Analyses of heavy mesons and baryons hadronic charmless decays using the flavor SU(3) symemtry can be formulated in two different forms. One is to construct the SU(3) irreducible representation amplitude (IRA) by decomposing effective Hamiltonian, and the other is to draw the topological diagrams (TDA). In the flavor SU(3) limit, we study various $B/D\to PP,VP,VV$, $B_c\to DP/DV$ decays, and two-body nonleptonic decays of beauty/charm baryons, and demonstrate that when all terms are included these two ways of analyzing the decay amplitudes are completely equivalent. Furthermore we clarify some confusions in drawing topological diagrams using different ways of describing beauty/charm baryons.
The grand unification of flavor(GUF) in extra dimensions is discussed. After reviewing the old GUF, I present a GUF model SU(7) in 5D with the recently popular field theoretic orbifold compactification.
We systematically analyze the correlations between the various leptonic and hadronic flavor violating processes arising in SUSY Grand Unified Theories. Using the GUT-symmetric relations between the soft SUSY breaking parameters, we assess the impact of hadronic and leptonic flavor observables on the SUSY sources of flavor violation.
We study the evolution of fermion mass matrices considering the hypothesis of approximate flavor symmetries (AFS) in the Standard Model and a two-Higgs-doublet model. We find that the hierarchical structure is not significantly altered by the running, hence the assumption of AFS is entirely compatible with a grand unification scenario.
Minimal Flavor Violation is an attractive approach to suppress unacceptably large flavor changing neutral currents from beyond the standard model physics at the TeV scale. It can be used in theories with low energy supersymmetry, multi Higgs doublet theories and other extensions of the minimal standard model. We show how minimal flavor violation can be implemented in Grand Unified theories.
We present an SU(12) unification model with three light chiral families, avoiding any external flavor symmetries. The hierarchy of quark and lepton masses and mixings is explained by higher dimensional Yukawa interactions involving Higgs bosons that contain SU(5) singlet fields with VEVs about 50 times smaller than the SU(12) unification scale. The presented model has been analyzed in detail and found to be in very good agreement with the observed quark and lepton masses and mixings.
There are experimental indications of large flavor mixing between $ν_{μ}$ and $ν_τ$. In the unification models, in which the massless sector includes extra particles beyond the standard model, there possibly appear the mixings between quarks (leptons) and the extra particles. When large mixings occur, lepton flavor mixings can be quite different from quark flavor mixings. By taking the string inspired $SU(6) \times SU(2)_R$ model with global flavor symmetries, we obtain the neutrino flavor mixing $\sin θ_{23} \simeq λ= \sin θ_C$ around the unification scale. It can be expected that due to larg…
An origin of flavor mixings in quark and lepton sectors is still a mystery, and a structure of the flavor mixings in lepton sector seems completely different from that of quark sector. In this letter, we point out that the flavor mixing angles in quark and lepton sectors could be unified at a high energy scale, when neutrinos are degenerate. It means that a minimal flavor violation at a high energy scale can induce a rich variety of flavor mixings in quark and lepton sectors at a low energy scale through quantum corrections.
We investigate the options for imposing flavor symmetries on a minimal renormalizable non-supersymmetric $\mathrm{SU}(5)$ grand unified theory, without introducing additional flavor-related fields. Such symmetries reduce the number of free parameters in the model and therefore lead to more predictive models. We consider the Yukawa sector of the Lagrangian, and search for all possible flavor symmetries. As a result, we find 25 distinct realistic flavor symmetry cases, with $\mathbb{Z}_2$, $\mathbb{Z}_3$, $\mathbb{Z}_4$, and $\mathrm{U}(1)$ symmetries, and no non-Abelian cases.
The recent measurements of the solar neutrino mixing angle theta_{sol} and the Cabibbo mixing angle theta_C reveal a surprising relation, theta_{sol}+theta_C ~ pi/4. Interpreting this empirical relation as a support of the quark-lepton unification, we find that the PMNS mixing matrix can be decomposed into a CKM-like matrix and maximal mixing matrices, which can give profound implications on the quark-lepton unification. We explore a possibility to probe the implication of quark-lepton unification by considering the relative sizes of branching ratios for the lepton flavor violating radiative d…
In the family grand unification models (fGUTs), we propose that gauge U(1)'s beyond the minimal GUT gauge group are family gauge symmetries. For the symmetry $L_μ-L_τ$, i.e. $Q_{2}-Q_{3}$ in our case, to be useful for the LHC anomaly, we discuss an SU(9) fGUT and also present an example in Georgi's SU(11) fGUT.
