The explicit exact analytical expressions for the lowest-order radiative corrections to the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of the polarized particles are obtained in the most compact, covariant form convenient for the numerical analysis. The infrared divergence from the real photon emission is extracted and cancelled using the Bardin-Shumeiko approach. The contribution of the exclusive radiative tail is presented. The analytic results obtained within the ultrarelativistic approximation are also show.
SIDIS-RC EvGen is a C++ standalone Monte-Carlo event generator for studies of semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) processes at medium to high lepton beam energies. In particular, the generator contains binary and library components for generating SIDS events and calculating cross sections for unpolarized or longitudinally polarized beam and unpolarized, longitudinally or transversely polarized target. The structure of the generator incorporates transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions, whereby we obtain multi-dimensional binned simulation resul…

The explicit exact expressions of QED lowest-order radiative corrections to the two polarized identical fermion scattering are presented in covariant form. Polarization effects are treated in detail. The infrared divergence from the real photon emission is extracted by covariant approach. Some numerical results for Møller scattering are given.
The compact expressions for cross sections of photoproduction of a pair of charged particles $\mathrm{e}^+,\mathrm{e}^-$; $μ^+,μ^-$; $π^+,π^-$ as well as the double Compton scattering process are given. The explicit analytic expressions for the case of polarized photon and the initial electron in the kinematics when all the particles can be considered as a massless ones are presented. The photon polarization is described in the terms of Stokes parameters.
The contribution of exclusive radiative tail to the cross section of semi-inclusive hadron leptoproduction has been calculated exactly for the first time. Although the experience of inclusive data analyses suggests us that the contribution of radiative tail from the elastic peak is of particular importance, similar effects in the semi-inclusive process were only recently estimated in the peaking approximation. The explicit expressions for the lepton part of the lowest order QED contribution of exclusive radiative tail to the five-fold differential cross section are obtained and discussed. Nume…
The total lowest-order electromagnetic radiative corrections to the observables in Moller scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons have been calculated. The final expressions obtained by the covariant method for the infrared divergency cancellation are free from any unphysical cut-off parameters. Since the calculation is carried out within the ultrarelativistic approximation our result has a compact form that is convenient for computing. Basing on these expressions the FORTRAN code MERA has been developed. Using this code the detailed numerical analysis performed under SLAC (E-158) and…
The transverse part of the three-point Green function of massless QED is determined to the lowest order in position space. Taken together with the evaluation of the longitudinal part in arXiv:0803.2630, this gives a relation for QED which is analogous to the star-triangle relation. We relate our result to conformal-invariant three-point functions.
Properties and different representations of the Uehling potential are investigated. Based on these properties and by using our formulas for the Fourier transform of the Uehling potential we have developed the new analytical, logically closed and physically transparent procedure which can be used to evaluate the lowest-order vacuum polarization correction to the cross sections of a number of QED processes, including the Mott electron scattering, bremsstrahlung, creation and/or annihilation of the $(e^{-}, e^{+})-$pair in the field of a heavy Coulomb center, e.g., atomic nucleus.
The dynamics of quarks and gauge fields in the lowest energy states in QCD and QED interactions is studied by compactifying the (3+1)D space-time to the (1+1)D space-time with cylindrical symmetry and by combining Schwinger's longitudinal confinement in (1+1)D with Polyakov's transverse confinement in (2+1)D. Using the action integral, we separate out the transverse and longitudinal degrees of freedom. By solving the derived transverse and longitudinal equations, we study the QCD and QED collective excitations. In addition to the well known QCD low-energy states, we find stable collective QED …
The higher order quantum electrodynamics (QED) effect for vacuum pair production has been searched without success since 1954. In this paper, we show that the lowest order QED calculations for lepton pair vacuum production in heavy-ion collisions are about 20$\%$ higher than the combined world-wide data with a seven sigma-level of significance and the corresponding higher order QED results are consistent with data. We claim the discovery of higher order effect for the QED pair production, which settles the dust of previous debates for several decades. The verification of higher order QED effec…
The lowest order QED radiative corrections to the cross-section of the recharged process of transition of two charged pions to two neutral ones and to the pionium life time are calculated in frames of scalar QED. It is argued that the ultraviolet cut--off of the loop momentum is to be chosen of order of $ρ$ meson mass. This fact permits to perform the calculation in frames of Effective Chiral Lagrangian theory with vector-meson dominance. The Coulomb factor corresponding to interaction in the initial state, shown, is to be removed to avoid the double counting. Resulting value of the radiative …
We calculate DIS cross section under kinematical requirements when a final hadron state is a single proton. The process in the lowest order is known as radiative tail from elastic peak. We take into account correction, coming from emission of virtual and soft real photons, to the amplitude of this process as well as the one, induced by emission of additional hard photon and a hard pair. Resulting contributions of these channels are presented in the leading and, partly, next-to-leading logarithmic approximations. Some general expressions for the photon contributions are given. Numerical results…
We consider the Lorentz invariant non-commutative QED and complete the Feynman rules for the theory up to the order $θ^2$. In the Lorentz invariant version of the non-commutative QED the particles with fractional charges can be also considered. We show that in the parton model, even at the lowest order, the Bjorken scaling violates as $\simθ^2Q^4$.
