In the framework of the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model, nuclear bubble configuration in the hypothetical $^{48}$Si nucleus is studied by proton induced central reaction at an incident beam energy of 0.8 GeV/nucleon. It is found that along the beam direction more energetic protons are emitted with bubble configuration in the target. In the forward angles, compared with the case without bubble configuration, less scattered energetic protons are emitted with bubble configuration in the target. We thus provide a new way to probe the bubble configuration in nuclei.
It is theoretically and experimentally argued that there may exist bubble or toroid-shaped configurations in some nucleus systems. Based on the nuclear transport model, it is shown that compared with the collision of normal nuclei, there is a depletion of central density of compression with bubble configurations in projectile and target nuclei. This depletion of central compression density may affect some observables in heavy-ion collisions.
The possible existence of a "bubble" structure in the proton density of $^{34}$Si has recently attracted a lot of research interest. To examine the existence of the "bubble" structure in low-lying states, we establish a relativistic version of configuration mixing of both particle number and angular momentum projected quadrupole deformed mean-field states and apply this state-of-the-art beyond relativistic mean-field method to study the density distribution of the low-lying states in $^{34}$Si. An excellent agreement with the data of low-spin spectrum and electric multipole transition strength…
The low-energy structure of 46Ar is of particular interest due to the possible coexistence of different shapes and the possible existence of proton bubble structure. In this work, we apply a beyond relativistic mean-field approach to study the low-energy structure of 46Ar. Correlations beyond the mean field are introduced by configuration mixing of both particle-number and angular-momentum projected axially deformed mean-field states. The low-lying spectroscopy and charge density in laboratory frame are calculated and an excellent agreement with available data is achieved. Even though an evide…
Around the nuclear Fermi momentum, there is a transition of nucleon momentum distribution n(k) in nuclear matter, i.e., from a constant to the $1/k^{4}$ nucleon momentum distribution. While nowadays the transition momentum of minority in asymmetric matter is rarely studied and thus undetermined. In the framework of the IBUU transport model, proton transition momentum in nuclei is first studied. It is found that the transition momentum of proton is sensitive to the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio as well as the energetic photon production in neutron-rich nuclear reaction. This result may push the study of …
The fully self-consistent Hartree-Fock (HF) plus random phase approximation (RPA) based on Skyrme-type interaction is used to study the existence problem of proton semi-bubble structure in the $2_1^+$ state of $^{34}$Si. The experimental excitation energy and the B(E2) strength of the $2_1^+$ state in $^{34}$Si can be reproduced quite well. The tensor effect is also studied. It is shown that the tensor interaction has a notable impact on the excitation energy of the $2_1^+$ state and a small effect on the B(E2) value. Besides, its effect on the density distributions in the ground and $2_1^+$ s…
Bubble nuclei are characterized by a depletion of their central density. Their existence is examined within three different theoretical frameworks: the shell model as well as non-relativistic and relativistic microscopic mean-field approaches. We propose $^{34}$Si and $^{22}$O as possible candidates for proton and neutron bubble nuclei, respectively. In the case of $^{22}$O, we observe a significant model dependence, thereby calling into question the bubble structure of $^{22}$O. In contrast, an overall agreement among the models is obtained for $^{34}$Si. Indeed, all models predict a central …
Applying the semi-realistic $NN$ interactions that include realistic tensor force to the Hartree-Fock calculations, we investigate tensor-force effects on the single-particle levels in the Ca isotopes. The semi-realistic interaction successfully describes the experimental difference between $\varepsilon(p1s_{1/2})$ and $\varepsilon(p0d_{3/2})$ (denoted by $\mathitΔ\varepsilon_{13}$) both at $^{40}$Ca and $^{48}$Ca, confirming importance of the tensor force. The tensor force plays a role in the $N$-dependence of $\mathitΔ\varepsilon_{13}$ also in neutron-rich Ca nuclei. While the $p1s_{1/2}$-$p…
We study the property of alpha-aggregates on a soap bubble shape within a microscopic framework, which takes full account of the Pauli principle. Our special attention is payed to the Coulomb energy for such an exotic shapes of nuclei, and we discuss the advantage of alpha-clusters with geometric configurations compared with the uniform density distributions in reducing the repulsive effect. We consider four kinds of configurations of alpha clusters on a soap bubble, which are dual polyhedra composed of a dodecahedron and an icosahedron, octacontahedron and two types of truncated icosahedrons,…
