Based on the theory of continuous time random walks (CTRW), we build the models of characterizing the transitions among anomalous diffusions with different diffusion exponents, often observed in natural world. In the CTRW framework, we take the waiting time probability density function (PDF) as an infinite series in three parameter Mittag-Leffler functions. According to the models, the mean squared displacement of the process is analytically obtained and numerically verified, in particular, the trend of its transition is shown; furthermore the stochastic representation of the process is presented and the positiveness of the PDF of the position of the particles is strictly proved. Finally, the fractional moments of the model are calculated, and the analytical solutions of the model with external harmonic potential are obtained and some applications are proposed.
Anomalous diffusion phenomenon is an intriguing process that tracer diffusion presents in numerous complex systems. Current experimental and theoretical investigations have reported the emergence of random diffusivity scenarios accompanied by the heterogeneity of the $α$-anomalous diffusion exponents. In this framework, we investigate a heterogeneous ensemble of tracers governed by scaled Brownian motion (sBm). The heterogeneous features are considered on anomalous diffusion exponent and diffusivity. To analyse such systems, we introduce the truncated-Gaussian and truncated chi-squared distrib…
Anomalous relaxation and diffusion processes have been widely characterized by fractional derivative models, where the definition of the fractional-order derivative remains a historical debate due to the singular memory kernel that challenges numerical calculations. This study first explores physical properties of relaxation and diffusion models where the fractional derivative was defined recently using an exponential kernel. Analytical analysis shows that the fractional derivative model with an exponential kernel cannot characterize non-exponential dynamics well-documented in anomalous relaxa…
We report on a completely analytical calculation of the field anomalous dimension $γ_φ$ and the critical exponent $η$ for the $O(n)$-symmetric $φ^4$ model at the record six loop level. We successfully compare our result for $γ_φ$ with $n=1$ with the predictions based on the method of the Borel resummation combined with a conformal mapping. Predictions for seven loop contribution to the field anomalous dimensions are given.
In this contribution an application of two techniques for resummation of asymptotic series namely Borel-Pade technique and Borel-Leroy technique with conformal mapping to the case of a model with multiple coupling constants will be discussed and the results of application of this methods to the $O(n)$-symmetric $ϕ^{4}$ model with an antisymmetric tensor order parameter will be presented.
We investigate the role of phase transitions into the spontaneous emission rate of quantum emitters embedded in a critical medium. Using a Landau-Ginzburg approach, we find that, in the broken symmetry phase, the emission rate is reduced or even suppressed due to the photon mass generated by the Higgs mechanism. Moreover, we show that the spontaneous emission presents a remarkable dependence upon the critical exponents associated to a given phase transition, allowing for an optical determination of the universality class. Our findings not only demonstrate that the Purcell effect constitutes an…
Anomalous diffusion occurs in many physical and biological phenomena, when the growth of the mean squared displacement (MSD) with time has an exponent different from one. We show that recurrent neural networks (RNN) can efficiently characterize anomalous diffusion by determining the exponent from a single short trajectory, outperforming the standard estimation based on the MSD when the available data points are limited, as is often the case in experiments. Furthermore, the RNN can handle more complex tasks where there are no standard approaches, such as determining the anomalous diffusion expo…
Particulate matter, such as foams, emulsions, and granular materials, attain rigidity in a dense regime: the rigid phase can yield when a threshold force is applied. The rigidity transition in particulate matter exhibits {\it bona fide} scaling behavior near the transition point. However, a precise determination of exponents describing the rigidity transition has raised much controversy. Here, we pinpoint the causes of the controversies. We then establish a conceptual framework to quantify the critical nature of the yielding transition. Our results demonstrate that there is a spectrum of possi…
We show analytically that there is anomalous diffusion when the diffusion constant depends on the concentration as a power law with a positive exponent or a negative exponent with absolute value less than one and the initial condition is a delta function in the concentration. On the other hand, when the initial concentration profile is a step, the profile spreads as the square root of time. We verify our results numerically using particles moving stochastically.
We study a two-species reaction-diffusion system with the reactions $A+A\to (0, A)$ and $A+B\to A$, with general diffusion constants $D_A$ and $D_B$. Previous studies showed that for dimensions $d\leq 2$ the $B$ particle density decays with a nontrivial, universal exponent that includes an anomalous dimension resulting from field renormalization. We demonstrate via renormalization group methods that the $B$ particle correlation function has a distinct anomalous dimension resulting in the asymptotic scaling $C_{BB}(r,t) \sim t^ϕf(r/\sqrt{t})$, where the exponent $ϕ$ results from the renormaliza…
The state of a stochastic process evolving over a time $t$ is typically assumed to lie on a normal distribution whose width scales like $t^{1/2}$. However, processes where the probability distribution is not normal and the scaling exponent differs from $\frac{1}{2}$ are known. The search for possible origins of such "anomalous" scaling and approaches to quantify them are the motivations for the work reported here. In processes with stationary increments, where the stochastic process is time-independent, auto-correlations between increments and infinite variance of increments can cause anomalou…
Countless systems in biology, physics, and finance undergo diffusive dynamics. Many of these systems, including biomolecules inside cells, active matter systems and foraging animals, exhibit anomalous dynamics where the growth of the mean squared displacement with time follows a power law with an exponent that deviates from $1$. When studying time series recording the evolution of these systems, it is crucial to precisely measure the anomalous exponent and confidently identify the mechanisms responsible for anomalous diffusion. These tasks can be overwhelmingly difficult when only few short tr…
For renewal-reward processes with a power-law decaying waiting time distribution, anomalously large probabilities are assigned to atypical values of the asymptotic processes. Previous works have reveals that this anomalous scaling causes a singularity in the corresponding large deviation function. In order to further understand this problem, we study in this article the scaling of variance in several renewal-reward processes: counting processes with two different power-law decaying waiting time distributions and a Knudsen gas (a heat conduction model). Through analytical and numerical analyses…

Strong anomalous diffusion phenomena are often observed in complex physical and biological systems, which are characterized by the nonlinear spectrum of exponents $qν(q)$ by measuring the absolute $q$-th moment $\langle |x|^q\rangle$. This paper investigates the strong anomalous diffusion behavior of a two-state process with Lévy walk and Brownian motion, which usually serves as an intermittent search process. The sojourn times in Lévy walk and Brownian phases are taken as power law distributions with exponents $α_+$ and $α_-$, respectively. Detailed scaling analyses are performed for the coex…
We show through intensive simulations that the paradigmatic features of anomalous diffusion are indeed the features of a (continuous-time) random walk driven by two different Markovian hopping-trap mechanisms. If $p \in (0,1/2)$ and $1-p$ are the probabilities of occurrence of each Markovian mechanism, then the anomalousness parameter $β\in (0,1)$ results to be $β\simeq 1 - 1/\{1 + \log[(1-p)/p]\}$. Ensemble and single-particle observables of this model have been studied and they match the main characteristics of anomalous diffusion as they are typically measured in living systems. In particul…
