Motivated by the very recent observations of hidden charm pentaquarks $P_c(4312)^+$, $P_c(4440)^+$ and $P_c(4457)^+$ of the LHCb Collaboration, we systematically study the spectra of the doubly-heavy (with or without charm/bottom numbers) pentaquarks and tetraquarks in non-relativistic constituent quark model. The model independent variational method is employed to solve the Schrödinger equation, where the test functions adopted are symmetric for the light quarks. In our study, the $P_c(4312)^+$ may be assigned as the ground state with spin-parity $\frac{1}{2}^-$ or $\frac{3}{2}^-$, while the $P_c(4440)^+$ and $P_c(4457)^+$ may be assigned as the excited states with $\frac{1}{2}^-$, which might all belong to the sextet with $s_{c\bar{c}}=1$ and $s_\ell=\frac{3}{2}$. It is notable that our working framework is quite similar to that of Hydrogen molecule, but with different potential structure. We also classify these pentaquarks and tetraquarks in light of the heavy quark symmetry and their decay properties are analyzed. Several promising channels for the observation of doubly-heavy pentaquarks and doubly-heavy tetraquarks in experiment are proposed.
We study the multiquark hadrons in large $N$ QCD under the 't-Hooft limit, extending Witten's picture of the baryons. We explore the decay widths of tetraquarks, pentaquarks and dibaryons. Based on the decay behaviors, we point out in the $N\to \infty$ limit decay widths of tetraquarks stay constant, while those of pentaquarks and dibaryons above certain thresholds can diverge. In the large $N$ limit, we find that the ground states of the three spectroscopic series are stable or narrow and that the excited states of pentaquarks and dibaryons above the indicated thresholds are not observables. …
We perform a systematic exploration of the possible doubly charmed molecular pentaquarks composed of $Σ_c^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ with the one-boson-exchange potential model. After taking into account the $S-D$ wave mixing and the coupled channel effects, we predict several possible doubly charmed molecular pentaquarks, which include the $Σ_cD$ with $I(J^P) = 1/2(1/2^-)$, $Σ_c^*D$ with $1/2(3/2^-)$, and $Σ_cD^*$ with $1/2(1/2^-)$, $1/2(3/2^-)$. The $Σ_cD$ state with $3/2(1/2^-)$ and $Σ_cD^*$ state with $3/2(1/2^-)$ may also be suggested as candidates of doubly charmed molecular pentaquarks. The $Σ_cD$ a…
With the development of high energy physics experiments, a large amount of exotic states in the hadronic sector have been observed. In order to shed some insights on the nature of the tetraquark and pentaquark candidates, a constituent quark model, along with the gaussian expansion method, has been employed systematically in the real- and complex-range investigations. We review herein the double- and full-heavy tetraquarks, but also the hidden-charm, -bottom and doubly charmed pentaquarks. Several experimentally observed exotic hadrons are well reproduced within our approach; moreover, their p…
In this work, we discuss the electromagnetic properties of the $S$-wave $Σ_c^{(*)}D^{(*)}$-type doubly charmed molecular pentaquarks, which have close relation to their inner structures. Both the $S$-$D$ wave mixing effect and the coupled channel effect are taken into account. We analyze the magnetic moments for the $S$-wave $Σ_c^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ molecular states, and extend our theoretical framework to study the transition magnetic moments and the radiative decay widths between the $S$-wave $Σ_c^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ molecules. We discuss the relations between the magnetic moments and the transition mag…
Motivated by the latest discovery of doubly-charmed tetraquark $T^+_{cc}$ by LHCb collaboration, we have studied the magnetic moments of the possible doubly-heavy pentaquark states with quantum numbers $J^P = 1/2^-$ and $J^P = 3/2^-$ within the light-cone sum rules method. In the analysis, these possible pentaquark states are considered in diquark-diquark-antiquark structure. The magnetic moments of hadrons encode helpful details about the distributions of the charge and magnetization inside the hadrons, which help us to figure out their geometric configurations. As a by product, the electric …
Greig Cowan and Tim Gershon describe new types of matter called tetraquarks and pentaquarks, and discuss the outlook for understanding these particles.
