This compact review about gluonium focuses on a slate of theoretical efforts; among the many standing works, I have selected several that are meant to assist in the identification, among ordinary mesons, of the few Yang-Mills glueball configurations that populate the energy region below 3 GeV. This includes $J/ψ$ radiative and vector-meson decays, studies of scalar meson mixing, of high-energy cross sections via the Pomeron and the odderon, glueball decays, etc. The weight of accumulated evidence seems to support the $f_0(1710)$ as having a large (and the largest) glueball component among the scalars, although no single observable by itself is conclusive. Further tests would be welcome, such as exclusive $f_J$ production at asymptotically high $s$ and $t$. No clear experimental candidates for the pseudoscalar or tensor glueball stand out yet, and continuing investigations trying to sort them out will certainly teach us much more about mesons.
A new meson mass relation for meson nonet is given after considering mixing with glueball. The mixing between pseudoscalar mesons and pseudoscalar glueball will decrease the mass of glueball by about 500 Mev. So, according to the predicted mass of the pure pseudoscalar glueball given by lattice calculation and effective Hamiltonian, the expected mass of mixed pseudoscalar glueball is about 1.7 Gev. This result is helpful for experimemtal search for the mixed Isoscalar pseudoscalar glueball.
Calculations in unquenched QCD for the scalar glueball spectrum have confirmed previous results of Gluodynamics finding a glueball at ~ 1750 MeV. I analyze the implications of this discovery from the point of view of glueball-meson mixing at the light of the experimental scalar sprectrum.
We include instanton effects in QCD sum rules for coupled scalar glueballs and mesons. We find a light glueball/sigma as in earlier studies without instantons, but in a lattice-type pure instanton model the light glueball/sigma is not found. In the 1-2 Gev region we now find that lightest I=0 meson, in the region of the f$_o$(1370), has no direct glueball mixing, with the instanton loop replacing the glueball component. The lightest scalar mainly glueball in the region of the f$_o$(1500) is sensitive to the choice of nonperturbative gluonic parameters.
We review lattice QCD results for glueballs (including a discussion of mixing with scalar mesons), hybrid mesons and exotic mesons (such as $B_s B_s$ molecules).
We review lattice QCD results for glueballs (including a discussion of mixing with scalar mesons), hybrid mesons and exotic mesons (such as $B_s B_s$ molecules). We also discuss string breaking as a mixing between colour flux states and $B \bar{B}$ states.
In a U(3)x U(3) quark chiral model of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio type with the 't Hooft interaction, the ground scalar isoscalar mesons and a scalar glueball are described. The glueball (dilaton) is introduced into the effective meson Lagrangian written in a chirally symmetric form on the base of scale invariance. The singlet-octet mixing of scalar isoscalar mesons and their mixing with the glueball are taken into account. Mass spectra of the scalar mesons and glueball and their strong decays are described.
The mixing angles between scalar isoscalar resonances and a scalar glueball are determined from their decays into two pseudoscalar mesons. For $f_0(1370)$ and $f_0(1500)$, at most a small glueball component is admitted by the data. The decay modes of $f_0(1710)$, $f_0(1770)$, $f_0(2020)$, and $f_0(2100)$ require significant glueball fractions. Above this mass, the errors in the decay frequencies become too large to extract a glueball component. The summation of all observed glueball fractions up to 2100\,MeV yields (78\er18)\%. The glueball fractions as function of the mass are consistent with…
Ground and first radially excited scalar isoscalar meson states and a scalar glueball are described in a nonlocal U(3)xU(3) quark model. The glueball is introduced into the effective meson Lagrangian by means of the dilaton model on the base of the scale invariance of the meson Lagrangian. The scale invariance breaking by current quark masses and gluon anomalies is taken into account. The glueball anomalies turn out to be important for the description of the glueball-quarkonia mixing. The masses of five scalar isoscalar meson states and their strong decay widths are calculated. The state f_0(1…
We solve the B.S. equation of glueballs under instantaneous approximation. With the B.S wave function obtained we calculate the decay width of glueballs to two pseudoscalar mesons, $Γ(ππ)$, $Γ(kk)$ and $Γ(ηη)$. $Γ(ηη^\prime)$ from QCD anomaly is also estimated.
