The spectra of heavy quarkonia are studied in two approaches: with the use of the Afonin-Pusenkov representation of the Regge trajectory for the squared excitation energy $E^2(nl)$ (ERT), and using the relativistic Hamiltonian with the universal interaction. The parameters of the ERTs are extracted from experimental mass differences and their values in bottomonium: the intercept $a(b\bar b)=0.131\,$GeV$^2$, the slope of the orbital ERT $b_l(b\bar b) =0.50$\,GeV$^2$, and the slope of the radial ERT, $b_n(b\bar b)=0.724$\,GeV$^2$, appear to be smaller than those in charmonium, where $a(c\bar c)=0.381$\,GeV$^2$, $b_l(c\bar c)=0.686$\,GeV$^2$, and the radial slope $b_n(c\bar c)= 1.074$\,GeV$^2$, which value is close to that in light mesons, $b_n(q\bar q)=1.1(1)$\,GeV$^2$. For the resonances above the $D\bar D$ threshold the masses of the $χ_{c0}(nP)$ with $n=2,3,4$, equal to 4218\,MeV, 4503\,MeV, 4754\,MeV, are obtained, while above the $B\bar B$ threshold the resonances $Υ(3\,^3D_1)$ with the mass 10693\,MeV and $χ_{b1}(4\,^3P_1)$ with the mass 10756\,MeV are predicted.
In this paper we show that heavy quarckonium states, similar to light mesons, form Regge trajectories in $(n,M^2)$ and $(M^2,J)$ planes and the slope of these trajectories is independent on the quantum numbers of the mesons. This fact can be useful for the prediction of the masses of heavy quarkonia and the determination of the quantum numbers of the newly discovered states.
The mass spectra of charmonia, bottomonia and B_c mesons are calculated in the framework of the QCD-motivated relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. The dynamics of heavy quarks and antiquarks is treated fully relativistically without application of the nonrelativistic v^2/c^2 expansion. The known one-loop radiative corrections to the heavy quark potential are taken into account perturbatively. The heavy quarkonium masses are calculated up to rather high orbital and radial excitations (L=5, n_r=5). On this basis the Regge trajectories are constructed both in the total a…
Using an unquenched lattice potential to calculate the spectrum of the bottomonium system, we demonstrate numerically that the effect of pair creation is to produce termination of hadronic Regge trajectories, in contrast to the Veneziano model and the vast majority of phenomenological generalizations. Termination of Regge trajectories may have significant experimental consequences.
By assuming the existence of (quasi)-linear Regge trajectories for heavy quarkonia in the low energy region, we derive a new, sixth power, meson mass relation which shows good agreement with experiment for both charmed and beauty mesons. This relation may be reduced to a quadratic Gell-Mann-Okubo type formula by fitting the values of the Regge slopes of these (quasi)-linear trajectories. For charmed mesons, such a formula holds with an accuracy of $\sim 1$%, and is in qualitative agreement with the relation obtained previously by the application of the linear spectrum to a meson hexadecuplet.
Exclusive photoproduction of heavy quarkonia at HERA is analyzed in the framework of the Regge-eikonal approach together with the nonrelativistic bound state formalism. Total and differential cross-sections for the process $γ+p\to (Q\bar{Q})_{1S}+p$ are calculated. The model predicts cross-sections of Exclusive Double Diffractive Events (EDDE) at TeVatron and LHC.
Under the assumption that both light and heavy quarkonia populate approximately linear Regge trajectories with the requirements of additivity of intercepts and inverse slopes, the masses of different meson multiplets are estimated. The predictions derived from the quasi-linear Regge trajectories are in reasonable agreement with those given by many other references.
