The notion of a noncommutative quasi-resolution is introduced for a noncommutative noetherian algebra with singularities, even for a non-Cohen-Macaulay algebra. If A is a commutative normal Gorenstein domain, then anoncommutative quasi-resolution of A naturally produces a noncommutative crepant resolution (NCCR) of A in the sense of Van den Bergh, and vice versa. Under some mild hypotheses, we prove that (i) in dimension two, all noncommutative quasi-resolutions of a given non-commutative algebra are Morita equivalent, and (ii) in dimension three, all noncommutative quasi-resolutions of a given non-commutative algebra are derived equivalent. These assertions generalize important results of Van den Bergh, Iyama-Reiten and Iyama-Wemyss in the commutative and central-finite cases.
We introduce the notion of right pre-resolutions (quasi-resolutions) for noncommutative isolated singularities, which is a weaker version of quasi-resolutions introduced by Qin-Wang-Zhang. We prove that right quasi-resolutions for noetherian bounded below and locally finite graded algebra with right injective dimension 2 are always Morita equivalent. When we restrict to noncommutative quadric hypersurfaces, we prove that a noncommutative quadric hypersurface, which is a noncommutative isolated singularity, always admits a right pre-resolution. Besides, we provide a method to verify whether a n…
We give an explicit algorithm to compute a projective resolution of a module over the noncommutative ring based on the noncommutative Groebner bases theory.
Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We show that the centre of a homologically homogeneous, finitely generated k-algebra has rational singularities. In particular if a finitely generated normal commutative k-algebra has a noncommutative crepant resolution, as introduced by the second author, then it has rational singularities.
We present an algorithm that finds all toric noncommutative crepant resolutions of a given toric 3-dimensional Gorenstein singularity. The algorithm embeds the quivers of these algebras inside a real 3-dimensional torus such that the relations are homotopy relations. One can project these embedded quivers down to a 2-dimensional torus to obtain the corresponding dimer models. We discuss some examples and use the algorithm to show that all toric noncommutative crepant resolutions of a finite quotient of the conifold singularity can be obtained by mutating one basic dimer model. We also discuss …
Bell polynomials appear in several combinatorial constructions throughout mathematics. Perhaps most naturally in the combinatorics of set partitions, but also when studying compositions of diffeomorphisms on vector spaces and manifolds, and in the study of cumulants and moments in probability theory. We construct commutative and noncommutative Bell polynomials and explain how they give rise to Faà di Bruno Hopf algebras. We use the language of incidence Hopf algebras, and along the way provide a new description of antipodes in noncommutative incidence Hopf algebras, involving quasideterminants…
A quasi-coherent ringed scheme is a pair (X,A), where X is a scheme, and A is a noncommutative quasi-coherent O_X-ring. We introduce dualizing complexes over quasi-coherent ringed schemes and study their properties. For a separated differential quasi-coherent ringed scheme of finite type over a field, we prove existence and uniqueness of a rigid dualizing complex. In the proof we use the theory of perverse coherent sheaves in order to glue local pieces of the rigid dualizing complex into a global complex.
