Phase transition and heat engine efficiency of phantom AdS black holes are investigated with peculiar properties found. In the non-extended phase space, we probe the possibility of $T-S$ criticality in both the canonical ensemble and grand-canonical ensemble. It is shown that no $T-S$ criticality exists for the phantom AdS black hole in the canonical ensemble, which is different from the RN-AdS black hole. Contrary to the canonical ensemble, no critical point can be found for neither phantom AdS black holes nor RN-AdS black hole in the grand-canonical ensemble. Moreover, we study the specific heat at constant electric potential. When the electric potential satisfies $A_0>1$, only phantom AdS black holes undergo phase transition in the grand-canonical ensemble. In the extended phase space, we show that there is no $P-V$ criticality for phantom AdS black holes, contrary to the case of the RN-AdS black hole. Furthermore, we define a new kind of heat engine via phantom AdS black holes. Comparing to RN-AdS black holes, phantom AdS black holes have a lower heat engine efficiency. However, the ratio $η/η_C$ of phantom AdS black hole is higher, thus increasing the possibility of approaching the Carnot limit. This observation is obviously of interest. The interesting results obtained in this paper may be attributed to the existence of phantom field whose energy density is negative.
In this paper, we investigated the chaos of the phantom AdS black hole in near-horizon regions and at a certain distance from the black hole, where the Lyapunov exponent was calculated by the Jacobian determinant. We found that the angular momenta of charged particles nearby the black hole affect the position of the equilibrium orbit as well as the Lyapunov exponent. When the charge is large enough and the angular momenta take particular values, the bound is violated at a certain distance from the event horizon. Concurrently, we compared the differences by analyzing tables and figures after ta…
In this paper, we obtain exact phantom (A)dS black hole solutions in the context of $F(R)$ gravity with topological spacetime in four dimensions. Then, we study the effects of different parameters on the event horizon. In the following, we calculate the conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the system and check the first law of thermodynamics for these kinds of black holes. Next, we evaluate the local stability of the topological phantom (A)dS black holes in $F(R)$ gravity by studying the heat capacity and the geometrothemodynamic, where we show that the two approaches agrees. We extend ou…
We show that to investigate the thermodynamic properties of charged phantom spherically symmetric anti-de-Sitter black holes, it is necessary to consider the cosmological constant as a thermodynamic variable so that the corresponding fundamental equation is a homogeneous function defined on an extended equilibrium space. We explore all the thermodynamic properties of this class of black holes by using the classical physical approach, based upon the analysis of the fundamental equation, and the alternative mathematical approach as proposed in geometrothermodynamics. We show that both approaches…
We investigate the gravitational quasi-normal modes (QNMs) for a type of regular black hole (BH) known as phantom BH, which is a static self-gravitating solution of a minimally coupled phantom scalar field with a potential. The studies are carried out for three different spacetimes: asymptotically flat, de Sitter (dS), and anti de Sitter (AdS). In order to consider the standard odd parity and even parity of gravitational perturbations, the corresponding master equations are derived. The QNMs are discussed by evaluating the temporal evolution of the perturbation field which, in turn, provides d…
We obtain a new solution of the Einstein-anti-Maxwell theory with cosmological constant, called anti-Reissner-Nordstrom-(A)de Sitter (anti-RN-(A)dS) solution. The basic properties of this solution is reviewed. Its thermodynamics is consistently established, with the extreme cases and phase transitions, where the analysis is performed through two methods, the usual one and that of Geometrothermodynamics . The Geometrothermodynamics analysis does not provide a result in agreement with the usual method or by the specific heat. We establish local and global thermodynamic stabilities of anti-RN-AdS…
We test the stability of various wormholes and black holes supported by a scalar field with a negative kinetic term. The general axial perturbations and the monopole type of polar perturbations are considered in the linear approximation. Two classes of objects are considered: (i) wormholes with flat asymptotic behavior at one end and AdS on the other (M-AdS wormholes) and (ii) regular black holes with asymptotically de Sitter expansion far beyond the horizon (the so-called black universes). A difficulty in such stability studies is that the effective potential for perturbations forms an infini…