In strong uniform magnetic field, the vacuum Non-Commutative Plane (NCP) caused by the lowest Landau level(LLL) effect and the QED with NCP (QED-NCP) are studied. Being similar to the theory of Quantum Hall effect, an effective filling factor $f(B)$ is introduced to character the possibility that the electrons stays on LLL. The backward Compton scattering amplitudes of QED-NCP are derived, and the differential cross sections for the process with polarized initial electrons and photons are calculated. The existing Spring-8's data has been analyzed primitively and some hints for QED-NCP effects …
An approach to calculate radiative corrections to unpolarized cross section of semi-inclusive electroproduction is developed. An explicit formulae for the lowest order QED radiative correction are presented. Detailed numerical analysis is performed for the kinematics of experiments at the fixed targets.
I present a preliminary calculation of the hadronic vacuum polarization for 2+1 flavors of improved Kogut-Susskind quarks by utilizing a set of gauge configurations recently generated by the MILC collaboration. The polarization function $Π(q^2)$ is then used to calculate the lowest order (in $α_{QED}$) hadronic contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment.
This paper investigates the transverse momentum broadening effect for electromagnetic production of dileptons in ultra-peripheral heavy ion collisions accompanied by nuclear dissociation. The electromagnetic dissociation probability of nuclei for different neutron multiplicities is estimated, which could serve as a centrality definition (i.e. impact parameter estimate) in ultra-peripheral collisions. In the framework of lowest-order QED, the acoplanarity of dilepton pairs is calculated for different neutron emission scenarios in ultra-peripheral collisions, indicating significant impact-parame…
In order to treat loops in the Lorentz-violating QED model, we present a derivation of the QED axial anomaly that specifically highlights the infrared origin of the effect. This is done using dimensional regularization while treating $γ_5$ as a spectator. This enables us to revisit aspects in the fermionic sector of Lorentz-violating QED which have analogous structure to the axial anomaly. In particular, it is shown that both the Chern-Simons and photon mass operators are not induced in the one loop effective action. At lowest order in the Lorentz-violating parameter, we can define a non-relat…
In the strong uniform magnetic field, the noncommutative plane (NCP) caused by the lowest Landau level (LLL) effect, and QED with NCP (QED-NCP) are studied. Being similar to the condensed matter theory of quantum Hall effect, an effective filling factor $f(B)$ is introduced to character the possibility that the electrons stay on the LLL. The analytic and numerical results of the differential cross section for the process of backward Compton scattering in the accelerator with unpolarized or polarized initial photons are calculated. The existing data of BL38B2 in Spring-8 have been analyzed roug…
Bound states poles in scattering amplitudes are generated by the divergence of the perturbative series due to enhanced Coulomb scattering near thresholds. This suggests to organize bound state calculations according to an expansion in hbar, i.e., in the number of loops. I study QED and QCD bound states at lowest order in hbar, which are analogous to Born amplitudes. The absence of loops allows the use of retarded boundary conditions where particles only propagate forward in time, making a hamiltonian approach feasible. The instantaneous A^0 field is determined by the equations of motion separa…
The properties of the QED-vacuum energy $\hbox{$\cal E $}_{VP}$ under Coulomb super-criticality condition $Z>Z_{cr,1}$ are explored in essentially non-perturbative approach. It is shown that in the supercritical region $\hbox{$\cal E $}_{VP}$ is the decreasing function of the Coulomb source parameters, resulting in decay into the negative range as $\sim - Z^4/R$. The conditions, under which the emission of vacuum positrons can be unambiguously detected on the nuclear conversion pairs background, are also discussed. In particular, for a super-critical dummy nucleus with charge $Z$ and $R(Z) \si…
We calculate the lowest order quantum gravity contributions to QED beta function in an effective field theory picture with a momentum cutoff. We use a recently proposed 4 dimensional improved momentum cutoff that preserves gauge and Lorentz symmetries. We find that there is non-vanishing quadratic contribution to the photon 2-point function but that does not lead to the running of the original coupling after renormalization. We argue that gravity cannot turn gauge theories asymptotically free.
