while the kinet…
The charge-exchange reaction pd->npp at 1 GeV projectile proton energy is studied in the multiple-scattering expansion technique. This reaction is considered in a special kinematics, when the transfer momentum from the beam proton to fast neutron is close to zero. The differential cross section and a set of polarization observables are calculated. It was shown that contribution of the final state interaction between two protons is very significant.
We review a concept of the Moscow potential (MP) of the $NN$ interaction. On the basis of this concept we derive by quantum inversion optical partial potentials from the modern partial-wave analysis (PWA) data and deuteron properties. Point-form (PF) relativistic quantum mechanics (RQM) is applied to the two-body deuteron photodisintegration. Calculations of the cross-section angular distributions cover photon energies between 1.1 and 2.5 GeV. Good agreement between our theory and recent experimental data confirms the concept of deep attractive Moscow potential with forbidden $S$- and $P$-stat…
Background: Neutrino-nucleus quasi-elastic scattering is crucial to interpret the neutrino oscillation results in long baseline neutrino experiments. There are rather large uncertainties in the cross section, due to insufficient knowledge on the role of two-body weak currents. Purpose: Determine the role of two-body weak currents in neutrino-deuteron quasi-elastic scattering up to GeV energies. Methods: Calculate cross sections for inclusive neutrino scattering off deuteron induced by neutral and charge-changing weak currents, from threshold up to GeV energies, using the Argonne $v_{18}$ poten…
We measure cross sections for residual nuclide formation in the mass range 6 < A < 97 caused by bombardment with protons and deuterons of 3.65 GeV/nucleon energy of enriched tin isotopes (112-Sn, 118-Sn, 120-Sn, 124-Sn). The experimental data are compared with calculations by the codes FLUKA, LAHET, CEM03, and LAQGSM03. Scaling behavior is observed for the whole mass region of residual nuclei, showing a possible multifragmentation mechanism for the formation of light products (6 < A < 31). Our analysis of the isoscaling dependence also shows a possible contribution of multifragmentation to the…
Quasi-binary reaction of the deuteron breakup $p+d\to (pp)+n$ with the final proton-proton pair $(pp)$ in the $^1S_0$ state is analyzed at initial energies $0.5 - 2$ GeV in the kinematics of backward elastic pd-scattering $pd\to dp$. On the basis of the main mechanisms of the $pd\to dp$ process, including initial and final state interaction, we show that unpolarized cross section and spin observables of this reaction exhibit important properties of the half-off-shell $pp(^1S_0)$-scattering amplitude, which are relevant to the nucleon-nucleon interaction at short distances.
The d(e,e'p) cross section at a momentum transfer of 3.5 (GeV/c)^2 was measured over a kinematical range that made it possible to study this reaction for a set of fixed missing momenta as a function of the neutron recoil angle theta_nq and to extract missing momentum distributions for fixed values of theta_nq up to 0.55 GeV/c. In the region of 35 (deg) <= theta_nq <= 45 (deg) recent calculations, which predict that final state interactions are small, agree reasonably well with the experimental data. Therefore these experimental reduced cross sections provide direct access to the high momentum …
This study introduces common parameterizations of the quasi-elastic peak in the electron scattering spectrum off deuterium and provides the comparison of the parameterized cross sections with published experimental data. The comparison is performed in the wide $Q^{2}$ range from $\sim$0.3 GeV$^{2}$ to $\sim$4 GeV$^{2}$. In this way the performance of the parameterizations and their ability to describe experimental measurements are impartially tested and the conclusion on the description reliability is made.
Coherent photoproduction of the neutral pion and eta meson on the deuteron, $γ{d}${$\to$}$π^0η{d}$, has been experimentally studied at incident photon energies ranging from the reaction threshold to 1.15 GeV. The total cross section demonstrates a rapid rise below 1 GeV. The data are underestimated by the existing theoretical calculations based on quasi-free $π^0 η$ photoproduction on the nucleon followed by deuteron coalescence. At the same time, the data are rather well reproduced by the calculations taking into account the final-state interaction. We have also measured for the first time th…
Higher-twist effects in the low-order moments of the longitudinal and transverse structure functions of proton and deuteron have been analyzed using available phenomenological fits of existing data in the Q**2 range between 1 and 20 (GeV/c)**2. Both twist-4 and twist-6 contributions have been determined adopting the Natchmann definition of moments, which allows to disentangle properly target-mass effects. The extraction of the matrix elements of the relevant twist-4 operators, describing quark-quark and quark-gluon correlations, is carried out in case of the second moment. The need of transver…
Within a nuclear model that the deuteron has NN and πNN components, we derive convolution formula for investigating the Drell-Yan process in proton-deuteron (pd) reactions. The contribution from the πNN component is expressed in terms of a pion momentum distribution that depends sensitively on the πNN form factor. With a πNN form factor determined by fitting the πN scattering data up to invariant mass W = 1.3 GeV, we find that the pion-exchange and nucleon Fermi-motion effects can change significantly the ratios between the proton-deuteron and proton-proton Drell-Yan cross sections, R_{pd/pp} …
