The study of the properties of pion pairs emitted in pp Central Production Experiments (CEP) shows that a) scalar and tensor mesons production dominates at increasing energies and that 2++ production is suppressed by selecting events with low four momentum transfer square -t at both proton vertices and b) pion+pion- decays of the f0(1370) meson are directly observable as an isolated peak over a vanishing background between 1.1 and 1.6 GeV in measurements at high energies and low -t. Together with the measurements of the decay branching ratios of the f0(1370) into sigma sigma, rho rho, pion pion, Kaon antiKaon, eta eta from pbar annihilation at rest, these observations point at a high glue content of the f0(1370) and suggest that LHC and central detectors supplemented by precision forward detectors installed in roman pots could be used as a unique clean source of all the low energy scalars.
We review the current theoretical situation with regard to the anomalously large cross section for exclusive J/psi + eta_c production in e^+ e^- annihilation, as measured by BELLE Collaboration.
We examine the mixing between the sigma meson $σ$ and the "pure" glueball field $H$ and study the decays of the scalar glueball candidate $f_0(1500)$ (a linear combination of $σ$ and $H$) into two and four pions in effective linear sigma model. From recent experimental data on $f_0(1500)$ decay to pions we point out that the mixing angle is of order of 0.1.
We discuss the mixing between the sigma meson sigma and the "pure" glueball field H and study the decays of the scalar glueball candidates f_0(1370), f_0(1500) and f_0(1710) (a linear combination of sigma and H) into two pions in an effective linear sigma model.
We here compute the reaction $ γ\; γ\rightarrow G \; π^{0} $ for various glueball candidates $ G $ and their assumed quantum states, using a non-relativistic gluon bound-state model for the glueball.
We consider the two-flavor version of the extended linear sigma model (eLSM), which contains (pseudo)scalar and (axial-)vector quark-antiquark mesons, a scalar glueball (predominantly corresponding to $f_{0}(1710)$), as well as the nucleon and its chiral partner. We extend this model by the additional light scalar meson $f_{0}(500)$, predominantly a putative four-quark state. We investigate various interaction terms of the four-quark and glueball states with the other particles, some of which preserve and some of which explicitly break the $U(1)_{\textrm{A}}$ symmetry. We test our model by per…
The existence and properties of the f0(1370) scalar meson are rather well established from data of antiproton annihilations at rest. However conflicting results from Central Exclusive Production (CEP) experiments of the last millennium and ignorance of data from antiproton annihilations at rest in H2 and D2 bubble chambers have generated doubts on the very existence of the f0(1370). Properties of π+π- pairs produced in central exclusive production (CEP) reactions observed in old data together with data collected in the current decade at high energy colliders permit to show that π+π- decays of …
Using a non--relativistic gluon bound--state model for glueballs (G), we compute the subprocess $q\,\bar q\, \to\, G\,π$, and we therefrom derive the yield of the overall reaction $p\,\bar p\, \to\, G\,πX$, assuming the glueball and the pion to be emitted with their transverse momenta large, opposite and approximately equal. Numerical results are presented in the form of $p_T$ spectra for various glueball candidates and their possible quantum states, assuming those particles to be produced, in the type of reactions here considered, at high--energy $p\,\bar p$ colliders such as the CERN SppS.
In this contribution we summarize recent results on the computation of cross sections for glueball candidates production in quasi-real photon-photon collisions and on central diffraction processes, i.e. double Pomeron exchange, in heavy ion interactions at the LHC are computed. In particular, we provide predictions for the production of exotic mesons f0(1500), f0(1710) and X(1835). The rates for these distinct production channels are compared.
