Motivated by the anomalies present in $b \to s\,l^+\,l^-$ neutral current decays, we study the corresponding $B_c \to (D_s,\,D^{\ast}_s)μ^+μ^-$ decays within the standard model and beyond. We use a model independent effective theory formalism in the presence of vector and axial vector new physics operators and study the implications of the latest global fit to the $b \to s\,l^+\,l^-$ data on various observables for the $B_c \to (D_s,\,D^{\ast}_s)μ^+μ^-$ decays. We give predictions on several observables such as the differential branching ratio, ratio of branching ratios, forward backward asymmetry, and the longitudinal polarization fraction of the $D^{\ast}_s$ meson within standard model and within various new physics scenarios. These results can be tested at the Large Hadron Collider and, in principle, can provide complimentary information regarding new physics in $b \to s\,l^+\,l^-$ neutral current decays.
We study $B_c \to (D,\,D^{\ast})\,l\,ν$ semileptonic decays mediated via $b \to u\,l\,ν$ charged current interactions using the $B_c \to (D,\,D^{\ast})$ transition form factors obtained in the covariant light front quark model. We give predictions on the branching ratios, ratio of branching ratios, and various asymmetries pertaining to these decay modes within the standard model. These results can be tested in the ongoing or in the future experiments and can provide complimentary information regarding the observed anomalies in $B \to (D,\,D^{\ast})τν$ and $B_c \to J/Ψτν$ decays.
The rare decay $B^0 \to K^{\ast 0}\ell^+\ell^-$ is a flavour changing neutral current decay with a high sensitivity to physics beyond the Standard Model. Nearly all theoretical predictions and all experimental measurements so far have assumed a $K^{\ast 0}$ P-wave that decays into the $K^+π^-$ final state. In this paper the addition of an S-wave within the $K^+π^-$ system of $B^0 \to K^{\ast 0}\ell^+\ell^-$ and the subsequent impact of this on the angular distribution of the final state particles is explored. The inclusion of the S-wave causes a distinction between the values of the angular ob…
We study all possible observables in $B\to D^{(\ast)}τν_τ$ with new physics (NP), including new vector, scalar and tensor interactions, and investigate the prospects of extracting NP Wilson coefficients with optimal observables. Analysis of the full $q^2$ integrated branching fractions of $B\to D^{(\ast)}τν_τ$ show that the overall sensitivity of the observables of $B\to D τν_τ$ is more towards the scalar current, whereas the bin-by-bin analysis of $q^2$ distribution of the differential branching fraction points to regions of $q^2$ sensitive to tensor interactions. Interestingly, the observabl…
We discuss the possibility of using the observables deduced from the angular distribution of the $B\to D^{(\ast)} \ell\barν$ decays to test the effects of lepton flavor universality violation (LFUV). We show that the measurement of even a subset of these observables could be very helpful in distinguishing the Lorentz structure of the New Physics contributions to these decays. To do so we use the low energy effective theory in which besides the Standard Model contribution we add all possible Lorentz structures with the couplings (Wilson coefficients) that are determined by matching theory with …
Exclusive semileptonic decays based on $b\to s$ transitions have been attracting a lot of attention as some angular observables deviate significantly from the Standard Model (SM) predictions in specific $q^2$ bins. B meson decays induced by other Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC), $b\to d$, can also offer a probe to new physics with an additional sensitivity to the weak phase in Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Masakawa (CKM) matrix. We provide predictions for angular observables for $b\to d$ semileptonic transitions, namely $\bar{B}_s\to K^{\ast}\ell^+\ell^-$, $\bar{B}^0\toρ^0 \ell^+\ell^-$, and their …

We study the non-leptonic puzzle of $B_{d(s)} \rightarrow K^{(\ast)}\bar{K}^{(\ast)}$ decay in the $R$-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (RPV-MSSM) extended with the inverse seesaw mechanism. In this model, the chiral flip of sneutrinos can contribute to the observables $L_{K\bar{K}}$ and $L_{K^{\ast}\bar{K}^{\ast}}$, that is benefit for explaining the relevant puzzle. We also find that this unique effect can engage in the $B_s$-$\bar{B}_s$ mixing. We utilize the scenario of complex $λ^\prime$ couplings to fulfill the recent stringent constraint of $B_s$-$\bar{B}_s$ mixing…

