The formation and properties of star clusters formed at the edges of H II regions are poorly known. We study stellar content, physical conditions, and star formation processes around a relatively unknown young H II region IRAS 10427-6032, located in the southern outskirts of the Carina Nebula. We make use of near-IR data from VISTA, mid-IR from Spitzer and WISE, far-IR from Herschel, sub-mm from ATLASGAL, and 843 MHz radio-continuum data. Using multi-band photometry, we find a total of 5 Class I and 29 Class II young stellar object (YSO) candidates, most of which newly identified, in the 5'$\times$5' region centered on the IRAS source position. Modeling of the spectral energy distribution for selected YSO candidates using radiative transfer models shows that most of these candidates are intermediate mass YSOs in their early evolutionary stages. A majority of the YSO candidates are found to be coincident with the cold dense clump at the western rim of the H II region. Lyman continuum luminosity calculation using radio emission indicates the spectral type of the ionizing source to be earlier than B0.5-B1. We identified a candidate massive star possibly responsible for the H II region with an estimated spectral type B0-B0.5. The temperature and column density maps of the region constructed by performing pixel-wise modified blackbody fits to the thermal dust emission using the far-IR data show a high column density shell-like morphology around the H II region, and low column density (0.6 $\times$ 10$^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$) and high temperature ($\sim$21 K) matter within the H II region. Based on the morphology of the region in the ionized and the molecular gas, and the comparison between the estimated timescales of the H II region and the YSO candidates in the clump, we argue that the enhanced star-formation at the western rim of the H II region is likely due to compression by the ionized gas.
We report the discovery of a small aggregate of young stars seen in high-resolution, deep near-infrared ($JHK_S$) images towards IRAS 06345-3023 in the outer Galaxy and well below the mid-plane of the Galactic disc. The group of young stars is likely to be composed of low-mass stars, mostly Class I young stellar objects. The stars are seen towards a molecular cloud whose CO map peaks at the location of the IRAS source. The near-infrared images reveal, additionally, the presence of nebular emission with rich morphological features, including arcs in the vicinity of embedded stars, wisps and bri…
We present new criteria for selecting HII regions from the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) Point Source catalogue (PSC), based on an HII region catalogue derived manually from the all-sky Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE). The criteria are used to augment the number of HII region candidates in the Milky Way. The criteria are defined by the linear decision boundary of two samples: IRAS point sources associated with known HII regions, which serve as the HII region sample, and IRAS point sources at high Galactic latitudes, which serve as the non-HII region sample. A machine learni…
The results of a search for compact clusters in the vicinity of 19 IRAS sources based on data from the GPS UKIDSS and Spitzer GLIMPSE surveys are presented. Overall, clusters have been identified in 15 regions. Clusters are identified for the first time in 4 regions (IRAS 18151-1208, IRAS 18316-0602, 18517+0437, 19110+1045). In 5 regions (IRAS 05168+3634, 05358+3543, IRAS 18507+0121, IRAS 20188+3928, IRAS 20198+3716) the compact groups we have identified are substructures within more extended clusters. The radii of the identified groups and the surface star density are widely scattered with ra…
IRAS 09002-4732 is a poorly studied embedded cluster of stars in the Vela Molecular Ridge at a distance of 1.7kpc. Deep observations with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, combined with existing optical and infrared surveys, produce a catalog of 441 probable pre-main sequence members of the region. The stellar spatial distribution has two components: most stars reside in a rich, compact, elliptical cluster, but a minority reside within a molecular filament several parsecs long that straddles the cluster. The filament has active distributed star formation with dozens of unclustered protostars. The…
