In this work, we demonstrate an equivalence on the single-electron transport properties between systems of different nature, a topological quantum system and a (conventional) non-topological one. Our results predicts that the Fano resonances obtained in a T-shaped double quantum dot system coupled to two normal leads and one superconducting lead (QD-QD-S) are identical to the obtained in a ring system composed of a quantum dot coupled to two Majorana bound states confined at the ends of a one dimensional topological superconductor nanowire (QD-MBSs). We show that the non-zero value of the Fano (anti)resonance in the conductance of the QD-MBSs systems is due to a complex Fano factor qM , which is identical to the complex Fano factor qS of the QD-QD-S. The complex nature of qS can be understood as a sign of a phase introduced by the superconducting lead in the QD-QD-S. It is because of this phase that the equivalence between the QD-QD-S and the QD-MBSs is possible. We believe that our results can motivate further theoretical and experimental works toward the understanding of transport properties of topological quantum hybrid structures from conventional non-topological quantum systems.
We experimentally demonstrate quantum coherent dynamics of a triple-dot-based multi-electron hybrid qubit. Pulsed experiments show that this system can be conveniently initialized, controlled, and measured electrically, and has good coherence time as compared to gate time. Furthermore, the current multi-electron hybrid qubit has an operation frequency that is tunable in a wide range, from 2 to about 15 GHz. We provide qualitative understandings of the experimental observations by mapping it onto a three-electron system, and compare it with the double dot hybrid qubit and the all-exchange tripl…
A model is proposed to study the hybrid exciton in a quantum dot-dendrimer systems. The semiconductor organic hybrid exciton is studied using a "real space" Green's function method and a diagrammatic technique. The energy of the hybrid exciton as well as the Green function matrix elements have been calculated for different quantum dot-dendrimer systems, and the method can be applied for systems with different structures. Using the double-time Green's functions the optical processes can be calculated. The optical properties of the systems are controllable by the size and structure of the QD-den…
We theoretically examine the capacitive coupling between two quantum dot hybrid qubits, each consisting of three electrons in a double quantum dot, as a function of the energy detuning of the double dot potentials. We show that a shaped detuning pulse can produce a two-qubit maximally entangling operation in $\sim$50ns without having to simultaneously change tunnel couplings. Simulations of the entangling operation in the presence of experimentally realistic charge noise yield two-qubit fidelities over 90%.
In order to employ solid state quantum dots as qubits, both a high degree of control over the confinement potential as well as sensitive charge detection are essential. We demonstrate that by combining local anodic oxidation with local Schottky-gates, these criteria are nicely fulfilled in the resulting hybrid device. To this end, a quantum dot with adjacent charge detector is defined. After tuning the quantum dot to contain only a single electron, we are able to observe the charge detector signal of the quantum dot state for a wide range of tunnel couplings.
We present an inverted GaAs 2D electron gas with self-assembled InAs quantum dots in close proximity, with the goal of combining quantum transport with quantum optics experiments. We have grown and characterized several wafers -- using transport, AFM and optics -- finding narrow-linewidth optical dots and high-mobility, single subband 2D gases. Despite being buried 500 nm below the surface, the dots are clearly visible on AFM scans, allowing precise localization and paving the way towards a hybrid quantum system integrating optical dots with surface gate-defined nanostructures in the 2D gas.
We report electrical measurements of a single arsenic dopant atom in the tunnel-barrier of a silicon SET. As well as performing electrical characterization of the individual dopant, we study series electrical transport through the dopant and SET. We measure the triple points of this hybrid double dot, using simulations to support our results, and show that we can tune the electrostatic coupling between the two sub-systems.
We have studied the absorption of electromagnetic radiation of an anisotropic quantum dot taking into account the spin-flip processes that is associated with the interaction of the electrons with optical phonons. It is shown that these processes lead to the resonance absorption. Explicit formula is derived for the absorption coefficient. The positions of the resonances peaks are found.
We report electronic transport measurements through a silicon hybrid double quantum dot consisting of a donor and a quantum dot. Transport spectra show resonant tunneling peaks involving different valley states, which illustrate the valley splitting in a quantum dot on a Si/SiO2 interface. The detailed gate bias dependence of double dot transport allows a first direct observation of the valley splitting in the quantum dot, which is controllable between 160-240 ueV with an electric field dependence 1.2 +- 0.2 meV/(MV/m). A large valley splitting is an essential requirement to implement a physic…
The absorption of electromagnetic radiation of an anisotropic quantum dot is theoretically investigated taking into account the processes associated with simultaneous scattering from ionized impurities. It is shown that the scattering of electrons by impurities leads to the resonance absorption even if we have only one impurity in the quantum dot. Explicit formula is derived for the absorption coefficient. The positions of the resonances peaks are found. The effects of external magnetic field on the resonance absorption are studied.