Using flavor SU(3) symmetry for the light quarks validated by the available experimental data, we propose an intuitive way to hunt for a scalar glueball in B decays. In the presence of mixing between the glueball and ordinary scalar mesons, we explore the extraction of the mixing parameters. In particular, we discuss the implication from the recently available experimental data and show the sensitivities of B decays as a probe to the scalar structures. The future Super KEKB factory would allow access to establishing the mixing pattern among the scalars, and possibly allow one to disentangle th…
The cross sections for the glueball candidates production in quasi-real photon-photon collisions and on central diffraction processes, i.e. double Pomeron exchange, in heavy ion interactions at RHIC and LHC are computed. The rates for these distinct production channels are compared and they may be a fruitful approach to the investigation of glueballs.
Recently the D$^+$ charm meson was observed to have a clear branching ratio into the low energy $π-π$ sigma resonance, while this channel was not detected in the D$_s^+$ decay. It is shown that this is consistent with the standard treatment of exclusive charm meson decays and a proposed glueball/sigma picture.
Using a bound-state model of weakly bound gluons for glueballs made of two gluons and a natural generalization of the perturbative QCD formalism for exclusive hadronic processes, we present results for glueball production in radiative J/psi, Upsilon decays into several possible glueball states, including L \not= 0 ones. We perform a detailed phenomenological analysis, presenting results for the more favored experimental candidates and for decay angular distributions.
We calculate the cross section for the exclusive production of J^{PC}=0^{++} glueballs G_0 in association with the J/psi in e^+e^- annihilation using the pQCD factorization formalism. The required long-distance matrix element for the glueball is bounded by CUSB data from a search for resonances in radiative Upsilon decay. The cross section for e^+e^- -> J/psi+ G_0 at sqrt{s}=10.6 GeV is similar to exclusive charmonium-pair production e^+e^- -> J/psi+h for h=eta_c and chi_{c0}, and is larger by a factor 2 than that for h=eta_{c}(2S). As the subprocesses gamma^* -> (c c-bar) (c c-bar) and gamma^…
We present the first 2+1 flavour spectrum measurements of glueball states using high statistics simulations with improved staggered fermions. We find a spectrum consistent with quenched measurements of scalar, pseudoscalar andtensor glueball states. The measurements were made using 5000 configurations at a lattice spacing of 0.123 fm and pion mass of 280 MeV and 3000 configurations at 0.092 fm with a pion mass of 360 MeV. We see some evidence of coupling to 2 pion states. We compare our results with the experimental glueball candidate spectrum as well as quenched glueball estimates.
Decays into two charged pions of the f0(1370) are the main source of an isolated structure localized between 1.2 and 1.5 GeV in the two charged pions mass spectrum measured in pp Central Exclusive Production (CEP) at 200 GeV at very low four momentum transfer ltl by the STAR experiment. These data confirm in the two charged pions decay channel the existence of the f0(1370) as an isolated well identified structure previously observed in K+K-, KsKs, 4 charged pions, two charged and two neutral pions and 4 neutral pions decays measured in antiproton annihilations at rest. The ensemble of these da…
The widths of a glueball decay to two pions or kaons are analyzed in the pQCD framework. Our results show that the glueball ground state has small branching ratio for two-meson decay mode, which is around $10^{-2}$. The predicted values are consistent with the data of $ξ\toππ, KK$ if $ξ$ particle is a $2^{++}$ glueball. Applicability of pQCD to the glueball decay and comparison with $χ_{cJ}$ decay are also discussed.
We evaluate differential distributions for exclusive scalar $f_0(1500)$ production for $p \bar p \to N_1 N_2 f_0$ (FAIR@GSI) and $p p \to p p f_0$ (J-PARC@Tokai). Both QCD diffractive and pion-pion meson exchange current (MEC) components are included. Rather large cross sections are predicted. The pion-pion component, never discussed in the literature, dominates close to the threshold while the diffractive component takes over for larger energies. The diffractive component is calculated based on two-gluon impact factors as well as in the framework of Khoze-Martin-Ryskin approach proposed for d…
The flavour independence hypothesis for (tensor) glueball decays into exclusive final states is not ruled out by the existing data. A new methodology for testing its validity and accuracy is proposed in the framework of a particular mixing scheme. As an important consequence of our analysis, a relative factor of the order of 10 must be experimentally observed for the ratio $Γ(Θ\rightarrow K\bar{K})Γ(Θ\rightarrow ππ)$, if flavour independence indeed is valid.
