A theorem of Dorronsoro from the 1980s quantifies the fact that real-valued Sobolev functions on Euclidean spaces can be approximated by affine functions almost everywhere, and at all sufficiently small scales. We prove a variant of Dorronsoro's theorem in Heisenberg groups: functions in horizontal Sobolev spaces can be approximated by affine functions which are independent of the last variable.
As an application, we deduce new proofs for certain vertical vs. horizontal Poincaré inequalities for real-valued functions on the Heisenberg group, originally due to Austin-Naor-Tessera and Lafforgue-Naor.
A theorem of Dorronsoro from 1985 quantifies the fact that a Lipschitz function $f \colon \mathbb{R}^{n} \to \mathbb{R}$ can be approximated by affine functions almost everywhere, and at sufficiently small scales. This paper contains a new, purely geometric, proof of Dorronsoro's theorem. In brief, it reduces the problem in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ to a problem in $\mathbb{R}^{n - 1}$ via integralgeometric considerations. For the case $n = 1$, a short geometric proof already exists in the literature. A similar proof technique applies to parabolic Lipschitz functions $f \colon \mathbb{R}^{n - 1} \times…
We show that the $β$--numbers of intrinsic Lipschitz graphs of Heisenberg groups $\mathbb{H}_n$ are locally Carleson integrable when $n \geq 2$. Our technique relies on a recent Dorronsoro inequality \cite{FO} as well as a novel slicing argument. A key ingredient in our proof is a Euclidean inequality bounding the $β$--number of a function on a cube of $\mathbb{R}^n$ using the $β$--number of the restriction of the function to codimension--1 slices of the cube.
This paper studies the Hausdorff dimension of the intersection of isotropic projections of subsets of $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$, as well as dimension of intersections of sets with isotropic planes. It is shown that if $A$ and $B$ are Borel subsets of $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$ of dimension greater than m, then for a positive measure set of isotropic m-planes, the intersection of the images of $A$ and $B$ under orthogonal projections onto these planes have positive Hausdorff $m$-measure. In addition, if $A$ is a measurable set of Hausdorff dimension greater than $m$, then there is a set $B\subset\mathbb{R}^{2n}…
We formulate and prove an analogue of Beurling's theorem for the Fourier transform on the Heisenberg group. As a consequence we deduce Hardy and Cowling-Price theorems.
Although convolution on Euclidean space and the Heisenberg group satisfy the same $L^p$ bounds with the same optimal constants, the former has maximizers while the latter does not. However, as work of Christ has shown, it is still possible to characterize near-maximizers. Specifically, any near-maximizing triple of the trilinear form for convolution on the Heisenberg group must be close to a particular type of triple of ordered Gaussians after adjusting by symmetry. In this paper, we use the expansion method to prove a quantitative version of this characterization.
We prove an analogue of Chernoff's theorem for the sublaplacian on the Heisenberg group and use it prove a version of Ingham's theorem for the Fourier transform on the same group.
We prove an analogue of Chernoff's theorem for the Laplacian $ Δ_{\mathbb{H}} $ on the Heisenberg group $ \mathbb{H}^n.$ As an application, we prove Ingham type theorems for the group Fourier transform on $ \mathbb{H}^n $ and also for the spectral projections associated to the sublaplacian.
We prove an exact analogue of Ingham's uncertainty principle for the group Fourier transform on the Heisenberg group. This is accomplished by explicitly constructing compactly supported functions on the Heisenberg group whose operator-valued Fourier transforms have suitable Ingham type decay and proving an analogue of Chernoff's theorem for the family of special Hermite operators.
In this paper, we give explicit expressions of differential-difference operators appeared in the hypothesis of the general Fourier multiplier theorem associated to the Heisenberg groups proved by Mauceri and De Micheal for one dimension and C. Lin for higher dimension. We also give a much shorter proof of the above-mentioned theorem. Then we obtain a sharp weighted estimate for Fourier multipliers on the Heisenberg groups.
In this paper, we establish the existence of extremals for two kinds of Stein-Weiss inequalities on the Heisenberg group. More precisely, we prove the existence of extremals for the Stein-Weiss inequalities with full weights in Theorem 1.1 and the Stein-Weiss inequalities with horizontal weights in Theorem 1.4. Different from the proof of the analogous inequality in Euclidean spaces given by Lieb [26] using Riesz rearrangement inequality which is not available on the Heisenberg group, we employ the concentration compactness principle to obtain the existence of the maximizers on the Heisenberg …
We provide a study of the Riesz transforms on stratified nilpotent Lie groups, and obtain a certain version of the pointwise lower bound of the Riesz transform kernel. Then we establish the characterisation of the BMO space on stratified nilpotent Lie groups via the boundedness of the commutator of the Riesz transforms and the BMO function. This extends the well-known Coifman, Rochberg, Weiss theorem from Euclidean space to the setting of stratified nilpotent Lie groups. In particular, these results apply to the well-known example of the Heisenberg group. As an application, we also study the c…