We analyze, through resonant photoluminescence, the spin dynamics of an individual magnetic atom (Mn) coupled to a hole in a semiconductor quantum dot. The hybrid Mn-hole spin and the positively charged exciton in a CdTe/ZnTe quantum dot forms an ensemble of $Λ$ systems which can be addressed optically. Auto-correlation of the resonant photoluminescence and resonant optical pumping experiments are used to study the spin relaxation channels in this multilevel spin system. We identified for the hybrid Mn-hole spin an efficient relaxation channel driven by the interplay of the Mn-hole exchange in…
We experimentally demonstrate a tunable hybrid qubit in a five-electron GaAs double quantum dot. The qubit is encoded in the (1,4) charge regime of the double dot and can be manipulated completely electrically. More importantly, dot anharmonicity leads to quasiparallel energy levels and a new anticrossing, which help preserve quantum coherence of the qubit and yield a useful working point. We have performed Larmor precession and Ramsey fringe experiments near the new working point and find that the qubit decoherence time is significantly improved over a charge qubit. This work shows a new way …
Cavity quantum electrodynamics allows one to study the interaction between light and matter at the most elementary level. The methods developed in this field have taught us how to probe and manipulate individual quantum systems like atoms and superconducting quantum bits with an exquisite accuracy. There is now a strong effort to extend further these methods to other quantum systems, and in particular hybrid quantum dot circuits. This could turn out to be instrumental for a noninvasive study of quantum dot circuits and a realization of scalable spin quantum bit architectures. It could also pro…
Hybrid system composed by a semiconducting nanowire with proximity-induced superconductivity and a quantum dot at the end working as spectrometer was recently used to quantify the so-called degree of Majorana nonlocality [Deng et al., Phys.Rev.B, 98, 085125 (2018)]. Here we demonstrate that spin-resolved density of states of the dot responsible for zero-bias conductance peak strongly depends on the separation between the Majorana bound states (MBSs) and their relative couplings with the dot and investigate how the charging energy affects the spectrum of the system in the distinct scenarios of …
We demonstrate tuning of single quantum dot emission lines by the combined action of the dynamic acoustic field of a radio frequency surface acoustic wave and a static electric field. Both tuning parameters are set all-electrically in a LiNbO$_{3}$-GaAs hybrid device. The surface acoustic wave is excited directly on the strong piezoelectric LiNbO$_{3}$ onto which a GaAs-based p-i-n photodiode containing a single layer of quantum dots was epitaxially transferred. We demonstrate dynamic spectral tuning with bandwidths exceeding 3 meV of single quantum dot emission lines due to deformation potent…
Electron states in a quantum dot (QD) located near a 2D system of dipolar excitons are perturbed by fluctuations of the exciton density caused by the electron-exciton interaction. This results in the frequency changes of electron transitions in a QD. The frequency depends on the exciton density, as well as on the exciton gas phase state. In the present work, the shifts of the two lowest QD energy levels are found both in the normal state of the exciton system and for the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) regime.
