There is an apparent discrepancy between the results of the charged kaon multiplicities off the deuteron target from HERMES and COMPASS experiments. In this article we point out that this discrepancy cannot be explained by different $Q^2$ values. Furthermore we examine the empirical parametrization of the fragmentation functions, DSS2017 carefully and find that the agreement between the theoretical estimate and the HERMES data is less satisfactory as claimed.

In high energy Heavy Ion Collisions, the onset of the quark-gluon plasma is the colour glass condensate, dominated by gluons. The final state is hadronic, and dominated by pions and kaons. Here we investigate an effective approach of QCD with these bosonic fields and which can help to describe the transition of gluons into light mesons. Formally, our approach consists in integrating out the quark fields from the QCD path integral, utilizing auxiliary fields. In this way the fermionic fields are replaced by light mesons, such as the pions and sigma field. We apply our effective action to comput…

This paper focuses on hadron mass effects in calculations of semi-inclusive kaon production in lepton-Deuteron deeply inelastic scattering at HERMES and COMPASS kinematics. In the collinear factorization framework, the corresponding cross section is shown to factorize, at leading order and leading twist, into products of parton distributions and fragmentation functions evaluated in terms of kaon- and nucleon-mass-dependent scaling variables, and to respect gauge invariance. It is found that hadron mass corrections for integrated kaon multiplicities sizeably reduce the apparent large discrepanc…
We derived the conditions on certain combinations of integrals of the fragmentation functions of pion using HERMES data of the sum for the charged pion multiplicities from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) off the deuteron target. In our derivation the nucleon parton distribution functions (PDFs) are assumed to be isospin SU(2) symmetric. Similar conditions have also been obtained for the fragmentation functions (FFs) of kaon by the sum of charged kaon multiplicities as well. We have chosen several FFs to study the impact of those conditions we have derived. Among those FFs, onl…
Experimental data for integrated kaon multiplicities taken at HERMES and COMPASS measurements look incompatible with each other. In this talk, we investigate the effects of hadron masses calculated at leading-order and leading twist at the kinematics of these two experiments. We present evidence that Hadron Mass Corrections can fully reconcile the data for the $K^+/K^-$ multiplicity ratio, and can also sizeably reduce the apparent large discrepancy in the case of $K^+ + K^-$ data. Residual differences in the shape of the latter one remains to be understood.
A Comment on the recently published reevaluation of the polarization-averaged parton distribution of strange quarks in the nucleon using final data on the multiplicities of charged kaons in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering is reviewed. Important features of the comparison of one-dimensional projections of the multidimensional HERMES data are pointed out. A test of the leading-order extraction of xS(x) using the difference between charged-kaon multiplicities is repeated. The results are consistent with leading-order predictions within the uncertainties in the input data, and do not inva…
COMPASS final results on multiplicities of charged hadrons and of identified pions and kaons produced in the deep inelastic muon scattering off an isoscalar target are presented and compared to HERMES results. Measurements are done in bins of x, y and z in a wide kinematic range. The hadron and pion data show a good agreement with (N)LO QCD expectations. The kaon data are long awaited for since they are needed to extract kaon fragmentation functions, a crucial ingredient in solving the strange quark polarisation puzzle. COMPASS results for kaons differ from the expectations of the old NLO DSS …
Fragmentation functions represent a key ingredient to address the proton spin structure in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and proton-proton collisions. They can not be determined from perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics and have to be extracted from experimental data in different processes. The COMPASS experiment at CERN provides a large data sample and covers a wide kinematic range for precise measurement of hadron multiplicities, directly connected to fragmentation functions. Recent, full-differential results on pion and kaon multiplicities are presented and discussed
New fragmentation functions (FFs) are extracted from a NLO QCD fit to the preliminary COMPASS data on pion and kaon multiplicities. It is shown that the new kaon FFs are very different from those of De Florian at al. (DSS) and Hirai et al. (HKNS). The sensitivity of the extracted polarized PDFs to the new FFs is discussed.
In the past the analyses of inelastic p+p collision for example in terms of the hadron gas model have assumed that always both protons participate in the interaction. In this article we show that (at sqrt(s) = 17.3 GeV ) on average only 1,89 protons are interacting. Measurements of the mean multiplicities of protons, neutrons, charged pions, charged kaons and Λ hyperons allow to compute the number of initial state nucleons using conservation of baryon number, strangeness, and isospin. We further argue that once the number of initial state nucleons is given and the mean multiplicities of proton…
This study is part of a project to investigate the transverse momentum dependence in parton distribution and fragmentation functions, analyzing (semi-)inclusive high-energy processes within a proper QCD framework. We calculate the transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) multiplicities for $e^+e^-$ annihilation into two hadrons (considering different combinations of pions and kaons) aiming to investigate the impact of intrinsic and radiative partonic transverse momentum and their mixing with flavor. Different descriptions of the non-perturbative evolution kernel are available on the market and ther…