We present an analysis of the region IRAS 08589-4714 with the aim of characterizing the molecular environment. We observed the CO(3-2), ^{13}CO(3-2), C^{18}O(3-2), HCO+(3-2), and HCN(3-2) molecular lines in a region of 150" x 150", centered on the IRAS source, to analyze the distribution and characteristics of the molecular gas linked to the IRAS source. The molecular gas distribution reveals a molecular clump that is coincident with IRAS 08589-4714 and with a dust clump detected at 1.2 mm. The molecular clump is 0.45 pc in radius and its mass and H_2 volume density are 310 Mo and 1.2 x 10^4 c…
We present the investigation results of structure and stellar content of a molecular cloud surrounding the five IRAS sources: 05168+3634, 05184+3635, 05177+3636, 05162+3639, and IRAS 05156+3643. Using multi-color criteria, we identified a rich population of embedded YSO candidates with infrared excess (Class 0/I and Class II) and their characteristics in a quite large molecular cloud which is located in the region of 24 arcmin radius. The molecular cloud includes 240 candidates of YSOs within the radii of sub-regions around 5 IRAS sources. The color-magnitude diagrams of the sub-regions sugges…
Complex organic molecules with three carbon atoms are found in the earliest stages of star formation. In particular, propenal (C$_2$H$_3$CHO) is a species of interest due to its implication in the formation of more complex species and even biotic molecules. This study aims to search for the presence of C$_2$H$_3$CHO and other three-carbon species such as propylene (C$_3$H$_6$) in the hot corino region of the low-mass protostellar binary IRAS 16293--2422 to understand their formation pathways. We use ALMA observations in Band 6 and 7 from various surveys to search for the presence of C$_3$H$_6$…
We present a multi-line study of the massive star-forming region IRAS 22506+5944. A new 6.7 GHz methanol maser was detected. 12CO, 13CO, C18O and HCO+ J = 1-0 transition observations reveal a star formation complex consisting mainly of two cores. The dominant core has a mass of more than 200 solar mass, while another one only about 35 solar mass. Both cores are obviously at different evolutionary stages. A 12CO energetic bipolar outflow was detected with an outflow mass of about 15 solar mass.
We present an analysis of HCO+ (J=3-2) and H13CO+ (J=3-2) observations of the massive (M ~ 20 Msun) submm/IR source IRAS 01202+6133 located on the periphery of the HII region KR 120 (Sh 2-187). The HCO+ line profile has a classic blue-asymmetric shape with the optically thin H13CO+ line peaking at the position expected if the HCO+ line arises from a combination of self-absorption and infall motion. We have modified existing analytic radiative transfer models to allow for the fitting of submm/mm line profiles that have both self-absorption features and optically thin wings and applied these mod…
We have analyzed ALMA Cycle 5 data in Band 4 toward three low-mass young stellar objects (YSOs), IRAS 03235+3004 (hereafter IRAS 03235), IRAS 03245+3002 (IRAS 03245), and IRAS 03271+3013 (IRAS 03271), in the Perseus region. The HC$_{3}$N ($J=16-15$; $E_{\rm {up}}/k = 59.4$ K) line has been detected in all of the target sources, while four CH$_{3}$OH lines ($E_{\rm {up}}/k = 15.4-36.3$ K) have been detected only in IRAS 03245. Sizes of the HC$_{3}$N distributions ($\sim 2930-3230$ au) in IRAS 03235 and IRAS 03245 are similar to those of the carbon-chain species in the warm carbon chain chemistr…
We present an analysis of the IRAS 08589-4714 star-forming region. This region harbors candidate young stellar objects identified in the WISE and Herschel images using color index criteria and spectral energy distributions (SEDs). The SEDs of some of the infrared sources and the 70 microns radial intensity profile of the brightest source (IRS 1) are modeled from Herschel fluxes using the one-dimensional radiative transfer DUSTY code. For these objects, we estimate the envelope masses, sizes, densities, and luminosities which suggest that they are very young, massive and luminous objects at ear…
We report the results of a wide field CO mapping in the region of IRAS 19312+1950. This IRAS object exhibits SiO/H$_2$O/OH maser emission, and is embedded in a chemically-rich molecular component, of which the origin is still unknown. In order to reveal the entire structure and gas mass of the surrounding molecular component for the first time, we have mapped a wide region around IRAS 19312+1950 in the $^{12}$CO $J=1-0$, $^{13}$CO $J=1-0$ and C$^{18}$O $J=1-0$ lines using the Nobeyama 45m telescope. In conjunction with the archival CO maps, we investigated a region with a size up to $20' \time…