We consider the renormalization group approach to the SUSY flavor problem in the supersymmetric SU(5) model with one extra dimension. In higher dimensional SUSY gauge theories, it has been recently shown that power corrections due to the Kaluza-Klein states of gauge fields run the soft masses generated at the orbifold fixed point to flavor conserving values in the infra-red limit. In models with GUT breaking at the brane where the GUT scale can be larger than the compactification scale, we show that the addition of a bulk Higgs multiplet, which is necessary for the successful unification, is c…
The unification of the quark and charged lepton flavor structures is revisited using the tools of Minimal Flavor Violation (MFV). Under that framework, we first identify a unique point in parameter space where flavor universality is maximally violated. Though from the point of view of the usual polynomial MFV expansions, standing close to that point would require unacceptable fine-tunings, it is automatically attained with infinite geometric MFV series. Remarkably, this peculiar point is precisely where the charged lepton Yukawa coupling can be expressed naturally in terms of those of the quar…
An explicit SUSY SU(12) unification model with three light chiral families is presented which avoids any external flavor symmetries. The hierarchy of quark and lepton masses and mixings is explained by higher dimensional Yukawa interactions involving Higgs bosons containing SU(5) singlet fields with VEVs appearing at or below the SUSY GUT scale of 2 \times 10^{16} GeV, approximately 50 times smaller than the SU(12) unification scale. The model has been found to be in good agreement with the observed quark and lepton masses and mixings, with nearly all prefactors of O(1) in the four Dirac and o…
Grand unified theories with fermions transforming as irreducible representations of a discrete nonabelian flavor symmetry can lead to realistic fermion masses, without requiring very small fundamental parameters. We construct a specific example of a supersymmetric GUT based on the flavor symmetry $Δ(75)$ --- a subgroup of $SU(3)$ --- which can explain the observed quark and lepton masses and mixing angles. The model predicts $\tanβ\simeq 2-5$ and gives a $τ$ neutrino mass $m_ν\simeq M_p/G_F M_{GUT}^2 = 10$ eV, with other neutrino masses much lighter. Combined constraints of light quark masses …
We show how an intermediate gauge symmetry breaking scale can be a source of lepton flavor violation and EDM of electron and neutron in SUSY GUTs. The Universal soft supersymmetry breaking operators can be introduced at the GUT scale or above.
Conventionally we collect electron and up/down-quarks (u,d)+(nu_e,e) to form unified generations, and collect the left-handed and the right-handed fermions of the same flavors (nu_e,e)+e^c. We can alternatively have a contorted multiplet, made by pairing different quarks and leptons, like (u,d)+(nu_mu,mu) or (u,d)+(nu_tau,tau), and/or between different left and right handed fermions to (nu_e,e)+mu^c, etc. These can suppress proton decay, due to its high flavor dependence, while having the correct fermion masses.
This study indicates that in E6 grand unified theories (GUTs), once a hierarchical structure of up-quark-type Yukawa couplings is given as a basic structure of flavor, larger lepton mixings than the quark mixings and milder down-quark-type (and charged-lepton-type) mass hierarchies than up-quark-type mass hierarchy can generically be obtained under a few natural assumptions. The basic flavor structure is compatible with non-Abelian horizontal symmetry, which can solve the SUSY flavor problem. It is shown that in solving the SUSY flavor problem, the E6 structure, which realizes bi-large neutrin…
I review a recent work on gauged flavor with left-right symmetry, where all masses and all Yukawa couplings owe their origin to spontaneous flavor symmetry breaking. This is suggested as a precursor to a full understanding of flavor of quarks and leptons. An essential ingredient of this approach is the existence of heavy vector-like fermions, which is the home of flavor, which subsequently gets transmitted to the familiar quarks and leptons via the seesaw mechanism. I then discuss implications of extending this idea to include supersymmetry and finally speculate on a possible grand unified mod…
We study quark and lepton masses and mixings in a double covering of modular $A_4$ flavor symmetry in which we search for common solution of a single modulus $τ$, applying chi-square numerical analysis under the as minimum framework as possible. We have found the common region of $τ$ within $5σ$ interval that is narrow in case of normal hierarchy, but not found in case of inverted hierarchy.
