R. Wang (Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science, vol. 19(3), 2017) proposed the following problem.
\textbf{Problem.} Let $D$ be a strongly connected balanced bipartite directed graph of order $2a\geq 8$. Suppose that $d(x)\geq 2a-k$, $ d(y)\geq a+k$ or $d(y)\geq 2a-k$, $ d(x)\geq a+k$ for every pair of vertices $x,y$ with a common out-neighbour, where $2 \leq k\leq a/2$. Is $D$ Hamiltonian?
In this paper, we prove that if a digraph $D$ satisfies the conditions of this problem, then
(i) $D$ contains a cycle factor,
(ii) for every vertex $x\in V(D)$ there exists a vertex $y\in V(D)$ such that $x$ and $y$ have a common out-neighbour.
We prove several new sufficient conditions for hamiltonicity and bipancyclicity in balanced bipartite digraphs, in terms of sums of degrees over dominating or dominated pairs of vertices.
We prove a sharp Meyniel-type criterion for hamiltonicity of a balanced bipartite digraph: For k greater than or equal to 2, a bipartite digraph D with colour classes of cardinalities k is hamiltonian if the sum of degrees of vertices u and v is at least 3k+1 for every pair of vertices u, v such that D does not contain the arc uv nor vu. As a consequence, we obtain a sharp sufficient condition for hamiltonicity in terms of the minimal degree: a balanced bipartite digraph D on 2k vertices is hamiltonian if its minimal degree is at least (3k + 1)/2.
We prove that a strongly connected balanced bipartite digraph $D$ of order $2a$ is hamiltonian, provided $a\geq3$ and $d(x)+d(y)\geq 3a$ for every pair of vertices $x$, $y$ with a common in-neighbour or a common out-neighbour in $D$.
The symmetric group is generated by σ = (1 2 ... n) and τ = (1 2). We answer an open problem of Nijenhuis and Wilf by constructing a Hamilton path in the directed Cayley graph for all n, and a Hamilton cycle for odd n.
In his seminal paper from 1952 Dirac showed that the complete graph on $n\geq 3$ vertices remains Hamiltonian even if we allow an adversary to remove $\lfloor n/2\rfloor$ edges touching each vertex. In 1960 Ghouila-Houri obtained an analogue statement for digraphs by showing that every directed graph on $n\geq 3$ vertices with minimum in- and out-degree at least $n/2$ contains a directed Hamilton cycle. Both statements quantify the robustness of complete graphs (digraphs) with respect to the property of containing a Hamilton cycle. A natural way to generalize such results to arbitrary graphs (…
A generalized de Bruijn digraph generalizes a de Bruijn digraph to the case where the number of vertices need not be a pure power of an integer. Hamiltonian cycles in these digraphs thus generalize regular de~Bruijn cycles, and we will thus refer to them simply as de Bruijn cycles. We define the cross-join to be the graph with all de Bruijn cycles as vertices, there is an edge between two of these vertices if one can be obtained from the other via a cross-join operation. We show that the cross-join graph is connected. This in particular means that any regular de Bruijn cycle can be cross-joine…
Arc-locally semicomplete and arc-locally in-semicomplete digraphs were introduced by Bang-Jensen as a common generalization of both semicomplete and semicomplete bipartite digraphs in 1993. Later, Bang-Jensen (2004), Galeana-Sanchez and Goldfeder (2009) and Wang and Wang (2009) provided a characterization of strong arc-locally semicomplete digraphs. In 2009, Wang and Wang characterized strong arc-locally in-semicomplete digraphs. In 2012, Galeana-Sanchez and Goldfeder provided a characterization of all arc-locally semicomplete digraphs which generalizes some results by Bang-Jensen. In this pap…
We prove a sharp Ore-type criterion for hamiltonicity of balanced bipartite digraphs: A bipartite digraph D, with colour classes of cardinality N, is hamiltonian if, for every pair of vertices u and v from opposite colour classes of D such that the arc uv is not in D, the sum of the outdegree of u and the indegree of v is greater than or equal to N+2.
Let $\vec C_m$ and $\vec C_n$ be directed cycles of length $m$ and $n$, with $m,n \ge 3$, and let $P(\vec C_m \mathbin{\Box} \vec C_n)$ be the digraph that is obtained from the Cartesian product $\vec C_m \mathbin{\Box} \vec C_n$ by choosing a vertex $v$, and reversing the orientation of all four directed edges that are incident with $v$. (This operation is called "pushing" at the vertex $v$.) By applying a special case of unpublished work of S.X.Wu, we find elementary number-theoretic necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a hamiltonian cycle in $P(\vec C_m \mathbin{\Box} \v…

The energy and iota energy of signed digraphs are respectively defined as the sum of absolute values of real parts and sum of absolute values of imaginary parts of its eigenvalues. Recently, Yang and Wang (2018) find the energy and iota energy ordering of digraphs in D(n) and compute the maximal energy and iota energy, where D(n) denotes the set of vertex-disjoint bicyclic digraphs of a fixed order n. In this paper, we investigate the energy ordering of signed digraphs in D(n,s) and finds the maximal energy, where D(n,s) denotes the set of vertex-disjoint bicyclic sidigraphs of a fixed order n…
We prove two sharp sufficient conditions for hamiltonian cycles in balanced bipartite directed graph. Let $D$ be a strongly connected balanced bipartite directed graph of order $2a$. Let $x,y$ be distinct vertices in $D$. $\{x,y\}$ dominates a vertex $z$ if $x\rightarrow z$ and $y\rightarrow z$; in this case, we call the pair $\{x,y\}$ dominating. (i) {\it If $a\geq 4$ and $max \{d(x), d(y)\}\geq 2a-1$ for every dominating pair of vertices $\{x,y\}$, then either $D$ is hamiltonian or $D$ is isomorphic to one exceptional digraph of order eight.} (ii) {\it If $a\geq 5$ and $d(x)+d(y)\geq 4a-3$ f…
In the directed detour problem one is given a digraph $G$ and a pair of vertices $s$ and~$t$, and the task is to decide whether there is a directed simple path from $s$ to $t$ in $G$ whose length is larger than $\mathsf{dist}_{G}(s,t)$. The more general parameterized variant, directed long detour, asks for a simple $s$-to-$t$ path of length at least $\mathsf{dist}_{G}(s,t)+k$, for a given parameter $k$. Surprisingly, it is still unknown whether directed detour is polynomial-time solvable on general digraphs. However, for planar digraphs, Wu and Wang~[Networks, '15] proposed an $\mathcal{O}(n^3…
We provide asymptotic formulae for the numbers of bipartite graphs with given degree sequence, and of loopless digraphs with given in- and out-degree sequences, for a wide range of parameters. Our results cover medium range densities and close the gaps between the results known for the sparse and dense ranges. In the case of bipartite graphs, these results were proved by Greenhill, McKay and Wang in 2006 and by Canfield, Greenhill and McKay in 2008, respectively. Our method also essentially covers the sparse range, for which much less was known in the case of loopless digraphs. For the range o…