Aims: We aim to understand the star formation associated with the luminous young stellar object (YSO) IRAS 18345-0641 and to address the complications arising from unresolved multiplicity in interpreting the observations of massive star-forming regions. Methods: New infrared imaging data at sub-arcsec spatial resolution are obtained for IRAS 18345-0641. The new data are used along with mid- and far-IR imaging data, and CO (J=3-2) spectral line maps downloaded from archives to identify the YSO and study the properties of the outflow. Available radiative-transfer models are used to analyze the s…
We observed H$_2$O (6$_{16}$ $\rightarrow$ 5$_{23}$) maser emission associated with the high-mass star-forming region IRAS 23139+5959 using the KaVA a combination of VLBI arrays between the KVN (Korea) and VERA (Japan). Through multi-epoch KaVA observations, we detected three groups of maser features, two of which coincide with those previously detected by the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA). By determining the maser proper motions, we found that the first of maser groups exhibit an expanding motion that traces a wide-angle outflow almost along the line of sight, while the second one see…
We present sensitive 1-3 GHz ATCA radio continuum observations of the hitherto unresolved star forming region known as either IRAS14482-5857 or PMN1452-5910. At radio continuum frequencies, this source is characterised by a "filled-bubble" structure reminiscent of a classical HII region, dominated by three point sources, and surrounded by low-surface-brightness emission out to the $3'\times4'$ source extent observed at other frequencies in the literature. The infrared emission corresponds well to the radio emission, with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon emission surrounding regions of hot dust …
Methyl isocyanate (CH$_{3}$NCO) belongs to a select group of interstellar molecules considered to be relevant precursors in the formation of larger organic compounds, including those with peptide bonds. The molecule has only been detected in a couple of high-mass protostars and potentially on comets. A formation route on icy grains has been postulated for this molecule but experimental evidence is lacking. Here we extend the range of environments where methyl isocyanate is found, and unambiguously identify CH$_{3}$NCO through the detection of 43 unblended transitions in the ALMA Protostellar I…
This study aims to determine the main physical parameters (N(H2) hydrogen column density and Td dust temperature) of the Interstellar medium, and their distribution in the extended star-forming region, which includes IRAS 05156+3643, 05162+3639, 05168+3634, 05177+3636, and 05184+3635 sources. We also provide a comparative analysis of the properties of the Interstellar medium and young stellar objects. Analysis of the results revealed that Interstellar medium forms relativity dense condensations around IRAS sources, which are interconnected by a filament structure. In general, in sub-regions Td…
We report the results of spectroscopic observations and numerical modelling of the H II region IRAS 18153-1651. Our study was motivated by the discovery of an optical arc and two main-sequence stars of spectral type B1 and B3 near the centre of IRAS 18153-1651. We interpret the arc as the edge of the wind bubble (blown by the B1 star), whose brightness is enhanced by the interaction with a photoevaporation flow from a nearby molecular cloud. This interpretation implies that we deal with a unique case of a young massive star (the most massive member of a recently formed low-mass star cluster) c…
We present a comprehensive multiwavelength investigation of a likely massive young cluster `IRAS 05100+3723' and its environment with the aim to understand its formation history and feedback effects. We find that IRAS 05100+3723 is a distant ($\sim$3.2 kpc), moderate mass ($\sim$500 \msun), young ($\sim$3 Myr) cluster with its most massive star being an O8.5V-type. From spectral modeling, we estimate the effective temperature and log $g$ of the star as $\sim$33,000 K and $\sim$3.8, respectively. Our radio continuum observations reveal that the star has ionized its environment forming an HII re…
Aims. We report the discovery of a strong outburst of the embedded young stellar object (YSO), namely UKIDSS-J185318.36+012454.5, located in the star-forming region associated with IRAS 18507+0121 source and GAL 034.4+00.23 HII region. Methods. Using the archival photometric data and images we determined the amplitude and the epoch of the outburst, as well as the evolution stage and the basic parameters of the object. Results. According to the near and mid-infrared colors and spectral energy distribution, we classify the object as an intermediate-mass young stellar object (YSO) with Class 0/I …