Born cross section and the radiative corrections to its lowest order are considered in the frame work of QED with structureless nucleons including the emission of virtual and real photons. Result is generalized to take into account radiative corrections in higher orders of perturbation theory in the leading and next-to leading logarithmic approximation. Crossing processes are considered in the leading approximation.
The effect of non-commutativity on electromagnetic waves violates Lorentz invariance: in the presence of a background magnetic induction field b, the velocity for propagation transverse to b differs from c, while propagation along b is unchanged. In principle, this allows a test by the Michelson-Morley interference method. We also study non-commutativity in another context, by constructing the theory describing a charged fluid in a strong magnetic field, which forces the fluid particles into their lowest Landau level and renders the fluid dynamics non-commutative, with a Moyal product determin…
We evaluate the leading-order QED radiative corrections to the timelike Compton scattering (TCS) process $γp \to l^- l^+ p$. We study these corrections in two energy regimes using different models for the TCS amplitude. In the low-energy regime we calculate the contribution due to the proton and its lowest-energy excitation, the $Δ(1232)$ resonance. In the high-energy near-forward kinematical regime we calculate the TCS amplitude in a handbag approach in terms of Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs). On the level of cross sections we find the QED radiative corrections to be in the $5 -10\%$…
Recently, the Budapest-Marseille-Wuppertal collaboration achieved sub-percent precision in the evaluation of the lowest-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon $g_μ-2$ (arXiv:hep-lat/2002.12347v3). At this level of precision, isospin-symmetric QCD is not sufficient. In this contribution we review how QED and strong-isospin-breaking effects have been included in our work. Isospin breaking is implemented by expanding the relevant correlation functions to second order in the electric charge $e$ and to first order in $m_u-m_d$. The correction terms are then computed using isosp…
The effective Lagrangian and mass operator are calculated for planar charged massive and massless fermions in a constant external homogeneous magnetic field in the one-loop approximation of the 2+1 dimensional quantum electrodynamics (QED$_{2+1}$). We obtain the renormalizable effective Lagrangian and the fermion mass operator for a charged fermion of mass $m$ and then calculate these quantities for the massless case. The radiative corrections to the mass of charged massless fermion when it occupies the lowest Landau level are found for the cases of the pure QED$_{2+1}$ as well as the so-calle…
We calculate the leading radiative corrections to the axial current in the chiral separation effect in dense QED in a magnetic field. Contrary to the conventional wisdom suggesting that the axial current should be exactly fixed by the chiral anomaly relation and is described by the topological contribution on the lowest Landau level in the free theory, we find in fact that the axial current receives nontrivial radiative corrections. The direct calculations performed to the linear order in the external magnetic field show that the nontrivial radiative corrections to the axial current are provid…
We review the theory of meson decays to two lepton pairs, including the cases of identical as well as non-identical leptons, as well as CP-conserving and CP-violating couplings. A complete lowest-order calculation of QED radiative corrections to these decays is discussed, and comparisons of predicted rates and kinematic distributions between tree-level and one-loop-corrected calculations are presented for both pi-zero and K-zero decays.
The matrix element of a bound electron interacting with the nucleus through exchange of a Z boson is studied for the gauge invariant case of $2s_{1/2}-2p_{1/2}$ transitions in hydrogenic ions. The QED radiative correction to the matrix element, which is $-α/2π$ in lowest order, is calculated to all orders in $Zα$ using exact propagators. Previous calculation of the first-order binding correction are confirmed both analytically and by fitting the exact function at low $Z$. Consequences for the interpretation of parity nonconservation in cesium are discussed.