Graphene is an attractive material for broadband photodetection but suffers from weak light absorption. Coating graphene with quantum dots can significantly enhance light absorption and create extraordinarily high photo gain. This high gain is often explained by the classical gain theory which is unfortunately an implicit function and may even be questionable. In this work, we managed to derive explicit gain equations for hybrid graphene-quantum-dot photodetectors. Due to the work function mismatch, lead sulfide (PbS) quantum dots coated on graphene will form a surface depletion region near th…
We theoretically investigate the possibility of lasing in an electromagnetic resonator coupled to a voltage-biased hybrid double quantum dot comprised of a double quantum dot tunnel coupled simultaneously to a normal metal and a superconducting lead. Using a unitary transformation, we derive a resonator-double quantum dot interaction Hamiltonian in the rotating-wave approximation which reveals the fact that lasing in this system is mediated by electron transitions between Andreev energy levels in the system's density of states. Moreover, by employing a Markovian master equation incorporating d…
We consider a three-terminal system consisting of a quantum dot strongly coupled to two superconducting reservoirs in the infinite gap limit and weakly coupled to a normal metal. Using a real-time diagrammatic approach, we calculate the dynamics of the proximity-induced pair amplitude on the quantum dot. We find that after a quench the pair amplitude shows pronounced oscillations with a frequency determined by the coupling to the superconductors. In addition, it decays exponentially on a time scale set by the coupling to the normal metal. Strong oscillations of the pair amplitude occur also wh…
In this work electronic structures and optical properties of organic-inorganic exciton and polaritons in two-dimensional heterostructures combining both organic and semiconductor materials are studied. In those systems, Wannier-Frenkel hybrid exciton has unique and interesting properties that can improve the efficiency of optical materials. When an organic-semiconductor combined heterostructure is illuminated by high-intensity electromagnetic radiation with the frequency of the photons at or near the resonance frequency of the Wannier-Frenkel exciton, we obtain a macroscopically occupied syste…
We analyze and give estimates for the long-distance coupling via floating metallic gates between different types of spin qubits in quantum dots made of different commonly used materials. In particular, we consider the hybrid, the singlet-triplet, and the spin-$1/2$ qubits, and the pairwise coupling between each type of these qubits with another hybrid qubit in GaAs, InAs, Si, and $\mathrm{Si_{0.9}Ge_{0.1}}$. We show that hybrid qubits can be capacitively coupled strongly enough to implement two-qubit gates, as long as the distance of the dots from the metallic gates is small enough. Thus, hybr…
This work investigates the electronic properties of the energy spectrum of a hybrid system composed of (i) a circular quantum dot of monolayer graphene surrounded by an infinite sheet of AA-stacked bilayer graphene and (ii) a circular quantum dot of AA-stacked graphene bilayer surrounded by infinite monolayer graphene. We establish analytical findings for the related energy levels and wave functions using the continuum model and the zigzag boundary conditions at the graphene monolayer-bilayer interface. We investigate the effects of perpendicular magnetic, dot radius, and electrical fields on …
We analyze the full counting statistics (FCS) of a single-site quantum dot coupled to multiple metallic electrodes in the normal state and a superconductor for arbitrary transmission. We present an analytical solution of the problem taking into account the full energy dependence of the transmission coefficient. We identify two transport processes as sources of entanglement between the current carriers by observing positive cross current correlations. Furthermore, we consider ferromagnetic electrodes and show how they can be used as detectors in experiments violating the Bell-Clauser-Horne-Shim…
Nanodevices consisting of a quantum dot tunnel coupled to one superconducting and two normal electrodes may serve as a source of entangled electrons. As a result of crossed Andreev reflection the Cooper pair of s-wave character may be split into two electrons and each of them goes into a distinct normal electrode, preserving entanglement. Efficiency of the process depends on the specific system and is tunable by electric means. Our calculations show that in the studied device this efficiency may attain values as large as $80 \%$.
The strong coupling of a superconductor to a spinful quantum dot results in Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) discrete subgap excitations. In isolation and at zero temperature, the excitations are $δ$ resonances. In transport experiments, however, they show as broad differential conductance peaks. We obtain the lineshape of the peaks and their temperature dependence in superconductor-quantum-dot-metal (S-QD-N) nanowire-based devices. Unexpectedly, we find that the peaks shift in energy with temperature, with the shift magnitude and sign depending on ground state parity and bias voltage. Additionally, we …
We theoretically investigate the nonlinear effects in a hybrid quantum optomechanical system consisting of two optically coupled semiconductor microcavities containing a quantum dot and a Kerr nonlinear substrate. The steady state behavior of the mean intracavity optical field demonstrates that the system can be used as an all optical switch. We further investigate the spectrum of small fluctuations in the mechanical displacement of the movable distributed Bragg reflectors (DBR) and observe that normal mode splitting (NMS) takes place for high Kerr nonlinearity and pump power. In addition, we h…
We investigate local and nonlocal signatures of hybridization between a quantum dot state and an extended Andreev bound state (ABS) in a gate-defined InAs nanowire with multiple side probes. When a quantum dot in one of the side probes was hybridized with an ABS in the nanowire, a characteristic spectroscopic pattern was observed both locally, i.e., in the probe with the quantum dot, and nonlocally, in the tunnel conductance of a remote probe. Nonlocal signatures of hybridization reveal the extended nature of the ABS.
