Thermodynamic properties of the twisted three-leg spin tube under magnetic field are studied by the finite-$T$ density-matrix renormalization group method. The specific heat, spin, and chiral susceptibilities of the infinite system are calculated for both the original and its low-energy effective models. The obtained results show that the presence of the chirality is observed as a clear peak in the specific heat at low temperature and the contribution of the chirality dominates the low-temperature part of the specific heat as the exchange coupling along the spin tube decreases. The peak structures in the specific heat, spin, and chiral susceptibilities are strongly modified near the quantum phase transition where the critical behaviors of the spin and chirality correlations change. These results confirm that the chirality plays a major role in characteristic low-energy behaviors of the frustrated spin systems.
The coupled spin tube system, which is equivalent to a stacked Kagome-triangular spin system, exhibits the cuboc order -- a non-coplanar spin order with a twelve-sublattice structure accompanying spontaneous breaking of the translational symmetry -- in the Kagome-triangular plane. On the basis of the spin-wave theory, we analyze spin-wave excitations of the planar Kagome-triangular spin system, where the geometric phase characteristic to the cuboc spin structure emerges. We further investigate spin-wave excitations and dynamical spin structure factors for the coupled spin tubes, assuming the s…
The $S=1/2$ twisted three-leg spin tube with the lattice distortion from the regular triangle to the isosceles one is investigated using the numerical diagonalization of finite-size clusters and the phenomenological renormalization group analysis. It is found that the quantum phase transition occurs from the spin gap phase to another one with respect to this lattice distortion.
We investigate the spin-1/2 twisted three-leg antiferromagnetic quantum spin tube in the presence of the easy-plane anisotropy, using the numerical diagonalization of finite-size clusters. And we observe cases of the existence and the absence of magnetization plateau at 1/3 height of saturation magnetization when the anisotropy is tuned. The phenomenological-renormalization analysis indicates a quantum phase transition between the 1/3 magnetization plateau phase and the plateauless one. The phase diagram is also presented.
We study the ground state phase diagram of the twisted three-leg spin tube in magnetic fields by the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. The twisted spin tube is composed of triangular unit cells and possesses strong quantum fluctuations under geometrical frustration. We apply the sine square deformation method to remove the strong boundary effects and obtain smooth magnetization curves without steps of finite systems. With the analysis of the magnetization curves and correlation functions we determine the ground state phase diagram consisting of (a) a Tomonaga-Luttinger (TL) l…
Using Monte Carlo simulations, we explore the magnetic phase diagram of the triangular spin tubes coupled with a ferromagnetic inter-tube interaction for CsCrF4. A planar structure of the coupled tubes is topologically equivalent to the Kagome-triangular lattice, which induces nontrivial frustration effects in the system. We particularly find that, depending on the inter-tube coupling, various ordered phases are actually realized, such as incommensurate order, ferromagnetic order, and Cuboc order, which is characterized by the non-coplanar spin structure of the twelve sublattice accompanying t…
Layered oxides have been intensively studied due to their high designability for various electronic functions. Here we synthesize a new oxide as epitaxial thin film form by pulsed laser deposition. Film characterizations including cross-section and plan-view transmission electron microscopy confirm that the film is composed of twisted stack of triangular-lattice Rh and Bi layers. We foresee that the concept of twisted oxide layers will open up a new route to design further functional layered oxides.