The nonlinearity of Regge trajectories at real negative values of the argument is discussed as their general QCD-inspired property. The processes of elastic diffractive scattering $p+p\to p+p$ and $\bar p+p\to\bar p+p$ at collision energies $\sqrt{s}>23 GeV$ and transferred momenta squared $0.005 GeV^2<-t<3 GeV^2$ are considered in the framework of the Regge-eikonal model \cite{arnold}. By comparison of phenomenological estimates with available experimental data on angular distributions it is demonstrated that in this kinematical range the data can be satisfactorily described as if taking into…
We present a calculation of the spectrum of light and heavy quark bound states in the rainbow-ladder truncation of Dyson-Schwinger/Bethe-Salpeter equations. By extending the formalism include the case of total angular momentum J=3, we are able to explore Regge trajectories and make prediction of tensor bound states for light and heavy quarkonia.
We analyze the asymptotic behavior of Regge trajectories of non-strange mesons. In contrast to an existing belief, it is demonstrated that for the asymptotically linear Regge trajectories the width of heavy hadrons cannot linearly depend on their mass. Using the data on masses and widths of rho_J, omega_J, a_J and f_J mesons for the spin values J \leq 6, we extract the parameters of the asymptotically linear Regge trajectory predicted by the finite width model of quark gluon bags. As it is shown the obtained parameters for the data set B correspond to the cross-over temperature lying in the in…
Status of investigations of the new observed charmed strange mesons DsJ(2317), DsJ(2460) and DsJ(2632) is simply listed. A systemic classification to these states with Regge trajectories was made. We found that DsJ(2317) and DsJ(2460) are reasonable to be arranged as (0^+,1^+), but DsJ(2632) seems not possible to be an orbital excited tensor particle. As a byproduct, the non-strange charmed mesons including D'1(2427) and D*(2637) were analyzed also.
Mass spectra of heavy baryons are calculated in the heavy-quark--light-diquark picture in the framework of the QCD-motivated relativistic quark model. The dynamics of light quarks in the diquark as well as the dynamics of the heavy quark and light diquark in the baryon are treated completely relativistically without application of nonrelativistic v/c and heavy quark 1/m_Q expansions. Such approach allows us to get predictions for the heavy baryon masses for rather high orbital and radial excitations. On this basis the Regge trajectories of heavy baryons for orbital and radial excitations are c…
The spectrum of the $s\bar s$ mesons is studied performing a phenomenological analysis of the Regge trajectories defined for the excitation energies. For the $ϕ(3 ^3S_1)$ state the mass $M(ϕ(3S))=2100(20)$ MeV and the leptonic width $Γ_{ee}(ϕ(3S))=0.27(2)$ keV are obtained, while the mass of the $2 ^3D_1$ state, $M(ϕ(2 ^3D_3))=2180(5)$ MeV, appears to be in agreement with the mass of the $ϕ(2170)$ resonance, and its leptonic width, $Γ_{ee}(2 ^3D_1)=0.20\pm 0.10$ keV, has a large theoretical uncertainty, depending on the parameters of the flattened confining potential.
A new physical mechanism is suggested to explain the universal depletion of high meson excitations. It takes into account the appearance of holes inside the string world sheet due to $q\bar{q}$ pair creation when the length of the string exceeds the critical value $R_1 \simeq 1.4$ fm. It is argued that a delicate balance between large $N_c$ loop suppression and a favorable gain in the action, produced by holes, creates a new metastable (predecay) stage with a renormalized string tension which now depends on the separation r. This results in smaller values of the slope of the radial Regge traje…
It is illustrated by the fitted Regge trajectories for a large majority of mesons that both the radial and orbital Regge trajectories for mesons prefer being concave. The concavity of the meson Regge trajectories is model-independent. If the convex Regge trajectories or the Regge trajectories having the inflection points do not exist, the concavity can act as a criterion to choose a newly observed meson or to assign a particle to the unwell-established state. The curvature of the meson Regge trajectories can be taken as a guide in constructing models. The appropriate models should yield the sp…
We have reconstructed Regge trajectories (RT), using all existing data on masses and spin-parities of all currently known hadrons. In this resonance energy region meson and baryon RT are grossly nonlinear, and only 12% of all RT could be classified as a linear, with $σ=0$, $α'\simeq 0.9$ GeV${}^{-2}$.