We investigate transport properties through a crossbar-shaped structure formed by a quantum dot (QD) coupled to two normal leads and embedded between two one-dimensional topological superconductors (TSCs). Each TSC hosts Majorana bound states (MBSs) at its ends, which can interact between them with an effective coupling strength. We find a signature of bound states in continuum (BIC) in the MBSs spectral function. By allowing finite inter MBSs coupling, BICs splitting is observed and shows projection in transmission for asymmetric coupling case as cuasi-BICs. As a consequence, we also show tha…
Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) offer a platform to explore the physics of quantum electronics including spins. Electron spins in QDs are considered good candidates for quantum bits in quantum information processing, and spin control and readout have been established down to a single electron level. We use these techniques to explore spin dynamics in a hybrid system, namely a QD coupled to a two dimensional electronic reservoir. The proximity of the lead results in relaxation dynamics of both charge and spin, the mechanism of which is revealed by comparing the charge and spin signal. For exam…
We report an improved photosensitivity in few-layer tin disulfide (SnS2) field-effect transistors (FETs) following doping with CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (QDs). The hybrid QD-SnS2 FET devices achieve more than 500 percent increase in the photocurrent response compared with the starting SnS2-only FET device and a spectral responsivity reaching over 650 A/W at 400 nm wavelength. The negligible electrical conductance in a control QD-only FET device suggests that energy transfer between QDs and SnS2 is the main mechanism responsible for the sensitization effect, which is consistent with the …
Isolated spins in semiconductors provide a promising platform to explore quantum mechanical coherence and develop engineered quantum systems. Silicon has attracted great interest as a host material for developing spin qubits because of its weak spin-orbit coupling and hyperfine interaction, and several architectures based on gate defined quantum dots have been proposed and demonstrated experimentally. Recently, a quantum dot hybrid qubit formed by three electrons in double quantum dot was proposed, and non-adiabatic pulsed-gate operation was implemented experimentally, demonstrating simple and…
Recent progress in nanotechnology has allowed to fabricate new hybrid systems where a single two-level system is coupled to a mechanical nanoresonator. In such systems the quantum nature of a macroscopic degree of freedom can be revealed and manipulated. This opens up appealing perspectives for quantum information technologies, and for the exploration of quantum-classical boundary. Here we present the experimental realization of a monolithic solid-state hybrid system governed by material strain: a quantum dot is embedded within a nanowire featuring discrete mechanical resonances corresponding …
Electron spin qubits in silicon, whether in quantum dots or in donor atoms, have long been considered attractive qubits for the implementation of a quantum computer due to the semiconductor vacuum character of silicon and its compatibility with the microelectronics industry. While donor electron spins in silicon provide extremely long coherence times and access to the nuclear spin via the hyperfine interaction, quantum dots have the complementary advantages of fast electrical operations, tunability and scalability. Here we present an approach to a novel hybrid double quantum dot by coupling a …
A two quantum-dot device is coupled in parallel for studying the competition between the pseudo-spin Kondo effect and strongly hybridized molecular states. Cryogenic measurements are performed in the regime of weak coupling of the two dots to lead states under linear transport conditions. Detailed simulations verify the finding of the transition between the two different regimes.
We propose a new model to implement organic exciton-semiconductor exciton hybridization by embedding a semiconductor quantum dot array into an organic medium. A Wannier-Mott transfer exciton is formed when the exciton in each semiconductor dot interacts via the multipole-multipole coupling with other excitons in the different dtos of the array. A new hybrid exciton appears in the system owing to strong dipole-dipole interaction of the Frenkel exciton of the organic molecules with the Wannier Mott transfer exciton of the quantum dot array. This hybrid exciton has both a large oscillator strengt…
We study the low-energy transport properties of a hybrid device composed by a native quantum dot coupled to both ends of a topological superconducting nanowire section hosting Majorana zero-modes. The account of the coupling between the dot and the farthest Majorana zero-mode allows to introduce the topological quality factor, characterizing the level of topological protection in the system. We demonstrate that Coulomb interaction between the dot and the topological superconducting section leads to the onset of the additional overlap of the wavefunctions describing the Majorana zero-modes, lea…
We study spin transport in the one- and two-electron regimes of parallel-coupled double quantum dots (DQDs). The DQDs are formed in InAs nanowires by a combination of crystal-phase engineering and electrostatic gating, with an interdot tunnel coupling ($t$) tunable by one order of magnitude. Large single-particle energy separations (up to 10 meV) and $|g^*|$ factors ($\sim$10) enable detailed studies of the $B$-field-induced transition from a singlet-to-triplet ground state as a function of $t$. In particular, we investigate how the magnitude of the spin-orbit-induced singlet-triplet anticross…
Recent experiments on nanoscale conductors coupled to microwave cavities put in prospect transport investigations of electron-photon interplay in the deep quantum regime. Here we propose a pump-probe scheme to investigate the transient dynamics of individual electron-photon excitations in a double quantum dot-cavity system. Excitations pumped into the system decay via charge tunneling at the double dot, probed in real time. We investigate theoretically the short-time charge transfer statistics at the dot, for periodic pumping, and show that this gives access to vacuum Rabi oscillations as well…
In quantum dot circuits, screening electron clouds in strongly-coupled leads will hybridize with the states of the artificial atom. Using a three-terminal geometry, we directly probe the atomic structure of a quantum dot with Kondo coupling. Our measurements reveal that this hybrid system behaves as a non-linear entity with orbital degeneracy. Geometric distortion reduces the symmetry, lowers the energy, and lifts the degeneracy--the Jahn-Teller effect.