The anisotropic triangular model, which is believed to describe the materials Cs$_2$CuCl$_4$ and Cs$_2$CuBr$_4$, among others, is dominated by incommensurate spiral physics and is thus extremely resistant to numerical analysis on small system sizes. In this paper we use twisted boundary conditions and exact diagonalization techniques to study the phase diagram of this model. With these boundary conditions we are able to extract the inter- and intrachain ordering $q$-vectors for the $\frac{J'}{J} < 1$ region finding very close agreement with recent DMRG results on much larger systems. Our resul…
We study a twisted Hubbard tube modeling the [CrAs] structure of quasi-one-dimensional superconductors A2Cr3As3 (A = K, Rb, Cs). The molecular-orbital bands emerging from the quasi-degenerate atomic orbitals are exactly solved. An effective Hamiltonian is derived for a region where three partially filled bands intersect the Fermi energy. The deduced local interactions among these active bands show a significant reduction compared to the original atomic interactions. The resulting three-channel Luttinger liquid shows various interaction-induced instabilities including two kinds of spin-triplet …
We present the electronic band structures of states with the same symmetry as the three-sublattice planar antiferromagnetic order of the triangular lattice. Such states can also be defined on the honeycomb lattice provided the spin density waves lie on the bonds. We identify cases which are consistent with observations on twisted bilayer graphene: a correlated insulator with an energy gap, yielding a single doubly-degenerate Fermi surface upon hole doping. We also discuss extensions to metallic states which preserve spin rotation invariance, with fluctuating spin density waves and bulk $\mathb…
We build symmetry adapted maximally localized Wannier states, and construct the low energy tight binding model for the four narrow bands of the twisted bilayer graphene. We do so when the twist angle is commensurate, near the `magic' value, and the narrow bands are separated from the rest of the bands by energy gaps. On each layer and sublattice, every Wannier state has three peaks near the triangular Moire lattice sites. However, each Wannier state is localized and centered around a site of the honeycomb lattice that is dual to the triangular Moire lattice. Space group and the time reversal s…
We consider lattice Hamiltonian realizations of ($d$+1)-dimensional Dijkgraaf-Witten theory. In (2+1)d, it is well-known that the Hamiltonian yields point-like excitations classified by irreducible representations of the twisted quantum double. This can be confirmed using a tube algebra approach. In this paper, we propose a generalization of this strategy that is valid in any dimensions. We then apply the tube algebra approach to derive the algebraic structure of loop-like excitations in (3+1)d, namely the twisted quantum triple. The irreducible representations of the twisted quantum triple al…
We explore in detail the electronic phases of a system consisting of three non-colinear arrays of coupled quantum wires, each rotated 120 degrees with respect to the next. A perturbative renormalization-group analysis reveals that multiple correlated states can be stabilized: a $s$-wave or $d \pm id$ superconductor, a charge density wave insulator, a two-dimensional Fermi liquid, and a 2D Luttinger liquid (also known as smectic metal or sliding Luttinger liquid). The model provides an effective description of electronic interactions in small-angle twisted bilayer graphene and we discuss its im…
In this paper, we derive lattice models for the narrow moiré bands of the AB-stacked twisted WSe$_2$ homobilayer through continuum model and Wannier orbital construction. Previous work has shown that an approximate SU(4) Hubbard model may be realized by combining spin and layer because inter-layer tunneling is suppressed due to spin $S_z$ conservation. However, Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) was ignored in the previous analysis. Here, we show that a Rashba SOC of reasonable magnitude can induce a finite but very small inter-layer hopping in the final lattice Hubbard model. At total filling $…
We study XXZ Heisenberg models on frustrated triangular lattices wrapped around a cylinder. In addition to having interesting magnetic phases, these models are equivalent to Bose-Hubbard models that describe the physical problem of adsorption of noble gases on the surface of carbon nanotubes. We find analytical results for the possible magnetization plateau values as a function of the wrapping vectors of the cylinder, which in general introduce extra geometric frustration besides the one due to the underlying triangular lattice. We show that for particular wrapping vectors $(N,0)$, which corre…

We study the electronic structure and correlated phases of twisted bilayers of platinum diselenide using large-scale ab initio simulations combined with the functional renormalization group. PtSe$_2$ is a group-X transition metal dichalcogenide, which hosts emergent flat bands at small twist angles in the twisted bilayer. Remarkably, we find that moiré engineering can be used to tune the strength of Rashba spin-orbit interactions, altering the electronic behavior in a novel manner. We reveal that an effective triangular lattice with a twist-controlled ratio between kinetic and spin-orbit coupl…