We consider torsional oscillations that are trapped in a layer of spherical-hole (bubble) nuclear structure, which is expected to occur in the deepest region of the inner crust of a neutron star. Because this layer intervenes between the phase of slab nuclei and the outer core of uniform nuclear matter, torsional oscillations in the bubble phase can be excited separately from usual crustal torsional oscillations. We find from eigenmode analyses for various models of the equation of state of uniform nuclear matter that the fundamental frequencies of such oscillations are almost independent of t…
Based on the relativistic transport model ART with the hadronic equation of state extended to have a phase transition via the use of the MIT bag model, properties of phase transition of dense nuclear matter formed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions are investigated. Proton sideward and directed flows are calculated with different equation of states in Au + Au collisions at beam energies of 2, 4, 6 and 8 GeV/nucleon. Compared with AGS experimental data in existence, the boundary of first-order phase transition is roughly confined, i.e., in the range of 2.5-4 times saturation density with temp…
The occurrence of the proton bubble-like structure has been studied within the relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (RHFB) and relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) theories by exploring the bulk properties, the charge density profiles and single proton spectra of argon isotopes and $N = 28$ isotones. It is found that the RHFB calculations with PKA1 effective interaction, which can properly reproduce the charge radii of argon isotopes and the $Z=16$ proton shell nearby, do not support the occurrence of the proton bubble-like structure in argon isotopes due to the prediction of deeper bound pro…
In order to investigate the nuclear symmetry energy at high density, we study the pion production in central collisions of neutron-rich nuclei ${}^{132}\mathrm{Sn}+{}^{124}\mathrm{Sn}$ at 300 MeV/nucleon using a new approach by combining the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) and a hadronic cascade model (JAM). The dynamics of neutrons and protons is solved by AMD, and then pions and $Δ$ resonances in the reaction process are handled by JAM. We see the mechanism how the $Δ$ resonance and pions are produced reflecting the dynamics of neutrons and protons. We also investigate the impacts o…
The recently confirmed neutron-shell closure at N = 32 has been investigated for the first time below the magic proton number Z = 20 with mass measurements of the exotic isotopes 52,53K, the latter being the shortest-lived nuclide investigated at the online mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP. The resulting two-neutron separation energies reveal a 3 MeV shell gap at N = 32, slightly lower than for 52Ca, highlighting the doubly-magic nature of this nuclide. Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Boguliubov and ab initio Gorkov-Green function calculations are challenged by the new measurements but reproduce qualitatively t…
We investigate the shell structure of spherical nuclear bubbles in simple phenomenological shell model potentials. The shell correction energies for doubly magic bubbles may be as large as -40 MeV and probably imply a very long lifetime against spontaneous fission. Beta-stability occurs for ratios of the neutron number N to the proton number Z which differ markable from the beta-stability valley of ordinary compact nuclei. The alpha-decay probability is shown to be very small for proton rich bubbles with a moderately large outer radius. Metastable islands of nuclear bubbles are shown to exist …
A compact approach based on the folding model is suggested for the determination of the isoscalar and isovector transition strengths of the low-lying ($ΔS=ΔT=0$) excitations induced by inelastic proton scattering measured with exotic beams. Our analysis of the recently measured inelastic $^{18,20}$O+p scattering data at $E_{\rm lab}=30$ and 43 MeV/nucleon has given for the first time an accurate estimate of the isoscalar $β_0$ and isovector $β_1$ deformation parameters (which cannot be determined from the (p,p') data alone by standard methods) for 2$^+_1$ and $3^-_1$ excited states in $^{18,20…
Charged pion photoproduction is proposed as a new method to study halo nuclei. In particular, it is demonstrated that the reaction 17O(gamma,pi^-)17F(1/2+, 0.495 MeV) is well-suited to investigate the well-known proton halo in 17F which is not amenable to radioactive beam experiments. The cross sections are shown to be very sensitive to the halo structure of the loosely bound proton.
Two-particle intensity correlation between the proton ($p$) and the Omega-baryon ($Ω$) in high-energy heavy ion collisions is studied to unravel the possible spin-2 $pΩ$ dibaryon recently suggested by lattice QCD simulations. The ratio of correlation functions between small and large collision systems, $C_{\rm SL}(Q)$, is proposed to be a new measure to extract the strong $pΩ$ interaction without much contamination from the Coulomb attraction. Relevance of this quantity to the experimental observables in heavy-ion collisions is also discussed.
