We theoretically investigate the current-current correlation of the two-dimensional (2D) parabolic Dirac system in hexogonal lattice. The analytical expressions of the random phase approximation (RPA) susceptibility, Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) Hamiltonian, and the diamagnetic orbital susceptibility in noninteracting case base on the density-density or current-current correlation function are derived and quantitatively analyzed. In noninteracting case, the dynamical polarization with- in RPA and spin transverse susceptibility as well as the RKKY interaction (when close to the half-filling) are related to the the current-current response in the 2D parabolic Dirac system. Both the case of anisotropic dispersion and isotropic dispersion are discussed.
In this paper, we make a comprehensive study of the properties of a gapped Dirac semimetal model, which was originally proposed in the magnetoinfrared spectroscopy measurement of ZeTe$_5$, and includes both the linear and parabolic dispersions in all three directions. We find that, depending on the band inversion parameters, $ζ'$ and $ζ_z'$, the model can support three different phases: the single Dirac point (DP) phase, the double DPs phase and the Dirac ring phase. The three different phases can be distinguished by their low-energy features in the density of states (DOS) and optical conducti…
We investigate the electronic properties of the parabolic Dirac system. In the pres- ence of magnetic field, we discuss the thermodynamical potential and the anomalous diamagnetism due to the presence of Dirac cone. The integer Hall conductivity and the intrinsic Hall conductivity induced by the Berry curvature are also investigated. Considering the disorder-induced self-energy in self-consistent Born approximation, the RKKY interaction, long-range scattering rate and the spectral function are also calculated, which are distinct to that of the clean system (without impurity).
We report on the observation of magneto-oscillations of terahertz radiation induced photocurrent in HgTe/HgCdTe quantum wells (QWs) of different widths, which are characterized by a Dirac-like, inverted and normal parabolic band structure. The photocurrent data are accompanied by measurements of photoresistance (photoconductivity), radiation transmission, as well as magneto-transport. We develop a microscopic model of a cyclotron-resonance assisted photogalvanic effect, which describes main experimental findings. We demonstrate that the quantum oscillations of the photocurrent are caused by th…
In this paper, we give a systematic theoretical study on the Landau levels (LLs) and magneto-optical conductivity Re$(σ_{αα})$ in a gapped Dirac semimetal model with mixed linear and parabolic dispersions under a magnetic field, which was recently proposed by Jiang \textit{et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf125}, 046403 (2020)] to explain the experimental magnetoinfrared spectroscopy in the three-dimensional ZrTe$_5$ crystal. We find that the strong magnetic field can drive the LLs become noninverted and thus the strong topological insulator phase in ZrTe$_5$ turns to be a trivial insulator. In the…
We report on several new basic properties of a parabolic dot in the presence of a magnetic field. The ratio between the potential strength and the Landau level (LL) energy spacing serves as the coupling constant of this problem. In the weak coupling limit the energy spectrum in each Hilbert subspace of an angular momentum consists of discrete LLs of graphene. In the intermediate coupling regime non-resonant states form a closely spaced energy spectrum. We find, counter-intuitively, that resonant quasi-boundstates of both positive and negative energies exist in the spectrum. The presence of res…
We theoretically investigate the effect of the non-magnetic and magnetic impurities to the 2D parabolic Dirac system. The induced charge density by the charged impuri- ty is obtained by the linear response theory within the random phase approximation. We also detailly calculate the RKKY interaction between two magnetic impurities placed within the 2D sheet of the Dirac materials with isotropic and anisotropic dis- persion. For the anisotropic dispersion, the RKKY interaction is also anisotropic and related to the lattice parameters which can be obtained throuh the DFT calculation or the experi…
The properties of a two-dimensional electron are investigated in the presence of a circular step magnetic field profile. Both electrons with parabolic dispersion as well as Dirac electrons with linear dispersion are studied. We found that in such a magnetic quantum dot no electrons can be confined. Nevertheless close to the Landau levels quasi-bound states can exist with a rather long life time.
We present a theoretical study on the Landau levels (LLs) and magneto-optical absorption of a two-dimensional semi-Dirac electron system under a perpendicular magnetic field. Based on an effective k.p Hamiltonian, we find that the LLs are proportional to the two-thirds power law of the magnetic field and level index, which can be understood as a hybridization of the LL of Schrodinger and Dirac electrons with new features. With the help of Kubo formula, we find the selection rule for interband (intraband) magneto-optical transition is anisotropic (isotropic). Specifically, the selection rules f…
We compute the dynamical polarizability of graphene beyond the usual Dirac cone approximation, integrating over the full Brillouin zone. We find deviations at $\hbarω=2t$ ($t$ the hopping parameter) which amount to a logarithmic singularity due to the van Hove singularity and derive an approximate analytical expression. Also at low energies, we find deviations from the results obtained from the Dirac cone approximation which manifest themselves in a peak spitting at arbitrary direction of the incoming wave vector $\q$. Consequences for the plasmon spectrum are discussed.