The Standard Model of particle physics has been strengthened by the recent discovery of the long-awaited Higgs boson. The standard cosmological model has met the challenge of the high precision observations in cosmology and astroparticle physics. However these two standard models face both several theoretical issues, such as the naturalness problem in the Higgs sector of the Standard Model, as well as observational issues, in particular the fact that an unknown kind of matter called Dark Matter accounts for the majority of the matter content in our Universe. Attempts to solve such problems hav…
Latest measurement of the ratio of branching ratios $R_D = \mathcal B(B \to D\,τ\,ν)/\mathcal B(B \to D\,l\,ν)$ and $R_{D^{\ast}} = \mathcal B(B \to D^{\ast}\,τ\,ν)/\mathcal B(B \to D^{\ast}\,l\,ν)$, where $l$ is either an electron or muon, differs from the standard model expectation by $1.9σ$ and $3.3σ$, respectively. Similar tension has been observed in purely leptonic $B \to τν$ decays as well. In this context, we consider the most general effective Lagrangian in the presence of new physics and perform a model independent analysis to explore various new physics couplings. Motivated by the r…
Recent implications of results from quantum information theory applied to black holes has led to the confusing conclusions that requires either abandoning the equivalence principle (e.g. the firewall picture), or the no-hair theorem (e.g. the fuzzball picture), or even more unpalatable options. The recent discovery of a pulsar orbiting a black hole opens up new possibilities for tests of theories of gravity. We examine possible observational effects of semiclassical quantum gravity in the vicinity of black holes, as probed by pulsars and event horizon telescope imaging of flares. Pulsar radiat…
Decays of the kind $B_s\to D_s^{\pm}K^\mp, D_s^{\ast\pm}K^\mp, ...$ and $B_d\to D^{\pm}π^\mp, D^{\ast\pm}π^\mp, ...$ allow us to probe $ϕ_s+γ$ and $ϕ_d+γ$, respectively, involving the angle $γ$ of the unitarity triangle and the $B^0_q$--$\bar B^0_q$ mixing phases $ϕ_q$ ($q\in\{d,s\}$). Analysing these modes in a phase-convention-independent way, we find that their mixing-induced observables are affected by a subtle $(-1)^L$ factor, where $L$ denotes the angular momentum of the $B_q$ decay products, and derive bounds on $ϕ_q+γ$. Moreover, we emphasize that ``untagged'' rates are an important in…
In this talk, I review the status and prospects of several low energy flavor observables that are highly sensitive to New Physics effects. In particular I discuss the implications for possible New Physics in b --> s transitions coming from the recent experimental results on the B_s mixing phase, the branching ratio of the rare decay B_s --> mu+mu-, and angular observables in the B --> K* mu+mu- decay. Also the recent evidence for direct CP violation in singly Cabibbo suppressed charm decays and its interpretation in the context of New Physics models is briefly discussed.
We discuss theoretical and experimental preparations for an indirect new physics search using the rare decay B to K*0 (to K pi) l+ l- focusing on CP violating observables. The separation of new physics effects and hadronic uncertainties is the key issue when using flavour observables in a new-physics search. Our analysis is based on QCD factorization and soft-collinear effective theory and critically examines the new physics reach of those observables via a detailed error analysis due to scale dependences, form factors, and other input parameters; we also explore the experimental sensitivities…
I review the new physics sensitivity of low-energy parity-violating (PV) observables. I concentrate on signatures of new tree-level physics in atomic PV with a single isotope, ratios of atomic PV observables, and PV electron scattering. In addition to comparing the new physics sensitivities of these observables with those of high-energy colliders, I also discuss the theoretical issues involved in the extraction of new physics limits from low-energy PV observables.
Top quarks may be produced in large numbers in association with new physics at the LHC. The polarization of these top quarks probes the chiral structure of the new physics. We discuss several kinematic distributions which are sensitive to the polarization of single top quarks and can be used without full event reconstruction. For collimated tops we construct polarization-sensitive observables for both hadronic and leptonic decay modes and plot their distributions. We compute the observable polarization signals from top quarks produced in the on-shell cascade decay of a stop squark into a top q…
We explore extensions of the MSSM in which TeV scale vector-like multiplets can mediate observable n-anti-n oscillations, without causing conflict with the proton decay experiments, with a U(1) symmetry playing an important role. The colored vector-like particles, in particular, may be found at the LHC through some decay modes arising from their direct couplings to quarks.