The widths of a glueball decay to two pions or kaons are analyzed in the pQCD framework. Our results show that the glueball ground state has small branching ratio for two-meson decay mode, which is around $10^{-2}$. The predicted values are consistent with the data of $ξ\toππ, KK$ if $ξ$ particle is a $2^{++}$ glueball. Applicability of pQCD to the glueball decay and comparison with $χ_{cJ}$ decay are also discussed.
Ground-state scalar isoscalar mesons and a scalar glueball are described in a U(3)xU(3) chiral quark model of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) type with 't Hooft interaction. The latter interaction produces singlet-octet mixing in the scalar and pseudoscalar sectors. The glueball is introduced into the effective meson Lagrangian as a dilaton on the base of scale invariance. The mixing of the glueball with scalar isoscalar quarkonia and amplitudes of their decays into two pseudoscalar mesons are shown to be proportional to current quark masses, vanishing in the chiral limit. Mass spectra of the sc…
The strong and electromagnetic decays of the ground-state tensor mesons are studied in an effective field approach. A fit to the well-known experimental data is performed. The decay ratios of the tensor glueball are evaluated and possible candidates are discussed.
Lattice QCD determinations appropriate to hadron spectroscopy are reviewed with emphasis on the glueball and hybrid meson states in the quenched approximation. Hybrids are discussed for heavy and for light quarks. The effects of sea quarks (unquenching) are explored.
Based on the general analysis of branching ratio of two pseudoscalar meson channels, discriminants between mesons and glueballs for $I=0, J^{PC}=even^{++}$ unflavored hadrons with mass between 1.2 GeV and 2.9 GeV are suggested. Known $I=0, J^{PC}=2^{++}, f_2(1525)$ particle is discriminated as a typical meson. The way to discriminate new $I=0, J^{PC}=even^{++}$ unflavored hadrons is discussed.
Using the ``glueball dominance'' picture of the mixing between q\bar{q} mesons of different hidden flavors, we establish new glueball-meson mass relations which serve as a basis for glueball spectral systematics. For the tensor glueball mass 2.3\pm 0.1 GeV used as an input parameter, these relations predict the following glueball masses: M(0^{++})\simeq 1.65\pm 0.05 GeV, M(1^{--})\simeq 3.2\pm 0.2 GeV, M(2^{-+})\simeq 2.95\pm 0.15 GeV, M(3^{--})\simeq 2.8\pm 0.15 GeV. We briefly discuss the failure of such relations for the pseudoscalar sector. Our results are consistent with (quasi)-linear Re…
We investigate light scalar mesons and glueballs in the $Dp-Dq$ hard-wall models, including $D3-Dq$, $D4-Dq$, and $D6-Dq$ systems. It is found that only in the $D4-D6$ and $D4-D8$ hard wall models, the predicted masses of the ${\bar q} q$ scalar meson $f_0$, scalar glueball are consistent with their experimental or lattice results. This indicates that $D4-D6$ and $D4-D8$ hard-wall models are favorite candidates of the realistic holographic QCD model.
We discuss the phenomenology of scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, emphasizing those which do not carry manifest flavor quantum numbers. Many of the properties of these mesons are still not fully understood. Some of them probably do not have the usual two-quark (quark-antiquark) structure, but may be mixed with glueball states or other exotics. %, hybrids, or four-quark states. We construct or discuss simple models for these mesons and point out which measurements can shed light on their composition.
The existence of non-q\bar{q} hadrons such as glueballs and hybrids is one of the most important qualitative questions in QCD. The COMPASS experiment offers the possibility to unambiguously identify such states and map out the glueball and hybrid spectrum. In this review I discuss the expected properties of glueballs and hybrids and how they might be produced and studied by the COMPASS collaboration.
We discuss the recent observation of f_0(980) in charmless B-decays and in gluon jets which hints toward a gluonic coupling of this meson similar to eta'. Further predictions on B-decays into scalar particles are presented. Charmless B decays also show a broad K Kbar (and possibly pi pi) S-wave enhancement which we relate to the 0^{++} glueball. These gluonic mesons represent a sizable fraction of the theoretically derived decay rate for b -> sg.
We review the phenomenological and theoretical evidences for dynamical gluon mass generation and the main features of the glueball spectrum in (pure gauge) Yang-Mills theories. The mixing between glueball and conventional $\bar q q$ states in $f_0$ scalar mesons is discussed. For pseudoscalar mesons, the inclusion of the glue field in an effective low energy theory is presented leading to a third isoscalar $η''$ partner of the $η$ and $η'$. Branching ratios for processes involving $η''$ are given and, when available, compatible with data for $η(1405)$.
