We report a holographic study of a two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory with the Dirichlet boundary condition for the cases of non-vanishing and vanishing cosmological constants. Our result shows that the boundary theory of the two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory with the Dirichlet boundary condition for the case of non-vanishing cosmological constants is the Schwarzian term coupled to a dilaton field, while for the case of vanishing cosmological constant, a theory does not have a kinetic term. We also include the higher derivative term $R^2$, where $R$ is the scalar curvature that is coupled to a dilaton field. We find that the form of the boundary theory is not modified perturbatively. Finally, we show that a lattice holographic picture is realized up to the second-order perturbation of boundary cut-off $ε^2$ under a constant boundary dilaton field and the non-vanishing cosmological constant by identifying the lattice spacing $a$ of a lattice Schwarzian theory with the boundary cut-off $ε$ of the two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory.
We study the dynamics of the geometric entanglement entropy of a 2D CFT in the presence of a boundary. We show that this dynamics is governed by local equations of motion, that take the same form as 2D Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity coupled to the CFT. If we assume that the boundary has a small thickness $ε$ and constant boundary entropy, we derive that its location satisfies the equations of motion of Schwarzian quantum mechanics with coupling constant $C = {c ε}/{12π}$. We rederive this result via energy-momentum conservation.
We study the boundary effective action of the colored version of the Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity. We derive the boundary action, which is the color generalization of the Schwarzian action, from the $su(N,N)$ BF formulation of the colored JT gravity. Using different types of the $SU(N,N)$ group decompositions both the zero and finite temperature cases are elaborated. We provide the semi-classical perturbative analysis of the boundary action and discuss the instability of the spin-1 mode and its implication for the quantum chaos. A rainbow-AdS$_2$ geometry is introduced where the color gauge …
We consider Minkowskian Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity in Bondi gauge at finite temperature, with non-zero vacuum energy. Its asymptotic symmetries span an extension of the warped Virasoro group, dubbed "BMS$_2$", which we investigate in detail. In particular, we show that this extension has a single coadjoint orbit when central charges are real and non-zero. The ensuing BMS-Schwarzian action has no saddle points, and only coincides with the boundary action functional of flat JT gravity up to a crucial dilatonic zero-mode that ensures the existence of a well-defined bulk variational principle.…
We develop a model of one-dimensional (Conformal) Quantum Gravity. By discussing the connection between Goldstone and Gauge theories, we establish that this model effectively computes the partition function of the Schwarzian theory where the $\textrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ symmetry is realized on the base space. The computation is straightforward, involves a local quantum measure and does not rely on localization arguments. Non-localities in the model are exclusively related to the value of fixed gauge invariant moduli. Furthermore, we study the properties of these models when all degrees of freed…
In this paper we further study the 1d Schwarzian theory, the universal low-energy limit of Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev models, using the link with 2d Liouville theory. We provide a path-integral derivation of the structural link between both theories, and study the relation between 3d gravity, 2d Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity, 2d Liouville and the 1d Schwarzian. We then generalize the Schwarzian double-scaling limit to rational models, relevant for SYK-type models with internal symmetries. We identify the holographic gauge theory as a 2d BF theory and compute correlators of the holographically dual 1d parti…
We proceed to study a (1+1)-dimensional dilaton gravity system with a hyperbolic dilaton potential. Introducing a couple of new variables leads to two copies of Liouville equations with two constraint conditions. In particular, in conformal gauge, the constraints can be expressed with Schwarzian derivatives. We revisit the vacuum solutions in light of the new variables and reveal its dipole-like structure. Then we present a time-dependent solution which describes formation of a black hole with a pulse. Finally, the black hole thermodynamics is considered by taking account of conformal matters …
We present an interacting spin-2 gauge theory coupled to the two-dimensional dilaton-gravity in flat spacetime. The asymptotic symmetry group is enhanced to the central extension of Diff$(S^1)\ltimes C^\infty(S^1)\ltimes$Vec($S^1$) when the central element of the Heisenberg subgroup is zero (vanishing $U(1)$ level). Using the BF-formulation of the model we derive the corresponding boundary coadjoint action which is the spin-2 extension of the warped Schwarzian theory at vanishing $U(1)$ level. We also discuss the thermodynamics of black holes in this model.
