We propose a new scheme for constraining the dark energy equation of state parameter/parameters based on the study of the evolution of the configuration entropy. We analyze a set of one parameter and two parameter dynamical dark energy models and find that the derivative of the configuration entropy in all the dynamical dark energy models exhibit a minimum. The magnitude of the minimum of the entropy rate is decided by both the parametrization of the equation of state as well as the associated parameters. The location of the minimum of the entropy rate is less sensitive to the form of the parametrization but depends on the associated parameters. We determine the best fit equations for the location and magnitude of the minimum of the entropy rate in terms of the parameter/parameters of the dark energy equation of state. These relations would allow us to constrain the dark energy equation of state parameter/parameters for any given parametrization provided the evolution of the configuration entropy in the Universe is known from observations.
The evolution of the configuration entropy of the mass distribution in the Universe is known to be governed by the growth rate of density perturbations and the expansion rate of the Universe. We consider the $Λ$CDM model and a set of dynamical dark energy models with different parametrization of the equation of state and explore the evolution of the configuration entropy in these models. We find that the nature of evolution of the configuration entropy depends on the adopted parametrization which may allow us to discern them from each other. The configuration entropy initially decreases with t…
We propose an alternative physical mechanism to explain the observed accelerated expansion of the Universe based on the configuration entropy of the cosmic web and its evolution. We show that the sheets, filaments and clusters in the cosmic web act as sinks whereas the voids act as the sources of information. The differential entropy of the cosmic velocity field increases with time and also acts as a source of entropy. The growth of non-linear structures and the emergence of the cosmic web may lead to a situation where the overall dissipation rate of information at the sinks are about to domin…
We discuss the relationship between dark matter and the entropy of the universe with the premise that dark matter exists in the form of primordial black holes (PBHs) in a hierarchy of mass tiers. The lightest tier are intermediate-mass PIMBHs within galaxies including the Milky Way. Supermassive black holes at galactic centres are in the second tier. We are led to speculate that there exists a third tier of extremely massive PBHs, more massive than entire galaxies. We discuss future observations by the Rubin Observatory and James Webb Space Telescope.
Perfect fluids are modeled by using an effective field theory approach which naturally gives a self-consistent and unambiguous description of the intrinsic non-adiabatic contribution to pressure variations. We study the impact of intrinsic entropy perturbation on the superhorizon dynamics of the curvature perturbation ${\cal R}$ in the dark sector. The dark sector, made of dark matter and dark energy is described as a single perfect fluid. The non-perturbative vorticity's dynamics and the Weinberg theorem violation for perfect fluids are also studied.
Dark Matter (DM) density is reduced if entropy production takes place after DM particles abundance is frozen out in the early universe. We study a possibility of such reduction due to entropy production in the electroweak phase transition (EWPT). We compare scenarios of entropy production in the standard model (SM) and its simplest extension, the two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM). Assuming the EWPT is of second order in the SM scenario and the first order in the 2HDM, we calculate the entropy release in these scenarios and the corresponding dilution of preexisting DM density in the early universe…
Being free from the initial singularity, bouncing cosmology serves as a promising alternative to inflation. However, the entropy production during the post-bounce phase is still unclear. In this work, we use a newly unveiled DM candidate (EQFIDM), which can directly freeze in thermal equilibrium shortly after bounce, to trace the entropy-producing decay process of residual bouncing field (RBF). Specifically, we present a model-independent formalism to obtain all nine possible types of the entropy-producing decay of RBF within a generic bouncing universe, and show that, due to the entropy produ…

The information entropy is here investigated in the context of early and late cosmology under the hypothesis that distinct phases of universe evolution are entangled between them. The approach is based on the \emph{entangled state ansatz}, representing a coarse-grained definition of primordial \emph{dark temperature} associated to an \emph{effective entangled energy density}. The dark temperature definition comes from assuming either Von Neumann or linear entropy as sources of cosmological thermodynamics. We interpret the involved information entropies by means of probabilities of forming stru…