I briefly review the Regge approach to the hadron spectrum and advocate a dynamical emergence of principal quantum number in the known spectrum of light non-strange mesons. Further it is shown how the linear radial trajectories with universal slope can be extended to heavy quarkonia and a qualitative string interpretation is given. After that I discuss a recently proposed non-string model leading to a natural appearance of linear Regge trajectories and explaining many mass relations.
Early Chew-Frautschi plots show that meson and baryon Regge trajectoies are approximately linear and non-intersecting. In this paper, we reconstruct all Regge trajectories from the most recent data. Our plots show that meson trajectories are non-linear and intersecting. We also show that all current meson Regge trajectories models are ruled out by data.
We investigate the structure of the meson Regge trajectories based on the quadratic form of the spinless Salpeter-type equation. It is found that the forms of the Regge trajectories depend on the energy region. As the employed Regge trajectory formula does not match the energy region, the fitted parameters neither have explicit physical meanings nor obey the constraints although the fitted Regge trajectory can give the satisfactory predictions if the employed formula is appropriate mathematically. Moreover, the consistency of the Regge trajectories obtained from different approaches is discuss…
On the basis of the RG invariance we show, in particular, that the Regge trajectory intercept cannot be calculated as a function of the coupling constant.
We present theoretical arguments and strong phenomenological evidence that hadronic Regge trajectories are essentially nonlinear and can be well approximated, for phenomenological purposes, by a specific square-root form.
Masjuan, Arriola, and Broniowski [Phys. Rev. D85, 094006 (2012)] claim that the slope of the light-quark radial trajectories is 1.35 +- 0.04 GeV^2, disagreeing with the Crystal Barrel value 1.143 +- 0.013 GeV^2. There are defects in their choice of data. When these defects are revised, results come back close to the Crystal Barrel average for the slope. A revised average value is given here.
We have investigated the Regge trajectories of exotic hadrons by considering different possible pentaquark configurations with finite quark mass in the flux tube model. Signifi- cant deviation is observed in the linear behavior of the Regge trajectories for pentaquark systems in view of the universal value of the Regge slope parameter for hadrons. The modified Regge trajectories are also compared with the available experimental and lat- tice data. It is observed that the non-linear Regge trajectories of such pentaqurk systems can be well described by the relativistic corrections in view of the…
Recent research has indicated that meson and baryon Regge trajectories are nonlinear and that all current models are ruled out by data. Tang and Norbury have identified a number of properties for Regge trajectories: a test zone for linearity, divergence, parallelism and intersecting lines. Likewise, Inopin has reconstructed Regge trajectories for mesons and baryons, indicating that a majority of trajectories is grossly nonlinear. In most of the models for Regge trajectories, there is no indication that researchers have studied particle binding energies to explain the deviation of experimental …
We present a new generalized string model for Regge trajectories J=J(E^2), where J and E are the orbital momentum and energy of the string, respectively. We demonstrate that this model is not to produce linear Regge trajectories, in contrast to the standard Nambu-Goto string, but generally nonlinear trajectories, which in many cases can be given in analytic form. As an example, we show how the model generates square-root, logarithmic and hyperbolic trajectories that have been discussed in the literature.