Exclusive Double Diffractive Events (EDDE) are analysed as the source of information about the central system. Experimental possibilities for exotic particles searches are considered. From the reggeized tensor current picture some azimuthal angle dependences were obtained to fit the data from WA102 experiment and to make predictions for LHC collider.
A simple model based on Regge approach is proposed for description of the central exclusive production (CEP) of the light tensor glueball lying on the Regge trajectory of the soft Pomeron.
For a long time doubts have existed on the existence of the f0(1370) meson as an individual object distinct and separated from the sigma meson. Decays into two charged pions of the f0(1370) are the main source of an isolated structure localized between 1.2 and 1.5 GeV in the two charged pions mass spectrum measured in pp Central Exclusive Production (CEP) at 200 GeV at very low four momentum transfer squared ltl. These data confirm in the two charged pions decay channel the existence of the f0(1370) as an isolated well identified structure that was previously observed in K+K-, KsKs, 4 neutral …
The exclusive reaction $pp \to pp (K^{*0} \bar{K}^{*0} \to K^{+}π^{-}K^{-}π^{+})$ for the LHC experiments is discussed. The amplitudes for the reaction are formulated within the tensor-pomeron approach. We consider two diffractive mechanisms: the $f_{2}(1950)$ $s$-channel exchange mechanism and the $K^{*0}$-exchange mechanism. First mechanism is a candidate for central diffractive production of tensor glueball and the second one is an irreducible continuum. Comparison with data from WA102 experiment are made and predictions for LHC experiments are given. We find that including the continuum co…
We investigate hard exclusive reactions on the nucleon with soft pion emission. A parametrization of corresponding hadronic matrix elements in terms of parton distributions for final pion-nucleon state is provided. These distributions are calculated in terms of nucleon and pion GPDs and the pion distribution amplitude via soft-pion theorems. Some observables for the process of hard charged pion production on the proton with soft pion emission are computed.
We computed the leading non-analytic chiral corrections to the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of the pion and to the two-pion distribution amplitudes. This allows us to obtain the corresponding corrections for the hard exclusive processes, such as gamma^* gamma -> pi pi, gamma^* N -> 2pi N' and deeply virtual Compton scattering on the pion target.
This compact review about gluonium focuses on a slate of theoretical efforts; among the many standing works, I have selected several that are meant to assist in the identification, among ordinary mesons, of the few Yang-Mills glueball configurations that populate the energy region below 3 GeV. This includes $J/ψ$ radiative and vector-meson decays, studies of scalar meson mixing, of high-energy cross sections via the Pomeron and the odderon, glueball decays, etc. The weight of accumulated evidence seems to support the $f_0(1710)$ as having a large (and the largest) glueball component among the …
We study the possibility of the scalar charmonium and glueball mixing in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation at $\sqrt{s}=10.6$ GeV. The effects can be used to explain the unexpected large cross section ($12\pm 4$ fb) and the anomalous angular distribution ($α= -1.1^{+0.8}_{-0.6}$) of the exclusive $e^+e^-\to J/ψχ_{c0}$ process observed by Belle experiments at KEKB. We calculate the helicity amplitudes for the process $e^+ e^- \to J/ψH(0^{++})$ in NRQCD, where $H(0^{++})$ is the mixed state. We present a detailed analysis on the total cross section and various angular asymmetries which could be useful to r…
We calculate azimuthal asymmetries and the Callan-Gross $R$-ratio for semi-exclusive pion production in deep inelastic scattering taking into account higher twist effects. Our results are qualitatively different from the QCD-improved parton model predictions for semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering.