In two recent papers, we used the hadro-quarkonium model to study the properties of hidden-charm and bottom tetraquarks and pentaquarks. Here, we extend the previous results and calculate the masses of heavy-quarkonium-kaon/hyperon systems. We also compute the spectrum of hidden-charm and bottom tetraquarks with strangeness in the compact tetraquark (diquark-antidiquark) model. If heavy-light exotic systems with non-null strangeness content were to be observed experimentally, it might be possible to distinguish among the large variety of available theoretical pictures for tetra- and pentaquark…
We study the spectra of the doubly charmed tetraquark states in a diquark-antidiquark model. The doubly charmed tetraquark states form an antitriplet and a sextet configurations according to flavor SU(3) symmetry. For the tetraquark state $[qq'][\bar c\bar c]$, we show the mass for both bound and excited states. The two-body decays of tetraquark states $T^{cc}[0^+]$ and $T^{cc}[1^{--}]$ to charmed mesons have also been studied. In the end,the doubly charmed tetraquarks decays to a charmed baryon and a light baryon have been studied in the SU(3) flavor symmetry.
In this article, we study the doubly heavy baryon states and pentaquark states with the QCD sum rules by carrying out the operator product expansion up to the vacuum condensates of dimension $7$ and $13$ respectively in a consistent way. In calculations, we separate the contributions of the negative parity and positive parity hadron states unambiguously, and study the masses and pole residues of the doubly heavy baryon states and pentaquark states in details. The present predictions can be confronted to the experimental data in the future.
In the heavy-quark limit, the two heavy quarks in a doubly heavy baryon or a doubly heavy tetraquark are bound by their color-Coulomb potential into a compact diquark. The doubly heavy hadrons are related by the approximate heavy-quark--diquark symmetry of QCD to the heavy hadrons obtained by replacing the heavy diquark by a heavy antiquark. Effective field theories can be used to expand the masses of singly heavy hadrons and doubly heavy hadrons in inverse powers of the heavy quark masses. The coefficients in the expansions for doubly heavy tetraquarks can be determined from those for heavy m…
In this talk, after a short overview of the history of the discovery of tetra-quarks and penta-quarks, we will discuss a possible interpretation of such states in the framework of a 40-years-old "string junction" picture that allows a unified QCD description of ordinary mesons and baryons as well as multi-quark resonances.
We consider the interplay of the pentaquark states and strange tetraquark states in the decay $Λ^0_b\to K^-J/ψp$. Possible existence of ($cs\bar c\bar u$)-states is taken up and their manifestation in the $K^-J/ψ$-channel is discussed. It is emphasised that these exotic mesons can imitate broad bumps in the in the $pJ/ψ$-channel.
We consider the production and decay of multiquark systems in the framework of string models where the hadron structure is determined by valence quarks together with string junctions. We show that the low mass multiquark resonances can be very narrow.
States beyond those expected in the simple constituent quark model are now emerging. I focus on the scalar glueball and its mixing with states in the $q\bar{q}$ nonet, and also on correlations in Strong QCD that may form diquarks and seed $qq\bar{q}\bar{q}$ states. Some models of the pentaquark candidate $Θ(1540)$ are critically discussed.
We review how lattice QCD can contribute to the prediction and the comprehension of tetraquarks, pentaquarks and related exotic hadrons, with at least one heavy quark. We include all families of exotic hadrons, except for the quarkless glueballs and the hexaquarks which are related to nuclear physics. Since the discovery of quarks and the development of the QCD theory, there has been a large interest in exotic hadrons, initiated by the tetraquark models developed by Jaffe in 1977. Lattice QCD, being a first principle approach to solve non-perturbative QCD, has been crucial not only to compute …
Our hadro-charmonium and compact tetraquark model predictions, published before the BESIII and LHCb experimental data for the $Z_{\rm cs}(3985)$ and $Z_{\rm cs}(4003)$ tetraquarks were released, match surprisingly well with them. Here, we extend our results for the $P_{\rm cs}$ states to $Λ$ + charmonium configurations and also our hadro-charmonium predictions for $Z_{\rm c}$ and $X_{\rm c}$ tetraquarks to charmonium + pion/eta. We use them, in combination with our previous findings, to discuss the possible emergence of SU(3)$_{\rm f}$ pentaquark octets and tetraquark nonets in the hidden-char…