The NGC 1333 IRAS 4B region was observed in the 6.9 mm and 1.3 cm continuum with an angular resolution of about 0.4 arcseconds. IRAS 4BI was detected in both bands, and BII was detected in the 6.9 mm continuum only. The 1.3 cm source of BI seems to be a disk-like flattened structure with a size of about 50 AU. IRAS 4BI does not show any sign of multiplicity. Examinations of archival infrared images show that the dominating emission feature in this region is a bright peak in the southern outflow driven by BI, corresponding to the molecular hydrogen emission source HL 9a. Both BI and BII are und…
In order to investigate whether massive stars form similarly to their low-mass counterparts, we have used the standard envelope plus disc geometry successfully applied to low-mass protostars to model the near-IR to sub-millimetre SED and several mid-IR images of the embedded massive star IRAS20126+4104. We have used a Monte Carlo radiative transfer dust code to model the continuum absorption, emission and scattering through two azimuthally symmetric dust geometries, the first consisting of a rotationally flattened envelope with outflow cavities, and the second which also includes a flared accr…
In the direction of l = 17.6 - 19 deg, the star-forming sites Sh 2-53 and IRAS 18223-1243 are prominently observed, and seem to be physically detached from each other. Sh 2-53 has been investigated at the junction of the molecular filaments, while a larger-scale environment of IRAS 18223-1243 remains unexplored. The goal of this paper is to investigate the star formation processes in the IRAS site (area ~0.4 deg x 0.4 deg). Based on the GRS 13CO line data, two molecular clouds, peaking at velocities of 45 and 51 km/s, are found. In the position-velocity plots, a relatively weak 13CO emission i…
IRAS 20050+2720 is young star forming region at a distance of 700 pc without apparent high mass stars. We present results of our multiwavelength study of IRAS 20050+2720 which includes observations by Chandra and Spitzer, and 2MASS and UBVRI photometry. In total, about 300 YSOs in different evolutionary stages are found. We characterize the distribution of young stellar objects (YSOs) in this region using a minimum spanning tree (MST) analysis. We newly identify a second cluster core, which consists mostly of class II objects, about 10 arcmin from the center of the cloud. YSOs of earlier evolu…
We introduce a study of the massive star forming region IRAS 18144--1723 using observations of the 6.7 GHz methanol maser line. Such regions are opaque at short wavelengths but can be observed through radio emission lines. In this study we traced the kinematics of the source on milliarcsecond scales using the Multi-Element-Radio-Interferometer-Network (MERLIN). We found 52 maser spots in the LSR velocity range 45--52 km s$^{-1}$, near the centre of the previously-detected CO range of 21.3--71.3 km s$^{-1}$, lying within $\sim$ 0$''$.5 of IRAS 18144--1723 `B', thought to be a young Class I prot…
Context. Propyne (CH$_3$CCH) has been detected in a variety of environments, from Galactic star-forming regions to extragalactic sources. Such molecules are excellent tracers of the physical conditions in star-forming regions. Aims. This study explores the emission of CH$_3$CCH in the low-mass protostellar binary, IRAS 16293$-$2422, examining the spatial scales traced by this molecule, as well as its formation and destruction pathways. Methods. ALMA observations from the Protostellar Interferometric Line Survey (PILS) are used to determine the abundances and excitation temperatures of CH$_3$CC…
This paper presents a multiwavelength investigation of the Galactic HII IRAS 17149$-$3916. Using the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope, India, first low-frequency radio continuum observations at 610 and 1280 MHz for this region are presented. The ionized gas emission displays an interesting cometary morphology which is likely powered by the early type source, E4 (IRS-1). The origin of the cometary morphology is discussed under the framework of the widely accepted bow shock, champagne flow, and clumpy cloud mechanisms. The mid- and far-infrared data from Spitzer-GLIMPSE and Herschel-Hi-GAL reveal…
