Let $G$ be a compact group, let $X$ be a Banach space, and let $P\colon L^1(G)\to X$ be an orthogonally additive, continuous $n$-homogeneous polynomial. Then we show that there exists a unique continuous linear map $Φ\colon L^1(G)\to X$ such that $P(f)=Φ\bigl(f\ast\stackrel{n}{\cdots}\ast f \bigr)$ for each $f\in L^1(G)$. We also seek analogues of this result about $L^1(G)$ for various other convolution algebras, including $L^p(G)$, for $1< p\le\infty$, and $C(G)$.
We derive formulas for characterizing bounded orthogonally additive polynomials in two ways. Firstly, we prove that certain formulas for orthogonally additive polynomials derived in \cite{Kusa} actually characterize them. Secondly, by employing complexifications of the unique symmetric multilinear maps associated with orthogonally additive maps we derive new characterizing formulas.
We provide two new characterizations of bounded orthogonally additive polynomials from a uniformly complete vector lattice into a convex bornological space using separately two polynomial identities of Kusraeva involving the root mean power and the geometric mean. Furthermore, it is shown that a polynomial on a vector lattice is orthogonally additive whenever it is orthogonally additive on the positive cone. These results improve recent characterizations of bounded orthogonally additive polynomials by G. Buskes and the author.
We consider $C$-compact orthogonally additive operators in vector lattices. After providing some examples of $C$-compact orthogonally additive operators on a vector lattice with values in a Banach space we show that the set of those operators is a projection band in the Dedekind complete vector lattice of all regular orthogonally additive operators. In second part of the article we introduce a new class of vector lattices, called $C$-complete, and show that any laterally-to-norm continuous $C$-compact orthogonally additive operator from a $C$-complete vector lattice to a Banach space is narrow…
We study orthogonally additive operators between Riesz spaces without the Dedekind completeness assumption on the range space. Our first result gives necessary and sufficient conditions on a pair of Riesz spaces $(E,F)$ for which every orthogonally additive operator from $E$ to $F$ is laterally-to-order bounded. Second result provides sufficient conditions on a pair of orthogonally additive operators $S$ and $T$ to have $S \vee T$, as well as to have $S \wedge T$, and consequently, for an orthogonally additive operator $T$ to have $T^+$, $T^-$ or $|T|$ without any assumption on the domain and …
The aim of this article is to extend results of M.~Popov and second named author about orthogonally additive narrow operators on vector lattices. The main object of our investigations are an orthogonally additive narrow operators between lattice-normed spaces. We prove that every $C$-compact laterally-to-norm continuous orthogonally additive operator from a Banach-Kantorovich space $V$ to a Banach lattice $Y$ is narrow. We also show that every dominated Uryson operator from Banach-Kantorovich space over an atomless Dedekind complete vector lattice $E$ to a sequence Banach lattice $\ell_p(Γ)$ o…
We study the space of orthogonally additive $n$-homogeneous polynomials on $C(K)$. There are two natural norms on this space. First, there is the usual supremum norm of uniform convergence on the closed unit ball. As every orthogonally additive $n$-homogeneous polynomial is regular with respect to the Banach lattice structure, there is also the regular norm. These norms are equivalent, but have significantly different geometric properties. We characterise the extreme points of the unit ball for both norms, with different results for even and odd degrees. As an application, we prove a Banach-St…
We consider the stability of the orthogonal Jensen additive and quadratic equations in $F$-spaces, through applying and extending the approach to the proof of a 2010 result of W.Frchner and J.Sikorska, we presenting a new method to get the stability. Moreover, we work in a more general and natural condition than considered before by other antuors.
Let $X$ and $Y$ be Banach spaces, let $\mathcal{A}(X)$ stands for the algebra of approximable operators on $X$, and let $P\colon\mathcal{A}(X)\to Y$ be an orthogonally additive, continuous $n$-homogeneous polynomial. If $X^*$ has the bounded approximation property, then we show that there exists a unique continuous linear map $Φ\colon\mathcal{A}(X)\to Y$ such that $P(T)=Φ(T^n)$ for each $T\in\mathcal{A}(X)$.
Let $E$ be a Banach lattice, $λ_1,λ_2,\ldots,λ_k$ non-zero scalars and $φ_1,φ_2,\ldots,φ_k$ pairwise independent linear functionals on $E$. We show that if $k<m$ then $\sum_{j=1}^kλ_jφ_j^m$ is orthogonally additive if and only if $φ_j$ or $-φ_j$ is a lattice homomorphism for each $j$, $1\le j\le k$. Moreover, for each $m\ge 2$, we provide an example to show that this result does not extend to the case where $k=m$.