The merging or emergence of a pair of Dirac points may be classified according to whether the winding numbers which characterize them are opposite ($+-$ scenario) or identical ($++$ scenario). From the touching point between two parabolic bands (one of them can be flat), two Dirac points with the {\it same} winding number emerge under appropriate distortion (interaction, etc), following the $++$ scenario. Under further distortion, these Dirac points merge following the $+-$ scenario, that is corresponding to {\it opposite} winding numbers. This apparent contradiction is solved by the fact that…
In this work the above-band gap absorption spectrum in two-dimensional Dirac materials is calculated with account for the interaction between the photocarriers. Both the screened Rytova-Keldysh and pure Coulomb attraction potentials between the electron and hole are used in the study. We find that, in the materials under consideration, the interaction enhances the absorbance in the narrow interband edge region, in a sharp contrast to the band model with the parabolic free-carrier energy dispersion. We develop an approximation of the weak interaction which allows us to reproduce the main featur…
We study the density-density response function of a collection of charged massive Dirac particles and present analytical expressions for the dynamical polarization function in one, two and three dimensions. The polarization function is then used to find the dispersion of the plasmon modes, and electrostatic screening of Coulomb interactions within the random phase approximation. We find that for massive Dirac systems, the oscillating screened potential decays as $r^{-1}$, $r^{-2}$ and $r^{-3}$ in one, two, and three dimensions respectively. However for massless Dirac systems there is no electr…
We present a unified derivation of the dynamical correlation functions including density-density, density-current and current-current, of three-dimensional Weyl/Dirac semimetals by use of the Passarino-Veltman reduction scheme at zero temperature. The generalized Kramers-Kronig relations with arbitrary order of subtraction are established to verify these correlation functions. Our results lead to the exact chiral magnetic conductivity and directly recover the previous ones in several limits. We also investigate the magnetic susceptibilities, the orbital magnetization and briefly discuss the im…
The polarization function of electrons with the tilted Dirac cone found in organic conductors is studied using the tilted Weyl equation. The dynamical property is explored based on the analytical treatment of the particle-hole excitation. It is shown that the polarization function as the function of both the frequency and the momentum exhibits cusps and nonmonotonic structures. The polarization function depends not only on the magnitude but also the direction of the external momentum. These properties are characteristic of the tilted Dirac cone, and are contrast to the isotropic case of graphe…
We have studied the dynamical polarization and collective excitations in an anisotropic two-dimensional system undergoing a quantum phase transition with merging of two Dirac points. Analytical results for the one-loop polarization function are obtained at the finite momentum, frequency, and chemical potential. The evolution of the plasmon dispersion across the phase transition is then analyzed within the random phase approximation. We derive analytically the long-wavelength dispersion of the undamped anisotropic collective mode and find that it evolves smoothly at the critical merging point. …
We develop a microscopic theory of an unconventional photogalvanic effect in two-dimensional materials with the Dirac energy spectrum of the carriers of charge under strong driving. As a test bed, we consider a layer of a transition metal dichalcogenide, exposed to two different electromagnetic fields. The first pumping field is circularly-polarized, and its frequency exceeds the material bandgap. It creates an extremely nonequilibrium distribution of electrons and holes in one valley (K) and opens dynamical gaps, whereas the other valley (K') remains empty due to the valley-dependent interban…
We report two-dimensional quantum transport and Dirac fermions in BaMnBi2 single crystals. BaMnBi2 is a layered bad metal with highly anisotropic conductivity and magnetic order below 290 K. Magnetotransport properties, nonzero Berry phase, small cyclotronmass, and the first-principles band structure calculations indicate the presence of Dirac fermions in Bi square nets. Quantum oscillations in the Hall channel suggest the presence of both electron and hole pockets, whereas Dirac and parabolic states coexist at the Fermi level.

In this paper we study how dynamical chiral symmetry breaking is affected by nonzero chiral chemical potential in Dirac semimetals. To perform this study we applied lattice quantum Monte Carlo simulations of Dirac semimetals. Within lattice simulation we calculated the chiral condensate for various fermion masses, the chiral chemical potentials and effective coupling constants. For all parameters under consideration we have found that the chiral condensate is enhanced by chiral chemical potential. Thus our results confirms that in Dirac semimetals the chiral chemical potential plays a role of …
We propose the general scheme of incorporation of the Dirac monopoles into mechanical systems on the three-dimensional conformal flat space. We found that any system (without monopoles) admitting the separation of variables in the elliptic or parabolic coordinates can be extended to the integrable system with the Dirac monopoles located at the foci of the corresponding coordinate systems. Particular cases of this class of system are the two-center MICZ-Kepler system in the Euclidean space, the limiting case when one of the background dyons is located at the infinity as well as the model of par…
We discuss the dynamical polarization with finite momentum and frequency in the presence of many-electron effect, including the screened Coulomb interaction, self-energy and vertex correction. The longitudinal conductivity, screened Coulomb interaction, and the response function are calculated. The behavior of the Dirac Fermions, including the propagation of the charge density which exhibits the causality, affects largely the low-temperature physical properties of the Dirac semimetal, like the silicene. For the polarization-related quantities (like the dielectric function), the method of stand…
We show that hybrid Dirac and Weyl semimetals can be realized in a three-dimensional Luttinger semimetal with quadratic band touching (QBT). We illustrate this using periodic kicking scheme. In particular, we focus on a momentum-dependent drivings (nonuniform driving) and demonstrate the realization of various hybrid Dirac and Weyl semimetals. We identify a unique hybrid dispersion Dirac semimetal with two nodes, where one of the nodes is linear while the other is dispersed quadraticlly. Next, we show that by tilting QBT via periodic driving and in the presence of an external magnetic field, o…
The dynamical generation of Dirac mass in the supersymmetric Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio (SNJL) model with the seesaw mechanism of neutrino is investigeted. The right and left handed Majorana mass parameters are introduced into the SNJL model; we regard them as external model parameters. The question on the origin of these Majorana masses are set aside, and we concentrate on the examination of the effect of the Majorana mass parameters on the dynamical generation of Dirac mass. The effective potential of the model and the gap equation for the self-consistent determination of Dirac mass are derived an…
