The two-photon-exchange (TPE) effects in the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow π^+π^-$ at large momentum transfer are discussed within the perturbative QCD (pQCD). The contributions from the twist-2 and twist-3 distribution amplitudes (DAs) of pion are considered in the estimation. Different with the results under the one-photon-exchange (OPE) approximation, the TPE effects result in an asymmetry of the differential cross section on the scattering angle. The precise measurement of this asymmetry by the further experiment is an precise test of pQCD at large momentum transfer. The time-like electromagnetic form factor of pion at the leading order of pQCD is re-discussed and the comparison of our results with those in the references are presented.
We report on ongoing work to determine the pion-cloud contribution to the electromagnetic $N\rightarrowΔ$ transition form factors. The starting point is an $SU(6)$ spin-flavor symmetric constituent-quark model with instantaneous confinement that is augmented by dynamical pions which couple directly to the quarks. This system is treated in a relativistically invariant way within the framework of point-form quantum mechanics using a multichannel formulation. The first step is to determine the electromagnetic form factors of the bare particles that consist only of three quarks. These form factors…
The pion electromagnetic form factor is calculated at lower and higher momentum transfer in order to explore constituent quark models and the differences among those models. In particular, the light-front constituent quark model is utilized here to calculate the pion electromagnetic form factor at lower and higher energies. The matrix elements of the electromagnetic current, are calculated with both "plus" and "minus" components of the electromagnetic current in the light-front. Further, the electromagnetic form factor is compared with other models in the literature and experimental data.
We present detailed numerical results for the pion space-like electromagnetic form factor obtained within a recently proposed model of the pion electromagnetic current in a confining light-front QCD-inspired model. The model incorporates the vector meson dominance mechanism at the quark level, where the dressed photon with $q^+>0$ decay in an interacting quark-antiquark pair, wich absorbs the initial pion and produces the pion in the final state.
Taking into account PDFs obtained by various Collaborations, the momentum transfer dependence of GPDs of the pion are obtained. The calculated electromagnetic and gravitomagnetic form factors of the pions and nucleons are used for the description of the pion-nucleon elastic scattering in a wide energy and momentum transfer region with minimum fitting parameters.
In this work, we analyze the electromagnetic structure of the pion. We calculate its electromagnetic radius and electromagnetic form factor in low and intermediate momentum range. Such observables are determined by means of a theoretical model that takes into account the constituent quark and antiquark of the pion within the formalism of light-front field theory. In particular, we consider a nonsymmetrical vertex in this model, with which we calculate the electromagnetic form factor of the pion in an optimized way, so that we obtain a value closer to the experimental charge radius of the pion.…
The electromagnetic pion form factor, $F_π(q^2)$, is calculated for spacelike-$q^2$ in impulse approximation using a confining quark propagator, $S$, and a dressed quark-photon vertex, $Γ_μ$, obtained from realistic, nonperturbative Dyson-Schwinger equation studies. Good agreement with the available data is obtained for $F_π(q^2)$ and other pion observables, including the decay $π^0 \rightarrow γ\,γ$. This calculation suggests that soft, nonperturbative contributions dominate $F_π(q^2)$ at presently accessible~$q^2$.
The formation of charged pion condensate under parallel electromagnetic fields is studied within the two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The technique of Schwinger proper time method is extended to explore the quantity locating in the off-diagonal flavor space, i.e., charged pion. We obtain the associated effective potential as a function of the strength of the electromagnetic fields and find out that it contains a sextic term which possibly induce weakly first order phase transition. Dependence of pion condensation on model parameters is investigated.
Temperature effects on the electromagnetic couplings of pions in hot hadronic matter are studied with an effective chiral Lagrangian. We show that the Ward-Takahashi identity is satisfied at non-zero temperature in the soft pion limit. The in-medium electromagnetic form factor of the pion is obtained in the time-like region and shown to be reduced in magnitude, especially near the vector-meson resonance region. Finally, we discuss the consequences of this medium effect on dilepton production from hot hadronic matter.