IRAS 22134+5834 was observed in the centimeter with (E)VLA, 3~mm with CARMA, 2~mm with PdBI, and 1.3~mm with SMA, to study the continuum emission as well as the molecular lines, that trace different physical conditions of the gas to study the influence of massive YSOs on nearby starless cores, and the possible implications in the clustered star formation process. The multi-wavelength centimeter continuum observations revealed two radio sources within the cluster, VLA1 and VLA2. VLA1 is considered to be an optically thin UCHII region with a size of 0.01~pc and sits at the edge of the near-infra…
We have analyzed the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) cycle 2 data of band 6 toward the G345.4938+01.4677 massive young protostellar object (G345.5+1.47 MYSO) in the IRAS 16562--3959 high-mass star-forming region with an angular resolution of $\sim 0.3"$, corresponding to $\sim 760$ au. We spatially resolve the central region which consists of three prominent molecular emission cores. A hypercompact (HC) H$_{\rm {II}}$ region (Core A) and two molecule-rich cores (Core B and Core C) are identified using the moment zero images of the H30$α$ line and a CH$_{3}$OH line, respecti…
We present the results from Chandra X-ray observations, and near- and mid-infrared analysis, using VISTA/VVV and Spitzer/GLIMPSE catalogs, of the high-mass star-forming region IRAS 16562-3959, which contains a candidate for a high mass protostar. We detected 249 X-ray sources within the ACIS-I field-of-view. The majority of the X-ray sources have low count rates (< 0.638 cts/ks), and hard X-ray spectra. The search for YSOs in the region using VISTA/VVV and Spitzer/GLIMPSE catalogs resulted in a total of 799 YSOs, with 66 Class I and 733 Class II YSOs. The search for near- and mid-infrared coun…
We performed Herschel observations of the continuum and line emission from the high-mass star-forming region IRAS20126+4104, which hosts a well-studied B-type (proto)star powering a bipolar outflow and is associated with a Keplerian circumstellar disk. The continuum images at six wavelengths allowed us to derive an accurate estimate of the bolometric luminosity and mass of the molecular clump enshrouding the disk. The same region has been mapped in 12 rotational transitions of carbon monoxide, which were used in synergy with the continuum data to determine the temperature and density distribut…
Observations of dust polarized emission toward star forming regions trace the magnetic field component in the plane of the sky and provide constraints to theoretical models of cloud collapse. We compare high-angular resolution observations of the submillimeter polarized emission of the low-mass protostellar source NGC 1333 IRAS 4A with the predictions of three different models of collapse of magnetized molecular cloud cores. We compute the Stokes parameters for the dust emission for the three models. We then convolve the results with the instrumental response of the Submillimeter Array observa…
With the aim of studying the properties of Galactic IR bubbles and their impact in massive star formation, we present a study of the IR bubble S169, associated with the massive star forming region IRAS12326-6245. We used CO(2-1),$^{13}$CO(2-1), C$^{18}$O(2-1), HCN(3-2), and HCO+(3-2) line data obtained with the APEX telescope to study the properties of the molecular gas in the nebula and the IRAS source . To analyze the properties and distribution of the dust, we used IRAC-GLIMPSE, Herschel, and ATLASGAL data. The properties of the ionized gas were studied using images obtained from the SUMSS …
The formation mechanism of brown dwarfs (BDs) is one of the long-standing problems in star formation because the typical Jeans mass in molecular clouds is too large to form these substellar objects. To answer this question, it is crucial to study a BD at the embedded phase. IRAS 16253-2429 is classified as a very low luminosity object (VeLLO) with internal luminosity 0.1 Lsun. VeLLOs are believed to be very low-mass protostars or even proto-BDs. We observed the jet/outflow driven by IRAS 16253-2429 in CO (2-1), (6-5), and (7-6) using the IRAM 30 m and APEX telescopes and the SMA in order to st…
A multi-wavelength investigation of the star forming complex IRAS 20286+4105, located in the Cygnus-X region, is presented here. Near-infrared K-band data is used to revisit the cluster / stellar group identified in previous studies. The radio continuum observations, at 610 and 1280 MHz show the presence of a HII region possibly powered by a star of spectral type B0 - B0.5. The cometary morphology of the ionized region is explained by invoking the bow-shock model where the likely association with a nearby supernova remnant is also explored. A compact radio knot with non-thermal spectral index …