We investigate electroproduction of pion pairs on the nucleon in the framework of QCD factorization for hard exclusive processes. We extend previous analyses by taking the hard-scattering coefficients at next-to-leading order in $α_s$. The dynamics of the produced pion pair is described by two-pion distribution amplitudes, for which we perform a detailed theoretical and phenomenological analysis. In particular, we obtain constraints on these quantities by comparing our results with measurements of angular observables that are sensitive to the interference between two-pion production in the iso…
We investigate the role of exclusive channels in semi-inclusive electroproduction of pions and kaons. Using the QCD factorization theorem for hard exclusive processes we evaluate the cross sections for exclusive pseudoscalar and vector meson production in terms of generalized parton distributions and meson distribution amplitudes. We investigate the uncertainties arising from the modeling of the nonperturbative input quantities. Combining these results with available experimental data, we compare the cross sections for exclusive channels to that obtained from quark fragmentation in semi-inclus…
Calculations of central exclusive diffractive di-pion continuum production are presented in the Regge-eikonal approach. Data from ISR, STAR, CDF and CMS were analyzed and compared with theoretical description. We also consider theoretical predictions for LHC, possible nuances and problems of calculations and prospects of investigations at present and future hadron colliders.
Using the leading order amplitudes of hard exclusive electroproduction of pion pairs we have analyzed the angular distribution of the two produced particles. At leading twist a pion pair can be produced only in an isovector or an isoscalar state. We show that certain components of the angular distribution only get contributions from the interference of the I=1 and the (much smaller) I=0 amplitude. Therefore our predictions prove to be a good probe of isospin zero pion pair production. We predict effects of a measurable size that could be observed at experiments like HERMES. We also discuss how…
In this talk it is reported on an analysis of hard exclusive pion electroproduction within the handbag approach. Particular emphasis is laid on single-spin asymmetries. It is argued that a recent HERMES measurement of asymmetries measured with a transversely polarized target clearly indicate the occurrence of strong contributions from transversely polarized photons. Within the handbag approach such gamma_T --> pion transitions are described by the transversity GPDs accompanied by a twist-3 pion wave function. It is shown that this approach leads to results on cross sections and single-spin asy…
We investigate the exclusive electroproduction of pi^+ mesons from nucleons. To leading twist, leading order alpha_s accuracy the corresponding production amplitude can be decomposed into pseudovector and pseudoscalar parts. Both can be expressed in terms of quark double distribution functions of the nucleon. While the pseudovector contribution is connected to ordinary polarized quark distributions, the pseudoscalar part can be related to one pion t-channel exchange. We observe that the pseudovector part of the production amplitude is important at x < 0.1. On the other hand, for 0.1 < x < 0.4 …
A semiclassical theory of high energy scattering based on interrupted tunneling (instantons) or QCD sphaleron production has been recently developed to describe the growing hadronic cross section and properties of the soft Pomeron. In this work we address double-pomeron processes in this framework for the first time. We specifically derive the cross section for central production of parity even and odd clusters, scalar and pseudoscalar glueballs, and $η'$ in parton-parton scattering at high energy. We show that the specific dependence of the production cross section on all its kinematical vari…
The leading twist parametrization of dipion mass distribution in hard exclusive reactions is proposed. Its parameters are related to quark distributions (usual and skewed) in the pion and to distributions amplitudes of mesons ($π$, $ρ$, etc.). We show that measurements of the shape of dipion mass distribution in hard exclusie reactions can give important information about partonic structure of the pion. The expression for the amplitude of the reaction $γ^*γ\to ππ$ near the threshold in terms of singlet quark distribution in the pion is presented.
