Pomset automata are an operational model of weak bi-Kleene algebra, which describes programs that can fork an execution into parallel threads, upon completion of which execution can join to resume as a single thread. We characterize a fragment of pomset automata that admits a decision procedure for language equivalence. Furthermore, we prove that this fragment corresponds precisely to series-rational expressions, i.e., rational expressions with an additional operator for bounded parallelism. As a consequence, we obtain a new proof that equivalence of series-rational expressions is decidable.
There has been a growing interest in defining models of automata enriched with time, such as finite automata extended with clocks (timed automata). In this paper, we study deterministic timed finite state machines (TFSMs), i.e., finite state machines with a single clock, timed guards and timeouts which transduce timed input words into timed output words. We solve the problem of equivalence checking by defining a bisimulation from timed FSMs to untimed ones and viceversa. Moreover, we apply these bisimulation relations to build the intersection of two timed finite state machines by untiming the…
In this paper, we introduce the model of quantum Mealy machines and study the equivalence checking and minimisation problems of them. Two efficient algorithms are developed for checking equivalence of two states in the same machine and for checking equivalence of two machines. As an application, they are used in equivalence checking of quantum circuits. Moreover, the minimisation problem is proved to be in $\textbf{PSPACE}$.

The problem of checking whether two programs are semantically equivalent or not has a diverse range of applications, and is consequently of substantial importance. There are several techniques that address this problem, chiefly by constructing a product program that makes it easier to derive useful invariants. A novel addition to these is a technique that uses alignment predicates to align traces of the two programs, in order to construct a program alignment automaton. Being guided by predicates is not just beneficial in dealing with syntactic dissimilarities, but also in staying relevant to t…