In order to apply holography and entropy relations to the whole universe, which is a gravitational and thus nonextensive system, for consistency one should use the generalized definition for the universe horizon entropy, namely Tsallis nonextensive entropy. We formulate Tsallis holographic dark energy, which is a generalization of standard holographic dark energy quantified by a new dimensionless parameter $δ$, possessing the latter as a particular sub-case. We provide a simple differential equation for the dark energy density parameter, as well as an analytical expression for its equation-of-…
We study the emergence of entropy in gravitational production of dark matter particles, ultra light scalars minimally coupled to gravity and heavier fermions, from inflation to radiation domination (RD). Initial conditions correspond to dark matter fields in their Bunch-Davies vacua during inflation. The "out" states are correlated particle-antiparticle pairs, and the distribution function is found in both cases. In the adiabatic regime the density matrix features rapid decoherence by dephasing from interference effects in the basis of "out" particle states, effectively reducing it to a diagon…
In this work, we analyzed the effect of different prescriptions of the IR cutoffs, namely the Hubble horizon cutoff, particle horizon cutoff, Granda and Oliveros horizon cut off, and the Ricci horizon cutoff on the growth rate of clustering for the Tsallis holographic dark energy (THDE) model in an FRW universe devoid of any interactions between the dark Universe. Furthermore, we used the concept of configurational entropy to derive constraints (qualitatively) on the model parameters for the THDE model in each IR cutoff prescription from the fact that the rate of change of configurational entr…
We apply the holographic principle in the cosmological context through the nonadditive Tsallis entropy, used to describe the thermodynamic properties of nonstandard statistical systems such as the gravitational ones. Assuming the future event horizon as the infrared cutoff, we build a dark energy model free from cosmological inconsistencies, which includes standard thermodynamics and standard holographic dark energy as a limiting case. We thus describe the dynamics of Tsallis holographic dark energy in a flat FLRW background. Hence, we investigate cosmological perturbations in the linear regim…
Barrow proposed that the area law of the entropy associated with a horizon might receive a "fractal correction" due to quantum gravitational effects -- in place of $S\propto A$, we have instead $S\propto A^{1+δ/2}$, where $0\leqslant δ\leqslant 1$ measures the deviation from the standard area law ($δ=0$). Based on black hole thermodynamics, we argue that the Barrow entropy should run (i.e., energy scale dependent), which is reasonable given that quantum gravitational corrections are expected to be important only in high energy regime. When applied to the Friedmann equation, we demonstrate the …
The accumulated energy density of the excited entropy modes in multiple field inflationary scenarios can play the role of dark matter. In the usual case of a flat field space without any turning trajectory, only light superhorizon entropy modes can be excited through the gravitational instability. In the case of a negatively curved field space, we show that subhorizon entropy modes can be excited as well through the tachyonic instability induced by the negative curvature of the field space. The latter allows for production of entropy modes with masses larger than or at the order of the Hubble …
The early universe could feature multiple reheating events, leading to jumps in the visible sector entropy density that dilute both particle asymmetries and the number density of frozen-out states. In fact, late time entropy jumps are usually required in models of Affleck-Dine baryogenesis, which typically produces an initial particle-antiparticle asymmetry that is much too large. An important consequence of late time dilution, is that a smaller dark matter annihilation cross section is needed to obtain the observed dark matter relic density. For cosmologies with high scale baryogenesis, follo…

We study general freeze-out scenarios where an arbitrary number of initial and final dark matter particles participate in the number-changing freeze-out interaction. We consider a simple sector with two particle species undergoing such a thermal freeze-out; one of the relics is stable and gives rise to the dark matter today, while the other one decays to the Standard Model, injecting significant entropy into the thermal bath that dilutes the dark matter abundance. We show that this setup can lead to a stable relic population that reproduces the observed dark matter abundance without requiring …