Short-range correlations (SRC) in asymmetric nuclei with an unusual neutron-to-proton ratio can be studied with quasi-free two-nucleon knockout processes following the collision between accelerated ions and a proton target. We derive an approximate factorized cross section for those SRC-driven $p(A,p^{\prime} N_1 N_2)$ reactions. Our reaction model hinges on the factorization properties of SRC-driven $A(e, e^\prime N_1 N_2)$ reactions for which strong indications are found in theory-experiment comparisons. In order to put our model to the test we compare its predictions with results of $^{12}\…
We show that the polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process is ideal to probe the pretzelosity distribution ($h_{1T}^\perp$), which is one of the new transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions of the nucleon. We present predictions of the $\cos(2ϕ+ ϕ_a - ϕ_b)$ asymmetry in the transversely polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process at PAX kinematics and find that the results are significantly larger compared with those of the $\sin(3ϕ_h - ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process at HERMES, COMPASS, and JLab kinematics. We conclude that the $\cos(2ϕ+…
The Omega-bar/Omega ratio originating from string decays is predicted to be larger than unity in proton-proton interaction at SPS energies. The anti-omega dominance increases with decreasing beam energy. This surprising behavior is caused by the combinatorics of quark-antiquark production in small and low-mass strings. Since this behavior is not found in a statistical description of hadron production in proton-proton collisions, it may serve as a key observable to probe the hadronization mechanism in such collisions.
A comparison between full few-body Faddeev/Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas (Faddeev/AGS) and continuum-discretized coupled channels (CDCC) calculations is made for the resonant and nonresonant breakup of $^{11}$Be on proton target at 63.7 MeV/u incident energy. A simplified two-body model is used for $^{11}$Be which involves an inert $^{10}$Be(0$^+$) core and a valence neutron. The sensitivity of the calculated observables to the nucleon-nucleon potential dynamical input is analysed. We show that with the present NN and N-core dynamics the results remain a puzzle for the few-body problem of scattering…
Intrinsic fluctuations of the proton saturation momentum generate asymmetric rapidity distributions on an event-by-event basis. We argue that the asymmetric component, $\left<a_1^2\right>$, of the orthogonal polynomial decomposition of the two-particle rapidity correlation function is a sensitive probe to this distribution of fluctuations. We present a simple model connecting the experimentally measured $\left<a_1^2\right>$ to the variance, $σ$, of the distribution of the logarithm of the proton saturation scale. We find that $σ\approx 0. 5-1$ describes the asymmetric component of the rapidity…
Photon from neutron-proton bremsstrahlung in p+Pb reactions is examined as a potential probe of the neutron-skin thickness in different centralities and at different proton incident energies. It is shown that the best choice of reaction environment is about 140MeV for the incident proton and the 95\%-100\% centrality for the reaction system since the incident proton mainly interacts with neutrons inside the skin of the target and thus leads to different photon production to maximal extent. Moreover, considering two main uncertainties from both photon production probability and nucleon-nucleon …

We document that p(gamma,e+e-)p measurements will yield new, important information about the off-shell time-like nucleon form factors, especially in the phi meson region (q^2 = M^2_{phi}) governing the phi N couplings g^{V,T}_{ϕN N}. Calculations for p(gamma,e+e-)p, utilizing vector meson dominance, predict measurable phi enhancements at high |t| compared to the expected phi background production from pi, eta and Pomeron exchange. The phi form factor contribution generates a novel experimental signature for OZI violation and the proton strangeness content. The phi N couplings are determined in…

I describe a possible scenario for the origin of proton mass in terms of Cheshire Cat, half-skyrmions, topology change and interplay between hidden chiral-scale symmetry and induced local symmetry. This differs from the standard constituent-quark scenario. As the baryonic matter density is increased toward the vector manifestation (VM) fixed-point at which the $ρ$ mass is to vanish, the effective in-medium mass ratio $m^*_ρ/m^*_N$ is to tend to zero proportionally to $g^*_ρ$ where $g^*_ρ$ is the in-medium hidden gauge coupling constant. I develop the thesis that the intricacy involved in the m…
In this work, we identify a unique and novel feature of central density depletion in both proton and neutron named as doubly bubble nuclei in 50$\leq$Z(N)$\leq$82 region. The major role of 2d-3s single-particle (s.p.) states in the existence of halo and bubble nuclei is probed. The occupancy in s.p. state 3s$_{1/2}$ leads to the extended neutron density distribution or halo while the unoccupancy results in the central density depletion. By employing the Relativistic Mean-Field (RMF) approach along with NL3* parameter, the separation energies, single-particle energies, pairing energies, proton,…