We present a supersymmetric SU(5) x U(1)_H model, free from gauge anomalies, where the Abelian factor U(1)_H, introduced to account for the hierarchy of fermion masses and mixings, is broken by the same adjoint representations of SU(5) that also break the GUT symmetry. The model predicts approximate, but never exact, bottom-tau Yukawa unification. The deviations are related to group theoretical coefficients and can naturally be at the level of 10%-20%.
Discrete flavor symmetry is explored for an intrinsic property of mass matrix forms of quarks and leptons. In this paper we investigate the S3 permutation symmetry and derive the general forms of mass matrices in various types of S3 theories. We also exhibit particular realizations of previous ansatze of mass matrices, which have often been applied in the literature to the standard model Yukawa sector. Discrete flavor symmetry is also advantageous for vanishing matrix elements being dynamically generated in the vacuum of scalar potential. This is due to the fact that group operations are discr…
We discuss CP violation in the five dimensional $SU(3) \otimes SU(3)_{\rm color}$ gauge-Higgs unification scenario in which the fifth dimension is compactified on an orbifold $S^1 /Z_2$. It is shown that CP-violating phase appears even in the two generation case in contrast with the fact that at least three generations are required to break CP symmetry in the Standard Model. As our prediction, we obtain the phenomenological constraint on the compactification scale by comparing the typical CP-violating observables, namely $\varepsilon_K$ parameter and the mass difference of two neutral $K$ meso…
We study phenomenological predictions in the scenario with the quasi-degenerate relation among neutrino Dirac masses, m_D1 simeq m_D2 < m_D3, assuming the bi-maximal mixing at the grand unification scale in supersymmetric standard models with right-handed neutrinos. A sufficient lepton number asymmetry can be produced for successful leptogenesis. The lepton flavor violating process mu to e gamma can be enhanced due to the Majorana phase, so that it can be detectable at forthcoming experiments. The processes tau to e gamma and tau to mu gamma are suppressed because of the structure of neutrino …
We present a unified picture of flavor and electroweak symmetry breaking based on a nonlinear sigma model spontaneously broken at the TeV scale. Flavor and Higgs bosons arise as pseudo-Goldstone modes. Explicit collective symmetry breaking yields stable vacuum expectation values and masses protected at one loop by the little-Higgs mechanism. The coupling to the fermions generates well-definite mass textures--according to a U(1) global flavor symmetry--that correctly reproduce the mass hierarchies and mixings of quarks and leptons. The model is more constrained than usual little-Higgs models be…
Minimal Flavour Violation in its strong or weak versions, based on $U(3)^3$ and $U(2)^3$ respectively, allows suitable extensions of the Standard Model at the TeV scale to comply with current flavour constraints in the quark sector. Here we discuss considerations analogous to MFV in the context of $SU(5)$-unification, showing the new effects/constraints that arise both in the quark as in the lepton sector, where quantitative statements can be made controlled by the CKM matrix elements. The case of supersymmetry is examined in detail as a particularly motivated example. Third generation slepton…
We present a new constraint on a lepton mixing matrix $V$ from lepton-flavor violating (LFV) processes in supersymmetric standard models with massive neutrinos. Here, we assume Yukawa-coupling unification $f_{ν3}\simeq f_{\rm top}$, in which $τ$-neutrino Yukawa coupling $f_{ν3}$ is unified into top-quark Yukawa coupling $f_{\rm top}$ at the unification scale $M_*\simeq 3\times 10^{16}$ GeV. We show that the present experimental bound on $μ\to e γ$ decay already gives a stringent limit on the lepton mixing (typically $V_{13}<0.02$ for $V_{23}=1/\sqrt{2}$). Therefore, many existing neutrino-mass…
The combination of flavor symmetries with grand unification is considered: GUT $ \times$ flavor . To accommodate three generations the flavor group SO(3) is used. All fermions transform as 3-vectors under this group. The Yukawa couplings are obtained from vacuum expectation values of flavon fields. For the flavon fields (singlets with respect to the GUT group) and the Higgs fields (singlets with respect to the generation group) a simple form for the effective potentials is postulated. It automatically leads to spontaneous symmetry breaking for these scalar fields. Discrete S4 transformations r…
In a large class of supersymmetric SO(10) and left-right models, requiring that the effective theory below the scale of $SU(2)_R$ breaking be the MSSM implies partial Yukawa unification with $Y_u=Y_d$ and $Y_e=Y_{ν^D}$. The same result also emerges in models with a horizontal $SU(3)_H$ symmetry. As a result, at the tree level, these models lead to vanishing quark mixing angles. We show that the correct mixing pattern can be generated in these models at the loop level from the flavor structure associated with the supersymmetry breaking terms. We generalize the constraints on supersymmetric para…
Supersymmetric gauge models with local horizontal symmetries are known to generate large flavor changing neutral current effects induced by supersymmetry breaking D-terms. We show how the presence of a U(1) gauge symmetry solves this problem. We then construct a realistic gauge model with SU(2)_H x U(1)_H as the local horizontal symmetry and suggest that the U(1)_H factor may be identified with the anomalous U(1) induced by string compactification. This model explains the observed hierarchies among the quark masses and mixing angles, accommodates naturally the solar and atmospheric neutrino da…
In the context of Supersymmetric Grand Unified theories with soft breaking terms arising at the Planck scale, it is generally possible to link flavor changing neutral current and CP violating processes occurring in the leptonic and hadronic sectors. We study the correlation between flavor changing squark and slepton mass insertions in models à la SU(5). We show that the constraints coming from lepton flavor violation exhibit a strong impact on CP-violating B decays.