The integrated cross section $\widetildeσ$ for a special type of double polarized proton-deuteron scattering constitutes a null test forvtime-invariance violating but P-parity conserving effects. Using the Glauber theory for the $pd$ elastic scattering and different types of phenomenological T-odd P-even NN-interactions we show that the contribution of the lowest mass meson exchange, i.e. the $ρ$-meson, to the null-test signal $\widetildeσ$ vanishes. Variation of the cross section $\widetildeσ$ due to strong hadronic and Coulomb interaction is studied and its energy dependence is calculated in…
The role of the short-range part (repulsive core) of the proton-neutron ($pn$) potential in deuteron elastic breakup processes is investigated. A simplified one-range Gaussian potential and the Argonne V4' (AV4') central potential are adopted in the continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) method. The deuteron breakup cross sections calculated with these two potentials are compared. The repulsive core is found not to affect the deuteron breakup cross sections at energies from 40 MeV to 1 GeV. To understand this result, an analysis of the peripherality of the elastic breakup processes conc…
The charge-exchange break-up of polarised deuterons pol{d}p -> {pp}n, where the final {pp} diproton system has a very low excitation energy and hence is mainly in the 1S0 state, is a powerful tool to probe the spin-flip terms in the proton-neutron charge-exchange scattering. Recent measurements with the ANKE spectrometer at the COSY storage ring at 1.6, 1.8, and 2.27 GeV have extended these studies into the pion-production regime in order to investigate the mechanism for the excitation of the Delta(1232) isobar in the pol{d}p -> {pp}X reaction. Values of the differential cross section and two …
Production of deuterons by coalescence has an important influence on the moments of the observed proton number distribution. Therefore, this effect must be taken into account when physics conclusions about baryon number fluctuation are drawn from the measurement of proton number fluctuations. We also show that a measurement of the third and fourth moments of the deuteron number distribution would allow to distinguish whether deuterons are produced statistically or by coalescence.
Analysis of the $nd\to p(nn)$ reaction in a GeV-energy region is performed in the framework based on the multiple-scattering theory for the few-nucleon system. The special kinematic condition, when momentum transfer from neutron beam to final proton closes to zero, is considered. The possibility to extract the spin-dependent term of the elementary $np\to pn $ amplitude from $nd$-breakup process is investigated. The energy dependence of the ratio $R=\frac{dσ_{nd}} {dΩ} / \frac{dσ_{np}}{dΩ}$ is obtained taking account of the final-state interaction of the two outgoing neutrons in $^1 S_0$-state.
Deuteron breakup processes $p+d\to (NN)_{s,t}+N$ are studied in the kinematics of backward elastic pd-scattering at law relative momenta of the NN-pair $k\sim 0-50 MeV/c$ for initial energies $T_0=0.5-2.5 GeV$ in the framework of the known mechanisms of the $pd\to dp$ process including rescatterings in the initial and final states. A considerable suppression of the $Δ-$ and $N^*-$ isobar excitation mechanisms is found for the production of the singlet $(NN)_s$-pair. As a result, one nucleon exchange mechanism can be identified in the cross section and polarization observables by the node of th…
A systematic analysis of nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitudes is available up to a laboratory energy of $3$~GeV in case of the $pp$ system and up to $1.2$ GeV for $pn$. At higher energies there is only incomplete experimental information on $pp$ elastic scattering, whereas data for the $pn$ system are very scarce. We apply the spin-dependent Glauber theory to calculate spin observables of $pd$ elastic scattering at $3$-$50$ GeV/c using $pp$ amplitudes available in the literature and parametrized within the Regge formalism. The calculated vector $A_y^p$, $A_y^d$ and tensor $A_{xx}$, $A_{yy}$ a…
The deuteron coalescence parameter $B_2$ in proton+proton and nucleus+nucleus collisions in the energy range of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 900 - 7000 GeV for proton+proton and $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 2 - 2760 GeV for nucleus+nucleus collisions is analyzed with the Ultrarelativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) transport model, supplemented by an event-by-event phase space coalescence model for deuteron and anti-deuteron production. The results are compared to data by the E866, E877, PHENIX, STAR and ALICE experiments. The $B_2$ values are calculated from the final spectra of protons and deuterons. At low…
Nuclear effects in the spin-dependent structure function $g_1$ of the deuteron are studied in the kinematics of future experiments at CEBAF, ($ν\leq 3~GeV, ~Q^2 \leq 2~GeV^2$). The magnitude of nuclear effects is found to be significantly larger than the one occurring in deep inelastic scattering ($ν\to \infty, ~Q^2\to \infty$). A possibility to measure the neutron structure functions in the CEBAF experiments with deuterium is analysed. It is found that disregarding or improperly treating nuclear effects in the region of nucleon resonances would lead to the ``extraction" of an unreliable funct…
We calculate the binding energies for multi-nucleon bound states with the nuclear mass number less than or equal to 4 in 2+1 flavor QCD at the lattice spacing of a = 0.09 fm employing a relatively heavy quark mass corresponding to m_pi = 0.51 GeV. To distinguish a bound state from attractive scattering states, we investigate the volume dependence of the energy shift between the ground state and the state of free nucleons by changing the spatial extent of the lattice from 2.9 fm to 5.8 fm. We conclude that ^4He, ^3He, deuteron and dineutron are bound at m_pi = 0.51 GeV. We compare their binding…