We study the masses and lifetimes of doubly charmed pentaquark $P_{cc\bar qqq}(q=u,d,s)$ primarily. The operation of masses carried out by the doubly heavy triquark-diquark model, whose results suggests the existence of stable states $cc\bar s ud$ with the parity $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^-$. The roughly calculation about lifetimes show the short magnitudes, $(4.65^{+0.71}_{-0.55})\times 10^{-13}s $ for the parity $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^-$ and $(0.93^{+0.14}_{-0.11})\times 10^{-12} s $ for $J^P=\frac{3}{2}^-$. Since the pentaquark $cc\bar s ud$ is interpreted as the stable bound states against strong decays,…
Thirty years ago we proposed string junction model of hadrons and examined structure and reaction of hadrons including exotic ones. Mass $m$ of exotic hadrons of light quarks is roughly given by $m \sim N_J\cdot m_B$, where $N_J$ is the total number of junctions and $m_B \sim 1$ GeV is the ordinary light baryon mass. In this paper we introduce "cluster hypothesis" into the model by which mass of a complex hadron is given by the sum of masses of clusters composing it. The hypothesis guarantees the established picture that mass differences of hadrons of the same string junction structure are due…
We evaluate the static $qq\bar{q}\bar{q}$ and $qqqq\bar{q}$ potentials in the quenched theory at $β=5.8$ and $β=6.0$ on a lattice of size $16^3\times 32$. We compare the static potentials to the sum of two meson potentials for the tetraquark system and to the sum of the baryonic and mesonic potentials for the pentaquark state, as well as, with the confining potential obtained in the strong coupling expansion.
In this invited short "news and views", we review very briefly the history of pentaquark studies and the recent observations of the tetraquark and pentaquark states. We also discuss further experimental studies such as at Belle-II.
In this article, we perform a systematic study of the mass spectrum of the scalar doubly charmed and doubly bottom tetraquark states using the QCD sum rules.
Possible experimental searches of doubly charmed baryons and tetraquarks at fixed target experiments with high energy hadron beams and a high intensity spectrometer are considered here. The baryons considered are: $Ξ_{cc}^{+}$ (ccd), $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ (ccu), and $Ω_{cc}^{+}$ (ccs); and the tetraquark is T ($cc\bar{u}\bar{d}$). Estimates are given of masses, lifetimes, internal structure, production cross sections, decay modes, branching ratios, and yields. Experimental requirements are given for optimizing the signal and minimizing the backgrounds. The discussion is in the spirit of an experimenta…
Energy spectrum of doubly heavy tetraquarks, $T_{QQ}$ ($QQ \bar{q} \bar{q}$ with $Q = c, b$ and $q = u, d, s$), is studied in the potential chiral-diquark model. Using the chiral effective theory of diquarks and the quark-diquark-based potential model, the $T_{bb}$, $T_{cc}$, and $T_{cb}$ tetraquarks are described as a three-body system composed of two heavy quarks and an antidiquark. We find several $T_{bb}$ bound states, while no $T_{cc}$ and $T_{cb}$ (deep) bound state is seen. We also study the change of the $T_{QQ}$ tetraquark masses under restoration of chiral symmetry.
The LHCb Collaboration, using its full data set from runs $1$ and $2$, announced in $2019$ a surprising update of the hidden-charm pentaquark states $P_c(4380)^+$ and $P_c(4450)^+$, observed in 2015. A new state, $P_c(4312)^+$, was clearly seen at lower energies; furthermore, the original $P_c(4450)$ resonance was resolved into two individual states, named the $P_c(4440)^+$ and the $P_c(4457)^+$. Motivated by the fact that these new hidden-charm pentaquark states were successfully predicted by our chiral quark model, we extend herein such study to the doubly charmed sector. The analyzed total …
In this article, we construct the axialvector-diquark-scalar-antidiquark type currents to interpolate the axialvector doubly heavy tetraquark states, and study them with the QCD sum rules in details by carrying out the operator product expansion up to the vacuum condensates of dimension 10.
The feasibility of tetraquark detection is studied. For the cc\bar{u}\bar{d} tetraquark we show that in present (SELEX, Tevatron, RHIC) and future facilities (LHCb, ALICE) the production rate is promising and we propose some detectable decay channels.