Via the Initial Single Pion Emission (ISPE) mechanism, we study the $ϕ(1020)π^{+}$ invariant mass spectrum distribution of $Y(2175) \to ϕ(1020)π^{+} π^{-}$. Our calculation indicates there exist a sharp peak structure ($Z_{s1}^+$) close to the $K\bar{K}^\ast$ threshold and a broad structure ($Z_{s2}^+$) near the $K^\ast\bar{K}^\ast$ threshold. In addition, we also investigate the $ϕ(1680) \to ϕ(1020)π^{+} π^{-}$ process due to the ISPE mechanism, where a sharp peak around the $K\bar{K}^\ast$ threshold appears in the $ϕ(1020)π^{+}$ invariant mass spectrum distribution. We suggest to carry out t…
Indirect information about the possible scale of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking is provided by B physics observables (BPO) as well as electroweak precision observables (EWPO). We review the combination of the constraints imposed by recent measurements of the BPO BR(b -> s gamma), BR(B_s -> mu+ mu-), BR(B_u -> tau nu_tau) and Delta M_{B_s} with those obtained from the experimental measurements of the EWPO M_W, sin^2 theta_eff, Gamma_Z, (g-2)_mu and M_h. We perform a chi^2 fit to the parameters of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (CMSSM), in which the SUSY-br…
Until now the focus within the direct search for supersymmetry has mainly been on flavour diagonal observables. Recently lepton flavour violating signals at future electron positron colliders have been studied. There is now an opportunity to analyse the relations between collider observables and low-energy observables in the hadronic sector. In a first work in this direction, we study flavour violation in the squark decays of the second and third generations taking into account results from B physics, in particular from the rare decay b ->s gamma. Correlations between various squark decay mode…
We study the rare decay $B\to K_2^\ast(1430)(\to Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$ in the Standard Model and beyond. Working in the transversity basis, we exploit the relations between the heavy-to-light form factors in the limit of heavy quark ($m_b\to \infty$) and large energy ($E_{K_2^\ast}\to \infty$) of the $K^\ast_2$ meson. This allows us to construct observables where at leading order in $Λ_{\rm QCD}/m_b$ and $α_s$ the form factor dependence involving the $B\to K^\ast_2$ transitions cancels. Higher order corrections are systematically incorporated in the numerical analysis. In the Standard Model the dec…
Observation of ultra-high energy astrophysical neutrinos and identification of their flavors have been proposed for future neutrino telescopes. The flavor ratio of astrophysical neutrinos observed on the Earth depends on both the initial flavor ratio at the source and flavor transitions taking place during propagations of these neutrinos. The flavor transition mechanisms are well-classified with our model-independent parametrization. We find a new parameter R=ϕ_e/(ϕ_μ + ϕ_τ) can probe directly the flavor transition in the framework of our model-independent parametrization, without the assumpti…
Polarization measurements in $\bar{B} \to D^{(\ast)} τ\overlineν$ are useful to check consistency in new physics explanations for the $R_{D}$ and $R_{D^{\ast}}$ anomalies. In this paper, we investigate the $D^{\ast}$ and $τ$ polarizations and focus on the new physics contributions to the fraction of a longitudinal $D^{\ast}$ polarization ($F_{L}^{D^{\ast}}$), which is recently measured by the Belle collaboration $F_{L}^{D^{\ast}} = 0.60 \pm 0.09$, in model-independent manner and in each single leptoquark model (${\rm R}_2$, ${\rm S}_1$ and ${\rm U}_1$) that can naturally explain the $R_{D^{(\a…
B -> K*ll angular observables have become a key ingredient in global model-independent analyses of b->s transitions. However, as experimental precision improves, the use of theoretically clean quantities becomes a crucial issue. Global analyses that use clean observables integrated in small bins are already a reality, opening up a new chapter in our quest for New Physics.
We derive the expressions for the full angular distributions of $\bar B\to D\ell\bar ν_\ell$ and $\bar B\to D^{\ast }\ell\bar ν_\ell$ decays and discuss the spectra on each angle separately. The coefficient functions, depending on helicity amplitudes, can then be combined in an ensemble of observables which can then be used to check for the presence of New Physics. We examine the sensitivity of each of these observables on the presence of non-Standard Model interaction terms at low energies. The expressions presented here are general and can be used for studying any other semileptonic pseudosc…
There has been significant recent progress in observational cosmology. This, in turn, has provided an unprecedented picture of the early universe and its evolution. In this review I will present a (biased) view of how one can use these observational results to constraint fundamental physics and in particular physics beyond the standard model.
I provide an overview of the connections between flavor violating observables in the K and B meson systems beyond the Standard Model (BSM). Model independent correlations, both in and beyond the MFV framework, as well as results obtained in specific models are discussed.
This working group focused mainly on the complementarity among particle physics and astrophysics. The analysis of data from both fields will better constrain theoretical models. Much of the discussion focused on detecting dark matter and susy particles, and on the potential of neutrino and gamma-ray astrophysics for seeking or constraining new physics.