We estimate the effect of the spectator-induced electromagnetic interaction on the directed flow of charged pions. For intermediate centrality Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=7.7$~GeV, we demonstrate that the electromagnetic interaction between spectator charges and final state pions results in charge splitting of positive and negative pion directed flow. Such a charge splitting is visible in the experimental data reported by the STAR Collaboration. The magnitude of this charge splitting appears to strongly depend on the actual distance between the pion emission site (pion at freeze-out) an…
We investigate restrictions on the hadronic contribution to the muon $(g-2)$ factor and to the pion electromagnetic formfactor from the analytical properties of the pion formfactor and the experimental data of the pion formfactor in the space-like [1] region. The values of the pion formfactor of [1] have been improved (see Table 1) and the values of the pion formfactor have been calculated at 20 additional points (see Table 2).
Hadron tomography can be investigated by three-dimensional structure functions such as generalized parton distributions (GPDs), transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions, and generalized distribution amplitudes (GDAs). Here, we extract the GDAs, which are $s$-$t$ crossed quantities of the GPDs, from cross-section measurements of hadron-pair production process $γ^* γ\rightarrow π^0 π^0$ at KEKB. This work is the first attempt to obtain the GDAs from the actual experimental data. The GDAs are expressed by a number of parameters and they are determined from the data of $γ^* γ\rightarrow …
The off--shell electromagnetic vertex function of pions and kaons is studied in a bosonized Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with a gauge--invariant proper--time cutoff. The slope of the pion form factor with respect to the pion 4--momentum is found to be equal to the on--shell pion charge radius in the chiral limit. The off--shell slope of the $K^0$ form factor is zero, that of the $K^\pm$ about 15\% smaller than that of the pion. We compare our results with those of a recent calculation in chiral perturbation theory.
We examine the axion emission from supernovae with a complete set of relevant axion couplings including the axion-pion-nucleon contact interaction which was ignored in the previous studies. Two processes are affected by the axion-pion-nucleon contact interaction, $π^-+p \rightarrow n + a$ and $n+p\rightarrow n+p+a$, and these processes can be the dominant source of axions for some region in the axion parameter space or in astrophysical conditions encountered inside supernovae. We find that the contact interaction can enhance the axion emissivity of $π^-+p \rightarrow n + a$ by a factor of $2-4…
We present a relativistic formulation of pion loop corrections to the coupling of photons with nucleons on the light-front. Vertex and wave function renormalization constants are computed to lowest order in the pion field, including their nonanalytic behavior in the chiral limit, and studied numerically as a function of the ultraviolet cutoff. Particular care is taken to explicitly verify gauge invariance and Ward-Takahashi identity constraints to all orders in the m_pi expansion. The results are used to compute the chiral corrections to matrix elements of local operators, related to moments o…
We investigate the utility of partially twisted boundary conditions in lattice calculations of meson observables. For dynamical simulations, we show that the pion dispersion relation is modified by volume effects. In the isospin limit, we demonstrate that the pion electromagnetic form factor can be computed on the lattice at continuous values of the momentum transfer. Furthermore, the finite volume effects are under theoretical control for extraction of the pion charge radius.
We have evaluated nucleon and pion electromagnetic form factors using for the first time eigenfunctions of a light-front mass operator, reproducing a large set of energy levels, and constituent quark form factors in the one-body current. The comparison with the experimental data yields valuable information on the electromagnetic structure of light constituent quarks and on the different role played by their Dirac and Pauli form factors.
Within the multiple scattering formulation, the incoherent pion production in neutrino-deuteron reactions at energies near the $Δ(1232)$ resonance is investigated. The calculations include an impulse term and one-loop contributions from nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) and pion-nucleon ($πN$) final state interactions. The input amplitudes of $πN$ scattering and electroweak pion production reaction on nucleon are generated from a dynamical model which describes very extensive data of $πN$ scattering and both the electromagnetic and the weak pion production reactions on the nucleon. The $NN$ scattering am…
A phenomenological Dyson-Schwinger equation approach to QCD, formalised in terms of a QCD based model field theory, is used to calculate the electromagnetic charge radius of the pion. The contributions from the quark core and pion loop, as defined in this approach, are identified and compared. It is shown explicitly that the divergence of the charge radius in the chiral limit is due to the pion loop and that, at the physical value of the pion mass, this loop contributes less than 15\% to $\langle r^2_π\rangle$; i.e. the quark core is the dominant determining characteristic for the pion. This s…
The frame dependence of the pair-term contribution to the electromagnetic form factor of the pion is studied within the Light Front approach. A symmetric ansatz for the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude with a pseudo scalar coupling of the constituent to the pion field is used. In this model, the pair term vanishes for the Drell-Yan condition, while it is dominant for momentum transfer along the light-front direction.