A three terminal nanoscale refrigeration concept based on a vibron-coupled quantum dot hybrid system coupled to two electronic reservoirs and a phonon bath is proposed and analyzed in detail. While investigating the non-trivial role of electron-phonon interactions, we show that, although they are well known to be detrimental from a general refrigeration perspective, can be engineered to favorably improve the trade-off between the cooling power (CP) and the coefficient-of-performance (COP). Furthermore, an additional improvement in the trade-off can be facilitated by applying a high electronic …
The similarities between gated quantum dots and the transistors in modern microelectronics - in fabrication methods, physical structure, and voltage scales for manipulation - have led to great interest in the development of quantum bits (qubits) in semiconductor quantum dots. While quantum dot spin qubits have demonstrated long coherence times, their manipulation is often slower than desired for important future applications, such as factoring. Further, scalability and manufacturability are enhanced when qubits are as simple as possible. Previous work has increased the speed of spin qubit rota…
In this work, it is considered a nanostructure composed by a quantum dot coupled to two ferromagnets and a superconductor. The transport properties of this system are studied within a generalized mean-field approximation taking into account proximity effects and spin-flip correlations within the quantum dot. It is shown that the zero-bias transmittance for the co-tunneling between the ferromagnetic leads presents a dip whose height depends on the relative orientation of the magnetizations. When the superconductor is coupled to the system, electron-hole correlations between different spin state…
Hybrid superconductor-semiconducting nanowire devices provide an ideal platform to investigating novel intragap bound states, such as the Andreev bound states (ABSs), Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) states, and the Majorana bound states. The competition between Kondo correlations and superconductivity in Josephson quantum dot (QD) devices results in two different ground states and the occurrence of a 0-$π$ quantum phase transition. Here we report on transport measurements on hybrid superconductor-InSb nanowire QD devices with different device geometries. We demonstrate a realization of continuous gate-…
Circuit quantum electrodynamics allows one to probe, manipulate and couple superconducting quantum bits using cavity photons at an exquisite level. One of its cornerstones is the possibility to achieve the strong coupling which allows one to hybridize coherently light and matter. Its transposition to quantum dot circuits could offer the opportunity to use new degrees of freedom such as individual charge or spin. However, the strong coupling of quantum dot circuits to cavity photons remains to be observed. Here, we demonstrate a hybrid superconductor-quantum dot circuit which realizes the stron…
Identifying and ameliorating dominant sources of decoherence are important steps in understanding and improving quantum systems. Here we show that the free induction decay time ($T_{2}^{*}$) and the Rabi decay rate ($Γ_{\mathrm{Rabi}}$) of the quantum dot hybrid qubit can be increased by more than an order of magnitude by appropriate tuning of the qubit parameters and operating points. By operating in the spin-like regime of this qubit, and choosing parameters that increase the qubit's resilience to charge noise (which we show is presently the limiting noise source for this qubit), we achieve …
We study the tunneling conductance and magnetization of a correlated quantum dot coupled to external metallic leads, considering the occupancy dependent hybridization. Using a modified equation of motion approach and self-consistent perturbation theory we show that the assisted hopping processes can be responsible for appearance of a plateau in the linear conductance. This process breaks the particle-hole symmetry and is manifested in conductance and magnetization. In presence of the external magnetic field the correlated hybridization enhances the spin polarization.