The masses of $ψ((n+1) {}^3S_1)$ and $ψ(n {}^3D_1)$ are calculated using the relativistic string Hamiltonian with "linear+gluon-exchange" potential. They occur in the range 4.5-5.8 GeV, in particular, $M(3D)=4.54$ GeV, $M(5S)=4.79$ GeV, $M(4D)=4.85$ GeV are calculated with accuracy $\sim 50$ MeV. Linear Regge trajectories: $M^2(nS)=M^2(ψ(4.42))+ 2.91$ GeV$^2 (n-4)$ $(n\geq 4) $ and $M^2(nD)=(4.54^2+ 2.88 (n-3))$ GeV$^2$ ($n\geq 3$) are obtained only for higher charmonium excitations. They have slopes two times larger than those of light mesons and give good description of calculated masses. Th…
We review how the Regge trajectory of an elastic resonance can be obtained just from its pole position and coupling, using a dispersive formalism. This allows us to deal correctly with the finite widths of resonances in Regge trajectories. In this way we can calculate the Regge trajectories for the $K^*(892)$, $K_1(1400)$ and $K^*_0(1430)$, obtaining ordinary linear Regge trajectories, expected for $q \bar q$ resonances. In contrast, for the $K^*_0(800)$ meson, the resulting Regge trajectory is non-linear and with much smaller slope, strongly supporting its non-ordinary nature.
We argue that two seemingly different phenomena, namely the well-known saturation of the Hagedorn exponential distribution and the less familiar saturation of Regge trajectories at resonance masses $m\approx$ 2-2.5 GeV are related and have the same origin: quark deconfinement. We show that the slope of the real part of non-linear Regge trajectories determines the prefactor $f(m)$ in Hagedorn's resonance mass density distribution $ρ(m)$. While the Hagedorn distribution comes from statistics, Regge trajectories contain dynamics.
In his Comment, D. Bugg argues against our usage of the PDG collection of light non-strange states together with the half-width rule to analyze the linearity of radial and angular-moment Regge trajectories in the large-N_c limit. After taking into account his observations on our choice of data, the radial Regge trajectories are again analyzed. We still find that our conclusion on the lack of universality between radial- and angular-momentum Regge trajectories is valid.
We propose a model-independent ansatz $M={β_x}\left(x+c_0\right)^ν+c_1$ ($x=l,\,n_r$) and then use it to fit the orbital and radial pion Regge trajectories without the preset values. It is shown that nonzero $c_1$ is reasonable and acceptable. Nonzero $c_1$ gives an explanation for the nonlinearity of the pion Regge trajectories in the usually employed $(M^2,\,x)$ plane. As $m_R$ or $c_1$ is chosen appropriately, both the orbital and radial pion Regge trajectories are linear in the $((M-m_R)^2,\,x)$ plane whether the $π^0$ is included or not on the Regge trajectories. The fitted pion Regge tra…
Two models for the Pomeron, supplemented by exchange degenerate sub-leading Regge trajectories, are fitted to the forward scattering data for a number of reactions. By considering new Pomeron models, we extend the recent results of the COMPAS group, being consistent with our predecessors.
A semiclassical method of deriving Regge trajectories for the bound states of the Klein-Gordon equation with the interaction introduced in a non-minimal way is proposed. The method is applied to construction of the quarkonium Regge trajectories. It is found that under the relativistic generalization of the Cornell potential the Regge trajectories of charmonium are in the same good agreement with experimental data for introducing the confinement part of potential either in the minimal, or non-minimal way.
We discuss a possibility that linear Regge trajectories originate not from gluonic strings connecting quarks, as it is usually assumed, but from pion excitations of light hadrons. From this point of view, at large angular momenta both baryons and mesons lying on linear Regge trajectories are slowly rotating thick strings of pion field, giving rise to a universal slope computable from the pion decay constant. The finite resonance widths are mainly due to the semiclassical radiation of pion fields by the rotating elongated chiral solitons. Quantum fluctuations about the soliton determine a strin…
A model for baryonic Regge trajectories compatible with the threshold behavior required by unitarity and asymptotic behavior in agreement with analyticity constraints is given in explicit form. Widths and masses of the baryonic resonances on the N and $Δ$ trajectories are reproduced. The MacDowell symmetry is exploited and an application is given.
We analyze Regge trajectories in terms of the $1/N_c$ expansion of QCD. Neglecting spin-orbit contributions to the large $N_c$ baryon mass operator, we consider the evolution of the spin-flavor singlet component of the masses with respect to the angular momentum. We find two distinct and remarkably linear Regge trajectories for symmetric and for mixed symmetric spin-flavor multiplets.