The formation of deuterons in heavy-ion collisions at relativistic energies is investigated by employing two recently advanced models -- the Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) method and the coalescence model by embedding them in the PHQMD and the UrQMD transport approaches. While the coalescence mechanism combines nucleons into deuterons at the kinetic freeze-out hypersurface, the MST identifies the clusters during the different stages of time evolution. We find that both clustering procedures give very similar results for the deuteron observables in the UrQMD as well as in the PHQMD environment. Mo…
In ultraperipheral relativistic deuteron on heavy-ion collisions, a photon emitted from the heavy nucleus may dissociate the deuterium ion. We find deuterium breakup cross sections of 1.38 barns for deuterium-gold collisions at a center of mass energy of 200 GeV per nucleon, as studied at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, and 2.49 barns for deuterium-lead collisions at a center of mass energy of 6.2 TeV, as proposed for the Large Hadron Collider. This cross section includes an energy-independent 140 mb contribution from hadronic diffractive dissociation. At the LHC, the cross section is as …
By using the convolution formula derived within the framework of relativistic quantum mechanics, we have examined the Fermi Motion effects on the ratios R_{pd/pp}= sigma^{pd}/(2 sigma^{pp}) between the proton-proton (p-p) and proton-deuteron (p-d) Drell-Yan cross sections. We have found that in the small x_2 < 0.3 region, the Fermi Motion effect is less than 1% and our results for the ratios R_{pd/pp} = sigma^{pd}/(2 sigma^{pp}) agree well with the data at 800 GeV. In the large Bjorken x_2 > about 0.4 region, the p-d Drell-Yan cross sections can be influenced strongly by the Fermi motion effec…
The proton-proton fusion process p p->d e^+ nu_e is calculated at threshold to fifth order in pionless effective field theory. There are two unknown two-body currents contributing at the second and fourth orders. Combined with the previous results for neutrino-deuteron and antineutrino-deuteron scattering, computed to third order in the same approach, we conclude that a 10% measurement of reactor antineutrino-deuteron scattering measurement could constrain the p p->d e^+ nu_e rate to ~7% while a ~3% measurement of nu_e d-> e^- p p could constrain the pp rate to ~2%.
The hadronic transport model \textsc{art} is extended to include the production and annihilation of deuterons via the reactions $BB \leftrightarrow dM$, where $B$ and $M$ stand for baryons and mesons, respectively, as well as their elastic scattering with mesons and baryons in the hadronic matter. This new hadronic transport model is then used to study the transverse momentum spectrum and elliptic flow of deuterons in relativistic heavy ion collisions, with the initial hadron distributions after hadronization of produced quark-gluon plasma taken from a blast wave model. The results are compare…
We study elliptic and triangular flow in the collisions of deuteron-gold nuclei at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 200$ GeV at RHIC and of proton-lead nuclei at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV at the LHC, utilizing (3+1)-dimensional ideal hydrodynamics for the dynamic evolution of the fireball and a Glauber-based Monte-Carlo energy deposition model for simulating the fluctuating initial conditions. Sizable values of elliptic and triangular flow are obtained for both colliding systems, and the results are consistent with PHENIX, ALICE, ATLAS and CMS measurements. For these studied centralities, we find tha…
The processes of dielectron production in deuteron-proton collisions at intermediate incident deuteron beam energies are analyzed in the spectator model within the one-pion exchange reggeized approach. We focus mainly on the momentum and angle distributions of the proton-spectator and the proton emitted in quasi-free $NN$ processes at small angles in the laboratory frame. It is shown that the inclusion of many channels in quasi-free $NN$ interaction allows us to describe the HADES data quite satisfactorily at incident deuteron kinetic energies of about 2.5 GeV.
The production of slow nucleons in semi-inclusive deep inelastic electron scattering off the deuteron is investigated in the region $x \gsim 0.3$. It is shown that within the spectator mechanism the semi-inclusive cross section exhibits a scaling property even at moderate values of $Q^2$ ($\sim$ few $(GeV/c)^2$) accessible at present facilities, like $CEBAF$. Such a scaling property can be used as a model-independent test of the dominance of the spectator mechanism itself and provides an interesting tool to investigate the neutron structure function. The possibility of extracting model-indepen…
The study of the cosmic-ray deuteron and antideuteron flux receives an increasing interest in current astrophysics investigations. For both cases an important contribution is expected from the nuclear interactions of primary cosmic rays with intergalactic matter. In this work, deuteron and antideuteron production from 20 to 2.6$\times$10$^{7}$ GeV beam energy in p+p and p+A collisions were simulated using EPOS-LHC and Geant4's FTFP-BERT Monte Carlo models by adding an event-by-event coalescence model afterburner. These estimates depend on a single parameter ($p_0$) obtained from a fit to the d…