For self-gravitating, static, spherically symmetric, minimally coupled scalar fields with arbitrary potentials and negative kinetic energy (favored by the cosmological observations), we give a classification of possible regular solutions to the field equations with flat, de Sitter and AdS asymptotic behavior. Among the 16 presented classes of regular rsolutions are traversable wormholes, Kantowski-Sachs (KS) cosmologies beginning and ending with de Sitter stages, and asymptotically flat black holes (BHs). The Penrose diagram of a regular BH is Schwarzschild-like, but the singularity at $r=0$ i…
We investigate the thermodynamic phase transitions and heat engine efficiency in regular Bardeen AdS black hole. Interpreting cosmological constant as thermodynamic pressure, we study the thermodynamics using T S and P v plots. Specific heat studies also carried out in detail. A first order phase transition in evident from these studies. These are followed by the construction of a heat engine considering the black hole as working substance. The efficiency is obtained via a thermodynamic cycle in the P V plane which receives and ejects heat. The heat engine efficiency is improved by adding a qu…
Holographic superconductors containing a non-minimal derivative coupling for scalar field in a regular phantom plane symmetric black hole have been considered. We show that the parameter of the regular black hole $b$ as well as the non-minimal derivative coupling parameter $η$ affect the formation of the condensate as well as the conductivity in the superconductor. Moreover, $b$ has a critical value in which the critical temperature $T_c$ increases without a bound. We argue that an unlimited critical temperature is an evidence that high $T_c$ superconductor must be related to the absence of a …
We study the black hole thermodynamics in the presence of a string cloud matter distribution, considering a work term due to a variable cosmological "constant" in arbitrary dimensions. Then, we explore the criticality of the system and the behavior of the black hole as a heat engine in the context of general relativity and metric f(R) gravity.
With in the extended thermodynamics, we study the efficiency $η_k$ of critical heat engines for charged black holes in massive gravity for spherical ($k=1$), flat ($k=0$) and hyperbolic ($k=-1$) topologies. Although, $η_k$ is in general higher (lower) for hyperbolic (spherical) topology, we show that this order can be reversed in critical heat engines with efficiency higher for spherical topology, following in particular the order: $ η_{\rm -1}^{\phantom{-1}} < η_{\rm 0}^{\phantom{0}} < η_{\rm +1}^{\phantom{+1}}$. Furthermore, the study of the near horizon region of the critical hole shows tha…
We investigate the properties of holographic heat engines with an uncharged accelerating non-rotating AdS black hole as the working substance in a benchmarking scheme. We find that the efficiencies of the black hole heat engines can be influenced by both the size of the benchmark circular cycle and the cosmic string tension as a thermodynamic variable. In general, the efficiency can be increased by enlarging the cycle, but is still constrained by a universal bound $2π/(π+4)$ as expected. A cross-comparison of the efficiencies of the accelerating black hole heat engines and Schwarzschild-AdS bl…
We construct explicit examples of globally regular static, spherically symmetric solutions in general relativity with scalar and electromagnetic fields which describe traversable wormholes (with flat and AdS asymptotics) and regular black holes, in particular, black universes. A black universe is a nonsingular black hole where, beyond the horizon, instead of a singularity, there is an expanding, asymptotically isotropic universe. The scalar field in these solutions is phantom (i.e., its kinetic energy is negative), minimally coupled to gravity and has a nonzero self-interaction potential. The …
In this paper, we have considered the heat engine and Joule-Thomson expansion for the charged AdS black hole in the context of the non-linear electrodynamics and massive gravity. For the black hole heat engine, we obtained the analytical expression for the efficiency in terms of either the entropies or the temperatures and pressures in various limits. For the Joule-Thomson expansion of the black hole, we derived the isenthalpic curves in $T-P$ diagram, the Joule-Thomson coefficient, and the inversion curves. We also indicated in detail the effects of the non-linear electrodynamics and massive …
We consider the charged d-dimensional black holes in a cavity in extended phase space and investigate the heat engine and the Joule-Thomson (JT) expansion. Since the phase structure of black holes in a cavity is similar to anti-de-sitter (AdS) cases, we take black holes in a cavity as the working substance in the heat engine and calculate their efficiency in Carnot cycle and rectangular cycle. Also, we discuss whether the JT expansion of charged black holes in a cavity is consistent with AdS cases and conclude the effect of different boundary conditions on black hole thermodynamics.