The D-and F-wave quark-quark amplitudes are constructed in the framework of the dispersion N/D-method. The mass values of meson multiplets with $J^{PC}=1^{--},2^{--},2^{-+},3^{--}$ and $J^{PC}=2^{++},3^{++},3^{+-},4^{++}$ are calculated. The Regge trajectories of mesonic resonances with orbital numbers L=0,1,2,3 are obtained.
We present an analysis which uses Regge structure and the Bjorken and Voloshin HQET sum rules to restrict the choice of parameters of a relativistic quark model.
The closed relativistic string carrying two point-like masses is considered as the model of a glueball with two constituent gluons. Here the gluon-gluon interaction is simulated by a pair of strings. For this system exact solutions of classical equations of motions are obtained. They describe rotational states of the string resulting in the set of quasilinear Regge trajectories with different behavior.
We show how a field theory containing classical vortex solutions can be expressed as an effective string theory of long distance QCD describing the two transverse oscillations of the string. We use the semiclassical expansion of this effective string theory about a classical rotating string solution to obtain Regge trajectories for mesons with zero mass quarks. The first semiclassical correction adds the constant 1/12 to the classical Regge formula for the angular momentum of mesons on the leading Regge trajectory. In D spacetime dimensions, this additive constant is (D-2)/24. The excited stat…
We apply methods developed by Lovelace, Lipatov and Kirschner to evaluate the leading Regge trajectories α(t) with the quantum numbers of nonexotic quark-antiquark mesons at N_c = infinity and in the limit of t going to minus infinity. In this region renormalization group improved perturbation theory should be valid. We discuss the compatibility of nonlinear trajectories with narrow resonance approximations.
We show that Regge trajectories for all flavors suggested recently by Filipponi et al. cannot combine both meson spectroscopy and additivity of intercepts. Other defects of these trajectories are also discussed.
In this paper, masses and radii of $Σ^-_u$ states hybrid charmonium mesons are calculated by numerically solving the Schrödinger equation with non-relativistic potential model. Results for calculated masses of $Σ^-_u$ states charmonium hybrid mesons are found to be close to the results obtained through lattice simulations. Calculated masses are used to construct Regge trajectories. It is found that the trajectories are almost linear and parallel.
The effect of quark mass on the Regge trajectory is analysed. Modifications in the equations of Regge trajectories are shown for mesonic as well as baryonic systems. For mesonic systems, the Regge trajectories get modified, but still remain linear. Contrary to the mesonic case, the Regge trajectories for baryonic systems indicate non-linearity. It is shown that in low mass and angular momentum region two hadrons with different quark compositions can have same mass and angular momentum.
The dynamical picture of a quark-antiquark interaction in light mesons, which provides linearity of radial and orbital Regge trajectories (RT), is studied with the use of the relativistic string Hamiltonian with flattened confining potential and taking into account the self-energy and string corrections. Due to the flattening effect both slopes, $β_n$ of the radial and $β_l$ of the orbital RT, decrease by $\sim 30\%$ with the value of $β_n=1.30(5)$~GeV$^2$ being larger than $ β_l=0.95(5)$~GeV. The self-energy correction provides the linearity of RT and remains important up to very high excitat…
The orbital and radial excitations of light-light mesons are studied in the framework of the dominantly orbital state description. The equation of motion is characterized by a relativistic kinematics supplemented by the usual funnel potential with a mixed scalar and vector confinement. The influence of finite quark masses and potential parameters on Regge and vibrational trajectories is discussed. The case of heavy-light mesons is also presented.
Starting in sixties an active group of physicists under the guidance of Prof. K.A.Ter-Martirosyan was creating the theory of high-energy processes in QCD. From the beginning the key element of this theory is the notion of Regge trajectories and in particular of the pomeron trajectory, which have been introduced phenomenologically. In this talk I review the problem of spectrum and Regge trajectories as it can be derived from the nonperturbative QCD dynamics.