We explain the imbalance of the flavor mixing angles between the quark and the lepton sectors in the context of the SU(5) GUT with the see-saw mechanism. The quark masses and the CKM matrix elements are obtained by using, respectively, the Fritzsch and Branco - Silva-Marcos form for the up- and down-quark Yukawa matrices (y^u and y^d) at the GUT scale. The charged-lepton Yukawa matrix (y^e) is the transpose of y^d, modified by the Georgi-Jarlskog factor. We show that the neutrino masses and mixing angles suggested by the recent solar and atmospheric neutrinos are then obtained from a simple te…
Extra dimension provides an attractive way to break symmetry by boundary conditions which can be useful to construct a natural grand unified theory avoiding the doublet-triplet splitting problem and the proton decay problem. It can provide also an elegant mechanism to generate hierarchical 4-dimensional Yukawa couplings, involving the quasi-localization of matter fields in extra dimension. We discuss the Kaluza-Klein threshold corrections to low energy gauge couplings in generic 5-dimensional orbifold grand unified theories with quasi-localized matter fields, and apply the results to some clas…
It is shown that the stratified or "doubly lopsided" mass matrix structure that is known to reproduce well the qualitative features of the quark and lepton masses and mixings can arise quite naturally in the context of grand unification based on the groups SU(N) with N > 5. An SU(8) example is constructed with the minimal anomaly-free, three-family set of fermions, in which a realistic flavor structure results without flavor symmetry.
We show that one can explain the neutral and charged anomalies in B-meson decays in the minimal theory for quark-lepton unification. The implications for flavor violating processes are discussed in detail. Strikingly, experimental observations suggest that the unification of quarks and leptons could be realized below the ${\cal O}(10^2)$ TeV scale.
We discuss flavor mixing and resultant flavor changing neutral current processes in the SU(3) \otimes SU(3)_\text{color} gauge-Higgs unification scenario. To achieve flavor violation is a challenging issue in the scenario, since the Yukawa couplings are originally higher dimensional gauge interactions. We argue that the presence of Z_2-odd bulk masses of fermions plays a crucial role as the new source of flavor violation. Although introducing brane-localized mass terms in addition to the bulk masses is necessary to realize flavor mixing, if the bulk masses were universal among generations, the…
The two dominant processes of lepton flavor violation, mu to 3e and mu to e conversion in atomic nuclei caused by neutral KK gauge boson exchanges at tree level, are studied in the context of five dimensional gauge-Higgs unification scenario. The key point of the flavor violation is a fact that the bulk masses and the brane ones cannot be simultaneously diagonalized. We estimate the branching ratio of each processes and obtain the lower bound of compactification scale around weak scale from the current experimental data. We discuss the reasons why the final result is not so severe although the…
In a recent paper, we pointed out that mixing of the light neutrinos with heavy gauge singlet states could reconcile the Z-pole data from e+e- colliders and the nu_mu (anti-nu_mu) scattering data from the NuTeV experiment at Fermilab. We further noted that the mixing angle required to fit the data is much larger than what would be expected from the conventional seesaw mechanism. In this paper, we show how such mixings can be arranged by a judicious choice of the neutrino mass texture. We also argue that by invoking the unification of the Dirac mass matrix for the up-type quarks and the neutrin…
The problem of understanding quark mass and mixing hierarchies has been an outstanding problem of particle physics for a long time. The discovery of neutrino masses in the past decade, exhibiting mixing and mass patterns so very different from the quark sector has added an extra dimension to this puzzle. This is specially difficult to understand within the framework of conventional grand unified theories which are supposed to unify the quarks and leptons at short distance scales. In the paper, I discuss a recent proposal by Dutta, Mimura and this author that appears to provide a promising way …