We study the three-flavor chirally and dilatation invariant extended Linear Sigma Model with (pseudo)scalar and (axial-)vector mesons as well as a scalar dilaton field whose excitations are interpreted as a glueball. The model successfully describes masses and decay widths of quark-antiquark mesons in the low-energy region up to 1.6 GeV. Here we study in detail the vacuum properties of the scalar-isoscalar channel and find that (i) a narrow glueball is only possible if the vacuum expectation value of the dilaton field is (at tree-level) quite large (i.e., larger than what lattice QCD and QCD s…
We study the mixing structure of isospin-singlet scalars, the light quarkonium $(\bar{q}q)$ and glueball $(gg)$ in two-flavor QCD, based on a holographic model of bottom-up hard-wall type. In the model the pure quarkonium and glueball states are unambiguously defined in terms of the different $U(1)_A$ charges in the restoration limit of the chiral $U(2)_L \times U(2)_R$ symmetry, in which the quarkonium gets massless as the chiral partner of the pion. Hence the $\bar{q}q$-$gg$ mixing arises in the presence of the nonzero chiral condensate or pion decay constant. At the realistic point where th…
We develop and discuss an infrared-finite factorization and optimized renormalization scheme for calculating exclusive processes which enables the inclusion of transverse degrees of freedom without entailing suppression of calculated observables, like form factors. This is achieved by employing an analytic, i.e., infrared stable, effective coupling $α_{s}(Q^{2})$ which removes the Landau singularity at $Q^{2}=Λ_{\rm QCD}^{2}$ by a power-behaved correction. The ensuing contributions to the cusp anomalous dimension, related to the Sudakov form factor, and to the quark anomalous dimension, which …
Production of $f_0(1710)$, a theoretical endeavor of pure scalar glueball state, is studied in detail from exclusive rare B decay within the framework of perturbative QCD. The branching fraction for $B^\pm \to K^{*\pm} f_0(1710) \to K^{*\pm} (K \bar K)$ is estimated to be about $8 \times 10^{-6}$, while for $B^\pm \to K^\pm f_0(1710) \to K^\pm (K \bar K)$ it is smaller by roughly an order of magnitude. With the accumulation of almost 1 billion $B \bar B$ pairs from the B{\tiny A}B{\tiny AR} and Belle experiments to date, hunting for a scalar glueball via these rare decay modes should be attain…
We evaluate differential distributions for exclusive scalar $f_0(1500)$ meson (glueball candidate) production. Both QCD diffractive, pion-pion meson exchange current (MEC) components as well as double-diffractive mechanism with intermediate pionic loop are calculated. The pion-pion component, which can be reliably calculated, dominates close to the threshold while the diffractive component may take over only for larger energies. At the moment only upper limit for the QCD-diffractive component can be obtained. The diffractive component is calculated based on the Khoze-Martin-Ryskin approach pro…
The formalism for treating the leading-twist contributions of the two-gluon Fock components occurring in hard exclusive processes that involve eta and eta' mesons is reviewed. The calculation of the eta, eta'--photon transition form factor in next-to-leading order in alpha_s, as well as, the analysis of the g* g* eta' vertex and the electro- and photoproduction of eta, eta' mesons are presented. Applications of this formalism to other relevant quantities such as glueballs are also discussed.
We perform a QCD analysis of the exclusive production of two mesons in gamma^* gamma collisions in the kinematical domain of large photon virtuality Q and small hadronic invariant mass W. This reaction is dominated by a scale invariant mechanism which factorizes into a perturbative subprocess, gamma^* gamma --> q qbar or gamma^* gamma --> g g, and a generalized two-meson distribution amplitude. We develop in detail the phenomenology of this process at e^+ e^- colliders. Using a simple model for the two-pion distribution amplitude, based on its general properties, we estimate the cross section …
A detailed analysis of semi-exclusive diffractive processes in e-p DIS at HERA, with the diffractive final states in the forward direction is presented. The contributions of the subleading f_2, ω, a_2, ρreggeons and the pion exchanges to the diffractive structure function with the forward proton or neutron are estimated. It is found that the (a_2,ρ) reggeons are entirely responsible for the forward neutron production at x_P < 10^{-3}. The πN production in the forward region is estimated using the Deck mechanism. The significance of this reaction for the processes measured at HERA, especially w…
Exclusive $π^0$ electroproduction from nucleons is suggested for extracting the tensor charge and other quantities related to transversity from experimental data. This process isolates C-parity odd and chiral odd combinations of t-channel exchange quantum numbers. In a hadronic picture it connects the meson production amplitudes to C-odd Regge exchanges with final state interactions. In a description based on partonic degrees of freedom, the helicity structure for this C-odd process relates to the quark helicity flip, or chiral odd generalized parton distributions.