We theoretically propose a set of universal quantum gates acting on a hybrid qubit formed by coupling a quantum dot spin qubit and Majorana fermion qubit. First, we consider a quantum dot tunnel-coupled to two topological superconductors. The effective spin-Majorana exchange facilitates a hybrid CNOT gate for which either qubit can be the control or target. The second setup is a modular scalable network of topological superconductors and quantum dots. As a result of the exchange interaction between adjacent spin qubits, a CNOT gate is implemented that acts on neighboring Majorana qubits, and e…
We studied theoretically the population dynamics and the absorption spectrum of hybrid nanosystem consisted of a matal nanoparticle (MNP) and a semiconductor quantum dot(SQD). We investigated the exciton-plasmon coupling effects on the population dynamics and the absorption properties of the nanostructure. Our results show that the nonlinear optical response of the hybrid nanosystem can be greatly enhanced or depressed due to the exciton-plasmon couplings. The results obtained here may have the potential applications of nanoscale optical devices such as optical switches and quantum devices suc…
A quantum dot hybrid qubit formed from three electrons in a double quantum dot has the potential for great speed, due to presence of level crossings where the qubit becomes charge-like. Here, we show how to take full advantage of the level crossings in a pulsed gating scheme, which decomposes the spin qubit into a series of charge transitions. We develop one and two-qubit dc quantum gates that are simpler than the previously proposed ac gates. We obtain closed form solutions for the control sequences and show that these sub-nanosecond gates can achieve high fidelities.
Epitaxial semiconductor-superconductor hybrid materials are an excellent basis for studying mesoscopic and topological superconductivity, as the semiconductor inherits a hard superconducting gap while retaining tunable carrier density. Here, we investigate double-quantum-dot devices made from InAs nanowires with a patterned epitaxial Al two-facet shell that proximitizes two gate-defined segments along the nanowire. We follow the evolution of mesoscopic superconductivity and charging energy in this system as a function of magnetic field and voltage-tuned barriers. Inter-dot coupling is varied f…
Electronic coupling and hence hybridization of atoms serve as the basis for the rich properties of the endless library of naturally occurring molecules. Colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) manifesting quantum strong confinement, possess atomic like characteristics with s and p electronic levels, which popularized the notion of CQDs as artificial atoms. Continuing this analogy, when two atoms are close enough to form a molecule so that their orbitals start overlapping, the orbitals' energies start to split into bonding and anti-bonding states made out of hybridized orbitals. The same concept is also …
Van der Waals heterostructures usually formed using atomic thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) with a direct bandgap in the near-infrared to the visible range are promising candidates for low-dimensional optoelectronic applications. The interlayer interaction or coupling between two-dimensional (2D) layer and the substrate or between adjacent 2D layers plays an important role in modifying properties of the individual 2D material or device performances through Coulomb interaction or forming interlayer excitons. Here, we report the realization of quasi zero-dimensional (0D) photon emis…
We theoretically study the generation of quantum correlations in a hybrid system composed by two interacting semiconductor quantum dots mediated by a metal nanoparticle and coupled to an external laser field. Interactions present in the hybrid system are treated using a semiclassical approximation except for the direct dipole-dipole interaction. We report the entanglement of formation, which gives information about entanglement quantum correlations, for continuous wave and pulsed driving applied fields. We have found that for proper values of the physical and geometrical parameters of the hybr…
Resonant tunneling of electrons between two ferromagnets and a quantum dot in the presence of an externally applied magnetic field reveals a strong gate dependence in the linear and nonlinear bias regime. This gate dependence originates from the interplay between Coulomb interactions and spin-dependent hybridization between the quantum dot and the leads. To take into account Coulomb interaction strengths of the same order of magnitude as the external magnetic field and the hybridization strength we adopt the numerically exact iterative summation of path integrals (ISPI).
Quantum dots in silicon are promising candidates for implementation of solid-state quantum information processing. It is important to understand the effects of the multiple conduction band valleys of silicon on the properties of these devices. Here we introduce a novel, systematic effective mass theory of valley-orbit coupling in disordered silicon systems. This theory reveals valley-orbit hybridization effects that are detrimental for storing quantum information in the valley degree of freedom, including non-vanishing dipole matrix elements between valley states and altered intervalley tunnel…