We present a simple supersymmetric model of split families consistent with flavor limits that preserves the successful prediction of gauge coupling unification and naturally accounts for the Higgs mass. The model provides an intricate connection between the Standard Model flavor hierarchy, supersymmetric flavor problem, unification and the Higgs mass. In particular unification favors a naturally large Higgs mass from D-term corrections to the quartic couplings in the Higgs potential. The unification scale is lowered with a stable proton that can account for the success of b-tau Yukawa coupling…
We investigate gauge coupling unification at 2-loops for theories with 5 extra vectorlike SU(5) fundamentals added to the MSSM. This is a borderline case where unification is only predicted in certain regions of parameter space. We establish a lower bound on the scale for the masses of the extra flavors, as a function of the sparticle masses. Models far outside of the bound do not predict unification at all (but may be compatible with unification), and models outside but near the boundary cannot reliably claim to predict it with an accuracy comparable to the MSSM prediction. Models inside the …
In an SU(9) model of gauged family unification, we propose an explanation for why angles observed in the lepton flavor ({\it PMNS}) mixing matrix are significantly larger than those measured for any analagous quark flavor ({\it KM}) mixing angle. It is directly related to a see-saw mechanism that we assume to be responsible for the generation of neutrino masses. Our model is more constrained and therefore even more predictive than a model previously proposed by Barr.
We show that a special type of colliding 7-brane configuration of a codimension-two singularity realizes not only a six-dimensional spectrum with exactly the same quantum numbers as that of the three-generation E7/(SU(5) x U(1)^3) coset family unification model, but also the three sets of nonchiral singlet pairs with precisely the correct U(1) charges needed for explaining the Yukawa hierarchies and large lepton-flavor mixings in a well-known seesaw scenario.
We construct a family-unified model on a Z_2xZ_2 orbifold in five dimensions. The model is based on a supersymmetric SU(7) gauge theory. The gauge group is broken by orbifold boundary conditions to a product of grand unified SU(5) and SU(2)xU(1) flavor symmetry. The structure of Yukawa matrices is generated by an interplay between spontaneous breaking of flavor symmetry and geometric factors arising due to field localization in the extra dimension.
We discuss flavor mixing and resulting Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) in a five dimensional SU(3)_color \otimes SU(3) \otimes U'(1) gauge-Higgs unification. Flavor mixing is realized by the fact that the bulk and brane localized mass terms are not diagonalized simultaneously. As the concrete FCNC processes, we calculate the rate of B^0_d-\bar B^0_d mixing and B^0_s-\bar B^0_s mixing due to the exchange of non-zero Kaluza-Klein gluons at the tree level. We obtain a lower bound on the compactification scale of order O(TeV) by comparing our prediction on the mass difference of neutral B m…
In combination with supersymmetry, flavor symmetry may relate quarks with leptons, even in the absence of a grand-unification group. We propose an SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1) model where both supersymmetry and the assumed A4 flavor symmetries are softly broken, reproducing well the observed fermion mass hierarchies and predicting: (i) a relation between down-type quarks and charged lepton masses, and (ii) a correlation between the Cabibbo angle in the quark sector, and the reactor angle characterizing CP violation in neutrino oscillations.
The gauge interactions of any supersymmetric extension of the standard model involve new flavor mixing matrices. The assumptions involved in the construction of minimal supersymmetric models, both $SU(3) \times SU(2) \times U(1)$ and grand unified theories, force a large degree of triviality on these matrices. However, the requirement of realistic quark and lepton masses in supersymmetric grand unified theories forces these matrices to be non-trivial. This leads to important new dominant contributions to the neutron electric dipole moment and to the decay mode $p \to K^oμ^+$, and suggests that…
It is shown that in supersymmetric SU(N) models with N>5 the so-called doubly lopsided mass matrix structure can emerge in a natural way. The non-trivial flavor structure is entirely accounted for by the SU(N) gauge symmetry and supersymmetry, without any flavor symmetry. The hierarchy among the families results directly from a hierarchy of scales in the chain of breaking from SU(N)to the Standard Model group. A simple SU(7) example is presented.