We study the hard exclusive production of two pions in the virtual photon fragmentation region with various invariant masses including the resonance region. The amplitude is expressed in terms of two-pion light cone distribution amplitudes ($2π$DA's). We derive dispersion relations for these amplitudes, which enables us to fix them completely in terms of $ππ$ scattering phases and a few low-energy subtraction constants determind by the effective chiral lagrangian. Quantitative estimates of the resonance as well $ππ$ background DA's at low normalization point are made. We also prove certain new…
We investigate the glueball spectrum for $N_f=4$ fermions corresponding to low pion masses of $m_π\sim 250$MeV. We do so by making use of configurations produced with maximally twisted fermions within the framework of the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC). We extract states that belong to irreducible representations of the octahedral group of rotations $R$ in combination with the quantum numbers of charge conjugation $C$ and parity $P$, i.e. $R^{PC}$. We implement the Generalized Eigenvalue Problem (GEVP) using a basis consisting only of gluonic operators. The purpose of this work is …
By studying the $η_c$ exclusive decay to double glueballs, we introduce a model to mimic phenomenologically the gluon-pair-vacuum interaction vertices, namely the $0^{++}$ model. Based on this model, we study glueball production in pseudoscalar quarkonium decays, explicitly $η_c \to f_0(1500)η(1405)$, $η_b\to f_0(1500)η(1405)$ and $η_b\to f_0(1710)η(1405)$ processes. Among them $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$ are well-known scalars possessing large glue components and $η(1405)$ is a potential candidate for pseudoscalar glueball. The preliminary calculation results indicate that these processes are…

We study the exclusive decay of $J/Ψ$, $Υ$ and $B_c$ into a lepton pair combined with two pions in the two kinematic regions. One is specified by the two pions having large momenta, but a small invariant mass. The other is specified by the two pions having small momenta. In both cases we find that in the heavy quark limit the decay amplitude takes a factorized form, in which the nonperturbative effect related to heavy meson is represented by a NRQCD matrix element. The nonperturbative effects related to the two pions are represented by some universal functions characterizing the conversion of …
In this paper, we calculate the next-to-leading order (NLO) quantum chromodynamics (QCD) corrections to the exclusive processes $B_c^+\to χ_{cJ}(h_c)π^+$ in the framework of the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism. The results show that NLO QCD corrections markedly enhance the branching ratios with $K$ factors of about 2.5. In combination with the study of $B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+$, we find that the NLO NRQCD prediction for the ratio of branching fractions $\frac{\mathcal{B}(B_c^+\to χ_{c0}π^+)}{\mathcal{B}(B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+)}$ is then compatible with the experimental measurement.
Calculations of central exclusive diffractive production (CEDP) of two pions via continuum and resonance mechanism are presented in the Regge-eikonal approach. Data from STAR, ISR, CDF and CMS were analysed and compared with theoretical description. Preliminary extraction of $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$ and $f_2(1270)$ couplings to Pomeron, and also $ρ$ meson contribution from photoproduction mechanism to the CEDP cross-section are considered. We show possible nuances and problems of calculations and prospects of investigations at present and future hadron colliders.
We present results for exclusive $p p \to p p π^+ π^-$ or $p \bar p \to p \bar p π^+ π^-$ processes at high energies. We discuss the role of new additional absorption corrections in the non-resonant Lebiedowicz-Szczurek model mediated by the pomeron and reggeon exchanges. We discuss also the role of the $ρ^{0}$ and the Drell-Söding photoproduction mechanism. We compare our predictions with recent experimental results obtained by the STAR and CDF Collaborations. We present predictions for the ALICE, ATLAS and CMS experiments. Differential distributions in invariant two-pion mass and two-dimensi…