The "Up-and-down" theorem which describes the structure of the Boolean algebra of fragments of a linear positive operator is the well known result of the operator theory. We prove an analog of this theorem for a positive abstract Uryson operator defined on a vector lattice and taking values in a Dedekind complete vector lattice. This result we apply to prove that for an order narrow positive abstract Uryson operator $T$ from a vector lattice $E$ to a Dedekind complete vector lattice $F$, every abstract Uryson operator $S:E\to F$, such that $0\leq S\leq T$ is also order narrow.
We use a localisation technique to study orthogonally additive polynomials on Banach lattices. We derive alternative characterisations for orthogonal additivity of polynomials and orthosymmetry of $m$-linear mappings. We prove that an orthogonally additive polynomial which is order continuous at one point is order continuous at every point and we give an example to show that this result does not extend to regular polynomials in general. Finally, we prove a Nakano Carrier theorem for orthogonally additive polynomials, generalising a result of Kusraev.
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a von Neumann algebra with a normal semifinite faithful trace $τ$. We prove that every continuous $m$-homogeneous polynomial $P$ from $L^p(\mathcal{M},τ)$, with $0<p<\infty$, into each topological linear space $X$ with the property that $P(x+y)=P(x)+P(y)$ whenever $x$ and $y$ are mutually orthogonal positive elements of $L^p(\mathcal{M},τ)$ can be represented in the form $P(x)=Φ(x^m)$ $(x\in L^p(\mathcal{M},τ))$ for some continuous linear map $Φ\colon L^{p/m}(\mathcal{M},τ)\to X$.
Let $A,B$ be C*-algebras, $B_A(0;r)$ the open ball in $A$ centered at $0$ with radius $r>0$, and $H:B_A(0;r)\to B$ an orthogonally additive holomorphic map. If $H$ is zero product preserving on positive elements in $B_A(0;r)$, we show, in the commutative case when $A=C_0(X)$ and $B=C_0(Y)$, that there exist weight functions $h_n$'s and a symbol map $φ: Y\to X$ such that $$ H(f)=\sum_{n\geq1} h_n (f\circφ)^n, \quad\forall f\in B_{C_0(X)}(0;r). $$ In the general case, we show that if $H$ is also conformal then there exist central multipliers $h_n$'s of $B$ and a surjective Jordan isomorphism $J:…
We provide two new characterizations of bounded orthogonally additive polynomials from a uniformly complete vector lattice into a convex bornological space using harmonic means and completely partitioned weighted geometric means. Our result involving completely partitioned weighted geometric means generalizes a recent theorem on bounded orthogonally additive polynomials by Z.A. Kusraeva as well as parts of related theorems by G. Buskes and the author.
We investigate the representation of the so-called orthogonally $a$-Jensen mappings acting on $C^*$-modules. More precisely, let $\mathfrak{A}$ be a unital $C^*$-algebra with the unit $1$, let $a \in \mathfrak{A}$ be fixed such that $a, 1-a$ are invertible and let $\mathscr{E}, \mathscr{F}, \mathscr{G}$ be inner product $\mathfrak{A}$-modules. We prove that if there exist additive mappings $φ, ψ$ from $\mathscr{F}$ into $\mathscr{E}$ such that $\big\langle φ(y), ψ(z)\big\rangle=0$ and $a \big\langle φ(y), φ(z)\big\rangle a^\ast = (1 - a)\big\langle ψ(y), ψ(z)\big\rangle (1 - a)^\ast$ for all $…
We continue the investigation of abstract Uryson operators in vector lattices. Using the recently proved Up-and-down theorem for order bounded, orthogonally additive operators, we consider the domination problem for AM-compact abstract Uryson operators. We obtain the Dodds-Fremlin type theorem and prove that for an AM- compact positive abstract Uryson operator T from a Banach lattice E to a order continuous Banach lattice F, every abstract Uryson operator S from E to F included between 0 and T is also AM-compact.
Suppose that $X\_{1}$ and $X\_{2}$ are two selfadjoint random variables that are freely independent over an operator algebra $\mathcal{B}$. We describe the possible operator atoms of the distribution of $X\_{1}+X\_{2}$ and, using linearization, we determine the possible eigenvalues of an arbitrary polynomial $p(X\_{1},X\_{2})$ in case $\mathcal{B}=\mathbb{C}$.
The superconvergence phenomenon is shown for products of free, identically distributed random variables. We also show that a certain Holder regularity, first demonstrated by Biane for the density of a free additive convolution with a semicircular law, extends to free additive and multiplicative convolutions with arbitrary freely infinitely divisible laws and to free convolution semigroups.
This paper defines the notion of generators for a class of decreasing radial Loewner chains which are only continuous with respect to time. For this purpose, "Loewner's integral equation" which generalizes Loewner's differential equation is defined and analyzed. The definition of generators is motivated by the Lévy-Khintchine representation for additive processes on the unit circle. Actually, we can and do introduce a homeomorphism between the above class of Loewner chains and the set of the distributions of increments of additive processes equipped with suitable topologies. On the other hand,…