We study dilaton-gravity theories in 2-dimensions obtained by dimensional reduction of higher dimensional nonrelativistic theories. Focussing on certain families of extremal charged hyperscaling violating Lifshitz black branes in Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theories with an extra gauge field in 4-dimensions, we obtain $AdS_2$ backgrounds in the near horizon throats. We argue that these backgrounds can be obtained in equivalent theories of 2-dim dilaton-gravity with an extra scalar, descending from the higher dimensional scalar, and an interaction potential with the dilaton. A simple subcase here i…
Using a definition of the bulk frame within 2d Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity, we go into the bulk from the Schwarzian boundary. Including the path integral over the Schwarzian degrees of freedom, we discuss the quantum gravitational Unruh effect and the Planckian black-body spectrum of the thermal atmosphere. We analyze matter entanglement entropy and how the entangling surface should be defined in quantum gravity. Finally, we reanalyze a semi-classical model for black hole evaporation studied in JHEP 1607, 139 (2016) and compute the entanglement between early and late Hawking radiation, illustrat…
We show that the correspondence among $AdS_{3}/CFT_{2}$, the 1D Schwarzian Model, Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model and 2+1D Topological Quantum Gravity can be extended to the case of $dS_{3}/CFT_{2}$. The $R$-matrix, related to the gravitational scattering amplitude near the horizon of $dS_{3}$ black hole, corresponds (on the side of the holographic projection) to a crossing kernel in the Schwarzian Model. The $R$-matrix is related to the 6j-symbol of SU$(1,1)$. We also find that in the Euclidean $dS_{3}$ a new Kac-Moody symmetry of instantons emerges out. We dub these new solutions {\it Kac-Moodions}.…
We study 1+1 dimensional dilaton gravity models which take into account backreaction of the sinh-Gordon matter field. We found a wide class of exact solutions which generalizes black hole solutions of the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity model and its hyperbolic deformation.
In light of recent developments in nearly AdS$_2$ holography, we revisit the semi-classical version of two-dimensional dilaton gravity proposed by Callan, Giddings, Harvey, and Strominger (CGHS) in the early 90's. In distinction to the classical model, the quantum corrected CGHS model has an AdS$_2$ vacuum with a constant dilaton. By turning on a non-normalizable mode of the Liouville field, i.e. the conformal mode of the $2d$ gravity, the explicit breaking of the scale invariance renders the AdS$_2$ vacuum nearly AdS$_2$. As a consequence, there emerges an effective one-dimensional Schwarzian…
We study a bi-parametric family of dilaton gravity models with constant and negative curvature. This family includes the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity and the Liouville gravity model induced by a bosonic string. Furthermore, this family is conformally equivalent to the hiperbolic dilaton models. We propose boundary conditions in the Fefferman-Graham and in the Eddington-Finkelstein gauge. We check the consistency of the asymptotic conditions by computing the entropy of their black hole solution.
We show that an extremely generic class of two-dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs) contains a sector described by the Schwarzian theory. This applies to theories with no additional symmetries and large central charge, but does not require a holographic dual. Specifically, we use bootstrap methods to show that in the grand canonical ensemble, at low temperature with a chemical potential sourcing large angular momentum, the density of states and correlation functions are determined by the Schwarzian theory, up to parametrically small corrections. In particular, we compute out-of-time-ord…

Deep relations of dark energy scenario and string theory results into dilaton gravity, on one hand, and the connection between quantum gravity with gravity's rainbow, on the other hand, motivate us to consider three dimensional dilatonic black hole solutions in gravity's rainbow. We obtain two classes of the solutions which are polynomial and logarithmic forms. We also calculate conserved and thermodynamic quantities, and examine the first law of thermodynamics for both classes. In addition, we study thermal stability and show that one of the classes is thermally stable while the other one is …
In nearly AdS2 gravity the Einstein-Hilbert term is supplemented by the Jackiw-Teitelboim action. Integrating out the bulk metric gives rise to the Schwarzian action for the boundary curve. In the present note, we show how the extension to supergravity leads to the super-Schwarzian action for the superspace boundary.