We obtain a family of regular static, spherically symmetric solutions in Einstein--Cartan theory with an electromagnetic field and a nonminimally coupled scalar field with the correct sign of kinetic energy density. At different values of its parameters, the solution, being asemptotically flat at large values of the radial coordinate, describes (i) twice asemptotically flat symmetric wormholes, (ii) asymmetric wormholes with an AdS asymptotic at the "far end", (iii) regular black holes with an extremal horizon or two simple horizons, and (iv) black universes with a de Sitter asymptotic at the …
We assume that the negative cosmological constant as a thermodynamical pressure and the asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole thermodynamics with modified Chaplygin gas. We have written the mass of the black hole, volume, entropy and temperature due to the thermodynamic system. We find a new solution of Einstein's field equations of AdS black hole with modified Chaplygin gas as a thermodynamic system. We also examine the weak, strong and dominant energy conditions for the source fluid of black hole. We also show that the thermodynamic black hole with Chaplygin gas can be considered as…
Recently, there has been a surge of interest in the 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4D EGB) gravity theory which bypasses the Lovelock theorem and avoids Ostrogradsky's instability. Such a novel theory has nontrivial dynamics and presents several predictions for cosmology and black hole physics. Motivated by recent astrophysical observations and the importance of anti-de Sitter spacetime, we investigate shadow geometrical shapes and deflection angle of light from the charged AdS black holes in 4D EGB gravity theory. We explore the shadow behaviors and photon sphere around such black holes, and inspe…
Using a reasonable choice in normalizing the timelike Killing vector, we investigate the thermodynamic properties of charged accelerating Anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes. We find that the expression of the thermodynamic mass in the first law of thermodynamics displays an inextricably intertwining behavior with the charge due to the unusual asymptotic structure of the accelerating black holes. Meanwhile, the thermodynamic length as a potential conjugate to the varying cosmic string tension is introduced and analyzed in detail, and the possible phase behavior of the charged accelerating black h…
In this paper, we study the heat engine where charged AdS black holes surrounded by dark energy is the working substance and the mechanical work is done via $PdV$ term in the first law of black hole thermodynamics in the extended phase space. We first investigate the effects of a kind of dark energy (quintessence field in this paper) on the efficiency of the RN-AdS black holes as heat engine defined as a rectangle closed path in the $P-V$ plane. We get the exact efficiency formula and find that quintessence field can improve the heat engine efficiency which will increase as the field density $…
We construct explicit examples of globally regular static, spherically symmetric solutions in general relativity with scalar and electromagnetic fields, describing traversable wormholes with flat and AdS asymptotics and regular black holes, in particular, black universes. (A black universe is a regular black hole with an expanding, asymptotically isotropic space-time beyond the horizon.) Such objects exist in the presence of scalar fields with negative kinetic energy ("phantoms", or "ghosts"), which are not observed under usual physical conditions. To account for that, we consider what we call…

We first review the general class of accelerating, rotating and charged Plebanski-Demianski (PD) black holes in presence of cosmological constant, which includes the Kerr-Newman rotating black hole and the Taub-NUT spacetime. We assume that the thermodynamical pressure may be described by the negative cosmological constant and so the black hole represents anti-de Sitter (AdS) PD black hole. The thermodynamic quantities like surface area, entropy, volume, temperature, Gibb's and Helmholtz's free energies of the AdS PD black hole are obtained due to the thermodynamic system. Next we find the cri…
We study the heat engine by a $d$-dimensional charged anti-de Sitter black hole by making a comparison between the small-large black hole phase transition and the liquid-vapour phase transition of water. With the help of the first law and equal-area law, we obtain an exact formula for the efficiency of a black hole engine modeled with a Rankine cycle with or without a back pressure mechanism. When the low temperature is fixed, both the heat and work decreases with the high temperature $T_{1}$. And the efficiency increases with $T_{1}$, while decreases with the charge $q$. For a Rankine cycle w…

In this paper, we attempt to further study the heat engine efficiency for the regular black hole (BH) with an anti-de Sitter (AdS) background where the working material is the Hayward-AdS (HAdS) BH. In the extended phase space, we investigate the heat engine efficiency of the HAdS BH by defining the cosmological constant as the thermodynamic pressure $P$ and deriving the mechanical work from the $PdV$ terms. Then, we obtain the relation between the efficiency and the entropy/pressure and plot these function figures. Meanwhile, we compare the relation between the HAdS BH with that of the Bardee…