This work addresses the question of precisely what features of few body models of halo nuclei are probed by elastic scattering on protons at high centre-of-mass energies. Our treatment is based on a multiple scattering expansion of the proton-projectile transition amplitude in a form which is well adapted to the weakly bound cluster picture of halo nuclei. In the specific case of $^{11}$Li scattering from protons at 800 MeV/u we show that because core recoil effects are significant, scattering crosssections can not, in general, be deduced from knowledge of the total matter density alone. We ad…
We compute the cross section for photons emitted from sea quarks in proton-nucleus collisions at collider energies. The computation is performed within the dilute-dense kinematics of the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory. Albeit the result obtained is formally at next-to-leading order in the CGC power counting, it provides the dominant contribution for central rapidities. We observe that the inclusive photon cross section is proportional to all-twist Wilson line correlators in the nucleus. These correlators also appear in quark-pair production; unlike the latter, photon produ…
Proton and neutron densities have been obtained for the even-even isotopes of Sn from $^{100}$Sn to $^{176}$Sn using a Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov model with a Skyrme interaction. The matter densities so defined have been used with realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions in a folding model to specify optical potentials for the elastic scattering of protons with energies in the range 40 to 200 MeV. Those potentials have been used to make predictions of the differential cross sections and spin observables for proton scattering. As the target mass increases, the emergence of the neutron skin in the Sn…
Recently, a measurement of the pressure distribution experienced by the quarks inside the proton has found a strong repulsive (positive) pressure at distances up to 0.6 femtometers from its center and a (negative) confining pressure at larger distances. In this paper we show that this measurement puts significant constraints on modified theories of gravity in which the strength of the gravitational interaction on microscopic scales is enhanced with respect to general relativity. We consider the particular case of Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity, showing that strong limits on $κ$, the on…
Higher moments of event-by-event net-proton multiplicity distributions are applied to search for the QCD critical point in the heavy ion collisions. It has been demonstrated that higher moments as well as moment products are sensitive to the correlation length and directly connected to the thermodynamic susceptibilities computed in the Lattice QCD and Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model. In this paper, we will present measurements for kurtosis ($κ$), skewness ($S$) and variance ($σ^{2}$) of net-proton multiplicity distributions at the mid-rapidity ($|y|<0.5$) and $0.4<p_{T}<0.8$ GeV/$c$ for Au+Au…
[Background:] The band structure of the negative-parity states of $^{24}$Mg has not yet been clarified. The $K^π=0^-$, $K^π=1^-$, and $K^π=3^-$ bands have been suggested, but the assignments have been inconsistent between experiments and theories. [Purpose:] Negative-parity states of $^{24}$Mg are investigated by microscopic structure and reaction calculations via proton and alpha inelastic scattering to clarify the band assignment for the observed negative-parity spectra. [Method:] The structure of $^{24}$Mg was calculated using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics~(AMD). Proton and alpha i…
I investigate the elastic electron scattering off nuclei far from the stability line. The effects of the neutron and proton skins and halos on the differential cross sections are explored. Examples are given for the charge distribution in Sn isotopes and its relation to the neutron skin. The neutron halo in $^{11}$Li and the proton halo in $^{8}$B are also investigated. Particular interest is paid to the inverse scattering problem and its dependence on the experimental precision. These studies are of particular interest for the upcoming electron ion colliders at the GSI and RIKEN facilities.
We propose to use antiprotons to investigate the sizes of stable and neutron-rich exotic nuclei by measurements of the $\pbar A$ absorption cross section along isotopic chains in inverse kinematics. The expected effects are studied theoretically in a microscopic model. The $\pbar U$ optical potentials are obtained by folding free space $\pbar N$ scattering amplitudes with HFB ground state densities and solving the scattering equations by direct integration. The mass dependence of absorption cross sections is found to follow closely the nuclear root-mean-square radii. The total absorption cross…
We calculate and compare the differential cross sections for forward $Z^0$-boson production at small transverse momentum, in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions, using both the collinear and dilute-dense factorization frameworks. In both cases, we implement a Sudakov resummation of the large logarithms generated by soft-gluon emissions, which is essential in order to describe the transverse momentum distribution of forward $Z^0$ bosons measured at the Tevatron and the LHC. We further compute the nuclear modification factor in the dilute-dense framework, hoping to single out signals of …