We discuss some problems concerning the application of perturbative QCD to high energy soft processes. We show that summing the contributions of the lowest twist operators for non-singlet $t$-channel leads to a Regge-like amplitude. Singlet case is also discussed.
An empirical principle for the construction of a linear relationship between the total angular momentum and squared-mass of baryons is proposed. In order to examine linearity of the trajectories, a rigorous least-squares regression analysis was performed. Unlike the standard Regge-Chew-Frautschi approach, the constructed trajectories do not have non-linear behaviour. A similar regularity may exist for lowest-mass mesons. The linear baryonic trajectories are well described by a semi-classical picture based on a spinning relativistic string with tension. The obtained numerical solution of this m…
Masses of the ground, orbitally and radially excited states of quark-antiquark mesons composed from the light (u,d,s) quarks are calculated within the framework of the relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. The relativistic treatment of the light quark dynamics results in mass spectra which agree well with available experimental data for the masses of the most well-established states. The Regge trajectories for angular and radial excitations are constructed, and their linearity, parallelism and equidistance are verified. The assignment of experimentally observed light m…
We scrutinized hadronic Regge trajectories in a framework of two different models --- string and potential. Our results are compared with broad spectrum of existing theoretical quark models and all experimental data from PDG98. It was recognized that Regge trajectories for mesons and baryons are not straight and parallel lines in general in the current resonance region both experimentally and theoretically, but very often have appreciable curvature, which is flavor-dependent. For a set of baryon Regge trajectories this fact is well described in the considered potential model. The standard stri…
A comprehensive phenomenological analysis of experimental data and some theoretical models is presented here (for mesons) to critically discuss how Regge trajectory parameters depend on flavor. Through analytic continuation of physical trajectories (obtained from resonance data) into the space like region, we derive the suppression factor for heavy flavor production. The case of our D Regge exchange, both for D and $Λ_c$ production, is considered in some detail. Good agreement with data is reached confirming that indeed the slopes of heavier flavors decrease. This result suggests that the conf…
The processes of exclusive photo- and electroproduction of vector mesons $ρ^0$(770), $ϕ$(1020) and $J/ψ$(3096) at collision energies $30 GeV<W<300 GeV$ and transferred momenta squared $0<-t<2 GeV^2$ are considered in the framework of a phenomenological Regge-eikonal scheme with nonlinear Regge trajectories in which their QCD asymptotic behavior is taken into account explicitly. By comparison of available experimental data from ZEUS and H1 Collaborations with the model predictions it is demonstrated that corresponding angular distributions and integrated cross-sections in the above-mentioned ki…
A model potential for two-particle relativistic systems is investigated in the framework of Poincare-invariant quantum mechanics (or relativistic Hamiltonian dynamics). The potential considered allows to reduce the main integro-differential equation of Poincare-invariant quantum mechanics to the equation analogous to the radial equation and have analytical solution for relativistic bound system. We discuss the possible choice of the parameters of potential and apply our model to the description of light meson Regge trajectories.
The exchange-degeneracy of the mesonic $f$, $ω$, $ρ$ and $a_{2}$ Regge trajectories, dominant at moderate and high energies in hadron elastic scattering, is analyzed from two viewpoints. The first one concerns the masses of the resonances lying on these trajectories; the second one deals with the total cross-sections and the ratios of the real to the imaginary parts of the forward amplitudes of hadron and photon induced reactions. Neither set of data supports exact exchange-degeneracy.
A simple relativistic quantum field model with the Yukawa-type interaction is considered to demonstrate that the analytic confinement of the constituent ("quarks") and carrier ("gluons") particles explains qualitatively the basic dynamical properties of the spectrum of mesons considered as two-particle stable bound states of quarks and gluons: the quarks and gluons are confined, the glueballs represent bound states of massless gluons, the masses of mesons are larger than the sum of the constituent quark masses and the Regge trajectories of mesonic orbital excitations are almost linear.