We study the vacuum properties of the pseudoscalar glueball and charmed mesons by using the so-called extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM). This model includes scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, as well as vector and axial-vector mesons. We calculate the mesonic and baryonic decays of the pseudoscalar glueball, where we fixed its mass to $2.6$ GeV, as predicted by lattice-QCD simulations, and take a closer look at the scalar-isoscalar decay channel. As a second step, we enlarge the so-called extended linear Sigma model (eLSM) by including the charm quark to a global $U(4)_r\times U(4)_l$ chiral sym…
We formulate an extended linear $σ$ model of a quarkonia nonet and a tetraquark nonet as well as a complex iso-singlet (glueball) field to study the low-lying scalar meson. Chiral symmetry and $U_A(1)$ symmetry and their breaking play important role to shape the scalar meson spectrum in our work. Based on our study we will comment on what may be the mass of the lowest possible scalar and pseudoscalar glueball states. We will also discuss on what may be the nature of the sigma or $f_0(600)$ meson.
We study the strong and electromagnetic decay properties of scalar mesons above 1 GeV within a chiral approach. The scalar-isoscalar states are treated as mixed states of quarkonia and glueball configurations. A fit to the experimental decay rates listed by the Particle Data group is performed to extract phenomenological constraints on the nature of the scalar resonances. A comparison to other theoretical approaches in the scalar meson sector is discussed.
The formation and spectrum of two-particle bound states are investigated within a simple relativistic quantum field model with the Yukawa-type interaction. Within this approach, relatively weakly interacting quarks and gluons form stable bound states under the analytic confinement. By introducing a minimal set of free parameters (the quark masses, the coupling constant and the confinement 'radius') and by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation with one-gluon exchange, we satisfactorily explain the experimental data for most known mesons and the glueball.
We expand the study of the pseudoscalar glueball and its first excited state by constructing an interaction Lagrangian which produces the two- and three-body decays of the pseudoscalar glueball, $J^{PC}=0^{-+}$, into the (pseudo)scalar and the excited (pseudo)scalar mesons as well as by constructing other two different chiral Lagrangians which describe the two- and three-body decays of the first excited pseudoscalar glueball, $J^{PC}=0^{*-+}$, into the (pseudo)scalar and the excited (pseudo)scalar mesons. We compute the decay channels for the ground state of a pseudoscalar glueball with a mass…
We analyze the mixing of the scalar glueball with the scalar-isoscalar quarkonia states above 1 GeV in a non-local covariant constituent approach. Similarities and differences to the point-particle Klein-Gordon limit and to the quantum mechanical case are elaborated. Model predictions for the two-photon decay rates in the covariant mixing scheme are indicated.
The constituent nature of candidate gluonic mesons can be studied by comparing their production in quark and gluon jets. The production rate for such mesons depends on the colour confinement processes at the end of the perturbative evolution. Whereas we expect enhanced production of hybrids in the fragmentation region of a gluon jet, the rate for glueballs depends on the relative importance of colour triplet and colour octet neutralization. These neutralization processes can be studied independently in events with large rapidity gaps. If octet processes turn out important the recently suggeste…
Two interconnected fields of interest are suggested for NICA. Firstly, existence of glueballs is predicted by the theory of strong interaction but -- even after decades of research -- glueball identification in the physical spectrum is still unclear. NICA can help to ascertain experimental glueball candidates via J/Psi decays whose yield is expected to be large. Importance of glueballs is not limited to vacuum: since they couple to other meson states, glueballs can also be expected to influence signatures of chiral-symmetry restoration in the high-energy phase of strong dynamics. Mass shifting…
An effective meson Lagrangian including a scalar glueball is constructed on the base of $U(3)\times U(3)$ chiral symmetry. The glueball is introduced into the meson Lagrangian by using the principle of scale invariance of an effective Lagrangian and the dilaton model. The singlet-octet mixing of scalar meson states is described by means of 't Hooft interaction. The contribution of the scalar and pseudoscalar anomalies into the breaking of scale invariance is taken into account. The mixing of quarkonia with the glueball is described. The mass spectrum of scalar mesons together with the glueball…
Recent results concerning the evidence and classification of the J^{PC}=0^{++} states, obtained with P. Minkowski, are presented: The isoscalars f_0(980) and f_0(1500) are classified as members of the 0^{++} nonet, while the broad state called f_0(400-1200) and the state f_0(1370) are considered as different components of a single broad resonance, the lowest-lying 0^{++} glueball. Furthermore, we propose the investigation of glueball production in the fragmentation region of gluon jets.