We calculate the electromagnetic corrections needed to obtain isospin invariant hadronic pion-pion s-wave scattering lengths a^0, a^2 from the elements a_cc, a_0c of the s-wave scattering matrix for the (π^+ π^-, π^0 π^0) system at the π^+ π^- threshold. These elements can be extracted from experiments on pionium. Our calculation uses energy independent hadronic pion-pion potentials that satisfactorily reproduce the low-energy phase shifts given by two-loop chiral pertur- bation theory. We also take into account an important relativistic effect whose inclusion influences the corrections consid…
The pion electromagnetic form factor at spacelike momentum transfer is calculated in relativistic impulse approximation using the Covariant Spectator Theory. The same dressed quark mass function and the equation for the pion bound-state vertex function as discussed in the companion paper are used for the calculation, together with a dressed quark current that satisfies the Ward-Takahashi identity. The results obtained for the pion form factor are in agreement with experimental data, they exhibit the typical monopole behavior at high-momentum transfer, and they satisfy some remarkable scaling r…
Nucleon and pion electromagnetic form factors are evaluated in the spacelike region within a light-front constituent quark model, where eigenfunctions of a mass operator, reproducing a large set of hadron energy levels, are adopted and quark form factors are considered in the one-body current. The hadron form factors are sharply affected by the high momentum tail generated in the wave function by the one-gluon-exchange interaction. Useful information on the electromagnetic structure of light constituent quarks can be obtained from the comparison with nucleon and pion experimental data.
We review our studies of spectator-induced electromagnetic (EM) effects on charged pion emission in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. These effects are found to consist in the electromagnetic {charge splitting} of pion directed flow as well as very large distortions in spectra and ratios of produced charged particles. As it emerges from our analysis, they offer sensitivity to the actual distance $d_E$ between the pion formation zone at freeze-out and the spectator matter. As a result, this gives a new possibility of studying the space-time evolution of dense and hot matter created in the…
A new formula for the pion form factor F_pi is proposed which takes into account the pseudoscalar meson loops and the mixing among rho(770), rho(1450), and rho(1700). The expression possesses correct analytical properties and can be used in both timelike and spacelike kinematical regions. The comparison is made with the existing experimental data on F_pi collected by the detectors SND, CMD-2, KLOE, and BaBaR restricted to energies below 1 GeV. A good description of all four data sets is obtained. In the spacelike region, upon substituting the resonance parameters found in the timelike one, the…
We examine the contribution of the pion cloud to the electromagnetic $N \rightarrow Δ$ transition form factors within a relativistic hybrid constituent-quark model. In this model baryons consist not only of the $3q$ valence component, but contain, in addition, a $3 q π$ non-valence component. We start with constituent quarks which are subject to a scalar, isoscalar confining force. This leads to an $SU(6)$ spin-flavor symmetric spectrum with degenerate nucleon and Delta masses. Mass splitting is caused by pions which are assumed to couple directly to the quarks. The point-form of relativistic …
The simultaneous investigation of the pion electromagnetic form factor in the space- and time-like regions within a light-front model allows one to address the issue of non-valence components of the pion and photon wave functions. Our relativistic approach is based on a microscopic vector meson dominance (VMD) model for the dressed vertex where a photon decays in a quark-antiquark pair, and on a simple parametrization for the emission or absorption of a pion by a quark. The results show an excellent agreement in the space like region up to -10 $(GeV/c)^2$, while in time-like region the model p…
The Kroll-Lee-Zumino renormalizable Abelian quantum field theory of pionic strong interactions is used to compute the rho-meson propagator at the two-loop level.