We have observed the very low-mass Class 0 protostar IRAS 15398-3359 at scales ranging from 50 au to 1800 au, as part of the ALMA Large Program FAUST. We uncover a linear feature, visible in H2CO, SO, and C18O line emission, which extends from the source along a direction almost perpendicular to the known active outflow. Molecular line emission from H2CO, SO, SiO, and CH3OH further reveals an arc-like structure connected to the outer end of the linear feature and separated from the protostar, IRAS 15398-3359, by 1200 au. The arc-like structure is blue-shifted with respect to the systemic veloc…
Nitrogen (N) fractionation is used as a tool to search for a link between the chemical history of the Solar System and star-forming regions. A large variation of $^{14}$N/$^{15}$N is observed towards different astrophysical sources, and current chemical models cannot reproduce it. With the advent of high angular resolution radiotelescopes it is now possible to search for N-fractionation at core scales. We present IRAM NOEMA observations of the J=1-0 transition of N$_{2}$H$^{+}$, $^{15}$NNH$^{+}$ and N$^{15}$NNH$^{+}$ towards the high-mass protocluster IRAS 05358+3543. We find $^{14}$N/$^{15}$N…
To investigate the physical processes, we present observational results of the sites S234, V582, and IRAS 05231+3512 situated toward l = 171.7 - 174.1 degrees. Based on the CO line data, we find that these sites are not physically connected, and contain at least one filament (with length > 7 pc). The observed line masses (M_line,obs) of the filaments associated with V582 and IRAS 05231+3512 are ~37 and ~28 M_sun/pc, respectively. These filaments are characterized as thermally supercritical, and harbor several clumps. Groups of infrared-excess sources and massive B-type stars are observed towar…
We have identified a new vibrational HCN maser at 89.087 GHz in the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) star IRAS 15082-4808, a maser which is thought to trace the innermost region of an AGB envelope. The observations of this maser at three epochs are presented: two positive detections and one null detection. The line profile has varied between the positive detections, as has the intensity of the maser. The major component of the maser is found to be offset by -2.0+/-0.9 km/s with respect to the systemic velocity of the envelope, as derived from the 88.631 GHz transition of HCN. Similar blueshifts a…
Aims: Previous observations of the young massive star formation region IRAS 19410+2336 have revealed strong outflow activity with several interacting outflows. We aim to get a better understanding of the outflow activity in this region by observing the SiO and H$^{13}$CO$^+$ emission with high angular resolution. SiO is known to trace shocked gas, which is often associated with young energetic outflows. With the H$^{13}$CO$^+$ data, we intend to better understand the distribution of the quiescent gaseous component of the region. Methods: The SiO observations in the J=2-1 v=0 transition and H$^…
Globules and pillars, impressively revealed by the Spitzer and Herschel satellites, for example, are pervasive features found in regions of massive star formation. We studied the globule IRAS 20319+3958 in Cygnus X by means of visible and near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy, complemented with mid-infrared Spitzer/IRAC imaging, in order to obtain a census of its stellar content and the nature of its embedded sources. Our observations show that the globule contains an embedded aggregate of about 30 very young ($\lesssim 1$~Myr) stellar objects, for which we estimate a total mass of ~ 90 M_sun…
There is evidence that the star formation process is linked to the intricate net of filaments in molecular clouds, which may be also due to gas compression from external triggers. We studied the southern region of the Perseus NGC 1333 molecular cloud, known to be heavily shaped by similar external triggers, to shed light on the process that perturbed the filament where the Class 0 IRAS4 protostars lie. We use new IRAM-NOEMA observations of SiO and CH3OH, both known to trace violent events as shocks, toward IRAS 4A as part of the Large Program Seeds Of Life in Space (SOLIS). We detected three p…
We measured the trigonometric annual parallax of H$_2$O maser source associated with the massive star-forming regions IRAS 06061+2151 with VERA. The annual parallax of $0.496\pm0.031$ mas corresponding to a distance of $2.02^{+0.13}_{-0.12}$ kpc was obtained by 10 epochs of observations from 2007 October to 2009 September. This distance was obtained with a higher accuracy than the photometric distance previously measured, and places IRAS 06061+2151 in the Perseus spiral arm. We found that IRAS 06061+2151 also has a peculiar motion of larger than 15 km s$^{-1}$ counter to the Galactic rotation.…