The results on the main bulk observables obtained in the simulations within the integrated hydrokinetic model (iHKM) of Au+Au collisions at the RHIC energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV are presented along with the corresponding experimental data from the STAR and the PHENIX collaborations. The simulations include all the stages of the collision process: formation of the initial state, its gradual thermalization and hydrodynamization, viscous relativistic hydro-evolution, system's hadronization and particlization, and, finally, an expansion of the interacting hadron-resonance gas. The model gives a …
Miraculously, target mass corrections for inclusive deep inelastic scattering can be calculated exactly. On the contrary, there does not exist a consistent derivation of kinematic hadron mass corrections for semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS). Recently this has become of topical interest, since there is a significant difference between the measured HERMES and COMPASS pion and kaon multiplicities, which cannot be explained as a consequence of evolution in $Q^2$, and it has been suggested that the difference can be understood if kinematic hadron mass corrections are taken into acco…
Hadron production in hard scattering reactions is described by the hadronization mechanism which combines quarks into final-state hadrons. Within the theoretical framework of leading-twist collinear QCD, the cross section for hadron production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering can be factorized into a hard scattering cross section describing the hard interaction at the quark level calculable in perturbative QED, and non-perturbative universal functions: parton distribution functions which reflect the quark structure of initial-state hadrons and collinear fragmentation functions which…
The pseudorapidity density of charged particles produced at LHC collisions are predicted by using two complementary production mechanisms with a set of consistent integrated and unintegrated parton distributions. We discuss the limiting fragmentation hypothesis and its possible violation, and we compare our model with other partonic models.
The COMPASS Collaboration measured the transverse momentum dependent multiplicities of charged hadrons produced in Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) off unpolarized protons. Complementing previous COMPASS measurements obtained with an isoscalar target, the data have been collected in 2016 and 2017 with 160 GeV/$c$ muon beams and a liquid hydrogen target. The multiplicities are studied as a function of the square of the hadron transverse momentum with respect to the virtual photon direction $P_{hT}^2$ in bins of the Bjorken variable $x$, of the photon virtuality $Q^2$ and of the fraction $z$ of t…
Likelihood ratio tests are performed for the hypothesis that charged-particle multiplicities measured in proton-(anti)proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 and 2.36 TeV are distributed according to the negative binomial form. Results indicate that the hypothesis should be rejected in the all cases of ALICE-LHC measurements in the limited pseudo-rapidity windows, whereas should be accepted in the corresponding cases of UA5 data. Possible explanations of that and of the disagreement with the least-squares fitting method are given.
We investigate the information which could be obtained from Drell-Yan processes with sufficiently intense beams of charged kaons on isoscalar targets. It is found that combinations of $K^+$ and $K^-$ Drell-Yan measurements on isoscalar nuclear targets would allow one to extract the kaon sea quark distributions. These cross sections are also sensitive to the strange valence quark distribution in the kaon, although one would need a significant increase over the presently available kaon fluxes in order to extract this quantity with sufficient accuracy.
We review results on hadron multiplicities in high energy particle collisions. Both theory and experiment are discussed. The general procedures used to describe particle multiplicity in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) are summarized. The QCD equations for the generating functions of the multiplicity distributions are presented both for fixed and running coupling strengths. The mean multiplicities of gluon and quark jets, their ratio, higher moments, and the slopes of multiplicities as a function of energy scale, are among the main global features of multiplicity for which QCD results exist. Recen…
We study the low $Q^2$ wave-functions of pions and kaons as an expansion in terms of hadron-like Fock state fluctuations. In this formalism, pion and kaon wave-functions are related one another. Consequently, the knowledge of the pion structure allows the determination of parton distributions in kaons. In addition, we show that the intrinsic (low $Q^2$) sea of pions and kaons are different due to their different valence quark structure. Finally, we analize the feasibility of a method to extract kaon's parton distribution functions within this approach and compare with available experimental da…
The multiplicity distribution and the two-particle Bose-Einstein correlations at fixed multiplicities observed in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV by the ALICE Collaboration are analyzed by the formulae obtained in the quantum optical approach. The chaoticity parameters in the inclusive and semi-inclusive events are estimated from the analysis. Multiplicity or $k_T$ dependence of longitudinal and transverse source radii are also estimated.
Atomic number ($A$) and energy ($\roots$) scaling exponents of multiplicity and transverse energy in heavy ion collisions are analytically derived in the perturbative QCD + saturation model. The exponents depend on the small-$x$ behaviour of gluon distribution functions at an $x$-dependent scale. The relation between initial state and final state saturation is also discussed.
We compute the influence of Coulomb effects on the charged kaon distribution at low momentum in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. This is accomplished by solving the Vlasov equation for the kaons in the presence of an expanding, highly charged, fireball.
The electromagnetic form factors of strange mesons and baryons are studied by means of kaon electroproduction on the nucleon. The response functions that are sensitive to the K0, Lambda, Sigma, and KK*γtransition form factors are systematically explored. The effects of these form factors on several response functions are discussed.
Quantum interference effects between past and future events (neutral kaon transitions, including CP violating decays) are discussed for entangled kaon pairs produced through $ϕ\to K^0 \bar{K^0}$ in $ϕ$-factories. Contrasting with the exciting conclusions of other recent analyses, we predict the inexistence of such an observable effect.