The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) mixing matrix and flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNC's) in the quark sector are examined in the GUT inspired $SO(5) \times U(1) \times SU(3)$ gauge-Higgs unification in which the 4D Higgs boson is identified with the Aharonov-Bohm phase in the fifth dimension. Gauge invariant brane interactions play an important role for the flavor mixing in the charged-current weak interactions. The CKM matrix is reproduced except that the up quark mass needs to be larger than the observed one. FCNC's are naturally suppressed as a consequence of the gauge invariance, wi…
Flavor symmetry plays a crucial role in the standard model of particle physics but its origin is still unknown. We develop a new method (based on outer automorphisms of the Narain space group) to determine flavor symmetries within compactified string theory. A picture emerges where traditional (discrete) flavor symmetries, CP-like symmetries and modular symmetries (like T-duality) of string theory combine to unified flavor symmetries. The groups depend on the geometry of compact space and the geographical location of fields in the extra dimensions. We observe a phenomenon of "local flavor grou…
The light-cone Fock representation encodes the bound-state quark and gluon properties of hadrons, including their helicity and flavor correlations, in terms of universal process-independent and frame-independent wavefunctions. It also provides a physical factorization scheme for separating hard and soft contributions in both exclusive and inclusive hard processes. A new type of jet production reaction, ''self-resolving diffractive interactions'' can provide direct information on the light-cone wavefunctions of hadrons in terms of their QCD degrees of freedom as well as the composition of nucle…
In orbifold models, gauge, Higgs and the matter fields can be unified in one multiplet from the compactification of higher dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory. We study how three families of chiral fermions can be unified in the gauge multiplet. The bulk gauge interaction includes the Yukawa interactions to generate masses for quarks and leptons after the electroweak symmetry is broken. The bulk Yukawa interaction has global or gauged flavor symmetry originating from the R symmetry or bulk gauge symmetry, and the Yukawa structure is restricted. When the global and gauged flavor symmetries …
We propose an $A_4$ extension of the Standard Model with a Lepton Quarticity symmetry correlating dark matter stability with the Dirac nature of neutrinos. The flavor symmetry predicts (i) a generalized bottom-tau mass relation involving all families, (ii) small neutrino masses are induced a la seesaw, (iii) CP must be significantly violated in neutrino oscillations, (iv) the atmospheric angle $θ_{23}$ lies in the second octant, and (v) only the normal neutrino mass ordering is realized.
We analyze the neutrino mass spectrum and discuss the extra-dimensional interpretation of a three-site Pati-Salam model which i) unifies all families of quark and leptons, ii) provides a natural description of the Standard Model Yukawa couplings, iii) could account for the recent $B$-physics anomalies. The key feature of the model is a breaking of the Pati-Salam and electroweak gauge symmetries localized on opposite sites, communicated to the other sites in an attenuated manner via nearest-neighbor interactions. We show that in this context gauge-singlet fermions localized on each site, receiv…
To explain quark and lepton masses and mixing angles, one has to extend the standard model, and the usual practice is to put the quarks and leptons into irreducible representations of discrete groups. We argue that discrete flavor symmetries (and their concomitant problems) can be avoided if we extend the gauge group. In the framework of SU(12) we give explicit examples of models having varying degrees of predictability obtained by scanning over groups and representations and identifying cases with operators contributing to mass and mixing matrices that need little fine- tuning of prefactors. …
We discuss flavor mixing and resulting Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) in the SU(3) \otimes SU(3)_color gauge-Higgs unification. As the FCNC process we calculate the rate of D^0-\bar D^0 mixing due to the exchange of non-zero Kaluza-Klein gluons at the tree level. Flavor mixing is argued to be realized by the fact that the bulk mass term and brane localized mass term is not diagonalized simultaneously unless bulk masses are degenerate. It is shown that automatic suppression mechanism is operative for the FCNC processes of light quarks. We therefore obtain a lower bound on the compactifi…
Gauge-Higgs unification is the fascinating scenario solving the hierarchy problem without supersymmetry. In this scenario, the Standard Model (SM) Higgs doublet is identified with extra component of the gauge field in higher dimensions and its mass becomes finite and stable under quantum corrections due to the higher dimensional gauge symmetry. On the other hand, Yukawa coupling is provided by the gauge coupling, which seems to mean that the flavor mixing and CP violation do not arise at it stands. In this talk, we discuss that the flavor mixing is originated from simultaneously non-diagonaliz…