Order $α^2$ corrections to the decay rate of parapositronium are calculated. A QED scattering calculation of the amplitude for electron-positron annihilation into two photons at threshold is combined with the technique of effective field theory to determine an NRQED Hamiltonian, which is then used in a bound state calculation to determine the decay rate. Our result for the two-loop correction is $5.1243(33)$ in units of $(α/π)^2$ times the lowest order rate. This is consistent with but more precise than the result $5.1(3)$ of a previous calculation.
We study the vacuum polarization tensor of QED (quantum electrodynamics) at high temperatures up to the two loop levels and its effect on the electromagnetic properties of a medium. One loop corrections to QED coupling vanish at low temperatures (T$\leq 10^{10}K$), but they play an important role at high temperature ( T$\geq 10^{10}$ K) to study the behavior of QED medium at these temperatures. At low temperatures ( $T \leq m_e$)higher order loops give a tiny correction due to the coupling of radiation with matter and an overlap of hot photon loop with cold fermion loop contributes to this eff…
The lowest order QED radiative corrections to the radiative large angle Bhabha scattering process in the region where all kinematic invariants are large compared to the electron mass are considered. We show that the leading logarithmic corrections do not factorize before the Born cross section, contrary to the picture assumed in the renormalization group approach. The leading and non leading contributions for typical kinematics of the hard process at the energy of the $Φ$ factory are estimated.
Bound state poles in the $S$-matrix of perturbative QED are generated by the {\em divergence} of the expansion in $α$. The perturbative corrections are necessarily singular when expanding around free, \order{α^0} $in$ and $out$ states that have no overlap with finite-sized atomic wave functions. Nevertheless, measurables such as binding energies do have well-behaved expansions in powers of $α$ (and $\logα$). It is desirable to formulate the concept of "lowest order" for gauge theory bound states such that higher order corrections vanish in the $α\to 0$ limit. This may allow to determine a lowe…
We compute the contribution of order $α_S^2α^2$ to the cross section of a top-antitop pair in association with at least one heavy Standard Model boson -- $Z$, $W^\pm$, and Higgs -- by including all effects of QCD, QED, and weak origin and by working in the automated MadGraph5_aMC@NLO framework. This next-to-leading order contribution is then combined with that of order $α_S^3α$, and with the two dominant lowest-order ones, $α_S^2α$ and $α_Sα^2$, to obtain phenomenological results relevant to a 8, 13, and 100~TeV $pp$ collider.
I summarize our self-contained determinations of the lowest order hadronic contributions to the anomalous magnetic moments a_{μ,τ} of the muon and tau leptons, the running QED coupling α(M_Z) and the muonium hyperfine splitting ν. Using as a revised estimate of the light-by light scattering: a_μ(LL)=85(18) 10^{-11}, we deduce: a_μ^{SM} = 116 591 861(78) 10^{-11}, a_τ^{SM} = 117 759(7) 10^{-8}, giving: a_μ^{SM}-a_μ^{exp}=162(170) 10^{-11}. We also obtain: α^{-1}(M_Z)=128.926(25) and the Fermi energy splitting: ν_F^{SM}=4 459 031 783(229) {Hz}. Lower bounds on some eventual new physics are given…
Results are presented for the electromagnetic mass splittings of the low lying hadrons. These are used to determine the non-degenerate light quark masses. It is found that m_u=2.24(10)(34), m_d=4.65(15)(32), and $m_s=97.6(2.9)(5.5)$ MeV (MSbar scheme, 2 GeV scale). The first error is statistical and the second systematic. We find the lowest order electromagnetic splitting (m_pi+-m_pi0)_QED=3.38(23) MeV, the splittings including next-to-leading order, (m_pi+-m_pi0)_QED=4.50(23) MeV, (m_K+-m_K0)_QED=1.87(10) MeV, and the m_u != m_d contribution to the kaon mass difference, (m_K+-m_K0)_(m_u-m_d)=…
We study the generation of a non-equilibrium plasma in scalar QED with N charged scalar fields through spinodal instabilities in the case of a super cooled second order phase transition and parametric amplification when the order parameter oscillates with large amplitude around the minimum of the potential. The focus is to study the non-equilibrium electromagnetic properties of the plasma, such as photon production, electric and magnetic screening and conductivity. A novel kinetic equation is introduced to compute photon production far away from equilibrium in the large N limit and lowest order…