Recent discoveries by Belle and BESIII of charged exotic quarkonium-like resonances provide fresh impetus for study of heavy exotic hadrons. In the limit N_c --> infinity, M_Q --> infinity, the (Qbar Q qbar q') tetraquarks (TQ-s) are expected to be narrow and slightly below or above the (Qbar q') and (Q qbar) two-meson threshold. The isoscalar TQ-s manifest themselves by decay to (Qbar Q) pi pi, and the ~30 MeV heavier charged isotriplet TQ-s by decays into (Qbar Q) pi. The new data strongly suggest that the real world with N_c=3, Q=c,b and q,q' = u,d is qualitatively described by the above li…
With a view to exploring a new kind of phase transition in the process of hadronization of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) we investigate the occurrence of pentaquark baryons and tetraquark mesons in the system. For this purpose, the frame work of an analoguous Saha's ionization formula for the colored ions in the system is used. The study of color-ionic-fraction (CIF) of multiply (color) ionized to unionized quark clusters (termed as "quarkons") as a function of temperature is carried out. It is pointed out that not only the temperature of the fire-ball in the relativistic heavy ion collisions evolv…
In the paper we discuss contribution of the doubly intrinsic heavy mechanism into the production of $B_c$ meson, the doubly heavy baryons and the all-charm tetraquark at a future fixed-target experiment at the LHC (AFTER@LHC). The production cross sections and the mean values of Feynman-x for the finale states are presented.
Using an extended chromomagnetic model, we perform a systematic study of the masses of the doubly heavy tetraquarks. We find that the ground states of the doubly heavy tetraquarks are dominated by color-triplet $\ket{(qq)^{\bar{3}_{c}}(\bar{Q}\bar{Q})^{3_{c}}}$ configuration, which is opposite to that of the fully heavy tetraquarks. The combined results suggest that the color-triplet configuration becomes more important when the mass difference between the quarks and antiquarks increases. We find three stable states which lie below the thresholds of two pseudoscalar mesons. They are the $IJ^{P…
We study hadronic molecular states in a coupled system of $J/ψN - Λ_c\bar{D}^{(*)} - Σ_c^{(*)}\bar{D}^{(*)}$ in $I(J^P) = \frac{1}{2}(\frac{3}{2}^-)$ channel, using the complex scaling method combined with the Gaussian expansion method. We construct the potential including one pion exchange and one $D^{(*)}$ meson exchange with $S$-wave orbital angular momentum. We find that the both mass and width of the pentaquark $P_c(4380)$ can be reproduced within a reasonable parameter region, and that its main decay mode is $Λ_c\bar{D}^*$. We extend our analysis to a coupled system of $Λ_c D^{(*)} - Σ_c…
In the present work, the mass spectra of doubly heavy tetraquarks $T_{QQ^\prime}$ are systematically investigated in a relativized quark model. The four-body systems including the Coulomb potential, confining potential, spin-spin interactions, and relativistic corrections are solved within the variational method. Our results suggest that the $IJ^P=01^+$ $bb \bar u \bar d$ state is 54 MeV below the relevant $\bar B \bar B$ and $\bar B \bar B^*$ thresholds, which indicates that both strong and electromagnetic decays are forbidden, and thus this state can be a stable one. Its large hidden color c…
Stimulated by the newly reported doubly-charmed tetraquark state $T_{cc}^+$ by LHCb, we carry out a systematic investigation of the $S$-wave interactions between the charmed meson ($D,\,D^{*}$) in $H$-doublet and the charmed meson ($D_{1},\,D_{2}^{*}$) in $T$-doublet by adopting the one-boson-exchange model. Both the $S$-$D$ wave mixing effect and the coupled channel effect are taken into account. By performing a quantitative calculation, we suggest that the $S$-wave $D^{*} D_{1}$ states with $I(J^{P})=0(0^{-},\,1^{-})$ and the $S$-wave $D^{*}D_{2}^{*}$ state with $I(J^{P})=0(1^{-})$ should be…
In the past decade many charmonium-like states were observed experimentally. Especially those charged charmonium-like $Z_c$ states and bottomonium-like $Z_b$ states can not be accommodated within the naive quark model. These charged $Z_c$ states are good candidates of either the hidden-charm tetraquark states or molecules composed of a pair of charmed mesons. Recently, the LHCb Collaboration discovered two hidden-charm pentaquark states, which are also beyond the quark model. In this work, we review the current experimental progress and investigate various theoretical interpretations of these …
The LHCb experiment at CERN has discovered a doubly charmed isoscalar tetraquark $T_{cc}$ with the quantum numbers of $c c \bar u \bar d$ and mass of about 3875 MeV/$c^2$, decaying to $D^0 D^0 π^+$ through the intermediate channel $D^{*+} D^0$. We present a study of its strange companions with the quantum numbers of $c c \bar q \bar s$, where $q = u, d$ and isospin violation is neglected.