In this paper, we study the Power Law Entropy Corrected Holographic Dark Energy (PLECHDE) model in the framework of a non-flat Universe and of Hořava-Lifshitz cosmology with infrared cut-off given by recently proposed Granda-Oliveros cut-off, which contains one term proportional to the Hubble parameter squared $H^2$ and one term proportional to the first time derivative of the Hubble parameter $\dot{H}$. Moreover, this cut-off is characterized by two constant parameters, $α$ and $β$. For the two cases corresponding to non-interacting and interacting DE and Dark Matter (DM), we derive the evolu…
The halo-mediated inverse mass cascade is a key feature of the intermediate statistically steady state for self-gravitating collisionless dark matter flow (SG-CFD). A broad spectrum of halos and halo groups are necessary to form from inverse mass cascade for long-range interaction system to maximize its entropy. The limiting velocity ($\textbf X$), speed ($\textbf Z$), and energy ($\textbf E$) distributions of collisionless particles can be obtained analytically from a maximum entropy principle. Halo mass function, the distribution of total mass in halos, is a fundamental quantity for structur…
In this work, we have considered a non-canonical scalar field dark energy model in the framework of flat FRW background. It has also been assumed that the dark matter sector interacts with the non-canonical dark energy sector through some interaction term. Using the solutions for this interacting non-canonical scalar field dark energy model, we have investigated the validity of generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics in various scenarios using first law and area law of thermodynamics. For this purpose, we have assumed two types of horizons viz apparent horizon and event horizon for the …
We present modified cosmological scenarios that arise from the application of the "gravity-thermodynamics" conjecture, using the Barrow entropy instead of the usual Bekenstein-Hawking one. The former is a modification of the black hole entropy due to quantum-gravitational effects that deform the black-hole horizon by giving it an intricate, fractal structure. We extract modified cosmological equations which contain new extra terms that constitute an effective dark-energy sector, and which coincide with the usual Friedmann equations in the case where the new Barrow exponent acquires its Bekenst…
In the Part I of this work we show that Friedmann equations and the thermodynamical Gibbs-Duhem relation determine a general form of the Hubble function called Model E which predicts a dynamical Dark Energy and Dark Matter with equations of state w_0=-1 and w_M=0, respectively. We identify Dark Energy and Dark Matter with Space. General theory of relativity asserts that Space is gravitational fields. We propose the Space has a specific quantum structure: entangled Space quanta form Dark Energy, non-entangled ones form Dark Matter. We identify Dark Matter and Dark Energy as the gravitational fi…
In this work we explore the thermodynamic aspects of dark energy for late future time universe in two different scenarios: as a perfect fluid with constant and variable equation of state parameter; and as dissipative fluid described by a barotropic equation of state with bulk viscosity in the framework of the Eckart theory and the full Israel-Stewart theory. We explore cosmological solutions for a flat, homogeneous and isotropic universe; and we assume the late future time behavior when the dark energy dominates the cosmic evolution. When modeled as a perfect fluid with a dynamical equation of…

We apply the gravity-thermodynamics conjecture, namely the first law of thermodynamics on the Universe horizon, but using the generalized Kaniadakis entropy instead of the standard Bekenstein-Hawking one. The former is a one-parameter generalization of the classical Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon entropy, arising from a coherent and self-consistent relativistic statistical theory. We obtain new modified cosmological scenarios, namely modified Friedmann equations, which contain new extra terms that constitute an effective dark energy sector depending on the single model Kaniadakis parameter $K$. We in…
We formulate power-law holographic dark energy, which is a modified holographic dark energy model based on the extended entropy relation arising from the consideration of state mixing between the ground and the excited ones in the calculation of the entanglement entropy. We construct two cases of the scenario, imposing the usual future event horizon choice, as well as the Hubble one. Thus, the former model is a one-parameter extension of standard holographic dark energy, recovering it in the limit where power-law extended entropy recovers Bekenstein-Hawking one, while the latter belongs to the…
The Gross-Pitaevskii-Poisson equations that govern the evolution of self-gravitating Bose-Einstein condensates, possibly representing dark matter halos, experience a process of gravitational cooling and violent relaxation. We propose a heuristic parametrization of this complicated process in the spirit of Lynden-Bell's theory of violent relaxation for collisionless stellar systems. We derive a generalized wave equation (that was introduced phenomenologically in [P.H. Chavanis, Eur. Phys. J. Plus {\bf 132}, 248 (2017)]) involving a logarithmic nonlinearity associated with an effective temperatu…