The electric $α_π$ and magnetic $β_π$ charged pion Compton polarizabilities are of fundamental interest in the low-energy sector of quantum chromodynamics (QCD).They are directly linked to the phenomenon of spontaneously broken chiral symmetry within QCD and to the dynamics of the pion-photon interaction. The combination ($α_π-β_π$) was measured by:(1) CERN COMPASS via radiative pion Primakoff scattering (Bremsstrahlung) in the nuclear Coulomb field, $π^- Z \rightarrow π^-Z γ$, (2) SLAC PEP Mark-II via two-photon production of pion pairs, $γγ\rightarrowπ^+π^-$, and (3) Mainz Microtron via radia…
The $η'$ meson is associated with the U(1) anomaly. In this paper, a successful effective chiral theory of mesons has been applied to study the anomalous decay of $η'\rightarrow π^+π^-π^{+(0)}π^{-(0)}$. In this study, the contributions of triangle and box anomalies are calculated. It is shown that the contribution of box diagrams is important in this process. We predict branching ratios of $Br(η' \rightarrow π^+ π^- π^+ π^-)={1 \over 2}Br(η' \rightarrow π^+ π^- π^0 π^0) = (8.3 \pm 1.2) \times 10^{-5}$, which is in good agreement with BESIII measurement.
The light-front approach is applied to calculate the electromagnetic current for quark-antiquark bound states for the pion. The pion electromagnetic form factor is obtnaide from the "+" and "-" components of the electromagnetic current in the Drell-Yan frame, with different models of the pi-q\bar{q} vertex and the results for the pion electromagnetic form factor are compared with the experimental data up to 10 [GeV/c]^2 and anothers hadronic models. The rotational symmetry propreties of the pion electromagnetic current related with the zero-modes in the light-front are investigate.
The quark flavor sector of the Standard Model is a fertile ground to look for new physics effects through a unitarity test of the Cabbibo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix. We present a lattice QCD calculation of the scalar and the vector form factors (over a large $q^2$ region including $q^2 = 0$) associated with the $D \rightarrow Klν$ semi-leptonic decay. This calculation will then allow us to determine the central CKM matrix element, $V_{cs}$ in the Standard Model, by comparing the lattice QCD results for the form factors and the experimental decay rate. This form factor calculation has been …
In the paper nucl-ex/0010009 by The Jefferson Lab F_pi Collaboration the new results for the charged pion electromagnetic form factor are presented. The approach given in our paper hep-ph/9811318, "On a possible estimation of the constituent--quark parameters from Jefferson Lab experiments on the pion form factor" makes it possible to estimate the mass of constituent quark from such kind of experiment. Now this estimation gives M=0.21 GeV.
A model is developed for electromagnetic form factor of the pion. One-loop corrections are included in the linear sigma-model. The rho-meson contribution is added in an extended VMD model. The form factor, calculated without fitting parameters, is in a good agreement with experiment for space-like and time-like photon momenta. Loop corrections to the two-pion hadronic contribution a^{(had, π)}_μto the muon anomalous magnetic moment are calculated. The optimal value of the sigma-meson mass appears to be close to the rho-meson mass.
We show that we are able to extract the pion electromagnetic form factor by using the recent charged pion electroproduction data from JLab and a simple t-channel diagram. For this purpose we have performed the Q2-independent and dependent analyses. The result of the first analysis is in good agreement with those of previous works and fit the Maris and Tandy model as well as the monopole parameterization which describes a pion radius of 0.672 fm. The result of the second analysis corroborates the findings in the first analysis. Our findings therefore provide a direct proof that at the given kin…
The suggestion of momentum dependence in the amplitude for rho-omega mixing has generated concern over related implications for vector meson dominance and the photon-rho coupling. We discuss two established representations of vector meson dominance and show that one of these is completely consistent with such a coupling. We then apply it to a calculation of the pion electromagnetic form-factor. Our analysis leads to a new value for the on-shell rho-omega mixing amplitude of (-3800 +/- 370) MeV^2.
We present the results on P11 resonances obtained with Dubna-Mainz-Taipei (DMT) dynamical model for pion-nucleon scattering and pion electromagnetic production. The extracted values agree well, in general, with PDG values. One pole is found corresponding to the Roper resonance and two more resonances are definitely needed in DMT model. We further find indication for a narrow P11 resonance at around 1700 MeV with a width of around 50 MeV in both pi-N and gamma-pi reactions.