A phenomenological analysis of the scalar glueball and scalar meson spectra is carried out by using the AdS/QCD framework in the bottom-up approach. The resulting spectra are in good agreement for glueballs with lattice QCD results and for mesons with PDG data. We make use of the relation between the mode functions in AdS/QCD and the wave functions in Light-Front $QCD$ to discuss the mixing of glueballs and mesons. The results of our investigation point out that above 2 GeV scalar particles will appear in almost degenerate pairs of unmixed glueball and mesons states leading to an interesting p…
On the basis of a simultaneous description of the isoscalar s-wave channel of the $ππ$ scattering (from the threshold up to 1.9 GeV) and of the $ππ\to K\bar{K}$ process (from the threshold to $\sim$ 1.4 GeV) in the model-independent approach, a confirmation of the $σ$-meson at $\sim$ 660 MeV and an indication for the glueball nature of the $f_0(1500)$ state are obtained.
We consider glueball- (hybrid) meson mixing for the low-lying four pseudovector states. The h_1'(1380) decays dominantly to K*K with some presence in rho pi and omega eta. The newly observed h_1(1600) has a D- to S-wave width ratio to omega eta which makes its interpretation as a conventional meson unlikely. We predict the decay pattern of the isopartner conventional or hybrid meson b_1(1650). A notably narrow s sbar partner h_1'(1810) is predicted.
The graviton soft wall model (GSW) provides a unified description of the scalar glueball and meson spectra with a unique energy scale. This success has led us to extend the analysis to the description of the spectra of other hadrons. We use this model to calculate masses of the odd and even ground states of glueballs for various spins, and show that the GSW model is able to reproduce the Regge trajectory of these systems. In addition, the spectra of the $ρ$, $a_1$ and the $η$ mesons will be addressed. Results are in excellent agreement with current experimental data.Furthermore such an achieve…
The spectrum of two-particle bound states is investigated within a relativistic quantum-field model of interacting quarks and gluons confined analytically. The hadronization process of mesons and glueballs is described by using the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Provided by a minimal set of physical parameters (the quark masses, the coupling constant and the confinement scale), the model satisfactorily describes the meson ground-states, orbital and radial excitations in a wide range from $140 {\rm MeV}$ to $9.5 {\rm GeV}$. The estimated values for the coupling constant and the lowest-state glueball …
In our phenomenological analysis of the spectroscopy of light scalar mesons we do not find compelling evidence for the existence of the low mass κ(900) or σ(600) states nor for f_0(1370) as single resonance. If the f_0(980) and and f_0(1500) are taken as members of the q qbar nonet there remains a broad object formed by f_0(400-1200) and f_0(1370) which is a glueball candidate gb(1000).
The heaviness of the glueball mass scale is suggested as the source of the OZI rule at low energy. The $J/ψ\to ρπ$ decay "anomaly" implies the vector glueball $O$ has mass $m_O \approx m_{J/ψ}$. Such a heavy mass is supported by other glueball studies. Glueball-meson matrix elements turn out to be not suppressed at all at the 1 GeV scale, and a simple and intuitive picture emerges which is consistent with the Gell-Mann-Okubo mass formula as well as the measured sign of $ϕ$-$ω$ mixing. The suppression of glueball mediated $\bar q_iq_i \longleftrightarrow \bar q_jq_j$ transitions and the cancell…
In heavy ion collision simulations many hadron states and/or parton degrees of freedom are included in order to obtain the observables. Meson spectroscopy, for example, considers the $0^{++}$ meson as a mixture of $q\bar{q}$ and glue. This fact is usually not considered in heavy ion collision physics. In the present work we consider two extreme possibilities for the constitution of the $0^{++}$ meson, either as a pure glueball or as $q\bar{q}$-meson. The scattering amplitude and cross-sections with constituent interchange are determined for the two situations. The comparison showed that the gl…
The effective QCD Hamiltonian is constructed with the help of the background perturbation theory, and relativistic Feynman--Schwinger path integrals for Green's functions. The resulting spectrum displays mass gaps of the order of one GeV, when additional valence gluon is added to the bound state. Mixing between meson, hybrid, and glueball states is defined in two ways: through generalized Green's functions and via modified Feynman diagram technic giving similar answers. Results for mixing matrix elements are numerically not large (around 0.1 GeV) and agree with earlier analytic estimates and l…
QCD theory predicts the existence of glueballs, but so far all experimental endeavors have failed to identify any such states. To remedy this discrepancy between QCD, which has proven to be a successful theory for strong interactions, and the failure of experimental searches for glueballs, one is tempted to accept the promising interpretation that the glueballs mix with regular $q\bar q$ states of the same quantum numbers. The lattice estimate of the masses of pure $0^{++}$ glueballs ranges from 1 to 2 GeV, which is the region of the $f_0$ family. Thus many authors suggest that the $f_0$ meson…