In this article, we construct the axialvector-diquark-axialvector-antidiquark type currents to interpolate the scalar, axialvector, vector, tensor doubly charmed tetraquark states, and study them with QCD sum rules systematically by carrying out the operator product expansion up to the vacuum condensates of dimension 10 in a consistent way, the predicted masses can be confronted to the experimental data in the future. We can search for those doubly charmed tetraquark states in the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka super-allowed strong decays to the charmed meson pairs.
Recently LHCb discovered the first doubly-charmed baryon $Ξ_{cc}^{++} = ccu$ at $3621.40 \pm 0.78$ MeV, very close to our theoretical prediction. We use the same methods to predict a doubly-bottom tetraquark $T(bb\bar u\bar d)$ with $J^P{=}1^+$ at $10,389\pm 12$ MeV, 215 MeV below the $B^-\bar B^{*0}$ threshold and 170 MeV below threshold for decay to $B^-\bar B^0 γ$. The $T(bb\bar u\bar d)$ is therefore stable under strong and electromagnetic (EM) interactions and can only decay weakly, the first exotic hadron with such a property. On the other hand, the mass of $T(cc\bar u\bar d)$ with $J^P{…
In the framework of the chiral quark model along with complex scaling range, we perform a dynamical study on the low-lying $S$-wave doubly-heavy tetraquark states ($QQ\bar{q}\bar{q}$, $Q=c, b$ and $q=u, d$) with an accurate computing approach, Gaussian expansion method. The meson-meson and diquark-antidiquark configurations within all possible color structures for spin-parity quantum numbers $J^P=0^+$, $1^+$ and $2^+$, and in the $0$ and $1$ isospin sectors are considered. Possible tightly bound and narrow resonance states are obtained for doubly-charm and doubly-bottom tetraquarks with $IJ^P=…
We review the predictions of the quark model for the doubly-heavy tetraquarks $QQ\bar q\bar q$. The possibility of resonances near the $BB^*$ threshold in addition to a deeply bound state is discussed.
We give heavy quark-diquark symmetry predictions for doubly heavy baryons and tetraquarks in light of the recent discovery of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ by LHCb. For five excited doubly charm baryons that are predicted to lie below the $Λ_c D$ threshold, we give predictions for their electromagnetic and strong decays using a previously developed chiral Lagrangian with heavy quark-diquark symmetry. Based on the mass of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$, the existence of a doubly heavy bottom $I=0$ tetraquark that is stable to the strong and electromagnetic decays has been predicted. If the mass of this state is below 1…
In the light of the recent discovery of the $Ξ^{++}_{cc}$ by LHCb collaboration, we study the stable doubly heavy tetraquarks. These states are compact exotic hadrons which can be approximated as the diquark-anti-diquark correlations. In the flavor SU(3) symmetry, they form an SU(3) triplet or anti-sextet. The spectra of the stable doubly heavy tetraquark states are predicted by Sakharov-Zeldovich formula. We find that the $T^+_{cc\bar{u}\bar{d}}({\bf 3})$ is about 16MeV below the $DD^*$ threshold, while $T^{-}_{bb\bar{u}\bar{d}}({\bf 3})$ is about 73MeV below the $BB^*$ threshold. We then stu…
Quantum chromodynamics - the theory of quarks and gluons - has been known for decades, but it is yet to be fully understood. A recent example is the prediction and experimental discovery of tetraquarks, that opened a new research field. Crucially, numerous unsolved questions of the standard model can exclusively be addressed by nonperturbative calculations. Quantum computers can solve problems for which well established QCD methods are inapplicable, such as real-time evolution. We take a key step in exploring this possibility by performing a real-time evolution of tetraquark and pentaquark phy…
We perform a systematic study on the interactions of the $Σ_c^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ systems within the framework of chiral effective field theory. We introduce the contact term, one-pion-exchange and two-pion-exchange contributions to describe the short-, long-, and intermediate-range interactions. The low energy constants of the $Σ_c^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ systems are estimated from the $N\bar{N}$ scattering data by introducing a quark level Lagrangian. With three solutions of LECs, all the $Σ_c^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ systems with isospin $I=1/2$ can form bound states, in which different inputs of LECs may lead to dis…