The electric $α_π$ and magnetic $β_π$ charged pion Compton polarizabilities are of fundamental interest in the low-energy sector of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). They characterize the induced dipole moments of the pion during $γπ$ Compton scattering. Pion polarizabilities affect the shape of the $γπ$ Compton scattering angular distribution. The combination $(α_π - β_π)$ was measured by: (1) CERN COMPASS via $π Z \rightarrow π Z γ$ radiative pion Primakoff scattering in the nuclear Coulomb field, (2) SLAC PEP Mark-II via two-photon production of pion pairs, $γ γ \rightarrow π^+ π^-$, and (3) Mai…
We study the self-energy amplitudes for the rho-omega meson system produced by an effective field theory model at the quark level characterized by a finite range quark-quark interaction and an isospin breaking bare quark mass difference $m_u - m_d$. Dynamical effects associated with confinement and dressing of quarks and the finite size of the produced $\bar{q}q$ meson modes are treated. Parameters of this approach, previously constrained by soft pion physics, are here supplemented in a minimal way to reproduce $m_ω$ and $g_{ρππ}$. Calculations are carried out up to the one pion loop level and…
We study the octet baryon electromagnetic properties by applying the covariant spectator quark model, and provide covariant parametrization that can be used to study baryon electromagnetic reactions. While we use the lattice QCD data in the large pion mass regime (small pion cloud effects) to determine the parameters of the model in the valence quark sector, we use the nucleon physical and octet baryon magnetic moment data to parameterize the pion cloud contributions. The valence quark contributions for the octet baryon electromagnetic form factors are estimated by extrapolating the lattice pa…
We estimate the electromagnetic effect of the spectator charge on the momentum spectra of $π^+$ and $π^-$ produced in peripheral Pb+Pb collisions at SPS energies. We find that the effect is large and results in strongly varying structures in the $x_F$ dependence of the $π^+/π^-$ ratio, especially at low transverse momenta where a deep valley in the above ratio is predicted at $x_F \sim$ 0.15 -- 0.20. It appears that the effect depends on initial conditions. Thus, it provides new information on the space and time evolution of the non-perturbative pion creation process.
Using the upper bound on the effective number of light neutrino species during primordial nucleosynthesis and the cosmological pion-pole mechanism $γγ\rightarrow π^0\rightarrow γX$, we obtain an upper limit on the branching ratio for the decay BR$(π^0\rightarrow γX)<3\times 10^{-13}$, where $X$ is any long-lived weakly interacting neutral vector particle with mass smaller than the neutral pion mass.
We study the electromagnetic Dalitz decay modes of $J/ψ\rightarrow P l^+l^-$ ($P= π^0$, $η$ or $η^\prime$). In these decays, the lepton pairs are formed by internal conversion of an intermediate virtual photon with invariant mass $m_{l^+l^-}$. Study of the effective-mass spectrum of the $l^+l^-$ will shed light on the dynamic transition form factor $F_{J/ψP}(q^2)$ ($q^2 = m^2_{l^+l^-}$), which characterizes the electromagnetic structure arising at the vertex of the transition $J/ψ$ to pseudoscalars. We also discuss the direct productions of a GeV scale vector $U$ boson in these processes $J/ψ\…
The present contribution continues and extends foregoing work on the calculation of electroweak form factors of hadrons using the point-form of relativistic quantum mechanics. Here we are particularly interested in studying pionic effects on the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon. To this aim we employ a hybrid constituent-quark model that comprises, in addition to the $3q$ valence component, also a $3q$+$π$ non-valence component. With a simple wave function for the $3q$ component we get reasonable results for the nucleon form factors. In accordance with other authors we find that the pi…
We study the electromagnetic form factors of the lowest-lying singly heavy baryons with spin 1/2 within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model, focusing on the comparison with recent lattice data. To compare the present results quantitatively with the lattice data, it is essential to treat the pion mass as a variable parameter, i.e., to employ the unphysical values of the pion mass, which are used in lattice calculations. While the results with the physical value of the pion mass fall off faster than those from the lattice calculations as the momentum transfer increases, the extrapola…
We derive the lowest-order $q\bar q$ valence light-front wave function for the pion with Lz=0 and |Lz|=1, which reproduces its valence parton distribution and the electromagnetic form factor consistent with data.