An effective chiral lagrangian of order $p^2$, describing the interaction of light pseudoscalar (PS) mesons with $η'$-meson and PS-glueball, has been determined taking into consideration the renorm-group requirements imposed by QCD renormalization. It is shown that the interpolating fields for the lowest singlet quarkic and gluonic states, $η^0$ and $η^G$, may be involved into the effective theory to be renorm-invariant objects not mixing due to QCD renormalization. It is established that the potential describing the ``mass'' term of the lagrangian does not depend on $η^0$. The dependence on $…
We study scalar glueballs and scalar mesons at $T \neq 0$ in the soft wall holographic QCD model. We find that, using the Anti-de Sitter-Black Hole metric for all values of the temperature, the masses of the hadronic states decrease and the widths become broader when T increases, and there are temperatures for which the states disappear from the scalar glueball and scalar meson spectral functions. However, the values of the temperatures in correspondence of which such phenomena occur are low, of the order of 40-60 MeV. A consistent holographic description of in-medium effects on hadron propert…
A chiral field theory of $0^{-+}$ glueball is presented. By adding a $0^{-+}$ glueball field to a successful Lagrangian of chiral field theory of pseudoscalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons, the Lagrangian of this theory is constructed. The couplings between the pseodoscalar glueball field and mesons are via U(1) anomaly revealed. Qualitative study of the physical processes of the $0^{-+}$ glueball of $m=1.405\textrm{GeV}$ is presented. The theoretical predictions can be used to identify the $0^{-+}$ glueball.
It is shown that new data on the $(J^{PC}=2^{++})$-resonances in the mass range $M\sim1700-2400 $MeV support the linearity of the $(n,M^2)$-trajectories, where $n$ is the radial quantum number of quark--antiquark state. In this way all vacancies for the isoscalar tensor $q\bar q$-mesons in the range up to 2450 MeV are filled in. This allows one to fix the broad $f_2$-state with $M=2000\pm30 $MeV and $Γ=530\pm40 $MeV as the lowest tensor glueball. PACS numbers: 14.40.-n, 12.38.-t, 12.39.-Mk
We provide a new, independent, and analytic estimate of the lowest glueball mass, and we found it at 1661 MeV within a relativistic quantum-field model based on analytic confinement. The conventional mesons and the weak decay constants are described to extend the consideration. For the spectra of two-gluon and two-quark bound states we solve the ladder Bethe-Salpeter equation. By using a minimal set of model parameters (the quark masses, the coupling constant, and the confinement scale) we obtain numerical results which are in reasonable agreement with experimental evidence in the wide range o…
Glueball candidates and qqbar mesons have been found to be produced with different momentum and angular dependences in the central region of pp collisions. This talk illustrates this phenomenon and explains the phi and t dependences of mesons with JPC = 0++,0-+, 1++, 2++ and 2-+. For production of 0++ and 2++ mesons the analysis reveals a systematic behaviour in the data that appears to distinguish between qqbar and non-qqbar or glueball candidates. An explanation is given for the absence of 0-+ glueball candidates in central production at present energies and the opportunity for their discove…
A generalization of the chiral effective lagrangian of order $p^2$ is proposed which involves the $η'$-meson, its excitation, and the pseudoscalar (PS) glueball. Model-independent constraints are found for the contributions to the lagrangian of the above singlet states. Those allow one to independently identify the nature of these singlet states in the framework of the approach. The mixing among the iso-singlet states (including $η^8$-state) is analysed, and the hierarchy of the mixing angles is described which is defined by the chiral and large-$N_c$ expansions. The recent PCAC results are re…
We present the new developments in the physics of XYZ mesons and glueballs and discuss the connection between properties of the $XYZ$ mesons and glueballs, and the structure of the QCD vacuum. It is shown that the mixing between quark and gluon degree of freedoms induced by the nontrivial topological structure of the QCD vacuum might affect strongly the properties of the exotic hadrons. A new interpretation of the $XYZ$ mesons as the mixing between radial excitations of light quark-antiquark systems and states with heavy quark content is suggested. We introduce also a new mechanism of quarkoni…
Scalar glueball is implemented in single nonet linear sigma model (SNLSM) which basically includes lowest lying scalar and pseudoscalar mesons. Our new version of SNLSM involves mixing among scalar matter fields and glueball field which is enforced by scale symmetry considerations and the associated anomaly. Performing iterative Monte Carlo simulations, it is found that among the three candidates of scalar glueball, i.e., $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$, only $f_0(1500)$ is predominately a glueball state with the mass prediction of $1.566 \pm 0.046$ GeV and the other two are predomina…
Recently the D$^+$ charm meson was observed to have a clear branching ratio into the low energy $π-π$ sigma resonance, while this channel was not detected in the D$_s^+$ decay. It is shown that this is consistent with the standard treatment of exclusive charm meson decays and a proposed glueball/sigma picture.