In this paper we propose a general method for computing a minimal free right resolution of a finitely presented graded right module over a finitely presented graded noncommutative algebra. In particular, if such module is the base field of the algebra then one obtains its graded homology. The approach is based on the possibility to obtain the resolution via the computation of syzygies for modules over commutative algebras. The method behaves algorithmically if one bounds the degree of the required elements in the resolution. Of course, this implies a complete computation when the resolution is…
Noetherian dimer algebras form a prominent class of examples of noncommutative crepant resolutions (NCCRs). However, dimer algebras which are noetherian are quite rare, and we consider the question: how close are nonnoetherian homotopy dimer algebras to being NCCRs? To address this question, we introduce a generalization of NCCRs to nonnoetherian tiled matrix rings. We show that if a noetherian dimer algebra is obtained from a nonnoetherian homotopy dimer algebra $A$ by contracting each arrow whose head has indegree 1, then $A$ is a noncommutative desingularization of its nonnoetherian center.…
We introduce a geometric realization of noncommutative singularity resolutions. To do this, we first present a new conjectural method of obtaining conventional resolutions using coordinate rings of matrix-valued functions. We verify this conjecture for all cyclic quotient surface singularities, the Kleinian D_n and E_6 surface singularities, the conifold singularity, and a non-isolated singularity, using appropriate quiver algebras. This conjecture provides a possible new generalization of the classical McKay correspondence. Then, using symplectic reduction within these rings, we obtain new, n…
This paper constructs cellular resolutions for classes of noncommutative algebras, analogous to those introduced by Bayer-Sturmfels in the commutative case. To achieve this we generalise the dimer model construction of noncommutative crepant resolutions of toric algebras in dimension three by associating a superpotential and a notion of consistency to toric algebras of arbitrary dimension. For consistent algebras $A$, the coherent component of the fine moduli space of $A$-modules is constructed explicitly by GIT and provides a partial resolution of $\Spec Z(A)$. For abelian skew group algebras…
We show that all toric noncommutative crepant resolutions (NCCRs) of affine GIT quotients of "weakly symmetric" unimodular torus representations are derived equivalent. This yields evidence for a non-commutative extension of a well known conjecture by Bondal and Orlov stating that all crepant resolutions of a Gorenstein singularity are derived equivalent. We prove our result by showing that all toric NCCRs of the affine GIT quotient are derived equivalent to a fixed Deligne-Mumford GIT quotient stack associated to a generic character of the torus. This extends a result by Halpern-Leistner and …
The main purpose of this paper is to describe various phenomena and certain constructions arising in the process of studying derived noncommutative schemes. Derived noncommutative schemes are defined as differential graded categories of a special type. We review and discuss different properties of both noncommutative schemes and morphisms between them. In addition, the concept of geometric realization for derived noncommutative scheme is introduced and problems of existence and construction of such realizations are discussed. We also study the construction of gluing noncommutative schemes via …
We make an attempt to develop "noncommutative algebraic geometry" in which noncommutative affine schemes are in one-to-one correspondence with associative algebras. In the first part we discuss various aspects of smoothness in affine noncommutative algebraic geometry. The main example for us is the noncommutative affine space. The algebra of functions on this space is free finitely generated algebra. We propose a general correspondence principle which allows us to give definitions of various differential-geometric structures in the noncommutative setting. In the second part we propose a defini…
Van den Bergh has defined the blowup of a noncommutative surface at a point lying on a commutative divisor. We study one aspect of the construction, with an eventual aim of defining more general kinds of noncommutative blowups. Our basic object of study is a quasi-scheme X (a Grothendieck category). Given a closed subcategory Z, in order to define a blowup of X along Z one first needs to have a functor F which is an analog of tensoring with the defining ideal of Z. Following Van den Bergh, a closed subcategory Z which has such a functor is called well-closed. We show that well-closedness can b…
Divided into three parts, the first marks out enormous geometric issues with the notion of quasi-freenss of an algebra and seeks to replace this notion of formal smoothness with an approximation by means of a minimal unital commutative algebra's smoothness. The second part of this text is then, devoted to the approximating of properties of nc. schemes through the properties of two uniquely determined (classical) schemes estimating the nc. scheme in question in a maximal way from the inside and through the minimal scheme approximating the nc. scheme in question from the outside. The very brief …
The Hopf algebra of word-quasi-symmetric functions ($\WQSym$), a noncommutative generalization of the Hopf algebra of quasi-symmetric functions, can be endowed with an internal product that has several compatibility properties with the other operations on $\WQSym$. This extends constructions familiar and central in the theory of free Lie algebras, noncommutative symmetric functions and their various applications fields, and allows to interpret $\WQSym$ as a convolution algebra of linear endomorphisms of quasi-shuffle algebras. We then use this interpretation to study the fine structure of quas…
Let k be a base commutative ring, R a commutative ring of coefficients, X a quasi-compact quasi-separated k-scheme, A a sheaf of Azumaya algebras over X of rank r, and Hmo(R) the category of noncommutative motives with R-coefficients. Assume that 1/r belongs to R. Under this assumption, we prove that the noncommutative motives with R-coefficients of X and A are isomorphic. As an application, we show that all the R-linear additive invariants of X and A are exactly the same. Examples include (nonconnective) algebraic K-theory, cyclic homology (and all its variants), topological Hochschild homolo…