This work aims at investigating the molecular and infrared components in the massive young stellar object (MYSO) candidate IRAS 18544+0112. The purpose is to determine the nature and the origin of this infrared source. To analyze the molecular gas towards IRAS 18544+0112, we have carried out observations in a 90" x 90" region around l = 34.69, b = -0.65, using the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE) in the 12CO J=3-2, 13CO J=3-2, HCO+ J=4-3 and CS J=7-6 lines with an angular resolution of 22". The infrared emission in the area has been analyzed using 2MASS and Spitzer public data…
We present 0.9 mm continuum and CO (3-2) line emission observations retrieved from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) archive toward the high-mass star formation region IRAS 16076-5134. We identify fourteen dense cores with masses between 0.3 to 22 M$_{\odot}$. We find an ensemble of filament-like CO (3-2) ejections from -62 to +83 km s$^{-1}$ that appear to arise radially from a common central position, close to the dense core MM8. The ensemble of filaments, has a quasi-isotropic distribution in the plane of the sky. The radial velocity of several filaments follow a linea…
Context. The importance of the magnetic field in high-mass-star formation is not yet fully clear and there are still many open questions concerning its role in the accretion processes and generation of jets and outflows. In the past few years, masers have been successfully used to probe the magnetic field morphology and strength at scales of a few au around massive protostars, by measuring linear polarisation angles and Zeeman splitting. The massive protostar IRAS 18089-1732 is a well studied high-mass-star forming region, showing a hot core chemistry and a disc-outflow system. Previous SMA ob…
We present Caltech Submillimeter Observatory CO (2-1) and Spitzer IRAC observations toward IRAS 22506+5944, which is a 10$^4$ $L_{\odot}$ massive star-forming region. The CO (2-1) maps show an east-west bipolar molecular outflow originating from the 3 mm dust continuum peak. The Spitzer IRAC color-composite image reveals a pair of bow-shaped tips which are prominent in excess 4.5 $μ$m emission and are located to the leading fronts of the bipolar outflow, providing compelling evidence for the existence of bow-shocks as the driving agents of the molecular outflow. By comparing our CO (2-1) obser…
The deuterium fractionation, Dfrac, has been proposed as an evolutionary indicator in pre-protostellar and protostellar cores of low-mass star-forming regions. We investigate Dfrac, with high angular resolution, in the cluster environment surrounding the UCHII region IRAS 20293+3952. We performed high angular resolution observations with the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI) of the ortho-NH2D 1_{11}-1_{01} line at 85.926 GHz and compared them with previously reported VLA NH3 data. We detected strong NH2D emission toward the pre-protostellar cores identified in NH3 and dust emission, a…
We have carried out a new kinematical analysis of the molecular gas in the Sh2-233 region by using the CO $J$ = 2-1 data taken at $\sim$0.5 pc resolution. The molecular gas consists of a filamentary cloud of 5-pc length with 1.5-pc width where two dense cloud cores are embedded. The filament lies between two clouds, which have a velocity difference of 2.6 km s$^{-1}$ and are extended over $\sim$5 pc. We frame a scenario that the two clouds are colliding with each other and compressed the gas between them to form the filament in $\sim$0.5 Myr which is perpendicular to the collision. It is likel…
We present the results of astrometric observations with VERA toward the H2O maser sources in IRAS 05137+3919, which is thought to be located in the far outer Galaxy. We have derived the parallax of π= 0.086 +/- 0.027 mas, which corresponds to the source distance of D=11.6+5.3-2.8 kpc. Although the parallax measurement is only 3-sigma level and thus the distance uncertainty is considerably large, we can strongly constrain the minimum distance to this source, locating the source at the distance from the Sun greater than 8.3 kpc (or 16.7 kpc from the Galaxy's center) at 90% confidence level. Our …