In extended phase space, a static black hole in massive gravity is studied as a holographic heat engine. In the massive gravity theory considered, the graviton gain a mass due to Lorentz symmetry breaking. Exact efficiency formula is obtained for a rectangle engine cycle for the black hole considered. The efficiency is computed by varying two parameters in the theory, the scalar charge Q and $λ$. The efficiency is compared with the Carnot efficiency for the heat engine. It is observed that when Q and $λ$ are increased that the efficiency for the rectangle cycle increases. When compared to the …
In this paper, we construct a new charged AdS black hole with modified cosmic Chaplygin gas (MCCG). In comparison to the previous model (modified Chaplygin AdS black hole) existed in the literature, we now have two new parameters: the cosmic parameter and the black hole's electric charge. We examine the asymptotically charged AdS black hole thermodynamics with MCCG under the assumption of a negative cosmological constant as a thermodynamics pressure. Using MCCG, we developed a new solution to Einstein's AdS black hole field equations. The mass parameter, volume, electric potential, entropy, and…
$P$--$V$ criticality, Joule--Thomson expansion, and holographic heat engine of charged Hayward-AdS black holes with a cloud of strings and perfect fluid dark matter
We investigate the intrinsic and extrinsic curvatures of certain hypersurfaces in the thermodynamic geometry of a physical system and show that they contain useful thermodynamic information. For an anti-Reissner-Nordström-(A)de Sitter black hole (Phantom), the extrinsic curvature of a constant $Q$ hypersurface has the same sign as the heat capacity around the phase transition points. For a Kerr-Newmann-AdS (KN-AdS) black hole, the extrinsic curvature of $Q \to 0$ hypersurface (Kerr black hole) or $J \to 0$ hypersurface (RN black black hole) has the same sign as the heat capacity around the pha…
In this work, we construct a five-dimensional spherically-symmetric, charged and asymptotically Anti-de Sitter black hole with its singularity being point-like and strictly localised on our brane. In addition, the induced brane geometry is described by a Reissner-Nordström-(A)dS line-element. We perform a careful classification of the horizons, and demonstrate that all of them are exponentially localised close to the brane thus exhibiting a pancake shape. The bulk gravitational background is everywhere regular, and reduces to an AdS$_5$ spacetime right outside the black-hole event horizon. Thi…
We extend to non-static black holes our benchmarking scheme that allows for cross-comparison of the efficiencies of asymptotically AdS black holes used as working substances in heat engines. We use a circular cycle in the p-V plane as the benchmark cycle. We study Kerr black holes in four spacetime dimensions as an example. As in the static case, we find an exact formula for the benchmark efficiency in an ideal-gas-like limit, which may serve as an upper bound for rotating black hole heat engines in a thermodynamic ensemble with fixed angular velocity. We use the benchmarking scheme to compare…
In this paper we study AdS-Schwarzschild black holes in four and five dimensions in dRGT minimally coupled to a cloud of strings and investigate the effects of this string cloud on the thermodynamics of the black holes. It is observed that the entropy of the string cloud and massive terms does not affect the black hole entropy. The observations about four dimensions indicate that the massive term in the presence of external string cloud can not exhibit Van der Waals like behavior for AdS-Schwarzschild black holes and therefore there is only the Hawking-Page phase transition. In contrast, in fi…
It is shown that in theories of gravity where the cosmological constant is considered a thermodynamic variable, it is natural to use black holes as heat engines. Two examples are presented in detail using AdS charged black holes as the working substance. We notice that for static black holes, the maximally efficient traditional Carnot engine is also a Stirling engine. The case of negative cosmological constant supplies a natural realization of these engines in terms of the field theory description of the fluids to which they are holographically dual. We first propose a precise picture of how t…
By considering AdS charged black hole in the context of extended thermodynamic as the working substance we use it as a heat engine. We investigate the effect of hairy charge on the evolution of efficiency and Carnot efficiency along with electric charge. Because of interesting thermodynamic behavior of hairy black holes it would be natural to know their effects when we use black hole as a heat engine. We show that the hairy charge increases the efficiency, and so maximum temperature would be happened for bigger Maxwell charge when this hairy charge grows. For the fixed electric charges, the ef…