According to the QCD expectations the lightest glueball should be a scalar particle (J^{PC}=0^{++}). Different scenarios have been considered for a classification of these states but -- despite considerable progress in recent years -- the experimental basis for various parameters is still rather weak. We present a new analysis of the elastic and charge exchange pi pi scattering between 1000 and 1800 MeV. A unique solution is selected which shows clear evidence for f_0(1500) and a broad state (σor ``f_0(1000)''), but there is no evidence for f_0(1370) at a level of \gtrsim 10% branching ratio t…
In the framework of the so-called extended linear sigma model (eLSM), we include a pseudoscalar glueball with a mass of 2.6 GeV (as predicted by Lattice-QCD simulations) and we compute the two- and three-body decays into scalar and pseudoscalar mesons. This study is relevant for the future PANDA experiment at the FAIR facility. As a second step, we extend the eLSM by including the charm quark according to the global $U(4)_R \times U(4)_L$ chiral symmetry. We compute the masses, weak decay constants and strong decay widths of open charmed mesons. The precise description of the decays of open ch…
The phenomena of strong running coupling and hadron mass generating have been studied in the framework of a QCD-inspired relativistic model of quark-gluon interaction with infrared confined propagators. We derived a meson mass equation and revealed a specific new behaviour of the mass-dependent strong coupling $\hatα_s(M)$ defined in the time-like region. A new infrared freezing point $\hatα_s(0)=1.03198$ at origin has been found and it did not depend on the confinement scale $Λ>0$. Independent and new estimates on the scalar glueball mass, 'radius' and gluon condensate value have been perform…
A coupled-channel analysis of BESIII data on radiative $J/ψ$ decays into $ππ$, $K\bar K$, $ηη$ and $ωϕ$ has been performed. The partial-wave amplitude is constrained by a large number of further data. The analysis finds ten isoscalar scalar mesons. Their masses, widths and decay modes are determined. The scalar mesons are interpreted as mainly SU(3)-singlet and mainly octet states. Octet isoscalar scalar states are observed with significant yields only in the 1500-2100\,MeV mass region. Singlet scalar mesons are produced over a wide mass range but their yield peaks in the same mass region. The…
Regge trajectories of quark-antiquark mesons can be well approximated for phenomenology purposes by a specific nonlinear form, reflecting that the flux tubes cannot be arbitrarily large, but break due to the effect of pair-production. If confirmed, this would imply that there is only a finite number of bound states on each trajectory, and consequently, an existence of ``spectroscopy windows'' for each flavor. Here we present our results for these windows.
We discuss states in the meson spectrum which have explicit gluonic components. Glueballs (with no valence quarks) and hybrid mesons (with valence quarks) are both reviewed. We present in some detail lattice simulation results. ( to appear in proceedings of QCD-20 years, Aachen Workshop)
We investigate the hadronic two-body decay modes of the scalar-isoscalar $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$ states as resulting from the mixture of the lowest lying scalar glueball with the isoscalar states of the ground state $^3P_0$ $Q\bar Q$ nonet. In the decay analysis we take into account the direct coupling of the quarkonia and glueball components of the $f_0$ states to the quarkonia components of the two-meson final state with the decay dynamics inspired by the strong coupling limit of QCD. We calculate partial decay widths for the $f_0$ states in the proposed three-state mixing s…