The holographic QCD prediction for the pion distribution amplitude (DA) $ϕ_{hol}(u)$ is used to compute the pion spacelike electromagnetic form factor $F_π(Q^2)$ within the QCD light-cone sum rule method. In calculations the pion's renormalon-based model twist-4 DA, as well as the asymptotic twist-4 DA are employed. Obtained theoretical predictions are compared with experimental data and with results of the holographic QCD.
The electromagnetic transition properties of the decuplet to octet baryon ($Δ\rightarrow Nγ$) is studied within the frame work of a hypercentral quark model. The confinement potential is assumed as hypercentral coloumb plus linear potential. The transition magnetic moment and transition amplitude $f_{M_1}$ for the $Δ\rightarrow Nγ$ are in agreement with other theoretical predictions. The present result of the radiative decay width is found to be in excellent agreement with the experimental values reported by the particle data group over other theoretical model predictions.
New precise experimental information on $σ_{tot}(e^+e^- \to π^+ π^-)$ is transferred into the space-like region, by taking advantage of the analyticity. As a result a rigorous pion electromagnetic form factor behavior is obtained. The latter with some existing model predictions is compared.
The electromagnetic corrections to the low energy scattering amplitude involving charged pions only are investigated at leading and next-to-leading orders in the two-flavour chiral expansion. As an application, the corresponding variation in the strong $2S-2P$ level shift is evaluated. The relative variation is of the order of 5%.
We derive a master formula for chiral $SU(2)\times SU(2)$ breaking, based on the Veltman-Bell equations and the Peierls-Dyson relation. Our approach does not rely on the use of the soft pion limit or an expansion around the chiral limit, and yields exact results for on-shell pions. Threshold theorems for $πN\rightarrow πN$, $γN\rightarrow πN$, $πN\rightarrowππN$, $γN\rightarrow γπN$, $γN\rightarrow ππN$ and $πN\rightarrow πγN$ are recovered, and corrections to them are given. The reactions $π\rightarrow eνγ$, $π\rightarrow eνe^+e^-$, $γπ\rightarrow γπ$ and $γγ\rightarrow ππ$ are also discussed…
We compute low temperature corrections to the electromagnetic mass difference of pions in the chiral limit. The computation is done in a model independent way in the framework of chiral perturbation theory, using the background field method and the hard thermal loop approximation. We also generalize at low temperature the sum rule of Das et al. We find that the mass difference between the charged and neutral pions decreases at low temperature $T$ with respect to the T=0 value. This is so in spite of the fact that charged particles always get a thermal correction to their masses of order $\sim …
We give the modern derivation of Deser's formula using analytic continuation of the scattering amplitude as a function of momentum. The electromagnetic corrections to the pionium lifetime are given as evaluated in a potential model.
We construct analytic (3+1)-dimensional inhomogeneous and topologically non-trivial pion systems using chiral perturbation theory. We discuss the effect of isospin asymmetry with vanishing electromagnetic interactions as well as some particular configurations with non-vanishing electromagnetic interactions. The inhomogeneous configurations of the pion fields are characterized by a non-vanishing topological charge that can be identified with baryons surrounded by a cloud of pions. This system supports a topologically protected persistent superflow. When the electromagnetic field is turned on th…
We study two versions of lightcone sum rules to calculate the $γ^*γ\rightarrowπ^0$ transition form factor (TFF) within QCD. While the standard version is based on fixed-order perturbation theory by means of a power-series expansion in the strong coupling, the new method incorporates radiative corrections by renormalization-group summation and generates an expansion within a generalized fractional analytic perturbation theory involving only analytic couplings. Using this scheme, we determine the relative nonperturbative parameters and the first two Gegenbauer coefficients of the pion distributi…
We present recent results on finite temperature electromagnetic form factors and the electrical conductivity in a pion gas. The standard Chiral Perturbation Theory power counting needs to be modified for transport coefficients. We pay special attention to unitarity and to possible applications for dilepton and photon production.
The electromagnetic form factor of the pion in the space-like region, and at finite temperature, $F_π(Q^{2},T)$, is obtained from a QCD Finite Energy Sum Rule. The form factor decreases with increasing T, and vanishes at some critical temperature, where the pion radius diverges. This divergence may be interpreted as a signal for quark deconfinement.