We present a first look at the local LIRG, IRAS04296+2923. This barred spiral, overlooked because of its location in the Galactic plane, is among the half dozen closest LIRGs. More IR-luminous than either M82 or the Antennae, it may be the best local example of a nuclear starburst caused by bar-mediated secular evolution. We present Palomar J and Pa beta images, VLA maps from 20-1.3cm, a Keck LWS image at 11.7mic and OVRO CO(1-0) and ^13CO(1-0), and 2.7 mm continuum images. The J-band image shows a symmetric barred spiral. Two bright, compact mid-IR/radio sources in the nucleus comprise a star…
BVRIJHK photometry, Spitzer-GLIMPSE photometry and HK band spectroscopy were used to study the stellar content of IRAS 19343+2026, a (proto)star/cluster candidate, located close to the Galactic plane. The data suggest that IRAS 19343+2026 is a rich cluster associated with a massive protostar of 7.6 Msol with an age of ~ 10^5 yr. Three point sources in the vicinity of the far-infrared (FIR) peak are also found to be early B type stars. The remaining (predominantly low mass) members of the cluster are best represented by a 1 - 3 Myr pre-main-sequence (PMS) population. HK band spectra of two brig…
We have obtained observations of the OH Megamaser galaxy IRAS03056+0234 using Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) Integral Field Unit (IFU), Very Large Array (VLA) and Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The HST data reveals spiral arms containing knots of emission associated to star forming regions. The GMOS-IFU data cover the spectral range of 4500 to 7500 Å at a velocity resolution of 90 km s$^{-1}$ and spatial resolution of 506 pc. The emission-line flux distributions reveal a ring of star forming regions with radius of 786 pc centred at the nucleus of the galaxy, with an ionized gas mass of…
IRAS 19312+1950 is a peculiar object that has eluded firm characterization since its discovery, with combined maser properties similar to an evolved star and a young stellar object (YSO). To help determine its true nature, we obtained infrared spectra of IRAS 19312+1950 in the range 5-550 $μ$m using the Herschel and Spitzer space observatories. The Herschel PACS maps exhibit a compact, slightly asymmetric continuum source at 170 $μ$m, indicative of a large, dusty circumstellar envelope. The far-IR CO emission line spectrum reveals two gas temperature components: $\approx0.22M_{\odot}$ of mater…
We present a multi-wavelength observational study of IRAS 17008-4040 and IRAS 17009-4042 to probe the star-formation (SF) mechanisms operational in both the sites. Each IRAS site is embedded within a massive ATLASGAL 870 micron clump (~2430 - 2900 M_sun), and several parsec-scale filaments at 160 micron are radially directed toward these clumps (at T_d ~ 25 - 32 K). The analysis of the Spitzer and VVV photometric data depicts a group of infrared-excess sources toward both the clumps, suggesting the ongoing SF activities. In each IRAS site, high-resolution GMRT radio maps at 0.61 and 1.28 GHz c…
We report on the internal distribution of star formation efficiency in IRAS 08339+6517 (hereafter IRAS08), using $\sim$200~pc resolution CO(2-1) observations from NOEMA. The molecular gas depletion time changes by 2 orders-of-magnitude from disk-like values in the outer parts to less than 10$^8$~yr inside the half-light radius. This translates to a star formation efficiency per free-fall time that also changes by 2 orders-of-magnitude, reaching 50-100\%, different than local spiral galaxies and typical assumption of constant, low star formation efficiencies. Our target is a compact, massive di…
Accurate quantification of the column density of di-deuterated methanol is a key missing puzzle piece in the otherwise thoroughly constrained family of D-bearing methanol in the deeply embedded low-mass protostellar system and astrochemical template source IRAS16293-2422. A spectroscopic dataset for astrophysical purposes is built for CHD$_{2}$OH and made publicly available to facilitate accurate characterization of this species in astrochemical surveys. The newly computed line list and partition function are used to search for CHD$_{2}$OH towards IRAS16293-2422 A and B in data from ALMA-PILS.…
We present MSX two-color diagrams that can be used to characterize circumstellar environments of sources with good quality MSX colors in terms of IRAS color regions for oxygen-rich stars. With these diagrams we aim to provide a new tool that can be used to study circumstellar environments and to improve detection rates for targeted surveys for circumstellar maser emission similar to the IRAS two-color diagram. This new tool is especially useful for regions in the sky where IRAS was confused, in particular in the Galactic plane and bulge region. Unfortunately, using MSX colors alone does not al…
